Hi bumandworkerThis geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit and after my previous reviewer note, there has been no owner response. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived. Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.RegardsTheCoddiwompler
Taking it upon myself to upkeep Nelson cache quality, since many are found only once in a while. This should normally be an 'owner attention required', but since bumandworker is no longer active in geocaching, I'm going to suggest a 'reviewer attention required' / 'needs archiving' instead. Would be a nice spot for a new cache some day.
Looks like, since the last find, the sea might have eroded the “bank” the cache had been on 3 yrs ago.
Spent some time looking but nothing to find here. Part of the bank as eroded and it could have slipped down. No signs of a beacon for a cache. I suggest someone bring a replacement to this wonderful place. chRcheuse and I walked all the way out. 4 hours to this point. Now need to walk back.
Long walk for a dnf. But I saw a couple of if chicks under rocks I was searching so gave up. Quick lunch and long walk back.
What a stunning morning. In Nelson for the day due to work time to walk some serious miles and see this sea side city last cache for the day it's now 1515 and a 2 hour walk back.
Here Jul1ane and me searched for at least an hour, but didn't have success. Our GPS even showed 0m at a spot. Felt like we looked under every rock. Either the cache is gone, or we're too stupid to find it. In the latter case it's a cache not to our liking, hidden under some random rock, maybe even buried...
We had a fantastic day in Collingwood yesterday - so whats on today. Was to be biking Motueka but a generous offer of a boat ride from Bullertrout changes things. So we are having a great time, out in a dinky boat around Nelson Harbour, with Bullertrout for a few hours.
Its around the point and another stop here for me. Thanks Bullertrout. Lots of big boulders to traverse here but finally get to shore and up the back to meet a nest. Ok back down and along, then up and over there. No its back over there. Finally tracked this one down and tagged. Cheers. Back to the boat.

Last cache of the day and the long boulder walk to go but no DNFs so a great day caching, TFTCs
Found with TregearP on a walk out to the end of the Boulder Bank and back.
A quick find and all in good condition. Thanks for the cache.
A quick find and all in good condition. Thanks for the cache.
I ran / jogged the length of the boulder bank to see if I could find this cache. I left my car at the other end at 6.15 am and arrived here at about 8 am. Not too bad because it's hard to keep up a good pace on the stones.
I watched a ship go out while I was nearing this end of the bank. What a cool place!
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.
Thank you

23/03/17 - I embarked on a run to the far end of the reserve as I was certain I would get two more D/T squares checked off. Sadly, now I've checked I already have one in this square! Regardless, On the way back I picked up no less than 12 caches, I hadn't realised there were quite that many on this track. Tftc
Sidewaze and I have had a plan for completing these Boulder Bank caches for ages but so many things keep getting in the way. That's life! Finally today things all came together to partially execute that plan and get the caches on Haulashore Island and the lighthouse end of the Boulder bank. We couldn't have planned it better as the weather was perfect for the ferry crossing and wander along the bank. The bonus was that Libitee was able to join us today as well. Feels good to knock this one off. TFTC # 10,200
We all seem to have had so much on lately that it was great to be out caching this morning. It was an absolutely stunning day for it. We got the ferry to Haulashore then got it to pick us up and transfer us to the Cut. I hadn't been this far down the Boulder Bank before. - - - Of course all that material from the seabed had to go somewhere when the channel was deepened. TFTC !
What a fascinating place! In all the many years of travelling in and out of the "Cut" this was the first time we'd stepped ashore! With hours of fishing producing zilch in the past weeks, we put our boat to a different - and far more productive - use and brought our Canadian friends with us to earn a few more smileys. TFTC
Out on a geocaching adventure with Two-atara! We had never been on the boulder bank before, but have seen it from the airplane arriving in Nelson! Interesting reading about the boulder bank. A lot of birds to be seen, but no seals! Cache was a quick find, thanks!
Last of the trip along here, except for another search for the lighthouse cache. Plenty of activity on Haulashore; boats, kayaks, 'the ferry' etc. Lots of birds and lots of noise overhead too, won't be sad for an end to that cacophony! T F T C b&w, a most enjoyable walk and a few more of your caches under the belt. Container was a little damaged but perfectly water-tight and log-book all dry and signable.
With the weather finally settled a bit it was time to try and make a concerted effort to get a few caches under the belt over Nelson way, before heading to Rabbit Island later in the afternoon to attend K_E's event. I was in the excellent company of fellow caching fans Ricardinho.nz and Jojo so we met in Blenheim at 8.30 and headed over the hill to attack the Boulder Bank on foot, both ways. A decent few kms were walked, somewhere around 16-18 and an all-up time of about 4 and half hours car to car. Got all 9 caches that had been mocking me from across the estuary and got to see Nelson city and Haulashore from yet another different angle. Great day for it with overcast skies, slight breeze and a tiny bit of sun. A lot of head-down, watch-your-step trudging and accompanied by the calls of the birds that inhabit this massive stretch of rocks. Even saw a massive sting-ray off shore when pointed out by one of the bach residents. Yeah, I know, baches out here. Seeing is believing. A wonderful stroll in good company, well worth the effort and the next days sore feet!

No seals or anything else like that today, but lots of bird life squealing and circling us as we made our way to GZ. All good with the cache, thanks B&W
Sunday's plan was another trip across the hill for a few caches that had been eluding Capperz. The idea had been mooted earlier in the week and Capperz had mentioned he might find it hard to muster any enthusiasm from many locals here to accompany him. No such problems here - Nelson remains relatively untouched by myself and Jo so we didn't really mind what the plan was. In the end it was the boulder bank, an ominous looking stretch of rocks with just the one access point for a walker, and which makes no effort at any stage to disguise just how much further you have to go. Which can be a bit demoralising when the feet start to get weary. So an 8.30am kick off, and straight to the bank we went. Suitably equipped with water (but less so on the sunscreen, as I found out later), we set off at a pretty good pace. Not a lot to see on the way down - some rowers out training, a tree full of birds, a couple of impressive stingrays and some cool looking baches, mostly unoccupied. A little bit of a rest at the lighthouse to sort some business there, and then the long trip back. We made good time on the way back though, (the only thing remotely eventful being Capperz dive-bombed by a bird) which enabled us to comfortably make the BBQ event later in the day at Rabbit Island. A quick chat to a few new faces there and we were off back to Blenheim. All up a pretty successful trip with just the one DNF, and that pretty accessible for a future return. Thanks to all the COs.

Came for a few caches today and started on haulashore island before coming here. Plenty of birds not happy to see us ! TFTC.
The aim of the day was to watch the Europa 2 cruise ship come through the cut and we made it, despite the ship being earlier than expected and also despite the unexpected attack by a seagull. Lucky I had a hat on or I think it would have drawn blood. It hurt enough anyway. We'll be wary on the way back. Sat on the concrete blocks and had an early lunch while we watched the ship pass by.
Well if you had told me I would walk to here and back, 4.5 hours trudging along, I would have said you must have rocks in your head. But thanks to my caching companion today who had already been here and had no need to come back other than because she wanted to I got to find this cache too. A great spot and such a different perspective on things. I've stood on the other side of the cut, sailed through it, flown over it, and looked out through it from the shore. Now I've stood on this side too. Tick. Mission accomplished it was time to head back to the car. Did someone mention rocks and heads? No shhhhh let's not talk about it.
Thanks bumandworker for the cache.

Out for a glorious morning's kayaking with Streetgamer. The water was as still as a mill-pond so having zig-zagged from Wakefield key to Haulashore Island to Fifeshire Rock to Tahuna and in the through The Cut we stopped off here to admire the view and grab a cache or two.
Earlier in the year we were prevented from landing here by the massed ranks of the Southern Black-backed gulls (Nelson Regiment), but with the coast now (literally) clear, there was nothing to obstruct our progress.
Approaching the GZ, we were unsure of where we needed to look given the lack of 'features' but getting closer we spotted a little hiding places amongst all the possible the hiding places.
Having brought no pen(!) I was glad for the pencil (albeit blunt - sorry no sharpener), so was able to just about scribe our names in the log.
As we left, one sole tramper passed, looking like he was about to make the long walk back to the other end of the Boulder Bank.

NZDi and I had planned a two day caching weekend with the original idea to cache from Blenheim to St Arnaud to Kawatiri Junction to Nelson on Friday, then cache around Nelson on Saturday. We decided this would be too ambitious and scaled it back and started from Kawatiri Junction instead. After getting forty caches on Friday we decided to cache the Boulder Bank then head back to Blenheim. After getting a few caches on the trip out from town, we are now on the Boulder Bank proper and this is our seventeenth find of the day.
Throughout the weekend our logs were signed Kiwimykl + NZDi or KM + ND or variations of the two with or without the date depending on the size of the space available and / or the particular logging requirements of the CO.
At long last we are at the end of our trek, but really only halfway there. To get here to 3 hours and 20 minutes, but the return trip only took 1 hour 45 minutes. Its amazing how much caching slows you down. All in all the return trip took a fraction over 5 hours. We over-ran GZ slightly and while I was back-tracking until c:geo read zero, NZDi said stop at the same time. I looked down and saw the signs of where the cache was hidden.
Once uncovered there was evidence of water in the container and the log bag was unsealed leaving the log soggy. By this stage of our trip the log repair kit was pretty depleted and I can't recall if I replaced the log or not. I did manage to rescue a couple of pathtags for my collection.
For providing a days entertainment along with some generous D/T ratings, another FP is awarded to this prolific CO.

The caches on Haulashore Island and the Boulder Bank have been taunting us for a while now, so StreetWalker hatched a cunning plan: we'd use the ferry to get to the island, find the 3 caches there, then take the ferry across to the cutting end of Boulder Bank and walk from there. This required our car to be waiting for us at the other end, as we have just the one vehicle, SW dropped me off at the wharf (with a puzzle page ripped out from the local rag), drove to the parking area at the end of the boulder bank then biked from there back to where I was waiting. We even had time for a coffee at a nearby cafe before setting off on our adventure .
After finding the three caches on the island, the ferry dropped us off not far from this cache, so it was a very short walk for us to GZ . A quick find, but we hadn't checked the logs before we left so hadn't realised that the cache lid was munted, else we could have brought a replacement container with us. Logbook still in good nick, though.
Nice viewpoint from here across to Nelson. Now to begin the looong walk to the car. TFTC.

#9359. It was neither a paddle nor a long walk for us; it was a short walk from where 'The Ferry' dropped us off. This was then followed by a long walk to where the car was parked in the boulder bank car park. I'm pleased we only walked one way; various joints were complaining loudly after our walk along the uneven terrain of the boulder bank. TFTC.
[green] I have wanted to walk the boulder bank and today was my chance. Dad came along, but had to give up before this cache. I carried on alone. I had seen some shrubs on the bank from the mainland and thought there was a little dirt and thus a good track. Am I ever wrong! I have sore ankles, shoes falling apart but I got there. And back. Woohoo! I had running-type shoes. Big mistake. Despite the hot day, full tramping shoes are a much better idea. Need the ankle support on on this terrain. It was highish tide on the way out - the smoother flats were not an option.
This cache has a broken lid - some dick dropped a rock on top a little too hard. Someone has since put it in a plastic bag, but a new, stronger, container would be a good idea.
Despite the caches being quite ordinary this is an awesome place, but I could not award a favourite - I awarded two. One here, and one at the next cache back.
Dropped off a TB and 4 pathtags. If you walked out here, help yourself to a pathtag. If you boated out - please leave them for those putting in the extra effort.
A bit of lunch and yay! The tide has dropped. a marginally (and I do mean marginally) easier walk back. Shoes were shot by the time i got back though. check out the photo!

Checked, last finder did well by leaving cache upside down. Now in a plastic bag, I forgot insulation tape to wrap round lid. Will return to that some time, or next searcher, please take a wee roll. Cheers.
A quick paddle after collecting some caches at a nearby island! managed to fend of the local seagulls to secure this one. cracked lid so hope this one survives the spring weather! TFTC and the little history lesion!
Made it!!! Two hours form the car park and thankfully, a nice easy find. Birds really noisy out here. A big sleeping seal woke up briefly, yawned and then nodded off again, basking in the sun. Time for a sit down, admire the views, have a nice steak pie then turn round and head back to the car. Heck, it looks even further going back!! Thanks for the caches BW. Great day out!!
Great day for a walk along the bolderbank Great to grab a few more of the caches. Loved watching the seal family playing around the rocks. Thanks bumandworker for the cache.
It's been a long time in the planning and a constant source of frustration having 6 unclaimed caches on Haulashore Island and the Boulder Bank. Today my good muggle friend Colin took me and Mrs M out on a harbour cruise with a deviation to get these 6. Find #4 and nice and quick with spot on coordinates. TFTC
An afternoon paddle around the harbor provided an opportunity to pick up a couple of caches. TFTC
I spent some time watching a seal playing in the surf and almost forgot to sign the log TFTC
I've done it!! I've walked the entire bolder bank and are now at noisy point!! (Loads of seagulls) I have sore feet and not looking forward to the trudge back but I've officially touched the water to claim my walk! Even got growled at from a seal! Great cache thanks
Nice walk along on a sunny - but windy! - winter's day. GPS took a bit of convincing but after a short search in all the wrong spots it settled down and success TFTC
On a geocaching adventure today. Have borrowed a friend's kayak (thank you Mick). So off to the Boulder Bank and Haulashore Island.
It was far too nice a day to stay at home so a long overdue walk along the Boulder bank was decided on. Initially we had thought we would only walk to the first cache about halfway along but soon changed our minds and went on to the furthest one. Fortunately this was a relatively quick find with the GPS and phone about to go on strike. No seals visible today and little bird life down this end. The lid on the cache is badly cracked but the log is still dry. A favourite point for the encouragement to venture along here. TFTC.
A spur of the moment decision to "do" a cache on the Boulderbank today. It turned out to be a journey to be remembered. If you do the first one along the way you might as well do the next one not much further along it was decided. It was applied until we found ourselves just a short swim from Haulashore Island A wonderful caching day was had and watching the stunning sunset was a welcome bonus. At GZ the find wasn't that hard. The lid on the container was cracked so after signing it was placed 'lid down' to avoid rainwater coming in. TFTC
Found after a short search, the last on a walk along the Boulder Bank today. The GPSr initially led me to a spot about 10 metres away and I walked past the obvious several times while looking for other hiding places. When I did find the cache, the GPSr had settled to within 4 metres of GZ. Signed log, TFTC and for giving me the incentive to come here, I have always wanted to do this walk. Signed log, TFTC
Out for a paddle, before the wind picked up. The birds were not happy about my arrival, similar to my last visit. I got to GZ and was searching with no luck...Rocks everywhere, but I can't lift them all. I was on the verge of giving up when I spotted the likely spot. Not sure how I missed that earlier. A favourite for the adventure of having seagulls diving at me. It is not the best time of year to be here. TFTC
After making a clean sweep on the island we headed via hire kayak over to the cut but had to get the right channel crossing to comply with maritime port authority requirements.
A Cut Above was first. Certain a heap of bird life and the chicks are almost adults apart from their colouring. We arrived at GZ and soon saw the tell tail sign and made a quick find. We signed the log and re hid. TFTC
We them rock hopped over to the old ruins of Haven Life and realised the hide was not the same or as easy. Our GPSr had us off the ruins and down the bank by about 6m today but we knew the cache had to be on the ruins. For us it was a long search and as we were about to give up we made the find in a nice little spot. We signed the log and re hid. We then finished off our paddle with a visited to the light house only to find our GPSr had not loaded the cache that was there.
A most enjoyable time on the harbour and the bank.

Kitty! decided a kayak trip around the harbour was in order to do maintenance on Let There Be Light, and as the chances of getting both of us out here are receding we couldn't resist grabbing this one. A few squawks were heard but the kerfuffle was over in a second or two. TFTC!
I had to replace my own cache in the area as it went missing so it was worth stopping to get this one. Nice day kayaking in the Haven, lots of vessels out there, no fish caught but was good to get out and enjoy the perfect conditions of the sea. Thank you
Beautiful place, a great way to spend one of the remaining warm days of summer. Thanks for the adventure.
Birds were all quiet today. As was the area with just our walking party of 5 - 3 existing cachers, 1 new one (having just found his first cache and made up his name) and one knowing muggle. Mrs SoBad spotted a very likely spot - just before one of the younger members of the party said the GPS was reading about 5m. Signed the log and then the rest sat by the sea throwing rocks in the water while Mrs Sobad took photos. Not sure how they wil be as it was so nice there that the phone made a better mirror than viewer. Thanks.
A long walk indeed but very pleasant on a stunning autumn morning. Not a cloud in the sky and hardly a breath of wind. Took me about 2 hours from the car park to the end of the boulder bank. Very peaceful time indeed. Lots of interesting birdlife but this time of year seems to be free of any nesting. Oh and a cache or two too... TFTC, Biggles.
Yes i agree with Biggles it is a long walk but did take a little longer i estimate about 2 1/2 hours for us but thats ok we weren't in a rush today.Didn't see any seals today but the view was amazing all the same.Tftc now for the return journey.
It is past the gulls nest period, according to the last post, but they were pretty agitated when I stopped in. Had a quick search around and continually had a gull fly straight at me and pulling up at the last second. I decided better to leave them in peace, so no find for me.
Thanks to the floods (long story) we have been left a kayak for a few days so it was an opportunity to head to the Boulder bank.
We continued our adventure down the coast past the moored boats. Ms M waited on the boulder bank while Mr M (stupidly, in hindsight) continued on to the cache. This cache is in amongst the Black-Backed Gull nesting area with three or four nests within five metres of GZ.
Breeding is from mid October to late January. We recommend that this cache and its neighbour are disabled during these months and that cachers avoid this area during the breeding season.
