Omg what an ordeal to get this one. So much bushwhacking. If it wasn't so old we'd have given up. Here with bdp.Tftc
Quite the trek. Took almost 2 hours all up. Parked at the nice car park at the saddle. Admired the views and headed up the track, which quickly became overgrown. Lost the flags completely. Lots of bushwhack. The last 160m were agonizing. Stupidly decided to take the shorter route straight down. Later figured we might have been within about 30 metres of track but with the overgrowth we wouldn't have known. This cache was placed 13 days after I found my first cache! Very cool.Tftc gets a fav for being an oldie.
I've had this golden oldie on my list for ages and today had the chance to visit, arrived at the suggested parking by mid morning, the skies were very dark and threatening but I set off regardless, a light shower on the way up and I used some information and coordinates from previous logs to head to GZ, after finding the cache I headed back downhill and it took longer than expected at the rain had gotten a bit heavier and the trail was slippery in places, glad to get back to the carpark without breaking anything, a favourite point from me, thanks for placing andTFTC
TFtC SL Glad it was not raining for this hike but the track was certainly wet and slippery. The view from gz made it worth the hike up.
430p Arrived in Rocky heading South for a holiday538pm Left the carpaek area at the top of The Saddle area. Followed the Pink markers up and took the right path and spotted lookout one. Got some photos. Backtracked and could not locate any more pink marker tape do headed bush towards the final. Got to final and cache found quickly and contents in good condition. Signed the logsheet after a few scenery happy snaps. Thought about heading directly down to the road and after going Approx 20m down saw that there is a substantial drop off. Backtracked and bush bashed back out similar way as came in but a lot trickier as it is now dark and only headlamp light. After a while found a pink marker tape and followed the original trail back down to the parking bays. Thanks for a memorable walk and beautiful views along the way.
Came up to drop a little TB off, path is overgrown and had a hell of a time getting back
Drove up from Maryborough today and stopped in Rocky for this old cache, before ending up in Mackay tonight. Walked up from the saddle and the track was quite overgrown in patches and hard to follow after wet season growth but followed general direction and found cache in great condition. Left a trackable next to the log, it has an interest in mountains and views. Great views on a warm sunny afternoon, breeze sprung up on the way down.
Quite the climb in the middle of the day. Love an oldie and an ammo box! I think the descent is going to be slower than the climb. Lots of dry, slippery grass. Thanks For The Cache!(GITS Tour 2023)

What a beautiful place. Did the short but tough/steep hike after visiting Sleipner Lookout. This was the best spot - a hidden gem. Wouldn't find it without the cache. Thank you so much for showing my this place.TFTC
Omg brilliant climb with Kyms Adventure! Wow what a log book love seeing old logs from placement ️ TFTC - East Coast Trip 2023 from Darwin NT
Only 500 metres, no worries! Well, it was much harder than we'd realized, but worth it to find this oldie, with the original log book still in use. Took a photo of the FTF page- fascinating as I think maccamob are still around? We remember when all logs included a bit of a story, and for some reason this cache has continued the tradition. Maybe it's because the old logs are there to see, maybe it's an excuse to sit down before taking the return trip? We're glad we got here earlier in the day as we'd planned to come after leaving Yeppoon after 4 and it could have got dark on us.
Thanks for the historic find!

Wow, absolutely loved this one.
Well worth the scramble up the goat track that was more well defined than I expected.
The views in all directions are just stunning.
Left the Tb’s as I didn’t bring anything to swap
Have a FP from me.

Ocw the Bebes as we stay in Rocky for a few days. What a lovely walk. Lost the track towards the top for a short while but used instinct and headed for the ridge line and sure enough picked it back up. What amazing views from here. Cache in good order. Tftc
Despite paying the same taxes and rates as our metropolitan families and friends, those of us that live in regional Queensland do not have access to the same health/commercial resources/services.
Today, armed with a long list of things to do in Rockhampton (our local regional centre) we hit the town hard. At 3:00, we celebrated checking off each and every item on our list by going after the closest cache with the most likes (23).
This cache is a beauty. Perhaps best viewed in the am, we reached the GC at about 4:00pm.
View was spectacular and cache is in good condition. Two well-travelled trackables and a favourite point from the wombat

Found. Great walk up a goat track. Cache in great condition and still plenty of room in the log book. Alot of delicious smelling native passionfruit which should be ready in a couple of weeks.
We certainly didn't take the same route back down the hill - to our detriment. However, we did finally meet up with the track again and made it back to The Saddle. It took longer than we thought. Would have been nice to have had more time instead of having to rush back down for an appointment.

A nice and study walk up the trail with a bit of a view here and there, quick find easy back to the car park. TFTC
Our second oldest find so far! And what a great little hike that was rewarded with a stunning view. So pleased to see the original log book still in place and a strong big container full of swag. This cache is so worth the visit whereas we think the top of Mt Archer is rather overrated.

In the area with Selva Girls today to pick up some caches and this was one of them. SG had already done this one so remained at the cars while I ventured up the hill. A very enjoyable walk with great views along the way. Once at GZ the cache was soon in hand and once the log signed all was returned as found.
Always good to see an old logbook in a real cache container. How things have changed!
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for me and others to enjoy.

Recently gotten back from a few weeks holiday in SA, Vic and NSW.
Feeling very out of condition but interested in doing the Mount Dick summit cache.
We figured we’d do this one as a trial to see how fit we are (not quite one foot in the grave as it turns out).
Having had a busy day we don’t get up to the parking area until 4:30 pm.
The first part of the track is very easy and then slowly it gets steeper.
I have never bothered to look at this part of the mountain before while paying attention, wow it’s tall.
We make quick work of getting to the top and then wander around trying to get to GZ.
It’s not easy watching your GPS while trying not to fall down a mountain.
I finally make it, while Buttons tries to find a different path. She’s a little more adverse to walking thro grass where you can’t see what’s underneath.
Circling around the most likely target, I find nothing (how on earth does an ammo box hide so well).
Back to the GPS and I try and do some triangulation which gives me even more targets to examine. Sooo many piled up rocks in the area.
My GPS decides it doesn’t want to cooperate and every time I move, GZ moves with me.
I end up standing waist deep in long grass not sure how I got where I was when Buttons yells at me am I ok.
I’m busy explaining how a fat man can be nimble on their feet so as to not fall down steep slopes, while I am looking up at her, when suddenly something catches my eye and the penny drops (about 6 pound 2 farthings worth). I make my way back up the slope to a spot that I hadn’t been able to see before (tree for the forest kind of scenario).
Bingo, there it is.
There are some days I’m glad I’m as stubborn as I am.
The log book is huge and I write a short story in it, like the people before me have done and put everything back the way I found it.
By this time the sun is on the horizon and we beat a hasty retreat back down the path.
The sun has disappeared just as we get to the easy part and there is a small amount of light left as we make it back to the car. Whew.
All in all a fun cache, but leaving me with a little doubt about doing Mount Dick.
We’ll see.

Wow what a great spot to sit and read the original logbook. My last visit to Rocky was some 32 years ago. Pre-caching, pre-children, pre-grandchildren. I’m so happy I can still climb these hills. There was a moose TB in the cache, so I’ll move that along. Thank you for placing this one and happy 20th anniversary for last January. Things were more relaxed in 2002. It took five months for the FTF
WOW JUST WOW!! The view was unbelievable! Absolutely love this one and it was so much fun.
**This Cache:**
Holy Moly. This cache ruined me!
It was a wet day, it had been raining all day.
But I wanted this 2002 cache more than anything in Rockhampton.
Everyone knows what the bush is like in the wet though, the grass and plants just hold the water and one small brush past them and you get soaked.
Well, this entire walk was on a small, overgrown trail, impossible to follow without walking through grass/bush. My shoes and socks got completely drenched to the core, to the point where I couldn't wear them for 2 days afterwards because they needed to dry out. It was a tough expense to take, but so worth it for this find!
The walk wasn't hard despite the wet, but it wasn't short either. Luckily I had done my research and knew to take an unmarked trail from the saddle, if I came unprepared I probably would have attempted to take the shortest route but this would of been impossible in these conditions! Luckily I found the trail without issues, and was able to follow it the entire time. Only a couple times I had to stop and consider which way was the correct way.
I would say it was approximately 600m each way with the winding track, so 1.2km return. It's also just over 100m of elevation change.
Finding the cache was a huge relief, and then a huge excitement to see it was actually the original cache and original logbook. I get very excited to read such old logs, and was amazed that maccamob were the FTF all the way from Melbourne! And yes, they drove! And yes, it went unfound for 7 months after listing before their attempt! Incredible story, I'll have to mention it to them next time I see them!
Thanks for this cache, FAVOURITE point indeed, this is a TRUE Australian classic, it's rare to see original logbooks these days!

**Today:**
Day 18 of my road trip, now heading back to Canberra from the Townsville Mega Event!
Today I drove between Mackay - Theodore, it rained the ENTIRE day, but I still cached my way along the route.
I actually ran into tronador from Sydney today, which was a pretty huge coincidence now that it was well after the mega and we were no longer in Townsville! We found each other at one Earthcache, and then both headed to the same Earthcache next, which was at a cave system! This was extremely lucky as neither of us would have explored this cave alone, but now that we had a friend we entered the cave and had a bit of a look around feeling safer with the situation!
Luckily the rain radar was completely clear from 6pm, so I was able to camp out in Theodore without getting wet! Wooooo! I delayed setting up my swag until it stopped completely, and it didn't rain again, gosh I was lucky! Had a pleasant night!
Thanks to all the CO's

Day 4 of our road trip to the Townsville mega.
This cache was one of the first to go on the list when planning, we came through Rocky in 2020 and didn’t have time for the walk so I was keen to get this oldie today.
It was a steep, hot climb and the track is overgrown in parts, which meant we lost it once or twice, but we found it quickly again.
We found the geotrail that led straight to GZ and soon found the cache. Awesome to see the original logbook still in play, very happy to add ours to it.
Some great views up here, really worth the hike, even JDavs liked it! Tftc

Day 2 of our road trip to Townville to attend the MEGA as Tour de Ville (TMZ59, Imbunda, Peppa and I) and our must do list got thrown out the window an hour or two into the drive.
This WAS a must do for Peppa so we made our way up to Mt Archer and checked out the starting point of entry. Doable for some of our crew (the non dodgy knee people) so after a quick lunch at the lookout, we made our way to this cache.
The track was okay but disappeared in places. Managed to keep Peppa focused on getting to GZ instead of running back to the car (he hates heights) and were rewarded with this oldie. SL then returned as found.
What a great view even if cloudy with the chance of showers.

Heading north to Townsville for the MEGA with Peppa, TMZ59 and Patrol14 on day 2 of our trip we had this one ear marked to do.
It was an interesting trip up Mt Archer as I thought Peppa was going to either end up in my lap or claw me to death.
It was a great find getting such an oldie today, signed the log and replaced as found.
We also had a picnic lunch at the top and took in all the views before heading down the hill. TFTC

Day 2 of the Tour De Ville and we’re on the road heading North…
Again with TMZ59 at the wheel of the Habanero Sport, Patrol14 up the front, and Imbunda and I in the back fighting over the arm rest…
We have a list of caches, that I spent at least two hours creating, to collect on the way up… the list lasted exactly one cache yesterday before we were getting “other” caches…
This cache was my only “must have” for the entire three day trip north… that placed month is now a one of kind in Queensland…
On the road up to the top of Mt Archer, where thanks to the steep death inducing drop off I tried to crawl into Imbundas lap. After enjoying a damp lunch on the top of Mt Archer we returned to the saddle…
There’s not much that I can write that hasn’t or won’t be written about the trip here….
Tftc… log signed as Tour de Ville - TIPP

An 8 day roadtrip to Townsville and back to Brisbane in the Fangsoki Pajero with the usual cast of cachers.
This one was a definite one on my "TO DO " list for the trip. The others had all found it previously but they came back for another visit to keep me company. The track was a bit faint in places and we were surprised to find that we were the second group to visit today.

Day 2 of our Mega Roadtrip. This was the main target for today. We had this on the list for a trip to Airlie Beach back in 2016 but the road was closed due to a land slip…that was extremely disappointing! I had concerns about finding the correct place to park but there was certainly no doubt we had found the right spot. A big sign stating “The Saddle” and ample marked car parking gives it away. A beautifully cool 22 degrees when we arrived at 9am. Decked out in rain gear due to the light drizzle we set off up the goat track. Long pants and sleeves definitely make this walk more comfortable with all the spikey plants and grass at times over our heads. Such a good feeling to finally see the view that everyone else has posted photos of. Despite our wringing wet socks and saturated shoes (that we now have to pack somewhere to dry later) I’m so glad it wasn’t a stinking hot morning. Such a fun walk. A fave pt for sure. TFTC
On our first morning in Rockhampton we decided to make a beeline for this old one. It was a hot start to the day already, and we were able to park our car very close to the goat Trail.
The Trail was visible most of the way to the top, however every now and then we lost sight of it and pushed forward until it reappeared.
It was a steep up and a steep down.
At GZ, the carefully placed hide meant we could sit on some rocks and gather our breath while we signed the log. The views and the breeze were most welcome.
Thanks dooghan for this hide.
We enjoyed the adventure.

To be honest I had a shocking day once I started on the road involving a bit of a detour but managed to make it here by dumb luck I guess. Arrived going on 18:00 but still thought there was plenty of daylight to traverse up from the saddle. The track up is fairly well defined as you meander through the cycads and Xanthorrhoea although the grass is trying to take over in places. Views on the way up and at the GZ are fantastic. Well worth visiting this golden oldie. Thanks Dooghan
Day 3, Green Geckos and Muggle65 and I were heading home today. We had a few caches to grab. We found 10 today. The breakdown was 4 traditional 3 mystery 2 multi and a earthcache. I needed this oldie.
We had a good day caching.
Sorry for the generic log.

After a discussion on the best plan of attack to claim this cache we found the goat track up along the shoulder. I was a wee bit wasted as yesterday was a big day in Yeppoon and with this one being the first on our way home it took a bit to get motivated but the views & the find was
Muggle65, Brislions and I have spent a very fun weekend in Yeppoon. We have officially started our drive back to Brissie and this was our first leg stretch stop. We found a very convenient car park right at the start of the track and made the short trip to GZ. The views were fabulous! Thank you so much for bringing us to this awesome spot
I parked the geomobile in one of the nice new parking spots and then made my way up the goat track, huffing and puffing and stopping from time to time to take in the lovely views and to take a sip of my water. (I really do need to improve my fitness!) Then it was time to leave the track. Wary of what might be lurking in the long grass, I stomped my way to GZ. There, the cache was quickly located and the log signed. TFTC
So ,I was not planning on doing any Geocache today so wrong shoes, no water, got about half way and thought too hot, too hard but I am half way so kept going. Found cache quickly and and rushed back down and home for an Ice cold beer. TFTC
Found a nice sized container to drop off 4 TBs on a race! Great hike and great view!! TFTC found with graceygirl1234

Fangsoki and I set off from Brisbane at 2am to begin our adventures. However to maximise on our Far North Queensland road trip, today was more about distance than caches. However there are just some caches you can’t go past. And the old ones are definitely ones of such type.
Fangsoki, who has previously found this cache, parked the car, and I made my way up in the heat of the day, extremely aware of what might cross my path.
Luckily there was no sign of any such creature today, however I did decide to grab a nice long stick when it was finally time to head of the track and in through the long grass to GZ. The cache was found easily in the likely spot, and a smallish huntsman scrambled away as I removed a little of the covering. A quick photo taken of me up top, which I sent through to the kids at work who are tracking my holiday, then, with helpful stick in hand, I made my way back down to the car and the awaiting Fangsoki.
Thanks for the cache Dooghan.
Second of the oldest 100 for the day.
Caught the end of the sunset from the main lookout.
Dark when I parked at the start of the path.
Headtorch on and up I went.
A faint path, good enough to be easy to follow in the dark.
Finding the cache was easy, great to see that the original logbook is still going strong
Thank you for hiding this geocache Dooghan

We are currently travelling along Queensland‘s coast on a short vacation. Of course some target caches were also on the list of must do’s along the way and this was one of them. Thank you very much for placing this geocache.
It is always great to find a very old cache and no surprise it survived that long out here. Being limited in time, I was determined to make this a quick one, and having done a few trail runs before this wasn’t too big of a problem after all. I parked at The Saddle at S 023° 20.923' E 150° 35.080' and followed the trail up the mountain. It led all the way to within 30m of the cache with the first half being moderately steep. I then left the trail from S 023° 21.167' E 150° 34.922' and ventured through the high grass down to the cache in the typical spot. All that was completed within 15min. A quick signature, a check for trackables, which unfortunately were not there despite the cache page saying so, and then down again. All in all it took me 25min for the round trip. Pretty nice. A fav point for this great morning run on a cool morning and this amazing old cache. Gaters and shoes with spikes definitely help out a lot for this cache though as the high grass may covers snakes and can be quite slippery

Friday. Wow! On our trip to FNQ, I had picked out a few really choice caches to grab along the way - why fly when you can drive and cache! It was getting dusk as we parked the geomobile and after taking some time admiring the views, I had to hurry up Mr SP. I grabbed a torch and a jumper as it was actually quite cool. I knew by looking at the walk ahead that I wouldn’t need that coat soon enough. We tripped a couple of times and slipped, but found GZ without too much fuss and what a great path! It was night just as we left. I took some pics of the log book for Oz_bean_counter as she collects these sorts of things. Awarding a FP for the age of this one; the excellent condition of both the cache container and log book and for the absolutely amazing views of the area from dusk to night with all the stars and city night lights!
This was the 7th of 7 caches found on this outing.
Thanks ***Dooghan*** for showing us this place

Wow, this was quite a journey. Arriving just before 4.00 I figured I'd have enough time to get up and back, but I'd have to make it super quick. I am fine going up, and kept thinking to myself I am not so fine going down, but that was something to worry about later.
After a steep and often slippery climb up I quickly found the treasure, I think this is one of my favourite ammo tins, I was so out of breath and very happy to see it.
Ok, time to get down. The path I sometimes used to get up was nowhere to be seen for quite some time, so I made my own way down. I fell down I don't know how many times, one time my left hand fully landed in a prickly pear . I was very happy to see my car in the car park below. I then found the track I needed to get me to the bottom without too much more trouble. Happy days!
Thanks Dooghan for the adventure and for keeping the cache going.

We had our eye on this oldie ever since we decided to come back to Rockhampton to visit mates and family here. After a brief bit of confusion when we parked at the wrong location and couldn't locate any walking tracks , we soon found ourselves at the saddle and setting off on this rather steep climb. I'm not sure if the track comes around any closer to GZ as once we were reasonably close, we went off piste, so to speak, and headed directly to where we wanted to be.
This will fill a gap in our Ausmer chart! Thanks, Dooghan, for keeping this one alive
Thanks for find #2098

Very steep climb, don’t do it unless fit and used to hiking. Also consider the weather.

Got ya! MANY times I’ve driven past Rockhampton and not been able to stop and visit this location. Today was different. Thanks for the cache and to those who have helped maintain.

After a failed attempt on this guy earlier in the year i am back with support. DarkRntity anf i hit this guy up and after a battle with the overgrown track we discovered the gache pretty quickly. Views are amazing
I finally had an early finish at work so I could try for this cache. Started off well but lost the track at the top so wandered around just aiming for GZ and was finally rewarded with a great container. Took in the views then followed the wrong track completely on my first attempt back down (oops) but retraced and managed to get back on the right one and back to the road safely. Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache
Day two of my road trip from the Gold Coast to Townsville. An early start today for our team which consisted of RoddyC, hatzofff, grannysmith1947 and youngoldfella. After completing the 'Moo' geoart we ventured into town to do some local caches. This was on top of our to do list and what an enjoyable walk this was with such amazing views. Lovely to see the original logbook still in the container as well. Dropped off two TB's to continue on with their goals.

Out and about with 4 geocaching friends going from Childers to Mackay. I will leave them at Mackay on the 5th December. They will go North and I will go South only to come back up to Rockhampton in 7 days time to meet up with them again. Did not take long to find this one. Many thanks. TFTC
Day 2 of our northern adventures with RoddyC, Snickersallan, GrannySmith 1947 & YOF out doing some caches in Mornish and then back to Rockhampton.
After lunch we ventured out for some target caches.
Nice find to add to our oldies.

A lovely spot to look out over the city. Found this cache with ECR97, we were worried that it might have been lost to the grass, but after a look around some more permanent pieces of scenery we found it.

I have a project to collate photos of original logs for some of Queensland's oldest geocaches. This is one of them! Many thanks to Beardman for providing these images. Can't wait to find the cache.
I had been eyeing off this cache for years; the hidden date being quite unique and potentially filling a hidden month on my stats matrix. A roadtrip up north from brisbane with my geodaughter finally gave me the opportunity to come and visit, and today was the day. We left the motel early and headed toward Mt Archer, parking in the new carpark right near the trail up to the cache. We both set off up the track, but after 100m the geodaughter decided it was a bit much nature for her and opted to go back to the aircon in the car I continued on alone; getting up close and personal with a few spiders as I collected their nearly invisible webs across the trail and enjoying the breeze and the views. A bit of huffing and puffing but I was soon close to gz and following a goat track to a likely spot. I saw the cache from above and climbed down, at last able to add my name to the log. A few pics of the view and myself with the cache and then I returned it to the hide. As I walked around the other side I spotted some eggs back in the rocks which looked about the right size for snake eggs; it's definitely the right time of year for this so future finders please beware. I made my way back down the trail, eventually spotting the car parked in the carpark down below. I rang the geodaughter and nagged her to get out of the car and take a photo of me up on the hill A short time later I was back in the car with her and heading back toward Rocky for a cold drink. Thankyou for the cache and the experience Dooghan, take a FP from me for this long awaited find.
Some nights it’s harder to get out of bed and down to the watch house than others. It seems like the more I do the more there is to get done. Some nights you get close to thinking you’ve made it. Like ‘it’ is a tangible thing. Something that is just at the top of the next hill and you may be within 200 metres but the legs just won’t keep proceeding. Then some wizard with a scraggly beard comes down the hill at you screaming about things from the dungeon dimensions and that’s when you decide you are close but bugger that for a game of conkers.
After brekky in town, we headed up here to find this oldie. The walk up the ridge was beautiful. Cool morning air and views for days. Amazing spot. Thanks for the cache
What a great walk! It is a bit steep and loads of spiders but worth the effort. I was amazed when I found out it had been there so long. TFTF. 5 started and 3 finished.
Nice walk and great views.

A nice little walk up the hill with Dora the Explorer! Found easily enough once at GZ. Great views from up here. Thanks for the cache.
It is great to find these older caches.

This was an epic trek. The track was indistinguishable in a few spots but we managed to wade our was through the grasses to get to GZ. We drank our water on the way but found a bottle of water in the cache. So we drank some of that. Maybe then next finder can replenish the supply. I put this a bit harder than a T3. Left a TB and took a pic of me half way up.
Caching in and around the area, we picked up a few caches and this was one of them.
After parking at the saddle I walked up the hard to follow track and made an easy find at GZ. Cache and contents were in good condition. Great views were had from here.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

I was in the area so wanted to try to find this cache. Unfortunately, due to Cyclone Debbie, there is no public access to Pilbeam Drive until end of May. I’ll be back..
Found this one early this morning! Ive never noticed this trail so enjoyed the adventure. We completely lost the trail on the way back down, managed to head back towards the geocache and get my bearings again though. Awesome view at the top! Thanks!
We decided to hit this cache early in the morning , laced up our walking shoes , grab the pack and plenty of water.
The track is in good order from the car parking area , but slowly gets less and less the further up you head . Make sure you have your wits about you in working the track
GZ was a reward in itself once we caught our breath .... all good with the cache and hide
We signed the log and left a TB for future travels ...
A fantastic view over Rocky and a rewarding experience TFTC ️

We sure earnt our smilie on this one.
We'd been sitting in the car for a few hours travelling homewards (south) when we felt like a 'decent walk' to stretch the legs. Must be careful what we wish for.
We drove to what looked a 'good spot' to start our climb.
In hindsight we should've driven a bit further up the road and round the bend to the next carparking area. However we didn't, and we started our climb from there. Phew! 'Only a 3 Terrain?' we wondered as we sat with the cache at GZ. Had a read of some old logs and then wrote our own before making our way a bit further to the top. Wow! The views are so worth the climb. Then while wandering around up on top we came across a track. No way!! That's cheating! Well we followed it all the way back down - a mere walk in the park after our earlier effort
Thanks for the cache Dooghan. Cache and contents are in great nick. Fav Point from us for the great experience.

What a walk. If we'd realised it was that vertical we might not have bothered. Amazing views from the top in all directions made it well worth it. Took a bit to find as GPS was confused but reading previous finders' comments lead us to the cache. TFTC
Thank you Dooghan for the cache. Been meaning to find this one for about 5 years, but its always been one of those that needed a little more effort. As it turned out, we had it and were back at the car in just 40 minutes. It was not as complicated as I perceived.
I went in front, with my son at the rear and despite this I managed to collect no spiders... quite proud of myself.
Really appreciate the cache, the enjoyable hot summer walk, but with lovely breeze, and the awesdom view and log book at the end.

Up to Rocky for a couple days of work, so arrived a couple days early to check out the sights. Of course this sight was high on the list being one of the oldest still active caches in QLD - a must-see on my list. Not so much for Mrs Prime though, so the plan was reached that I'd head out this way early in the morning, and return back for breakfast later. So revved the miniscule hire car up the hill, dodging dog walkers and early joggers - and found a decent car park just past where I wanted to be on the road.
And lo, before me there be a path, or a track of sorts, heading where I want to head. That's handy (ok, ok, I'd been told it would be here beforehand, I'm not totally making this up as I go along, I do plan occasionally). Right. Seven steps along the track and I all but head butted my first egg-sized spider of the day. Rightio then. Massive web, big mumma. Back two steps and I find a nice sized and shaped web-killing stick. And another one I could use as a defensive club when web-spinner comes at me. Two shots and web and occupant are some distance away.
Seven steps along and there is another massive web, and occupant, although this one is looking decidedly annoyed at my earlier antics. Same result. I have the swing of it now. It's about 500 odd metres to GZ, I cover about 5m in seven steps. I played baseball with some hundred plus of these monsters. Therapeutic.
Good work out. And somewhat a distraction from the steady uphill climb.
As is usual for this bush crashing monster - no snakes were spotted. They are clever enough to get out of dodge.
I am somewhat wet though as the dew is heavy, the grass not short, and many bushes around and over the track. All good. Not much of a view, really, as I went along, so I could concentrate on my arachnophobia without fear of distraction.
Until I crested the final summit - and views of Rocky started to appear before me. Wow - a pretty town from this angle. Sun behind me just coming up. Lovely. I guess that's why the cache is here - views of Rocky. And Rocks ... to um ... well ... view. One set of such rocks stood out to me, and viola - a cache was unearthed (surprisingly free of multi-legged guardians). Beauty!
A few moments to scan the ORIGINAL logbook (impressive), spied that the last finders were in fact muggles (maybe they've joined up now?), and added my entry as well. Sat and watched the view, listening to (mostly) silence for a while before heading back down. A quick drive to the summit then (views are way less interesting up top), and then breakfast.
Thanks for placing this cache, Dooghan. Found in good condition. A FP for this lovely experience.

A geocaching roadtrip is an amazing thing. It takes lots of preparing, planning and pre puzzling to ensure time on the road is maximised. I have to say I exhibited none of these attributes as we readied ourselved for this roadtrip. I was fortunately joined by the energizer bunny (seffnjarah) and the Square Jawed Mountain Man (Crookedpete) who both like to prove how capable they are as the alpha males of the Bromance. While there is often much chest beating and tantrums, we manage to remain positive and end up with a good plan of attack.
We set off on Friday lunch time (so CP had time to make himself pretty) and returned late Sunday nigh, traveling some 2000klms, approx 70 caches of varying D/T Ratings, in just on 54 hours. Sadly there were a few DNF's (which some of the team took harder than others), but we saw many different cache styes, and some amazing places. Thanks to all the CO's who placed these caches for us to find.
Well THIS IS A CACHE! Finally Rocky has delivered! We love a good climb, and after so long stuck in the car we were grateful for it!
We were racing the sunset, so headed up at pace. The track was clear, and obvious. We made it up as the sun was heading close to the horizon. BEAUTIFUL. An old QLD cache to boot! No time to linger long (sadly), as I wanted to get down with good light. As was to be proven a few short hours later I can be somewhat unsteady on my feet, often resulting in visits to the local medical services!
Fave Pt from me!

It has been far too long since Seffnjarah, Swellerfungus and I did stupid things on a roadtrip a long way from home. So, a caching road trip from Brisbane to Rocky & Yeppoon and a few ports (and mountains) in between was planned. The well planned though overly optimistic caching itinerary included miscellaneous mind bending puzzles, half a dozen or so of Queensland's Oldest caches a few wee hill climbs, a healthy selection of unloved caches and any other interesting caches in between.
This oldie was a "must do" on our road trip list. And it didn't disappoint. After a long, *long* frustrating string of urban DNF's in Rocky during the day, we were questioning what we were doing here. We finally got to free our legs with a sharp hill climb to a magnificent view point and a well maintained, large container.
We arrived just on sunset and took in the view for a few minutes. Swellerfungus, well known for falling over when hiking rough trails and easily the clumsiest of us, was keen to get back down the track in daylight. I would have liked to stay a while longer personally.
Thanks for restoring our faith in caching, Dooghan. Have a favourite point.

It's been 2 years since the Bromance undertook a geocaching road trip, the last being down to Gloucester NSW back in March 2015. With the blessings of our respective spouses received (mine seemed rather keen to get rid of me for the weekend) we headed off from Brisbane Friday lunchtime for a whirlwind trip to Yeppoon and back with a lengthy target list of caches including oldies like this one. After finally finishing our first day of caching and setting up camp at 1.30am this morning, a 5.30am wake up call had us packed up and on the road again for more caches. After a challenging day showing us all the worst features of urban geocaching it was a great relief to finally be back out in nature. This was probably the best cache of the trip with a nice walk up the hill and fantastic views all around just as the sun was setting below the horizon. The lush new greenery overcoming the blackened remains of a recent fire were a pleasant contrast. No problems finding the cache and signed off another golden oldie for our collection. It was the a race back to the car to make it back before darkness fell. TFTC
Rocky View - you haunt my "wants" no more...
I've had my eye on this cache for quite a few years - particularly since it is the 6th oldest geocache in Queensland. I do love my old geocaches.
Gaz'n'Kab, Captain Terror, Crew 153, and I were up here in Rockhampton in August 2016. Only Gaz'n'Kab were keen enough to make the perilous effort of getting to this cache. In hindsight, I am very glad I didn't try back then...
Rumour had it the road was open. I motored in. Roadworks. Roadworks?! I thought they were all done 700m from the cache and I am driving up to more roadworks. Oh just kill me now But, it seems fate was smiling down on me. The nominated starting area given by the cache owner was devoid of works.
So for some stupid reason, I thought this cache was like at a proper lookout. Oh no, Fangsoki. Life aint that easy. Thankfully, I was prepared for hikes up hills - and it was just as well. I set off and started the trot up the hill.
One thing I never miss about Rockhampton is its heat. And it was delivering it well today. But thankfully there was a breeze offsetting it somewhat. I slowly plodded up the hill following the path. It was obvious the path had not been used in a while as it was quite overgrown.
I finally sweated myself to the top of the first part of the mountain and decided to take a waypoint - as the path was nigh invisible. Still about 250-300m to go. I kept plodding slowly up. Thankfully it was not as steep as the first part. I took another waypoint as I started travelling along the ridgeline. I put the GPSr in my pocket. I figured I would get there when I was at the top of this mountain.
I finally got to the top and took out my GPSr for a reading - the cache was 40m away. I picked my way carefully through the grasses towards a likely area. After a bit of a look here, there, and everywhere, I soon found the cache safely stowed by Gaz 6 months before me.
The views from near GZ are fantastic - and I took a breather to take them in.
I opened the cache and signed the log. I am happy to report the cache is in good condition. I re-hid it and then started on my journey back down. Sure enough, it was a lot easier going down but my poor sense of balance stopped me getting any good speed up. The breeze picked up thankfully. I did end up using my way points as the path just disappears a great deal of the time. I was a very happy Fangsoki to get back to the car.
Well that was an adventure. But more importantly, I got myself the cache. This one makes an excellent mini milestone of 7300 finds for me. An excellent cache to do - a bit challenging physically but well worth the effort. TFTC Dooghan. Thanks for keeping this cache alive for so long
I've had my eye on this cache for quite a few years - particularly since it is the 6th oldest geocache in Queensland.

We set off to Rockhampton for the weekend along with Crew 153, Fangsoki and Captain Terror and this one was next up on the list for us today. Sometimes it isn't what you know, but who you know... Today we were lucky enough to be escorted up the mountain and of course we had to make the detour to grab this cache! We set off from the carpark along the trail which has not seen much love recently, and enjoyed the walk up to the lookout before heading off to find the cache A quick search and this one was spotted safely tucked away since November 2015! We enjoyed the smell of 2015 air, before adding our name to the logbook, and making it back down the hill safely This cache was a great adventure, and worthy of a fav point for sure [^]
