WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 10 - Cleve to Port Lincoln via Port Neill and Tumby Bay. My short days continue and I spent a bit of time around Cleve before I got under way. Plenty of roadside caches along the highways. I ventured into Pot Neill, Tumby Bay and Port Louth to check out the villages. As ever I would have loved to have stopped for lunch or dinner in each one, but I stuck to the plan and made it to the caravan park in Port Lincoln. Once I was set up I went and did a few more caches on the edge of town. A couple more Counties today. I'll spend another day here tomorrow before heading North West to th Nullabor over a few days after that.As I drove from Cleve I stopped at many but not all of the roadside caches. They all went smoothly except one. Oh well, can't get them all .. Or so they tell me.Thanks for the cache wheres_wolly_sharon46609.14 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 108 Birthday 08 A#108**Albida**
TFTC wheres_wolly_sharon your cache for the love of caching that we found today. This is our last few days in Cowell. Tomorrow we will be packing up camp in preparation for a trip back to Whyalla and then onto Yorke Peninsula as per or original plan. The trip today took us out to Arno Bay and Port Neill. A good day caching 2 Earthcaches, 3 multis and 18 trads. A new LGA on top of all that. Find Count: 17633
Day 7 at Cowell and today we headed down to Arno Bay, Port Neill and Lipson Cove. A quick find and sign at GZ. TFTC
Out for a drive, this time of the year every day feels like Sunday. Good spot to pull over and stretch the legs. All good here. Thanks wheres_wolly_sharon for bringing us here tftc
Found on our way past while heading south for Port Lincoln today. Convenient spot to pull over for a cache while towing. All good here.

On a road trip for the love of caching... had to stop as we drove past.
GreyHams and myself set out on a three day SA caching trip after a super early start to the first day. The best start really though as by 9am and two planes later we had landed in Port Lincoln and into our rental car ready to set off! Local Government areas were our primary target, although many others of interest made the list, oldies, types and DT... Each offered some unique and often spectacular location, if your cache made our list, thank you!
Day 1 saw us landing in Port Lincoln and caching our way up towards Ceduna, a long but productive day saw us driving into Port Augusta just on dark a solid 12 hours after we had set off on the road.
Day 2 and we made the drive north from Port Augusta where we were based for the trip. The scenery on the drive to Roxby Downs changed often from little salt bush plains, shrub, salt lakes and to the amazing vast flat and empty, I loved the vast flat views... always spotting something in the middle of all the nothingness. Emus featured in huge numbers often, red dirt appeared... something I have been seeking so it was great to see it and finally get my feet into it all! Back into Port Augusta we set off for a loop in the south of the Flinders towards Quorn and out to Orroroo before returning just as the sun set to collect the last pizzas just as the shop shut for the day.
Day 3 was our last but just as full, although we only needed to get to Port Lincoln for our plane home late in the day we had many caches of interest plus a few walks along the way so took most of the day to make the distance leaving the odd cache off as we watched the clock!
Each day was full of such varied scenery, all quite stunning in their own way and led to a very enjoyable and fun trip. Thank you for your cache that guided us through the area and helped to highlight some of the great locations we got to visit.

Aquilus1 & myself on yet another caching mission into South Australia, this time it was to go out west to collect all the LGA's out there.
This area of South Australia is so interesting as you can drive and be in a completely different planet within an hour. Red gums, to mallee scrub, to saltbush, to nothingness and then back again!
STarting and finishing in Port Lincoln, but with Port Augusta as our main base we explored the Eyre Peninsula, east out to Ororroo and north to Roxby Downs. It was a short but fun little trip. Thanks to all the CO's for placing caches

We are still on the Eyre Peninsula and touring with ilook4geo. Today we were blown a bit further north by the wild winds but managed to stop along the way to pick up some caches as well. Managed to find all we had listed for the day and enjoyed the finds. All logs were signed to keep the paperwork in order and the caches were then put back into place. Thank you to wheres wolly for placing this cache.
Heading north today with a strong wind behind. Stopped to find various caches. Signed the logs to record our visit, replaced all as found. Job done! TFTC.
Waiting to meet family for a vehicle swap. A nice stopping area and a short walk to retrieve cache. An easy find although I was distracted by a different suspicious area before making the retrieval.
A quick little cache. BraydsSA had previously found it and I had to catch up . TFTC SL
During our new years break, jesswrigley and I headed to the Eyre Peninsula to travel around the various coastal towns. We started the trip with Jeep trouble, but then continued in our alternative vehicle without 4WD to stick to the main tourist roads where possible. We travelled south-west to Tumby Bay and Port Lincoln via Whyalla, Cowell, Cleve, Arno Bay; west across to Coffin Bay; and then north-west to Streaky Bay and Ceduna via Elliston, and Venus Bay. We then headed back east staying in Kimba via Poochera, Wudinna, Lock, and Darke Peak.
Today, jesswrigley and I travelled from Port Augusta to Tumby Bay. We made stops in Whyalla and then Cowell for a bakery lunch, and then continued our drive through Cleve, Arno Bay, and Port Neill. The weather had changed from the sunny balmy conditions, to strong wind and gust warnings for the afternoon.
Another cache just off the highway, and of which, didn't take long to find. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. This was another cache that I felt the D/T ratings were probably overrated. Thanks wheres wolly for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.
Note that this geocache was logged with the *Team Warren* Davidwazza/jesswrigley stamp.

Brad and Janet had planned two overseas trips this year. But COVID-19 put an end to those plans.
However it is an ill wind as they say. We recently went to Arkaroola and the Gammon Ranges for a great trip. There have also been some shorter troops around SA.
This time the plan is to explore the Eyre Peninsula in a leisurely manner. And perhaps grab a few geocaches along the way.
Today is day 4. Heading from Cowell to Port Lincoln with stops at Port Neill, Tumby Bay, and a beach drive at Boston Point. And grabbing a few caches along the way.
Quick find and sign and on we go.

This was a quick find as it was a familiar type of hide. Again we think that the D/T given in the cache description are over-rated. The cache and contents were in reasonable condition. Thanks wheres wolly for the cache.
Found at 11:08 AM GAFF3.
We met the CO in 2011 and he was quite enthusiastic about the game - however it seems that he has since lost a bit of interest. Pity as he had set up a lot of really interesting caches around the district - and with really good D/T ratings that we appreciate

The geo-godchildren are staying for a couple of weeks so we grabbed my best friend, packed a picnic and off we went on a day long geo-adventure! Found on 6/1/19. 5th find for the day! TFTC!
It was a few weeks ago that Laighside Legends suggested a trip over to Port Lincoln for the long weekend in order to gather a few more LGAs’. It was a pleasant drive over, picking up a few caches along the way, however we spent a few hours in Whyalla to specifically target a few caches. This was followed by a slow drive down the costal highway, picking up cache after cache and happened to even bump in to Aussie M&M and Mogni as we neared Lincoln. We arrived in Lincoln at around nine after an enjoyable day of traveling and caching.

On my two day trip to Port Lincoln with e.gregory1, we stopped everyone and again to collect some target caches along the way. Majority of the trip was based around collecting puzzles Unfortunately we hit a kangaroo not too far past port wakefield but car is a bit dented.
The hint got me straight away but then looked at the distance and made my way over to the cache.

Travelling Australia since March 2014 it has been a while since in SA but enjoying this visit greatly.
Moving today from Cowell, we stopped in Port Gibbon and Arno Bay and unhitched so we cache around the area without the caravan on tow.
Arrived late afternoon in Port Neill and explored the general area before sunset. Nice to see some sunshine and less wind after the last few days.

#1161 Fourth of seventeen finds on Day 10 of my South Australian geocaching road trip. Nice easy find after a short search. TFTC.
I'm afraid we've let our online logging get a little out of hand due to internet issues on the road, so with 2 weeks now gone this one has faded from our memories a little. Thank goodness for our GPSr & GSAK that can remind us that we were there & did our regular TNLN SL. TFTC though.
CPwanderer, GoodLook and I headed off for a weekend in Port Lincoln via an overnight stop in Whyalla
Our weekend was unexpectedly extended by a day due to illness and so my tally at the end of the 'weekend' was 168 cache finds
Sadly this was marred by a massive 28 DNFs
Port Lincoln, despite being virgin caching territory for all 3 of us, did not provide us with the pleasure that we had anticipated
So many of the caches were bison tubes and those that we did find, quite often were in places where a larger cache could have been hidden The other issue was the lack of maintenance on many caches
There are people trying their best to maintain the 'wheres wolly' cache hides however their resources are stretched thinly..... so if you are heading over, please pack heaps of cache maintenance containers, bags and log books and help out where you can. [^]
That being said, the trip was still a blast and some great caches were found and great views were seen!
We know that we all LOVE geocaching so making this find was an obvious priority...... for the love of caching

Good co ords made for a quick find!!
This was one of the caches found on a three day odyssey on the Eyre Peninsula! Myself, GoodLook and locuscache had never cached south of the Cowell/Cleve area so we had high hopes of some great caching. We worked our way down through Port Neil and Tumby Bay and grabbed those along the highway plus a few a little further afield.
Our time in and around Port Lincoln was frustrating. Lots very small micros, lots of very rusty tins and more dnfs than ive ever had in a day before this. We were very fortunate that local cacher , Roming Wendy joined as. Her expert knowledge of the town certainly helped. A medical issue had us stay a third day. This worked out very well as we could do some relaxed caching on our way home.
A special thanks to Roming wendy for her help and to those who hid caches in the area … particularly the Geo-Ambos, Wheres Wolly and Viper321. Special thanks also to my “mildly obsessive” caching buddies on this trip …………………………… amazing fun!!

A quick and straight forward find. Good coordinates.
Found whilst on a road trip with CPwanderer and Locus Cache, with the aim of the weekend to cache in and around Port Lincoln - fresh territory for us all. We certainly had a great time, however with a DNF rate of about 40% [:(!], it was tough going! We did however thoroughly enjoy the beautiful locations and scenery.
After joking all day on the Sunday we should spend another night in Pt Lincoln, circumstances presented that meant we needed to extend our time away! We took it slowly on the way home which enabled us to once again visit some terrific places
Thanks for the cache

Hi there wheres wolly.
We found your cache **"for the love of caching"** at 11:55:00 AM today. This cache makes our find count 13791.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip around the local area today. We usually start the day off by nominating a cache some distance away from our camp site and then take a route mainly determined by the next closest cache according to our GPS. Today we thought that it would be nice to visit Port Neill.
We ended up finding 11 & DNFing 0 caches today.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found your cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** Nothing.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

Found by Mary & David at 1150. Stayed at Cowell last night. Today, we cached our way to Port Lincoln, where we'll spend a couple of days. We love caching too. Concerned about the weather forecast for the next few days. Hopefully we'll miss the worst of it in Port Lincoln. Our thanks to wheres wolly.
Cache was found in the last place we looked, which as usual was not the first place we looked. Thanks for a fun cache guys. Love your work. We signed the logbook.
