We are travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching road trip, using geocaching as our guide. We are staying in Portland for a few days, wandering around the area enjoying the amazing sights this area has to offer. An interesting multi but we did have some problems. TFTC & hint. LNCU.

Loved this cache! Storytelling in bite-sized chunks, and a moving story too. You can see how this history has shaped this community and how important understanding what came before you is. As I sit here in Portland, gazing out over the ocean I can all but feel the rescue happening, it makes me tingle. The cache! Oh, the cache. I spent a long time waiting for a muggle-free moment and an even longer time waiting for another muggle-free moment to put it back. But I s'pose that's what to expect on a lovely Sunday afternoon. Thanks bucketeer, a fav point from me

18-Mar-24
I loved the story. Thanks for this multi

02-Feb-24

Looking everywhere but the right spot Loved the history TFTC

27-Nov-23
This is a super little multi we enjoyed all the WP and the way mark. Spent a while in the wrong location looking for the final but then with thinking caps on we finally found it. History all the way here . TFTC

27-Jul-23
A sunny early morning walk in Portland. Found the clues easily but the cache container wouldn't come out of its hollow. Left a bit of paper with my name as a log. Thanks for the trail and a bit of history.

28-May-23
Had to have a second crack at this one after confirming we had the right coords from the CO
TFTC !

19-Mar-23
Thanks for the interesting multi learnt a few things and the height was pretty tricky

19-Mar-23
Yesterday we jumped in wozzle68's geo-vehicle and headed down to Portland for a weekend roadtrip and a catch up with good friends. We had a fabulous time enjoying great scenery and lots of laughs and banter.

We had visited a couple of the waypoints on previous visits to Portland, then subsequently lost some of the info collected, so today we finally set our sights on re-visiting locations and finally completing this multi. The Admella story is really interesting and we learnt heaps along the way. Cache was found nice and dry in good condition in this very appropriate location. Thank you for this multi cache ShiverMeTimbers / Bucketeer Smile

07-Feb-23
Away in Portland for the week with my mum and kids, decided to do a few caches along the way.
This was a tricky find but very well hidden!!!!

10-Jan-23
Found where we think gz is but couldn't find the cache.

3/3 dnfs in Portland today so we are doing well.....

As goblinrider just said...."not a very geocachie day huh? How sad Sad "

10-Jan-23
Tftc. Cache was much more on theme then the emu. Searched multiple days with Juggling Ogre for this

10-Jan-23
Ok so after re-reading the description of finding the cache I realised that there was something else to see. The geo-spidey-senses got all tingly and it was a very easy find.

Much more on theme than Ozzie the Emu for a hide.

18-Dec-22
Really enjoyed this multi, thank you so much for three history, was fascinating! And to find the cache after out all was a relief...!

13-Mar-22
Yesterday I headed off from Adelaide to the Portland area for a few days of caching and camping. This was on my target list of caches of interest.

The required information was soon collected and final coordinates calculated. Then it was a quick find at GZ just a short distance away.

Thanks bucketeer for the cache.

23-Nov-21
We felt a little conspicuous looking for this one so were pleased that it didn't take too long. Shame we don't have time to have a better look around. Thanks for the cache.

23-Nov-21
We enjoyed finding the necessary information for this cache. I was a little worried about the location of GZ but we found the cache after the one and only muggle passed us by. Thanks for placing the cache for us to find.

19-Nov-21
After a long time of searching at the wrong coordinates cause I did the math wrong lol, I went over it again and got it. Nice little spot

18-Nov-21
Replaced cache andcl log

26-Oct-21
Suscoe was having a short break down here in Portland.
After a pleasant and sunny drive down, we settled in to some caching.
Thanks to Shiver Me Timbers for this glimpse into the past and the tragic events that happened with the disaster.

A nice caching wander.

22-Oct-21
TFTC shiver me timbers and bucketeer and for maintaining it for us. Good to nail an unloved one. A few mathematics issues made this much longer than needed. All good after the second time around.

15-Aug-21
Lovely clear skies and gusty winds have determined our sight seeing in the area today after some long hikes yesterday.
Our goal of logging 31multi’s this month was helped by this very informative and cleverly hidden cache.
We have enjoyed visiting the local points of interest and learning more about the local history.
Thank you for your cache and adding to our road trip memories. A favourite point from us.

Frustration got the better of us. Had another look when the rain stopped and thx to Mrs P's lateral thinking we found it. Relief after taking so long working it all out.

Omegaman1971

Find number 8701 on 24 June 2021

It's my last night in town, so doing some caching by torchlight. After doing the required work I soon found myself at a great looking Gz.
After much searching in all the obvious locations, I found the very fragile container.
Cheers for the cache.

09-Jan-21
I would love to do all the multis in Portland but would need to have a lot more time here. I chose this one because it was not too long and the information was easy to obtain. Great multi. I may do another multi tomorrow.

08-Jan-21
What a great multi!! I loved reading about it. But by but we worked out what we needed then ventured on and eventually made our way to gz. I found the cache while the others were window shopping. Portland is such a great place and we will definitely be back again someday to finish off some multis that we started and look again for reflectors we couldn’t find. Tftc

07-Jan-21
After the tour to find all the info for Gz it was time to find the cache. All was quiet at Gz with nobody around. Tftc. Container a bit brittle.

06-Jan-21
Woohoo! Another multi that we didn't stuff up! After gathering all the required info we found the cache. Clever hiding spot which kenare found in no time. tftc

26-Dec-20
Out for a Christmas day walk to work off the big lunch. Couldn't resist finding a cache as well. Interesting reading about the Admella shipwreck. Container was broken at GZ. Tftc

13-Oct-20
I began this multi whilst lunching in Macs hotel. Then I gathered the next few waypoints without issue.
Great last spot. I knew exactly what I was looking at. Tricky little hide too.
All good

27-Sep-20
Whilst the boys spent a few hours fishing I decided to head out grabbing some multi waypoints. I was soon at GZ for this one and figured I was in the right spot when I saw a munzee (now archived). No luck. I walked away and came back and looked somewhere else I had missed before and was chuffed to make this find. Yes! One multi ticked off. More to come! Many thanks for the cache.

13-Jul-19
i came down to mount gambier with mogni to help do maintenance on the rail trail ( tomorrow ). We decided to go to Portland for the day. Another cache needed for the mystery at the museum souvenir. Started this one after the angsea mega, finally finished it this trip.

08-Jan-19
Finding this cache has been like trying to save the shipwrecked souls for me [:o]
I've been taken on the journey of discovery every time I have visited Portland over the years.
The journey never gets olde Big Grin

But the final rescue of this cache has always eluded me [:o]

Today I took the tour again to gather the numbers I needed,
and relive this epic saga again Smile
I even popped by the Rocket Shed for a bit more info about the Admella.

But this all happened yesterday,
and at the end of all me explorations,
I ended up in a familiar spot,
which I know is the right spot to rescue this cache [:o]

Yet again the muggle crowds prevented me from saving the cache Sad

This morning ...
... bright and early,
the coast was clear.
The cache was going to be rescued Razz

It still took me a few minutes,
but just before I washed onto the caching rocks again,
I spied the little blighter in a spot I had not expected [:o]

Finally !!
Gotcha Big Grin

TFTC, history and many hours of historical research [^]

30-Sep-18
Found on another road trip with Dr Owl, this time focussing on multi's with other caches thrown in along the way.

Another interesting multi with a tricky ending, thanks Shiver Me Timbers.

30-Sep-18
A new day in the south-east (from Owl and Sushilord's perspective) and the order of the day was multiple multis to try and get closer to a certain South Australian Challenge cache. The bad luck (or something) of yesterday was dogging them again, so they gave up on caching and went for breakfast instead. Suitably fortified and with a PaF to encourage them, a return trip scored the prize. Caching eyes now in, the rest of the day went well!

22-Jun-18
After getting the numbers from the various waypoints we walked to the final GZ for an easy find
TFTC

15-Jun-18
Very interesting trail. Hevwalker and I headed back here to Portland to get these elusive multi's and trads that due to weather we have not yet got. At last this one can be ticked off with us dashing back and forth the car trying to dodge the rain showers and downpours. Very tricky hide had us searching all around the cache with us scratching our head more than a few times. TFTC

15-Jun-18
scramping & I were in Portland for a day of caching...we must be crazy as the weather was exactly as forecast...cold, wet & windy...
We made our way to each of the way point and collected the information from the interesting information boards...
At GZ the wind blew cold straight through to our bones so extra layers were needed...
Sheltered at GZ we spend some time looking for the cache...then once located it was like...Der!!! that took way too long to find...
An enjoyable multi...

I worked most of this multi out last night, but realised that the dinner I had ordered was ready, upon reaching GZ, and I was, by this stage, a fair walk from it. To search or not to search. A half hearted effort and I left for dinner. Today I came back with some other geocaches, none of whom could recall GZ. So again I searched (perhaps with some help this time) and soon made the found. Great cache, I loved the information along the way. TFTC bucketeer

26-Jan-18
Thought I would have one more go on my way out of town, realised I had read one question wrong, had cache in hand fairly quickly.
Thanks again for the cache.

25-Jan-18
What words do you use to describe a phone gps that has you wandering around in circles.
Interesting puzzles, think I have the correct answer, but will try again next time I’m in Portland.

Find #3089. Found @ 17:52

We're on holiday in Portland and I was able to grab a cache or two. We're staying near the start coordinates, and on various walks with the family, I've been collecting bit of information for various multis. Today with j-bean we had a quick check of GZ, but decided to come back when it was a little quieter. It still took me way longer than it should have to locate the hide.

Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.
Thanks for the cache bucketeer

22-Nov-17
Having a mate with me made this one a lot easier.

I also tried to log into my Munzee app and it failed. I think I'll give up on those.

A most interesting multi - the final was also a neat spot to look at. No one around today.

Found as part of my 2017 Alexandra Mega experience.Smile This cache added to the fun and enjoyment of my trek to the east and back from Adelaide. While there were a few thunder storms, there were mainly clear skies and I never saw a snake! SurprisedBig Grin

Thanks to bucketeer and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!

13-Nov-17
I have been sent to Portland to work for the week (5 hours from home) and so have plenty of time in the evenings to fill in. What better thing to do than go for a productive walk along the foreshore and learn a little local history. Quick find at final location. TFTC and the walk

24-Mar-17
Took a lot longer than it should have.
Found quickly after reading second previous log!
Enjoyed this cache though.
Started looking at this one while dinning at Mac Pub!

Just before heading home, we couldn't resist a walk around the wharf area to collect a couple more smiley tokens.
Apologies for the late logs, we are still catching up after an almost fatal computer meltdown.

**Feedback to CO**: container is cracked/split.

Thanks bucketeer for placing caches for everyone's enjoyment.

After the event, this was the next cache we targeted. We moved around the waypoints, did our calculations and found the well hidden cache using the helpful hint. It was a bit higher than I was looking! Thanks bucketeer for an interesting multi, found with The Tritonz.

11-Mar-17
After attending the near by Event we headed back out with McLookers to grab a few local caches before the rain got to heavy. We collected the necessary clues to bring us to a quiet little spot where the cache was found after some hunting high and low. Thanks bucketeer for highlighting the Admella shipwreck , teaching us some interesting facts.

11-Mar-17
We decided to find a few of the close in caches prior to the event. The information was easy to find, no complicated maths. The information we must all have running around in our heads from doing multi's. At GZ we went for the obvious and found nothing, we then started to think like a cache hider and we soon had the cache container. Another clever hide. SL TFTC

11-Mar-17
TFTC. We had been across the road to find Light at the end of the Tunnel and had walked passed WP1 and WP2. WE stopped at WP1 to obtain the required information. At WP2 McLookers and team were collecting the information reuired. We followed suit. Back to the car and off to WP3. Quicky collected the information and walked to the final GZ. A quick find as we avoided gazes from the nearby window.
This is one of the reasons we love caching. The history that we learn and the places it takes us never cease to amaze us.

20-Nov-16
A nice evening stroll along the foreshore. Collected the required information at the various waypoints and then a short walk to GZ. Searched various locations be a little wary of the pest control boxes and eventually found the well hidden container. TFTC

14-Nov-16
Heading back to SA from the Surf Coast we had an afternoon and evening exploring one of my favourites places, beautiful Portland, the home of my ancestors in the late 1830's and 1840's before they came to SA. I've researched a lot about the Admella, my GGG Grandfather sailed on this vessel many times between Adelaide, Melbourne and Launceston. He operated as a cabinetmaker and undertaker in Tasmania and followed the Henty's over to Portland in 1839 then moved to Adelaide in 1846. Some of my earliest ancestors are buried in the North Portland cemetery and the William Booth who drowned on the Admella is believed to be a relative although I am yet to find definate proof of this. There is so much history here and the local historical society have helped me over many years to further my family tree from Dublin to Portland. Love multis and this one was great! SL TFTC

14-Nov-16
My Bestie knew all about the Admella long before we got here today, as she had rellos come out on it. So we had to complete this one.
We dodged the showers to grab the info and learn even more of this wreck.
Final GZ coords were spot on and the cache was found easily.
It's sad multis like this go for so long without finders!
A really interesting series, wish we had time to do more.
The last online log is not in the logsheet, so I am claiming the 'unloved cache days'! Smile

Thanks

27-Nov-15
Loved this multi. What a fascinating story. Thanks buckateer for another interesting cache!

08-Nov-15
What a great hide thanks Bucketeer.

26-May-15
I was in Portland for the day to do some caching. I enjoyed doing this one and reading about the Admella Shipwreck. Once the numbers were crunched and GZ worked out, the cache was soon located. It had obviously been a while since it was found as I had to remove some spider webs around the cache. TFTC and multi bucketeer.

25-Nov-14
A quick find today while killing a few hours in Portland with the Missus. Nice and easy, straight forward cache with the end location about where I thought it would be.
A very interesting look at some of the Admella's History.

# 6865. We started this one during dinner at the Mac last night but decided to postpone finishing it until this evening before continuing on with a couple of night caches.

An interesting story that we seemed to have followed along the southern coast over the past few years. We found the next few waypoints and then we were off to GZ where we took a couple of minutes before Rob discovered the hide.

Thanks bucketeer

19-Oct-14
Wasn't planning to do this but after attending Portland's first event we decided to give it a go. We are a day behind the others but had been here earlier that day getting the munzee. Found it with the use of the hint. Thanks Bucketeer.

18-Oct-14
We starte collecting the info at dinner and then tonight, just before we headed off nigth caching we finished this one. A very good time to be searching for the final too, wouldnt like to do it during the day. An interesing walk around TFTC

18-Oct-14
Scoffed our dinner and then set off for a few night caches - well that was the plan!
We had grabbed the fist clues at the Event last night, so we figured while we were waiting for it to get dark we would finish off this multi - the dark won!
We collected the next clue, but the last one was with torches.
Off to GZ and we were glad we weren't looking during the day! Took us a while as we were looking in not quite the right spot Smile
Got there eventually.
Thanks, Robmc.

Found on our "Making Memories" Tour of mainland Australia.

Today we explored Portland and surrounds using geocaching as our guide.

We enjoyed this informative multi and the sites it took us too. TFTC

Thanks for a very informative/interesting journey. We needed to be careful of 'visiting' muggles while finding the cache.

Finally, after nearly two years of not going back for a second look I finally find it.

Decided to go for a early morning walk before everyone woke up. Checked out the clues and got to GZ. Must have done something wrong. Walked back to check them out and found I have miss read one. Back for breakfast and to gather the troops. Gathered up &Others to check out this great location and scenery for some caches.
Took some finding and with a little help with the hint we had success.

Took two visits but we got it!

16-May-12
Found it. Once we knew we were looking for something a lot smaller than our previous finds this one was easy.

07-May-12
Found by Mary & David at 1245. A marvellous history cache. We knew of the tragedy but had no idea of the details or of how many people were affected. We made sure we picked up a copy of the brochure, then realised that the trail of wonderful information plaques actually begin in Adelaide. What a multi that would be! Took a few minutes at GZ to locate the well-hidden container. We were glad that the place wasn't busy today. Our thanks to bucketeer.
