Spring Victorian Incursion 2024.Day Fourteen: Mostly outer South EastWeather: a perfect start to the day.One of three more Jack Speak caches found today after starting the series yesterday. Its hard going with heavy traffic on the road and few safe places to pull out. The position of the bonus cache seems to encourage you to do the caches west to east, but the actual positioning of the caches often seems to assume that youre heading the other way. Im not going to get this series finished on this trip, but thanks for this huge body of work -lisette- and pimpmyballoons.
Hmm, we did find this after a bit of a search. The clue was confusing but got there in the end. TFTC.
Solved these some time ago and stopped to grab a few on our way past today. This one was a Quick little find.TFTC
Spending the weekend down the peninsula to get this series ticked off and collect other caches at the same time. Solved these over the last couple of days ready to start finding them!1/28 down, at night with a few bugs crawling around. TFTC.
Finally found a Jack Speak cache, I was wondering if today was going to be a complete disaster well it was a bit but not totally.
Yesterday at a shop in Red Hill we bought a bag of mandarins for $2.50 which seemed an outrageously cheap price. We thought they were busted until we opened the packet this morning and they were the juiciest things anyone has had since we were all breast fed.
Apart from looking amazing these bits of fruit were on point. We only have two days left of our holiday and 20 mandarins to get though. I hope they don’t have a laxative effect. tftc

Thanks for a great series and giving back to our game for all to enjoy.

Had most of these solved for a while, and the remaining few solved in the car this morning. A quick find today. Hoping to finish picking up the rest of the series.
We were heading over to Phillip Island to ensure we were there for the start of the Great Victoria Cache Crawl. We caught the ferry from Queenscliff and had laid ourselves a cache trail to follow around to Phillip Island.
The weather was great for caching as the sun was out and the wind was merely a gentle breeze.
We have had the Jack Speak series solved for quite some time and today we had the time to find quite a few of them. We suspect they were designed to be found heading in the Southward direction, but we were able to find a safe park for all of them as we headed roughly Northward.
We found the cache safe and sound, Thank you -Lisette- for this cache and to pimpmyballoons for adopting and maintaining this series.

Out again with LittleBoss2 for an afternoon's caching. Thanks for another in this series, missed this one when I did the rest years ago
Found with Bogonghazy who has previously solved them. Cold day but always time to cache. Thanks for placing the geocache
TFTC- started the jack speak series today, worked out a few months ago but hadn’t had the chance to start.
Find # 10871
Found with sharkiefan.
The task for today was to tackle the Jack Speak series and a few around the area.
Despite the morning drizzle we still managed to make the Jack Speak finds along the road. Even with a DNF we still managed to work out the final.
Then when the rain passed and the sun was out we done more exploring and finding quite a few "Welcome to..." cache at each town we passed coming back up.
Throwen in was a couple other puzzles we had solved.
A fun day had over on the Mornington Peninsula with a total of 45 smileys for the trip.

Jack Speak Day.
We had planned this trip a while ago and had the puzzles solved even longer ago.
Depsite the wet weather and gloomy looking day, we decided to head out and have a crack, prepared to give it up if it became too miserable.
Pleasantly we ended up with some beautiful if not windy weather and had a great time out this end of the state.

It's the 12th of the month and time to go caching... Why? Because I have (foolishly) taken on **400 Challenge....with a twist** which requires you to find 400 caches on your choice of a particular day of the month... and the 12th is my choice as that day had a big head start over all the others. My plan for the day was to finish the **Jack Speak** series and so here I was on the Mornington Peninsula.
After a successful start on this series this morning... and lunch out of the way, I was back at it... find number five in the series for the day... a nice easy find.
Thanks **pimpmyballoons** for keeping this cache and the whole **Jack Speak** series going.

Having camped overnight on the foreshore it was off to Bunyip today, via a few DNF redemptions and a some high value hides.
Redeeming another DNF on this trail now that the cache has been replaced. Thanks for the maintenance. The native inhabitants are slowly burying this further!
Thanks pimpmyballoons for placing this gamepiece in the wild for us to find.

We solved these puzzles some time ago and finally managed to find time to come down to this area to find the caches. Apologies for some generic logs. Most of these caches were found reasonably quickly. Thanks to -Lisette-/pimpmyballoons for the cache.
I did find the cache, unfortunately I could not retrieve it from its home in the stump hollow as there isn’t enough room around it to get my hand in there and fingers can’t get a grip on it. Hence, I did not sign it nor could I collect any possible clue that may be inside. Very much a nuisance but these things do happen.
The last one I needed in the series besides Avast glad this has been replaced

Cache Replaced September 2021 - Thanks to OSHFAM for helping report maintenance required and replacing log book with temporary log until I could get out there to replace it.
Found cache but could not open the bison. Left new log book and put it all in a bag. Needs attention.
After Lockdown 5.0, much needed caching was needed and what better way to do it by going out with my caching buddy Jetsons23. We had solved the Jack Speak series a year ago and it has taken us this long to finally find the time to go out and collect them. With the kids at school, we set off for our adventure. The sun even came out for us.
We didn't have much hope when we arrived here after seeing the 3 previous DNF's. But Jetsons23 found it in no time. We were so happy to find it but our joy was short lived as the bison lid had fused shut to its body (rust) and no matter how hard we tried, it could not be opened. I didn't have a spare bison with me but I did have a spare logbook and plastic bag, so we bundled everything up together into the bag and put the cache bag into its hidey hole. It's easy to dismiss the hide here assuming you are looking for a stand alone stump. But stumps are also part of the standing healthy tree.
This one will need a visit from the CO for replacement. We put in a logbook just as a temporary replacement measure until the CO can visit.
Thank you for the cache and series Lisette and pimpmyballoons for adopting it to keep it going

This geocacher reported that the container is damaged.
The bison is fused shut due to rust/weathering resulting in the inability to open the cache to access the logbook. A new replacement bison is required.

The only stump near this gz has been ripped up. I wonder if it is still around considering this is the third DNF in a row…
Jack Speak - Brass Monkey was transferred from -Lisette- to user pimpmyballoons
Searched everywhere but was unable to come up with the goods today.
Looked in all the nearby locations mentioned in logs but no sign of this one.

Why am I surprised? Accurate co-ords help! Not sure all this naval lingo will help me in the mountains, but this series was a confidence booster to puzzle solving capacity which is close to very average. Really enjoyed the research and the big ticks. Nice day out before the BIG winter LOW looms in on us. No brass monkey weather today. TFTC
Glad I read the recent logs prior to heading to the GZ, that made it’s new location a quick find.
Glad to grab the souvenir for today! This will also mean it won’t take 4 more years to start/finish the jamar challenge.

Another Mornington Peninsula caching run today to pick up the first half of the Jack Speak series and then a few other odd caches here and there towards the end.
I'd solved the puzzles about a month ago, finally taking a closer look and realising they weren't as scary as they seemed, progressing through the series in spare time over about two days - nice and relaxing puzzles to solve that I enjoyed sitting and working out.
Overcast weather today with the occasional drizzle and lots of adventuring resulted in me becoming rather damp, streaked with mud and bitten by mozzies by our return home!
Thanks to -Lisette- for placing this series and maintaining it through the years.
This one posed some obvious problems in the form of a lack of an unbroken stump.
We tried examining the pieces, but it was a previous finder's log that righted our aimless meandering with correct instructions towards the current location of the cache.
Found it safe and sound, but the cache page or location may need updating to reflect the present status of the container.
Thanks for placing this here.

Good parking spot here. Worried about previous DNF but I found quickly. Good spot.
Stump looks to have been destroyed. Maybe the cache is there but no finding I. The failing light
Out with my geo son today doing our first geo trail together. We had finished interesting puzzles learning about all the navel terms a while ago and was just waiting for a full day to pick them up. Great day starting with the sun just rising and finishing off as it was setting, Discovering this area was an added bonus. Picked up this along the way. Thanks for the series Lisette we really enjoyed our bison day.
Out Caching with XAMBO4U for a Mother Son adventure day. Time to knock out this series!
Grabbed a couple more of the Jack Speak series between showers.. this one was a DNF last i me as the hiding place was no more but the cache had been carefully hidden close by .. thank you Lisette .. I appreciate all the work you have done to place and maintain the series.
#15958. Heading to Portsea for a few days but detouring down the left side of the Peninsula so I can gather up the Jack Speak Series that I have wanted to do for so long. Also picked up a couple of "Welcome To" caches along the way. Two DNFs and a lot of caches without clues did not help me to get the final - which will have to wait for another visit, maybe!
The stump has disintegrated into several rotten pieces and the cache has been hidden by a previous finder low down in the nearby tree - a much more sensible hide now.
Thanks -Lisette-

It was leafotwind's idea to see if we could knock off the Jack Speak series (which he'd done the virtual hard yards on), and maybe turn the outing into a 50+ day. I provided the vehicle as he's, er, between cars at the moment, and despite the weather not quite cooperating, we achieved our goal, and some.
Only one DNF, which is pretty darn good considering my usual blindness to one particular kind of hide which happened to predominate this afternoon.
-Lisette-, thanks for a fun trail of caches.

I had solved the series some time ago and had always intended to try and combine it with a couple of the shorter series' put out by other cachers to achieve a tally of 50 for the day. I thought some company might be in order both to add to the fun as well as provide a separate set of eyes. Nirgalagrin answered the call and a good thing too! He dialled in a little earlier than I and a number of those bisons might have taken a lot longer without him!
We did end up hitting 50 for the day and amongst those found the only 5/1 trad in the whole of Victoria by happenstance!
Thanks to all the COs who placed these caches for everyone to enjoy and indeed in the case of the Jack Speak series have maintained them for all these years.

I was staying in Balnarring this time last year and discovered this series. Here again this year and am on a mission to try and finish it. This one i found quite quickly unlike others in the series. Tftc
Crustyvarmint and I decided to attempt this series after completing the puzzles but after doing about 10 of them we thought it might be advisable to go back to the ones we had already completed to check for clues. Oh well a newbie mistake I know but I was having a bad day.
Saying that most of these caches were reasonably easy to find (some more difficult) but well set up puzzles, a joy to complete and informative. Great series. TFTC.

I went out today with Bunadoorian. We had each solved the puzzles to locate GZ, then shared the hunt. It was an enjoyable trip and we gathered the information for the final, but somehow it didn't work. More time required to complete the task. Thanks very much for the series Lisette. Please accept the generic response for our finds today.
Thanks -Lisette- for the series. Very much enjoying the hunt and solving the puzzles. Cache found and log signed. All in good order.
After the hectic festive season, I needed a day to escape from my busy life and do this series with beckNmonts. I really enjoyed exploring this area. -Lisette- Thanks you so much for the fun series.
Pwala and I decided it was about time we found these caches. We had solved the puzzles about a month ago, but today was the day we were both finally free. I was skipper for the day and Pwala the main finder. We managed to only have one DNF for the series, and had a great afternoon! Thanks so much for placing this series -Lisette-
Eventually found it.
It was buried deep in loose tree rot.
We replaced it suspended on a twig to keep it aloft of being lost forever!

Away for the weekend catching up with son, in the Navy. After solving this a few months ago, once we knew we would be in the area, it was just a matter of making the find. We only had a few minutes to stop off and grab this and it was also starting to rain, so pleased it was a quick find in the obvious place.
Thanks -Lisette- for placing the cache for us to find.

An easy suspect, or so I thought! I looked in there but seeing nothing I moved on to another location. A fruitless search and I returned, a quick flick of the debris and the cache revealed itself.
Easy find even without the clue this cache was found fairly quickly by choosing a likely spot and searching there.
Parked right in front and had it signed and back again in minutes although I was getting a few strange looks from a muggle dog walker across the road but I doubt she was overly interested in what I was doing, the magpie nearby seemed pretty interested though!
After spending yesterday doing domestic chores around home, we sat and worked together to solve this series after dinner.
With +Wife doing the first part and me finishing each one off, it only took until 2am!
This afternoon we drove down here with our GeoMutts, EveTheStaffy and MaxTheCollie.
We picked up two letterboxes and a total of twenty in this series.
We also found a great fish and chip shop.
Thanks for the series -Lisette-
We will return to complete the course.

It was a lovely afternoon for a drive. The Geomutts are always impressed when their day includes sitting in the back seat, watching the world whiz by. Barking at other mutts and checking out the sights, sounds and smells in new areas.
Today had all of that, and more. Fish and chips in the park. Many finds and not a single dnf for us.
We started at "Letters to Dad", continued on through this series and finished our day at "Letters to Mum".

An interesting puzzle series that I enjoyed solving. I got started on looking for them pretty late this evening, and ended up looking for most of them in the dark. As a result there were a few that I didn't find that are most likely there. Cheers and TFTC
Parked nearby and made the discovery without too much problem. Log signed and all back safe again.
Solved the puzzles for this series in the week and thought I better get out there and put the smiley faces on the map. Went off on a tangent initially trying to solve these but the co soon recalibrate my head. Hopefully these will put me in good stead to get me to my 4000 find this Easter break. Thanks for the fun, TFTC
Found a nice spot to park the car, and even before the girls were getting out of the car, I had the cache in hand. Nice quick find in the obvious place, however I had to put it back it allow my daughter to find.

Over the summer weeks I have been utilising the extra daylight to do a weekly morning caching run down the peninsula before heading to work. As we push on into autumn (and before the hour changes) I notice the sunrise getting gradually later and my daylight opportunity lessening. This was my seventh find of nine caches this morning that I was able to grab on a well planned route. I had found most of this series ages ago (December 2015) and solved the puzzles before that. This one was a quick find in a likely spot. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables. Thanks for this cache and for the series Lisette.

Jack has spoken. I have had these on the Astro radar for a while. Great to explore and also catch with AstroThomas who is working in the waters near by. met some interesting people and tasted some good local food and sipped some local beers as I explored over a few days here.

Found this cache today on this absolutely beautiful Melbourne day filled with sunshine....... Not, but you think a little rain is going to stop me from doing this crazy game hahaha. Today I spent the day with BendSinister picking up caches around the Mornington Peninsula (and completing another day on my caching day streak yay it's day 20 haha) with the intention of finding the new lord of the rings mysteries and anything else along the way. Anyways I would like to thank you for the cache and the adventure that we had today, I really love this game and want to go out to do some more soon. Cheers

The long-planned birthday cache run finally arrived! Having discovered that Omegaman1971 and I were born only two days apart, we agreed to go caching to celebrate our almost-joint birthday. Omegaman invited a few geocaching friends along, and we soon had a couple of cars full. After birthday cake and presents in Hastings, we piled into cars and started out on the Jack Speak series. We had planned this trip months earlier, and had long since solved the puzzles. We picked up a few other caches along the way to add to our collection of smiley birthday faces In the end, I did find my 1000th cache; it was nice to do it with such a great group of geocaching friends!
Thank you to everyone who placed and maintains caches in the region. I look forward to completing more of them when I move down to the Peninsula next year...

Okay...we have finally got to the Jack Speak series with 6 cache teams. We all worked on the series prior to arrival and moved though them progressively, making quick finds in most cases, although there were a couple of tricky ones. Also learn a lot about naval expressions. In most cases, this will be a generic post. Thanks -Lisette-. Great work.
Out with the Birthday Team (Morcs4, QueenK8, Promontory, Omegaman1971 and Happypants) to celebrate two birthdays. Thanks for the cache.
Found with omegaman, Promontory, Morcs4, (_o), QueenK8 this afternoon after a birthday bash in Hastings and we planned to tackle this series to celebrate the day, so far, so good with locating the caches. Interesting naval story regarding this one because many a time I have used the extension of this saying, fortunately today was not one of them, thanks -Lisette- for the cache.

A relatively quick search was all that was needed here. Which was a relief after the looooong hike in from the roadside. Pretty sure though that the one and only correct hint for a location like this is actually *fghzcrq?* Thanks -Lisette-!
Today gwd.aussie and I targeted this series of caches and enjoyed exploring the area. It was well into the afternoon when we started but in most cases we had the cache quickly to hand.

I logged this one and returned it and then noticed that the resident over the road was leaning against the fence with his child running around. I wonder if he saw what I was up to. He had a superb view. Hopefully he doesn't come over and muggle the cache, but if it were to disappear, I'd be knocking on his door first.
