On a mission today to Kawerau and surrounding areas, then through the lakes to Rotorua and then home to Tauranga.
7th find and it was a hot walk up the hill today but glad to get another smiley in beautiful Kawerau.
Cache found quickly but quite infested. Inside the container was fine though and log book was damp but writeable.
Shook the bags out a bit and replaced.

Went into park from southern end, although hill small enough, did I ever have a sweat on by the end of it all. May have been weather related. The GZ reminds me of past job of spotting evidence of historic Pre-European of occupation. There is a lot of this sort of historic evidence around the wide Kawerau, its nice for a change to see it recognized, and somewhere close to a town.

This was a mission to climb to the summit after just doing stairway to the mountain and I was tight on time needing to get back to Rotorua to pick kids up from school I'm sure I've been here before must of been a DNF last time. Anyway I huffed and puffed my way to the top and too my surprise I made a really quick find in the only place it could be.
All quiet here today was a car in the carpark but I never came across the muggle in my hunt . Arrive at GZ and made a quick find signed the log then I was off to the next cache by the lake.
I'm logging this as part of my GIO LEARNERS LICENSE 1 where one of the requirements is to find 10 caches made of five finds of two different cache sizes this is number 1 of the small size.

Finished another day of work and decided to do a few more caches around town before leaving. This one I couldn't find. I found the sign and the stump and lots of blackberries and long grass but no cache unfortunately. It was a nice walk and a good view to see anyway. TFTC.

Well that was a big walk up the hill I was most certainly puffed by the time I got to the top. I found a black bag and a coin bag at GZ but no container or log sheet will have to try again another day. Ive put the bags on top of the stump.

Made hard work of this one, taking a straight line up the hill from River Road through the blackberry is not the best route choice. At the top the cache was a quick and educational find. Then returned back down the hill along the correct track to the back of South School. Thanks Ma & Pa.

A quick find after a short steep climb up the hill. TFTC

Nice walk up the hill. Bush bashed across and arrived on the track above. Found the cache while enjoying the view. Off to the Get Into Hot Water event. TFTC.

I can cross this one off now. A bit damp today so no work in the orchard. Had enough of paper work so went for a drive. TFTC

Quick find once we found the entrance. Left a pet rock - a calf. TFTC

27-Oct-11
Not sure if there is a sign thief in Kawerau, but got to the top by figuring all tracks would eventually get there - the steepest hill we walked up all day

27-Oct-11
Another great spot - lots of new native plantings - bit hard to find the track up but definitely got there TFTC

Couldn't work out where the entry from the South School was, so went on until we saw a SIGN, which kindly gave us a map of the reserve, so we went in from KIS entrance. Easy find with the good clue & lots of woodlice & worms had found it too. Interesting site. TFTC

Wow things happen quickly in Kawerau.
Dont know what time MacRoss was there, we may have crossed paths, he had been to keikei one before me.
Anyway I found these papers lying on the ground near by.
I was mt bikin on some other tracks so took my bike up here - dont think it was the easiest way to get there but was certainly fun gettin back to car - parked near KIS.
TFTC and very quick replacement Smile

Thanks Dominic-Aidan for the picturesque walk to GZ, we went up from the School and took the long less steep track up and the straight down track back down, must bring the MTB next time!! There were a couple of "muggle" entries in the logbook, good to see them playing along and rehiding it too. Big Grin

Nice easy find, the boys and I biked up to this one from the reservoirs.Once the cache was found we went down to South school back around to the bike park then to the truck. Some nice short down hill bits that Morgan did for the first time, I think he's hooked on down hills now Smile Thanks

Murray saw this listing just before leaving work so we shot up there on the way home. We elected to walk from The Intermediate School end which the GPS told us was around 600 metres from the car...a great walk that certainly made us puff. There is lots of work going on in the area, clearing and removing all the exotic trees and replacing them with natives. The tracks all up and down around the reserve are making this an excellent mountain bike park...quite a few Kms for keen riders.
We found the cache and were pleased to see we were the FTF! Big GrinBig Grin
(TN, left a lil beetle ring)
Janet forgot to bring her camera and there were some great photo opps.
Thanks Dominic-Aidan for taking us up to this site and congratulations on a great first cache planting.
