It is just really too bad when a business trip is planned in a place like Las Vegas and I have an opportunity to come early to do a little caching before the meeting. When I found out I was heading to the south west, I made arrangements to do just that. Come down early and hit the Route 66 power trail. I have wanted to do this trail for quite some time. Last year I was down in the area and managed to get the E. T. Highway cleaned up. Of course, I will need to plan a return trip to that trail at some point since they have added quite a few more caches since I got the 1500 that were there last year. For this trip, a good friend, Vulcan64, was able to get some time off and join me for a caching adventure. So we flew down on Tuesday from Sioux Falls and then we worked our way down to Barstow, grabbing a couple of caches along the way. We tried to focus our attention on virtual caches and earth caches for the first night, but there were some terrific targets of opportunity that we could not pass up. In the morning, we took a little walk to grab a nearby cache since breakfast was not ready to be served. Once we got a quick breakfast, we took off for the trail. Once again, there were a few nice targets for us to grab before we made our way down to cache 001. From there we hit the trail with gusto. We did get a couple of other nice caches along the way as well, but our goal was to get the Route 66 trail done in a day. We managed to get it done. What a great trail! We had a lot of fun and we managed to stay safe. Only a few cuts and bumps along the way. By the time we the moon was starting to rise, a beautiful full moon, by the way, we were still about a hundred short of completing the trail. The light of the fading sun was precious, but fleeting. We went as fast as we could, but we ended up finishing in the dark. Good thing we brought flash lights along with us. We signed the logs as VB for Vulcan64 and Beta59. Thanks for all of the great caches, on the trail as well as before, after and in between.
Day 3 we were moving a little slower after doing over 650 caches the day before. Our goal was to finish the Heart of the Mojave Desert series, which we did by late afternoon. Foomanjoo reached his 18,000 milestone along the way. While f0t0m0m, Wendy and foomanjoo split off to take Josh back to Parker, we finished up a few odds and ends caches in the area and then headed back to Twentynine Palms. We placed a tribute cache near the Heart of the Mojave Desert sign to thank f0t0m0m for all that he brings to being a friend and to geocaching. We really enjoyed the power trail, caching with friends, having adventures, seeing new territory, and finding lots and lots of caches!
Thank you Jim for placing the series!

Our third day on the "Route 66" powertrail. We found the rest until nr. 800 and some other caches in the surrounding area. It was a great pleasure. Thanks a lot for giving us this good time. TFTC.

Wow what a trip! Humboldt flier and I hooked up as team STNY to do some caching in the west. This will be our 2nd trip out west together and 3 or 4 trips for each of us total. Something about the desert seems to keep calling us back. This time our target was the Route 66 trail plus interesting caches along the way. We also focused on solving some puzzles to add to our non-traditionals. We logged a total of 1167 miles on the rental car! Now that's a lot of driving. The weather was spectacular - mid 60s and clear, clear skies. Cold at night (well cold is relative - while I was out in the 28-30 degree nights it dropped to 7 degrees for a HIGH in Chicago so 28 wasn't so bad after all!) Many, many thanks to you, DaddyO48+MommyO, for placing this cache to keep us entertained. This is cache #159 of 479 for the day.
Dear Cache, The winter's chill has left the air and the temperatures are approaching the middle sixties. Great caching weather if I must say so myself. Wow, what a trip! Team STNY hooked up once again to do some caching in the west. AKiteFlier from Chicago, Illinois and Humboldt Flier from N.W. California have invaded the deserts of the American Southwest. This will be our 3rd. trip out west together, with multiple trips for each of us as members of other teams. Something about the desert seems to keep calling us back. Visiting Route 66 to take pictures of the BNSF trains and stopped by to find some caches too. It was chilly but a great sunny day. SL. Dropped off an orange squashed glass marble and a coin with a hole in the middle. TFTC!!

After tackling the Planes, Trains & Automobile series yesterday, we’re back to put another dent in the Route 66 series. We had to replace a few logs and containers, but mostly the caches were in good conditions. We got around 400 smileys today. We’ll be back tomorrow to finish the series. We really appreciated the hard work for creating this series and gave at least one of our favourite points for every 25 caches of this series. Thanks DaddyO48+MommyO for this cache on Route 66.
2nd day of power trail,we finished it off just the 2 of us wife and i. signed log W26,we are sure glad that it is over because by the end of the 2nd day i was getting sore from jumping berms and running up and down little hills. thanks to all the C.O.'S who put these out did 440 today (399 from rt66 the rest from various C.O.'S ) . i can say with great clarity now i will be doing more power runs.!!
On holidays from Australia we had planned on doing a spot of caching whilst in and around Barstow and Las Vegas. Found this one while out doing the Route 66 Series. Thought it was time for something different.

My memory about this one is a bit hazy but if I'm right this one took a bit of searching up and down, but after some head scratching and scrambing I spotted it , as always it turns out to be a easy find if you look in the right spot.
After many months waiting we are finally here, we where fortunately enough to meet the cache owners at an event, but even more fortunate to have mild weather.
We completed the series plus a few side caches in about two days and loved it

Hello from Canberra, Australia
US12. As we headed out to the spot on Route 66 that we stopped yesterday, there were a few caches along the way that called to us that we had skipped yesterday. It was just a short trip off the road, but it shows us the desert. Thanks.

Down from British Columbia for the winter and most of the time is spent caching. Today was a travel day, going from Barstow to Needles with an overnight stop at the Amboy Crater. Several caches had come out since I did the Route 66 series, so I was kept occupied during my travel. Nice to have lots of pull-over room for the RV, too! Thanks for putting out your caches! This was a tricky one to find due to the GPS moving about. I should have stuck to the terrain rating, but instead I made it much harder.
