After our successful walk up Mt Hobson we left the car where it was and carried on walking up to this spot. We were glad of the dairy nearby so we could each get a cold drink. We are absolutely loving the Auckland weather..feeling sore though after the sunburn from Piha yesterday! Had to use our special stealth powers at GZ and when the timing was right I pulled out the cachewhich by the way fitted perfectly into its home. Cool camo! I love your trash to treasure hides..much better than a click clack type of hide. FP..Thanks for placing..the write up was a good read too! P.S Pity we didnt cross paths at Mega..would have been good to meet.

Last time I came here I searched high and low, but couldn't make the find. Must have had tomatoes on my eyes. Today I spotted it on approaching. Nice camo. Thanks for hiding and maintaining. Tftc

08-Jul-24
TFTC. A busy corner, needing to wait for the lights to change before could be retrieved! No issues finding.

07-Jul-24
Great story G2. Those Chicago style drive by shootings are now having quite a popular resurgence currently. Especially at liquor stores. I didnt bring my high viz or a flap jacket so I made a quick sign and shot off.

06-May-24
Very nice and easy lots of muggles so hard to be stealthy

23-Apr-24
Fourth find of the evening, made fairly quick work of this one, FP added for a great construction. TFTC!

14-Apr-24
Out with geodog while dodging the rain squalls. Quick park and grab. Not too much muggle activity today. TFTC.

I wanted to get a cache today for the leap day souvenir. It's also the first day that UK people can donate blood, so I had just a little time between work and my blood donation appointment. This cache was in a great location and looked quick.Spotted the likely location as I approached and sure enough it was there! Carefully retrieved and signed. TFTC

10-Dec-23
I love the bit of local history with this one, Ill have to see if I can find the TVNZ episode on it. The hide is great as well, fab point from me. TFTC

20-Aug-23
Good little spot and history lesson!

20-Aug-23
Followed the hints and spotted instantly. TFTC!

14-Jun-23
Had never heard of the Bassett Road murders so read the description with great interest. Someone shoved a cappuccino shaker into the tree which I initially mistook as the cache. Had difficulties prising it open but soon realised my mistake and came away with the actual cache shortly after. TFTC. Have removed the fake container.

First find of the caches in auckland surprised that i havent heard about this incident before cheers S&J

Thanks for the history on the murder, it deeply facilitated us on how such an event happened not so long ago. TFTH

Nope, couldn't find.

Quick and easy park and grab! Didn’t have pen, so here’s photo of log

05-Sep-22
Thanks for the cache and history on the incident

23-Apr-22
Even though it was before I was born, I still remember as a kid hearing about the murders. Cache was looking happy in its hidey hole. Extracted, then I retreated, then returned as discreetly as possible. Tftc

10-Apr-22
Having dropped GeohoundandI at EGGS for a water polo match we were headed for some caches in Newmarket but trying find somewhere close to park without having to sell a kidney even on a Sunday evening was a bit much. Daddypig123 didn't even have a building site to sneak into. So we ended up down here.
A quick find, not much traffic on the toad or the path, so signed the log and replaced the cache then waited hours for the traffic lights to change.

19-Feb-22
Had been on a quick drive to the North Shore to see Miss NZT with Geodog in tow.

On the way back home Mrs NZT suggests a stop for a couple of caches.... NO ARGUMENT from Mr NZT.

We stop here in the heart of Remers and take Geodaog for a walk while we make the quick find here. Told Geodog to take a GOOD SNIFF as that smell is MONEY!!!!!! OMG valuations for houses here are in the MILLIONS!!! Instructed geodog NOT to toilet in this area Big Grin

I'm completing the three volcano walk today and I came across this awesome camouflage cache. TFTC!

19-Oct-21
Took a walk over here for a break from watching Zoom lectures, with the main target being a solved puzzle (didn't attempt, too many muggles) and a bit of mountain climbing. I had to stop and get this one, though--I spotted it during a lockdown walk, didn't even know there was a cache here but was going past and noticed something that looked like a cache, which was confirmed when I checked the maps later. Today it was much busier at GZ but after waiting for a break in traffic I was able to retrieve the cache, take it down a side street to sign, and replace after more cars went past. TFTC G-2 Smile

Found it on a beautiful Lockdown day.Didn’t have a pen so included photo of log

09-Jul-21
Needed to grab a cache today, so headed out to work early and took a bit of a detour. Arrived at GZ and was pretty sure I knew where the cache was, but there was a muggle waiting to cross the road. So, as it started raining, I took the time to open my umbrella and used that for cover as she started crossing the road.

I had the cache in hand nice and quick and took it away to sign it, came back and had to wait for the same muggle to stop paying attention before I could replace it. Thanks for the cache #1250

09-May-21
The getting of, and replacing thereto, is somewhat challenging, but mission accomplished, finally, waiting, waiting...done. Tftc.

10-Jan-21
Well done CO for the great cache and a great disguised. A fav point from us.

08-Jan-21
Out fairly early meant I easily got a park and headed to GZ. Soon spied the hide which was the wrong way up so signed in and replaced as should be. Thanks G-2.

I was tasked with the airport run today as our daughter was flying back in from Blenheim having spent New Year away at parties and friend's houses. Never one to look a gift-cache in the mouth I volunteered to do the job as it meant I could go to the airport 'via' Mount Hobson and the TMGT cache there as well as the collateral others in the area. If I had time I was going to do some more out Mangere way.
Alas the rain came down and a severe downpour put the dampers on the plan and so after the Mt Hobson area ones I headed out near the airport onto Landing Drive and mopped up a few out that way.

09-Dec-20
Nice cache! I am 11 years old finding geocaches around Auckland. My Mum found this one. Thanks G-2

25-Apr-20
A bit tricky but I found it!

25-Feb-20
Today, Mrs. Liver Bird had to have a procedure done at a nearby dental specialist. So, instead of hanging around the waiting room for 30 minutes to an hour, Mr. Kiwi hatched a plan to see if there were any caches in the vicinity that he could quickly go and nab. Five caches were in the area including this one. LordCacher08 was having a day off school due to illness and had to come along as well. He was quite pleased to be tackling Mt. Hobson and the motorway overbridge so didn't grumble too much.

The next cache on our little jaunt around this area was this cache, only a short walk from where Mrs. Liver Bird was having her procedure. There was really only one place that a cache could be hidden here, so it was just a matter of searching the possible hiding place for the cache. It didn't take too long as this could be a busy intersection, luckily it wasn't too bust at this time.

It didn't take long at all for the cache to be located here and we just had to use our stealth to sign the log and replace the cache.

Probably my only weekend in November in Auckland. Found while in the area to pick up Tuia Mātauranga GeoTour cache on Mount Hobson. All good at GZ. Nice hide.

Day trip to Auckland to pick up some TMGT series

19-Oct-19
I was in the area and decided I should grab a cache while out. I noticed there was a Geotour cache near my destination so picked that for this morning's mission. As a bonus there was three other caches near by with a few favorites.
After coming down from the hill I looked for this one - it turned out to be in the more likely spot rather than the first three places I tried.

Find number 6130. After a walk up and down the nearby hill. We arrived at GZ. A short search and the cache was found. All good here not like it would have been back in 1963. Thank you for the placement.

After having found "The Geo-Quiz Cache(Auckland)" in a very early morning, I left hubby for the day as he needed to work. decided to take a walk, without any specific direction and see where I ended up.
I appeared to be on the wrong side of road, when I saw suspious location. After having crossed the road, the GPS pointed me to a slighly different location where the nicely camoflaged cache was found. Have to give you favorite G_2 Wink

A quick and easy find, not too many people about. FP from me. Cheers

Another quick trip up to Auckland to visit family, and another opportunity to find a few caches. Lovely caching weather today too.

Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

Lot of ants showing interest but cache is intact. Used this as an excuse as a 10km walk in the sunshine from Glendowie to Remuera.

07-Apr-19
#609. Found after a couple of attempts and a few false starts. I really like the camo. I really don't understand the hint. But no worries, it wasn't too hard! And not too many muggles around on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Thanks for the cache!

06-Apr-19
Team G0LD ( Lis's Crew, DaffyNZ and 0B80B8 ) on a mission again with two main objectives today. The first was to locate all the Smile series caches that we had worked on solving over the last couple of months and the second was to find enough other high FP caches to get the required 500 points for the caching carnival souvenirs. With almost no local caches available for us, a trip south to Auckland was going to be the only way to achieve our goal.

Due to other commitments, Sat 6th was going to be the only day all three of us could make it and we hoped the weather would be kind, as it was for us on our last adventure. Unfortunately, not this time though, as despite the forecast being for mostly dry, with the possibility of a shower, we ended up caching in near constant rain till it cleared later in the afternoon.

This high FP cache was on our planned route today and once at GZ, DaffyNZ managed to make a quick find. A nicely done typically clever G-2 hide for a busy area in the city. TFTC

06-Apr-19
Team GOLD Lis's Crew, 0B80B8 and DaffyNZ were together again. Out and about in Auckland targeting caches with high favourite point. This one was on our list and it didn't disappoint. Nice hide in a busy street. TFTC

06-Apr-19
This turned out to be our last cache find for the day. We headed over to the Northcross Challenge cache afterwards hoping to find that one after getting a few hints at the earlier event. My mother has an apartment in Parnell so I'd been down here a few times and I'm slowly grabbing some of the nearby caches as time permits. Team GOLD quickly succeeded here today. Hiding caches in such high muggle areas requires great skill. Thanks again G-2 for your inventive hides Smile

#6672. I am up in Auckland for several days attending meetings and presenting a talk at night. After todays meeting at the museum finished at 3pm, I had a few spare hours before my flight back to Wellington tonight. So slowly making my way back to the airport via a few inner city caches. Parking was rather tight in this area so had to park about 200m away and walk back. So much traffic and muggle infested indeed. Just used my eyes and eventually I spied the hide. Waited for the gap in the traffic and grabbed the cache and signed it down the road and then returned it as found once the coast was clear. Thanks G_2 for another nicely placed and created cache. Interesting stories about the murders and the Jorgensen mystery. Favourite awarded.

07-Mar-19
Already had today's cache but walking back to town was passing this. After a dnf a few days ago just strolled up and grabbed it. Should have saved for another day. Well it's logged so can't go back now. Ttc and the nice longish walk after work.

Meanwhile this is my third geocaching-trip to Middle-Earth Smile. And I love it! [:X]
Still there are routes and places in this beautiful country that are on the 'discover-me' list and want to be visited and explored. Big Grin – but Auckland, the city of sails – my personal pearl [:X] - belongs to the favourite places ever since the first trip and is a steady ‘always’ visiting place Big Grin!
Day #13:
Did not do much of caching today Red Face.
But happily strolled around some wonderful and scenic places [^]:
The lake by the zoo, the waterfront, the city, and of course the beautiful park around the Auckland Museum Big Grin. Picked up some treasures as they occurred Wink.
Just like this one:
On the way back to the hotel in Mt. Wellington i picked this last one for the day Wink
A wonderful little hide with a genius camouflage and funny hint [^]! This was my highlight of the day [^] and I happily reward this with a favorite point Smile.
Thanks to the owner [:X] for placing and maintaining this cache and best regards from Germany! SmileSmile

Quick find in a freezing wind. Tftc. #751. Greetings from Adelaide South Australia

17-May-18
It was pouring down this afternoon after work but only showers when I got here. I managed to park on a yellow line out of harm’s way though and walk 10m to the cache. I was tempted to stop at 115 Bassett Rd, but just didn’t get the time. Cheers G, nice work on the camo as usual.

Log later

22-Apr-18
Quick find on the way home from a family trip to the museum. Thanks!

11-Apr-18
After parking a couple of blocks away I made my way to GZ on foot. And after checking that neither Jorgensen or any other gangsta types were around I began my search for the cache and so had it in hand. Loved the camo on this one and also thanks for the historical info on the cache page... very interesting. So the log book has been signed and the cache is nicely back in its spot all ready for the next finder. So thank you as always G--2 for taking the time to set up all of your caches... you are a legend! Smile

11-Apr-18
Was over in Newmarket just after lunch today, so swung by here afterwards to collect a couple of caches. A very nice hide, brilliant camo, gets FP, cheers

23-Jan-18
It was a bit hard at first but I found it

18-Jan-18
After some earlier, very wet disappointment, we found this cache quite easily. Though in bringing it to the car, I inadvertently brought some little friends which made me freak out just a little bit. We got drenched for this one, but we're still working on that streak (why? just for kicks, I guess).

18-Jan-18
We're dedicated geocachers aren't we. It wasn't raining when we first went out but we knew it was probably going to rain. Well, rain is probably an understatement. It was absolutely pouring and we still kept looking for a cache to keep our streak going. After 2 that we gave up on because it was too wet and dark to search, we kept going (well, we were already soaking wet anyway!) and finally found this one. Log is full! Tftc Smile

14-Jan-18
As others have noted the log is very full! Quiet here in a Sunday so quick grab. TFTC

14-Jan-18
Original design of cache. Logbook full.

29-Dec-17
He was meant to write "C R" but he wrote it the other way round... mistakes were made here... TFTC

25-Sep-17
Well that was fast! Literally the fastest found cache in months and 3pm Monday vehicle + muggle traffic is lite enough that wasn't any sneaky trouble.

15-Sep-17
Had a bit of time to kill before we fancied some dinner so decided to come and get this cache.a good hide had to retrieve it quickly as the traffic went by and put it back using the same method.unfortunately unable to sign the log though as it is full.

20-Aug-17
If anyone is coming to do this one bring another log sheet. Cool history in the area. Interesting camo. And yay it's my head height. Lol Tftc

15-Jul-17
2.35am - On another mission to Auckland with Bruce, Hemi, Phillip and myself. Tonight we are logging as the Bay Raiders. We had several puzzles to collect and visit others so hopefully Night Challenge will be completed that we are working on. Idea was to meet in Hamilton and travel in one vehicle. We found our first night cache at 11.45pm and last one at 5am next morning, then it was back to Hamilton for an event cache. SLTFTC

15-Jul-17
Time to execute the grand plan and commit to another night raid on Auckland. FapandGap, Squirrel nutcase, Davidson clan & myself signed the logs 'Bay Raiders' probably the most appropriate name we've used to date.

I really enjoyed the history here - little things where if it not for caching I'd have never known. Cheers G-2, an interesting bit of camo - typical you Smile TFTC.

15-Jul-17
Logged Bay Raiders up with Squirrel nutcase and Gap from FapandGap and Philip.Perry for a nights caching.
Log sheet full had to over write on top of others name.

15-Jul-17
With Gap (of Fap and Gap), (Mr) Davidson clan, and Philip.Perry... We collectively signed the logs as Bay Raiders... Night caching.

Sunset: 5:23 PM
First cache: 11:45 PM
Last cache: 5:25 AM
Sunrise: 7:30

Mr Davidson had been planning this trip for a while, and it was a no-brainer to be on board. We had a very tight route plan organised, and a lot of different caches to hit to satisfy a variety of challenges we are currently working on... We are suckers for historicity and great cache names. This one fit the bill perfectly... It took a quick circuit to find this one. The camouflage was awesome, but not enough to deter this group of hardened cachers. TFTC.

01-Jul-17
The weather today was appalling but perfect for keeping the muggle population down so we thought it was a good time to give this one a go.
We arrived at GZ and were pleased to find no muggles on foot although still plenty in their cars waiting at the nearby traffic lights.
This posed a bit of a problem as the muggles had nothing else to do while waiting for a green light than to look at what was happening around them, which today was just us hanging around suspiciously in the rain.
Precision timing was therefore necessary and we sprang into action as soon as the light went green while positioning ourselves so the tree blocked us from the muggles waiting at the other red.
Unfortunately in our haste we dropped the log and the high winds momentarily blew it into view of the red light muggles who were startled to see Mr Coblet diving out randomly from behind the tree and chasing what looked like a piece of rubbish as if it were a priceless antique before disappearing back to where he came from.
Once retrieved, the log was then quickly signed and returned to its very clever hiding spot before we made a hasty retreat just as the lights changed to red again.
Excellent camo, it blends in so well. Thanks G-2 for another great cache.

I C U. Thanks for the cache.
