Road tripping for the summer holidays. Rainy, drippy day... No one about. T.F.T.F
Heading back home after a great week in Turangi and we stopped here to pick up some caches. Weve come here once before but there were heaps of muggles so we couldnt look for the cache. Today it was a quick find, TFTC
Road trip around Lake Taupo. Great spot for a swim and is very busy. So stealth is needed when searching for this one.A very good find, grab, and sign.TFTC
When I first started geocaching many years ago I had a tradition of going out and grabbing a few caches on or around my birthday. Several years have gone by since I have done that tradition, so this year I have started again. Nice to explore our local area and find some new spots we haven't been too before.
Thanks to all the cache owners for these caches.
Nice quiet spot here this morning with no one around to interfere with the search

Thank goodness the cache was hidden in a good spot as the whole path near the river was flooded and we weren't going to go there. Met up with some very friendly locals here; checking out the lake levels (very high) and others running their dogs. They were very interested in the sport of geocaching & also offering to share their lunch with us. What a wonderful world. Cache is all good. TFTC
So happy to not have to cross the River for this one. Kept my feet dry, and avoided the small area of blackberry.
With rebel98, exploring this part of the lake.
Thanks for the hide

It took all my will power not to skip this one as it was starting to rain pretty heavy again.
However, i grabbed the raincoat and gumboots and made a quick dash to gz, which thankfully was fairly sheltered.
Glad it was a quick find too.

Cold but sunny day. Fast find. Cache in good order, snug as a bug. TFTC (apologies for the delay in posting)
Nearby van paid us no heed. Plenty of water in nearby stream.
I was keen for this side road series of mjmnz caches, and Liv drove the car to enable me to HIHO (hop in, hop out). A fully successful trip for all searched for and a nice trip to another area of Lake Taupo never seen before.
Day 1 was getting there and catching up so left at a decent time across the Desert Road in pouring rain and wind-chill assisted chills. Managed a few finds before Liv turned up, then an easy orientation time for the first afternoon/evening.
A 3 day trip to Turangi is the plan for the weekend, but the weather is not looking likely to be all that favorable with lots of rain forecast. My youngest daughter is driving down for the weekend from Auckland to hang with Dad, so looking forward to that as I haven't seen here for a little while now. We stayed in the work's bach for the weekend and that was all good with sound amenities and a nice amount of caches were located. Also managed a soak in the Tokaanu hot pools, finished off 4 different Lab Cache series, and a couple of Geotour caches too. Thanks to all COs for their caches this weekend.

Initially when we looked at the map we thought the cache was going to be on the other side of the stream but when we looked to see if there was a bridge Maplerose spotted the tree. What a nice big tree it was, just perfect for a cache.
The lake is so calm today that you can see exactly where the stream enters it.

What a nice spot here, even on a dodgy day like today. And a good hide here. TFTC!!!
In Turangi area for two nights, out to do the caches down Kuratau Hydro Road to Whareroa on this lovely day. Thanks mjmnz for the cache.
One of a number of caches located today between Turangi and my overnight stop near Cambridge. After completing the Rainbow series this afternoon, I picked up three more caches in Whareora. This was a quick find. Put some twigs and bark over the cache because in its uncovered state it seemed all too noticeable to any passers-by! #4553. TFTC.
After a nice swim at the other side of town had to come over here to get this one. Lots of buzzing up high. Couldn't see who was the culprit. Not near the cache anyway.
We'd been driving for a while by the time we came into Whareroa and this was a good spot to let the dog out of the car too. Walked over and soon found this hide. Thanks for bringing us here mjmnz!
A nice quick find thanks.
Ms_KR and I are off on a wee tour of the North Island. A lovely sunny day as we drove from Taupo to National Park today.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

A nice stroll across the grass to GZ. Unbelievable amount of blackberry in the area. Nice quick find. TY

For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 12 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more. Today I decided to go a drive down to Kuratau from Taupo as I hadn't explored this area before.
I got caught up in the odd strand of blackberry getting to the cache.
Cheers for the cache.

What a fab spot. Ignored the cobwebs, signed the log, all in order. Huge trout in the creek. Wish I had my fly rod and a current licence.
On our way home from visiting family in the King Country and we decided to go and have a look at Whareroa - stopped for a few of these caches on the way. Walked along the beach front and found the cache just as my phone battery gave out. Spotted a trout in the stream swimming in a circular route under the trees nearby which was very cool.Tftc
We have a stream with the same name back home on the Kapiti coast. Lovely day for a few caches with little blue hen and China doll 47. Drove ot from turangi before the day became too hot and had a thoroughly enjoyable and successful cache hunt in an area we hadn't visited before. Apologies for the generic logs but thanks for giving us an excuse to visit the area. Tftcsl
Took a while with blackberries to dodge. One of quite a few while out with bkj97 and team China doll47. T4TCSL
Out with Bkj97 and Little Blue Hen caching from Turangi. Had picked the Rainbow trail as a good one to start with, then others in the Whareroa area. Found all easily stamped and returned. What a fabulous place. TFTC
Nice little area to visit with not many people around. Great tree and cache was located easily. TFTC
Find number 4651.I was about to head along the beach to this one from the event when a local stated that it was possible to drive very close. So I took that option. Parked nearby in the shade before quickly finding the cache. Fisherman in the lake at stream entrance. Thank you for the placement.
The kids and I spent the weekend in Taupo. Saturday we made our way to Turangi and then further around lake to Whareroa and then back to Taupo never been this side of the lake always good going to new places. We arrived back at the Lake Taupo holiday resort after dark and went straight to the hot pools so nice after a long day. Tftc
Like my other team mates, a beautiful place to come on this balmy autumn day, many thanks, cheers
On a road trip with part of Team BOP - we looked down here from up the hill and could see a fisherman in the water. He was still there when we got to GZ but we did not disturb him. Looked cold out there but it didn't seem to worry him. Cache all good and where it should be TFTC
On another Team BOP road trip heading to clear out some caches around Lake Taupo.
A quick find here then we watched a lonely fisherman in the lake and took a few pics of the deserted beach.
Thanks for bringing us in here.

Loving these little bays. Beautiful autumn day, wagtails playful and all is good with the world. TFTC
That tree has character and plenty of potential hiding spots. A beautiful little stream rippling past makes for a lovely setting for a cache. Thank you. Mrs Tparty went venturing forth for the discovery. TFTC
We are on our inaugural shake down trip in our newly acquired camper and we decided to head down and do a trail along Kuritau Hydro Road that Mr S had spied. We started this trail yesterday but ran out of time and options on where to overnight. So we stayed at the Oasis Camp in Tokaanu and headed back out this morning. What a magic little spot. It's a pity there is no overnight parking. Mr S was the finder once more.
Thanks mjmnz.
Thanks mjmnz.
Easy find once the muggles left, they were backed in there right next to the cache in the shade eating lunch haha thanks!
On the way home after Christmas. I took the diversion off to herre because my GPS showed a unfound solved puzzle here, but then I saw that it is actually a multi (which is why I would had marked it as solved). And now that I am here, I see there are a bunch of traditionals as well, so I may as well check them out too.
I didn't have this cache in my GPS, so I am caching by phone. It had me on the other side of the stream, which is fine, and there are some awesome trees that would be good hides, but there were not much in the way of geotrails. And them my cell says 28 metres. Groan. Back across the stream and a quick find once I was at the right place! Removed the trinket that was too big and stopping the lid from closing properly. Contents still dry though.
CO: Please mark the trackable in this cache as missing.

Just after checking in (airbnb) and some nice welcome talk with our host, I walked through the small village by the sea for finding some caches!
This one was a real good one, plus a beautiful view on the endless Taupo lake.
Thanks alot and regards from Germany!

Log full. Managed to find a spot to write sideways and small. Cache in good condition but log needs replacing. TFTC
Beautifully sunny and serene with not a muggle in sight. Great hide. Cache in pristine condition but log full. TFTC
Dropped a small geocoin here. Please look after it. Found the cache & then had a swim. Fantastic. TFTC
Visiting Grandma here in Whareroa and took her for her first cache hunt. Great hidey hole, thanks for the cache!!
Out and about this afternoon exploring a few spots where we have not cached previously. This one took quite some time to find! After unsuccessfully searching everywhere that made sense of the cache description and hint, we eventually moved on to find a couple of other caches. Then we read the latest logs and saw that the cache might be a bit smaller than we were looking for, so decided to give it one more go. On our return it still took a few minutes but then one of us said those magic words - "found it!" TFTC.
We had spent a while looking for this cache, when butchie bum arrived, and the three of us continued to search for some time, before she eventually found this sneaky hide. Our search was not helped by the cache being described as a small sistema in a camo bag, when it is actually a micro of similar size to a film canister. TFTC
Found as part of the 2016Mega in Turangi. Geocaching team INTGEO - Indiana Jill, Renelm and Rosmar.

Last full day in Turangi for the mega event visiting from Australia and it was time to go and get some caches up the west side of the lake for a bit of a numbers run. 19 finds in total for the day so not huge but still a bit of fun and great scenery.
Got to ground zero and there was a family with young kids climbing the tree. After about 10 minutes they moved on and had a fairly good look around but no dice. Tried various different angles, I know it was found yesterday I think so hopefully the kids didn't muggle it and I was just cache blind on this one today. The 2nd of 2 DNFs for the day. Thanks mjmnz.

This took 5 people 10 minutes to locate and in the end it was the person in the group with the least finds that got it. Good hide
Found at 14:52 - #6403 along with Indiana Jill, Rosmar & soStepho . signed as INTGEO(team) to save space and time

For our weekend of MEGA adventures we decided on a name of INT GEO as our team included cachers from USA, Fiji and Denmark with a couple of kiwis making up the balance. From the start we decided on quality not quantity but we wanted to include a mix of cache types to share with our newbie cacher.
We enjoyed two days out and about with good weather, great caches shared with a fun team.
As the kiwis in the team, we were constantly reminded of the amazing scenery that we simply take for granted as we were frequently shown examples of "trees dripping with colour", "lichens growing amongst the volcanic vomit", "picturesque lakeside bays" and "mountains of meringue"...... Thanks for all the COs for sharing with us a fabulous area of NZ.
We mad a meal of this one and it took us longer than it should have to locate but we got there in the end TFTC.

Team IFTBNZ spending the day dodging the rain and collecting interesting / lonely caches - this was the final one of the traditional caches in the immediate vicinity - logged at 11.51am. I expect this area will change quite a bit over the next couple of years as the sections sell.
