I happened to be passing this afternoon on my way home from a new hide down by the river, and thought I'd take a peek... aha... just as I suspected, the container was still in place (though the fake rock that had adorned it has long gone walkabout). Another to add to the growing collection of former caches to repurpose.

Thanks for the hide, PESRCoady. It's a shame that circumstances beyond our control make what should be a great spot to visit more than a little unsavoury.

Nice place but no find for us today.

09-Mar-13
Had looked for this one last year, and saw a group of teenage boys disappearing as we approached, but the smell of 'funny smoke' lingered. Didn't find it then, and many others haven't since, so didn't spend too long looking. As noted by others, there is some evidence left by the teenagers of their activities. Did find a box of matches hidden under a rock so decided in the interests of safety to pocket those. Owner might need to check their cache to verify if it is still there.

05-Mar-13
Seems to have disappeared. Searched everywhere within a 10m radius of the coordinates and couldn't find it. Sanguine spread her search out even further, but still had no success.

05-Mar-13
We gave this one a real thorough search, but cannot find it. May have been muggled?

27-Jan-13
Picked a perfect day for a hike and cache trip today!!
Looked for awhile and alas was not successful.
No pond to speak of!
Though it seems that the area may be frequented by youngsters, as the area was littered with milk cartons?? and saw a few makeshift bongs was well scattered around.
Oh well maybe next time with a fresh pair of eyes will I be lucky.

20-Jan-13
On a difficult day I hope the bananas don't give to much away but, we couldn't even find the pond let alone find the treasure today. So be it. Perhaps next time.

19-Jan-13
Tricked by the "pond" & overshot before finally found it
Pond was waterless:)

15-Jan-13
Found it easily enough. I think there is something missing off the container. Made 3 attempts to get to this area before getting there. Was not going to walk through long glass after I saw a snake on the foot path. Maybe not the best summer cache.

Love the area good hide. Thankyou!

Found it!2nd cache for me in australia.quick find.

01-Jan-13
Looked for 20 mins but didn't find it. Fear of snakes kept us from persevering.-kodakian

Just enough time between jobs for a short walk to attempt a couple of caches I'd missed while riding along the Yarra trail earlier in the year. This time, I checked out a few places further around from previously, and found a hide more in keeping with the cache name than the pencil case I'd found (and not signed) the other time. That's more like it.

Well I struck gold here today - 2 containers! Surprised Ah but which is the actual cache container, the kids 'pencil case' or the small systema container (containing a proper log book) about 5m away? I can't believe what some cachers do just to get a smiley. Wink They can't find the cache so they put a piece of paper in a pencil case that happens to be lying around and then log the cache as found. Strangely enough 12-15 other cachers come along (including some very experienced ones), find the pencil case and sign the piece of paper. Surprised I've emailed the CO re the confusion.

As it happens I work a couple of minutes away from the cache and went looking for it many months ago but only found the said pencil case. It started pouring down that day and I had to get back to work and haven't been back since. Recently I noticed on the cache page a couple of photos of the 'real' container. I finally had time to check it out tonight after work - thought I'd better do it before snake season. I found both containers but only signed the log in the real cache (a small systema) at 7:25pm. Took: a collie dog, Left: a lion.

Thanks PERSCoady for the very interesting caching experience. I took the attached photo of both containers.

WOOOOO HOOOOO 800th Cache. This one was just too easy and now I know what I can do with my daughters versions of the cache container.
Some muggle kids were working on a school assignment but that was fine as they stayed away.

I made my way across to Greensborough at about 6pm for a meal / going away party at a Japanese restaurant. This went about an hour and a half longer than expected.. which ment that Steve and John had to occupy their time around Heidelberg before we met up closer to Greensy..
Over Dinner I txt'ed landau about "my key" cache and he asked about another nearby, we decided to meet there, however a mix up of GC codes saw me visit this area first.. however once here I decided to seize the opportune cooler and night conditions to grab this one.. On my first visit here I got scared away by a tiger snake..

This was one of about 24 caches for the night.. After we met up with Stemicmitsar and SirJ-Oz for a fun all nighter of caching and punny stuff.. Thanks PESR Coady for getting it started and stretching the legs.. Find # 3154

Cache #4 on my first attempt at Goecaching

Found without too much trouble. I used to catch tadpoles here when I was a kid. Logbook is a little bit soggy but otherwise cache is OK. Be REALLY careful of snakes in here especially with the long grass that is all around now.

A peaceful location at GZ, nice and quiet. Cache was in the first place we looked - an interesting choice of container. Cheers!

13-Nov-12
Nearly my third DNF in a row but I persisted until I found it. It looks like the camo has come of the cache lid and I suspect, in the interests of keeping it hidden, the cache has been moved a little from its original location. TNLN, TFTC.

After getting back to a computer, I know it may be month later.. (Jan 13) I have read back and I may have been another victim to the fake Cache/Pencil case..... Well I remember the cache and the day.. I was a little disappointed with this cache so now it lifts my heart that I may have the chance to find the real cache.

This was my second attempt for this one. Found while out on my early morning run in a place I'm sure I checked but just didn't see previously. Most underwhelming cache to find - very sad Sad
The clue doesn't really help as I couldn't see any 'pond' and if there was a pond it wasn't that close to it.

27-Oct-12
First Cache we found together!

24-Oct-12
I forgot to mention there was a bloody BIG brown snake (2metres) moving 'with a mission' within 20 metres of the cache site. Take care!

24/09/12 2:15 PM Find #1420 A very quick find as I approached from the perfect angle and could see it. Just as well because its starting to rain. I've not found a cache container like this before. Thanks PESRCoady.

23-Sep-12
Yeah there wasn't much to see in the makeshift container besides an old Qantas boarding pass, it may have looked prettier with some decorative rubbers but now looks pretty sparse. It was easy to find but not very memorable!

21-Sep-12
I think this has been muggled.. What we found was a child's pencil case with a note saying "take something leave something" bit disappointing. Was looking forward to it.

21-Sep-12
Please check cache, refer to my log

29-Aug-12
Hmmm... the only container I found had a polite note and a plastic anteater... and was on the ground in the middle of the clearing.

12-Aug-12
This took us a little longer to find had to revert to looking at recent logs which helped pond is not very high but heard frogs. Watch out as the weather warms up plenty of places for snakes to hide

11-Aug-12
Dodged a few rain showers and went in to have a look for this one. It took us about half an hour - our GPS showed GZ a few metres away. Lovely spot. TNLN. TFTC

Bit tricky but found in about 10mins with jimmytherat. Look out for spiders!! ??

Great spot with lots of rocks but no water in the pond. Someone had kindly mown a path through the long grass near the cache

Found @1654 #1606
This was the final cache found today and was the hardest to find. Spent a good 40mins searching and after using a PAF had some advice which allowed me to focus my search. Still however it took me awhile to find. In the end found it in a place that I am sure I had search earlier. A very satisfying findBig Grin. I was about to call this a DNF. Today the cache was about 5m out. TFTC PESRCoady a good one to finish the day on with a total 12 finds.

Find # 1697

Today was another day that I needed a cache for my project 366, but I had some chores to do first this morning and finally had a chance to get out and do some caching this afternoon. I had never really cached in the Heidelberg area before, so I packed the bike in the car and off I went.

I parked nearby, pulled the bike out of the car and off I went. This one had me tricked for some time, with my GPSr acting erratic, I had a hard time getting it under 7M. I checked toe hint and checked the relevant spots, was about to give up, then I tried one last spot and bingo, I now had two cache containers in hand. I signed the one with the log book and off I went. Nice quiet little spot.

Thanks to PESRCoady for the cache. TNLN.

Found @ 8:40pm , find # 1376
Out for a night of caching with waffle eggs.
After finding the fairy cache we came back along the path and continued on to this one.
Upon arriveal at GZ the cache was spotted quickly as it was very exposed, the other thing is that there are two cache containers, only one with a logbook.
After signing the log, it was rehiden so not as exposed with the second one on top.
Thanks to PESRCoady for this cache.

We had to hunt around a while amongst the giant rocks, but in the end it was Geomum who spotted the cache.
Thanks PERSCoady - Terrific place - thanks for bringing us here.

Looks like the container and its camo have become detached. We moved it about 3 ft so its more concealed but hint still applies. TFTC

Have to try hard to locate this cache while geocaching for the day. Found it, signed and returned. TFTC!

Beautiful park area! I am impressed!

18-Mar-12
Number 2 of 4 found on a lovely Sunday morning ride. I was intrigued to see a fake rock container right next to the real container. Huh?

Many thanks PESRCoady.

11-Mar-12
Our second cache for today, again a nice find in a pleasant spot. The cache, while still well hidden, appears to have been muggled several times recently, by alternately courteous and discourteous folks who have left messages in the log.

06-Mar-12
Nice spot, no snakes as it was too cold. Got to GZ and started an initial scan of the area and saw the cache, partly obscured. Not sure if its meant to be like this but i left it as is. Was worried when i read the description and it said 'original contents were some rubbers', erasers is a more choice word! TFTC.

04-Mar-12
Probably too good camou. Though too anxious of potential snakes, so no too detailed search ;P

Another good one PESRCoady. Enjoyed the stroll through the woodlands and scattered pathways.
This sure had plenty of GIANT ROCKS within the proximity of GZ, however a reduction in mind-set towards these rocks soon had the cache in hand.

16-Jan-12
Sneaky little hiding spot. We saw a severed snakes head right at GZ. This place would be crawling with them at this time of year I reckon. Thanks. Cool camo too.

29-Dec-11
Cool place. No idea that there's this little pond!!

29-Dec-11
Walked up to this one stomping the ground as the grass was getting a bit long for me dressed for the occasion in sandals!! [:o)] No snakes but I did see a small lizard and the forgs were in full song so the danger was real. Nice pond and atmosphere here. A quick find after taking due care. TFTC SL

23-Dec-11
Found @ 13:25 on a very warm day. After reading the other logs we approached through the longish grass with much stealth. Luckily no snakes were sighted, but no sign of the blue tongue lizard either. Quickly found the cache with the sun reflecting on the slightly exposed plastic. TFTC PESRCoady.

Didn't see the reptile that obviously likes this spot despite the increased human traffic. GPSr wasn't playing nice, extended my search area to make the find. Thanks.

21-Nov-11
A nice little detour off the bike path. A total lack of any wildlife around the pond today, but I was keeping an eye out.
Nice bit of camo on the cache.
Thanks, Robmc.

TFTC another fantastic camouflaged cache.

Drove up and parked, then move a little further down the road for convenience - right opposite an unmarked speed camera vehicle as it turned out!...

A short walk to an attractive little spot, the first thing I saw was a striped tail slither into a hole between rocks... 8-o Luckily the cache was not in that direction, so searching the area I spotted a blue-tongue lizard sunning itself - it quickly ran for a hole under one of the rocks, and I couldn't help noticing its stripey tail too. I continued searching and spotted the owner of the first tail - it was indeed a SNAKE and although I'm not sure of its species (I'm guessing a Tiger Snake, although a smaller one than some I've seen...) I was glad of the reminder to look before you grab and watch where you step as you don't just find geocaches even this close to suburbia!... It slithered remarkably quickly for its hidey-hole and I was glad of it to be out of the way!

BEWARE OF THE SNAKES - but leave them alone, they don't do any harm just make sure you let them know you're coming and they will do their best to stay well out of your way!

A few minutes more searching, helped by a previous log, I spotted the camoed cache and logged my find (and dropped off one of my path-tags). TFTC

The blue-tongue was sunning itself right next door to the cache, and seemed sluggish or just unbothered by my presence so I was able to have a good look at it and take a photo (which I'll upload to the gallery) Smile

Great little hidey, loved the camo
other than the obvious disguise, it was sitting out in the open. There was evidence of recent muggle activity almost on top of the GZ so re-covered it more discretely.

Thx

I didn't find it.. I was curious about the 50-70cm long tiger snake at GZ.. A local came over and warmed me, I turned around and spotted another (or the first one could have moved really really quickly?).. I may attempt at night time.. or on a really really cold day.. today was perfect time to find as the gardeners had trimmed all the grass very short..

You just have to love school holidays. I’d taken a few days off to have the kids at home but they wanted to got to Footy Finals day at the holiday school program at a local school so I organised with a caching buddy, jsmyong55 to go out north and grab a few caches while the kids were being taken care of kicking the footy and eating hot dogs. So off we went and tried to nab as many as we could in the limited time we had. It was a relatively successful day with only 4 DNF but I’m sure they weren’t there. Anyway this is one of the caches we picked up today. We search every rock until the last! Thanks PESRCoady.

30-Sep-11
After class, it was time for a caching run with caching buddy Trailrunning to grab some caches along the north eastern suburbs. Weather as usual was lousy but we kept on. Found quite a number of caches and few DNFs today.

Looked under many rocks but did not see a cache until the last one we searched. Dont know how we could have missed that. TFTC Smile

25-Sep-11
Found without problems; indeed it lacked much camouflage. I covered it a little more as an anti-muggle precaution as I left, I hope without changing the diffiulty level.

25-Sep-11
Out caching today for the first time in a while, after having recently injured my back (must be getting old). After finding a car park close by, I was able to make the short walk into the park to hunt around for the cache. These certainly are some large bits of basalt. I had to use the clue to locate this one in the end. Half way through signing the log my phone rang, it is amazing how difficult in is to juggle a GPS, phone, pen, water bottle, car keys and the myriad of other bits of stuff I feel it is necessary to take on a caching trip, all while trying to talk on the phone. I got there in the end and returned the cache to its hiding place. Thanks for the cache PESRCoady.

This was my very first cache find! [^] I got it with two other people. I saw the previously mentioned blue tongue lizard in between the rocks and I think finding that was more exciting than discovering the cache! I liked how a fake rock was stuck on top of the container.

03-Sep-11
Was orienteering in this park so picked this one up with some folk doing geocaching for the first time. Blue tongue still lives nearby but was just showing its tail today.
