Let's be honest; this cache has always been a burden. Too many breakdowns, too much vandalism. I now have a new commission to build a cache in a protected muggle proof location, and curiously. it is going to include all the characteristics of this design, but in a more robust manner. So the spirit of BYOB#3 will live on!
I hereby release this delightful location to my fellow geocache makers. Enjoy and prosper!

Hi Geoff,
Yes, it has been a long time, but there has been a lot of things going on. Other than geocaching things. I dunno if I have mentioned it before but I’ve been elected President of the Denmark Machinery Restoration Group. At a very busy time! This is taking up much of my time. And Myst is still waiting to be fixed. The firebreak work has just finished and I am about to inspect the damage. If it can be replaced, that will be my first priority. And it will undoubtably be a long job. So, byob 3 is way down the to-do list. Can it wait? Realistically, I’d be happy to dump it. It has always been a troublesome child!
Cheers, Roy

Ohh,... thanks for the kind words Balayang, Sorry about the rant! Touched a sore spot there. I must confess, I have been spending most of my time building a new cache, and that’s more fun than grinding repair work. But I promise I will get around to fixing stuff ‘in the fullness of time.’
When I finally got around to looking at the cache I found it had been significantly vandalised. Someone had removed and lost the three screws and spacers that held the cap on. The cap had been left off and a lot of water had seeped down into the mechanism. I took it all back to the workshop and dismantled it. There has been a lot of damage. This is the forth cache I've had to disable recently, and the third because some idiot had no concept of playing by the rules.
When geocaching was a computer-based game, it was almost impossible to ignore the description and not have some idea of what is required. But the current smart phone app lets newbies loose without any idea of game etiquette.
My caches are fundamentally simple field puzzles. But the simplicity is paradoxically achieved by complex internal mechanism. I strive to make them as robust as I can, but a determined wrecker armed with a screwdriver or hammer or just plain unthinking ignorance can and will break anything.
"My Myst Take" was attacked by someone who decided to forcibly remove an indicator lamp and rip out its wiring. "Mecalumpus"had parts stolen by a newbie geocacher. (I've managed to get the parts back and when the weather eases down here I will re-enable it)
And I do have a real life away from geocaching that makes more important demands on my time. Repairing thoughtless or deliberate damage is galling.
So, if the option is archive or wait to I have time to repair this cache, I choose archive.

Looks like it has failed. Again. I've had a bit of surgery on my right hand so it will be a few days (or maybe weeks) before I can attend to repairs.
Found the needed parts, had a brand new battery but #3 wouldnt come to the party today. I might have to revisit at WAGB2020
Found the poles but presumably both batteries are loosing juice because we could not get this one to open

We found the right place but unfortunately we could not open the box. We tried it several times but nothing.
We got an idea about these nice caches at our Perth event last week.
This was the 1st one, but unfortunately we were not able to open this nice box.

Incredible. We thought that nearby Jarrah Splits was the best roymerc cache yet but this one comes close. Certainly impressed the young one enough to get the video camera out and repeat the opening ceremony multiple times. Thanks roymerc, we are not worthy.
Today we found BYOB #3 on our travels. The day is drawing to a close and we wondered if we had enough juice in the tank for a few more....of course we have. After parking the car this was the first target. The Chief signed the log while I checked on the progress of the sunset expecting it to be particularly lovely today because of the controlled burns.
Thanks roymerc for being part of our geocaching fun.

I told myself years ago that I should get my butt down to Denmark to do some caching, and now I'm finally here!
Another one with slightly different mechanisms. Another fav for you

TFTC,
Made a run down to Denmark to visit friends and to grab caches as the weather was getting warmer. I got to this one and things stared to look familiar but the last time I was here we approach from the other direction. Anyway I opened the log to see our name in the book obviously we forgot to log a find last time . TFTC
It was the second time for us in Australia. We stayed in this fascinating country from 11/08/-30/08/2019.
We started our travels in Perth and went in the following 20 days south to Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Pemberton, Denmark, Albany, Hopetoun and Esperance. We continued north to Kalgoorlie, further to the West to Hyden, Northam, Muchea and Cervantes. From Cervantes we drove back to Perth with a final stop at Rottnest Island.
Besides the sightseeing spots we visited and looked for different cache types as
Traditionals, Multis, WherIGos, Letterboxes, Mysteries, Earthcaches and Virtuals. It’s all in the mix.
We could lern a lot about the hide and seek in Western Australia. Maybe we can use the gained knowledge in Germany to hide some caches the way you do in Australia.
We enjoyed these amazing 3 weeks in Down Under as we could do in 2010 and we hope to come to Australia again as soon as possible.
Sorry, the logs are not unique for each cache but we had fun looking for every single one.
Fav. point in!!

It worked perfectly for us. We have a selection of batteries but so far our rechargeable 9v lithium versions seem to work best.
Woo 2nd try worked! First battery was clearly dead, so cached our way into town, bought new battery and some AAs for another cache and came back to claim this as a find!
I love the mechanics of these caches, and only wish I was this dedicated! Tftc

Another great day to go out and enjoy the sunshine and to find these caches with a challenge thanks Roymerc TFTC
A quick very cool find. Thanks for bringing us along the trail. It was a great walk on a very muggy day.
We were not able to open this one we seem to have the right contacts but our battery must not have enough guts left to charge the cap. No big deal, but we must have looked suspicious to the few cyclists that rode past a while we were fiddling. Hopefully they didn't think we were arsonists..
Opening it was a little temperamental, not sure if it was my battery or the mechanism that wasn’t working. It was neat when it eventually opened though!
Headed out to Denmark today to pick up a few caches. Thought that a BYOB would be good fun. Have never done these before so it was super enjoyable. A great little series. TFTC
Loaded up the bikes and drove out to Demark to pick up a few caches along the edge of the Wilson inlet. Really enjoyed collecting a bunch of the BYOB series. Thanks Roymerc.
Day 256 of our 366 day straight challenge. Spending the day around Denmark with ChrisRG.
Our first BYOB. Love it! TFTC

We stopped here to get Jarrah Splits but I had already got that one so I talked them into coming down for this one as well. Another great roymerc cache. The others definatly enjoyed it

Finally arriving in Denmark and some more great caches by the owner to be found . Unfortunately my battery quitted very soon, so I had to buy a new one - but then I was able to enjoy all the owner's creativity cache by cache . Hours later there were some BYOB-caches left, but regrettably I had to leave Denmark and continue to Albany . Thanks for all your efforts to establish this exceptional series and help me minimize my favo-account .
Final roymerc cache and a nice one again [:o)]. Favo +1!

This just gets better and better ! You are a geocache genius ! Have battery will reveal !
Another WOW moment here!
To think the last time I came to Denmark, two years ago, I walked along this very same trail and had no idea all these extraordinary geocaches were right beside me the whole time! Thanks again for all the effort put into this one.

Beautiful trail, beautiful location, an excellent cache. Yep, another definite fave!
Thanks roymerc!

A beautiful stroll along the track to GZ, with our tool in hand we read and followed the instructions to reveal a log book to sign, a favourite point here today TFTC and your brilliance
I am down south again for the second weekend in a row, this time with the Geoson for a bit of a boys weekend. Stayed in Bunbury of the Friday night then headed for Walpole for night 2.
Headed home via Albany.
Needed this one for a hidden date and to get another BYOB fix. As others have stated things look a bit wobbly, but it works and I was able to sign the log.
Another fave added.
roymerc SVKR_WA found your cache BYOB #3 today at 08:38:15 21 Oct 2018.
I am happy to have found it and thank you for placing it and adding to this great game.
This find brings my find count to 3244

For the third time I've had to put this cache back into the ground. I've generally assumed the digging up was the work of idiot vandals. I would hate to think it was geocachers in a fit of righteous indignation at this blatant disregard of the geocoding rules about digging holes. Please note that the Shire of Denmark (who have the overriding jurisdiction of this land) have given me specific permission to do this.

Suscoe relocated to Denmark for a few days today and we arrived late morning.
There was a bit of drizzle around and some sunny breaks as well.
We enjoyed our late morning and afternoon wander around the town and the nearby bushland and trails.
Thanks to roymerc for this hide.
Approaching GZ we saw the device laying on the ground.
It appears that someone had pulled it out of the ground.
So we checked the operation and it worked.
Log signed and then we set about replanting it.
Hope we did a good job but it might be worth checking at some stage.
A favourite from us, nice views too.

Today was meant to be a caching day. Friendly geocachers from Perth recommended the BYOB caches in Denmark.
So I started with the Visitor's Center where I wanted to stop anyway. The chocolate therr is worth a try, folks. Yummi.
As I wanted to enjoy the region by hiking anyway, I combined this with this great hobby. Arriving in Denmark, I sneaked into the local IGA getting something for lunch and a 9V battery. After the bite I had enough “power“ for roymecs different BYOB caches. I had a lot of fun and a great time hiking.
I am sorry for the united log texts for today. I will not reduce any cache with that as they are all genious and clever made. Otherwise, I am afraid I would spoil too much.
TFTC is not quite the proper “thank you“. This was a lot of fun.

This cache was found today and brings our overall cache find tally to 9978. We found this as part of our 2018 Round Australia trip.
If I could give this cache multiple favourite points I would, this was great, I was amazed with this one and had to take a video to show the family when I caught up with them a bit later. I'd love to know some more about the workings of this one but in the meantime, here is another one of our favourite points.
Thanks roymerc for the cache.

Down from Geraldton for a few nights in Albany with Team Bastholm loving the scenery. Simply amazing from me.
With the extended family heading south for the weekend a plan was hatched to go on a slight detour to get some caching done with MissNerdBerger. Our plan? To grab a few on the way down to Denmark and finish up with the family in Nannup.
Our first stop in Denmark and what a beauty it is, found quickly at GZ and MNB squealed with joy as the cache presented itself. TFTC.

With a bush walking event coming up that coincided with the beginning of the school holidays, plans had to be made for an extended trip. Being half way down from Perth, we seized the opportunity and planned our travels around geocaching in Denmark. We weren't disappointed. Despite a severe weather warning in place and torrential rain starting just as we left the car, we walked along from BYOB 1.1 to BYOB 12. Half way down the track, shoes were soaked and hands were freezing. But never mind, with rain coats and rain pants we persevered. The kids loved every minute, they fought who's turn it is to open the box (their suggestion: maybe he can make a team work one where you need two batteries;-). Thank you so much for the ingenuity. Caches like yours put a big smile on everyone's face, regardless of the weather.
Quick retrieving and signing and back on the bike for the next cache. Thanks roymerc.
Found while Walking Bibbulmun track from Kalamunda to Albany. Many thanks for the cache. Few days much needed R/R
Found while in the area thanks for the cache favourite point from me.well done !!!!!!
Today our plan was to tackle more roymerc caches and get Mrs80 to the dentist. Again both were achieved. Each cache we visited continued to show us something a little different from the last. Every cache was on our favourite list and thoroughly enjoyed. Only one box under a rock to be found. Thanks Roy for another fantastic day out. Love these BYOB's. TFTC
We are really enjoying this series and we are glad the rain has stopped for the moment. TFTC
Visiting Denmark for the day and took the opportunity to grab a few more BYOB.
Geo kids and adults enjoyed the two caches we were able to complete before geo daughter had enough. Will come back next holidays with the bikes to finish the series.

Hm, I was sure we had done this one once before - YEARS ago! Not sure if this is a double with another roymerc or if we forgot to log it back then??? Who knows, but we knew what to do straight away and enjoyed the mechanism springing to life
Thanks again roymerc - these are so much fun!

Impressive craftsmanship and favourite worthy.
After two nights in Albany we have headed to Denmark for an overnight stay and some quality caching thanks to the locals COs.

Another clever cache! We really appreciate all the time & work that has gone into these caches. Beautiful location too! Tftc
Apologies for the late log. I did a road trip (from Melbourne) through WA and with all the caches found along the way I am only now catching up with my logs. I attending a geocaching event in Victoria a few months back and when I mentioned my planned WA trip the standard response from seasoned cachers was 'well, you will be going to Denmark obviously'. I hadn't planned to as our trip was north of Perth but once I had dropped the family at the airport I thought nothing of a 400km diversion to spend half a day caching in Denmark before the solo drive home across the Nullarbor. Was it worth it? You bet it was!
Having found 16 caches already I was already beyond the time I had planned to leave Denmark and would be pushing it to get to Esperance before dark. But the BYOB series were so good I had to try one more. Well just a few more then! I parked at the recommended spot and found five more along this section. This was the first and another lovely hide that I was able to quickly access. Thanks for the cache roymerc. Another favourite point heading your way.

Couldn't get this one to operate?? Battery still good but never mind. Maybe try again later
Found at 12:39:00 PM.
The hardest bit about finding this cache was actually getting in to the parking spot due to some technical difficulties on my end. On the cache owner end, well I am continuing to exclaim at how much fun we are having searching for these caches and the joy in opening all of them.
Thanks for the cache roymerc, it was cache number 2287 for me and was number 25 in my run of 32 for today's geocaching effort.
Cheers

How can I keep saying I liked it but in different words. I will just have to be more imaginative with my superlatives. This was a fantastically creative cache or as PP1 says 'it's a cracker'....what can I say, he is a northerner. TFTC another favourite point.....I have over 200 so please feel free to put some more of your creations out there
Arriving at our parking spot for the night and booking in , we noticed pushbikes for rent, so after a short chat to the loverly girl at the office we had our wheels our first cache was on the bridge and excitement was high [^] and legs were still feeling good (haven't ridden a bike for some time) so off on a trail of adventure we went, finding all the caches we looked for easy , making for quick passage along the trail, till number 10 didnt open , doh
so turn back we did to get the second stage of the multi prior, which the battery opened easy as i hope 10 is still a goer [?]
we are looking forward to more, many thanx

This one had us stumped for a while, until we read the description (rookie error - always read the descriptions!!) and then we were sorted. Yet another video for our east coast mates bragging about the calibre of these awesome caches we are finding today - all by roymerc. What a great time we are having - here's another well-deserved favourite point!
Found by Mary & David at 1325. We're back again after having so much fun with your caches last year. Enjoyed the walk from the parking area listening to the pulse of the ocean. Just had lunch at the Boston Brewing Co, and the tasting paddle cheered Mary up immensely - awful, weather and she packed the wrong clothes. A lot of changes in this area since our last visit in June '16. An amazing cache that is well up to the usual impressive standard We've given it a FP. Our thanks to roymerc.
