TFTC! 15 October 2024 3:21:30pm 8632 thanks to pimpmyballoons for the cache! Had to complete this on the way day due to no where to pull over flinders bound! Quick find!

Spring Victorian Incursion 2024.Day Thirteen: Mostly Mornington Peninsula.Weather: glorious!!One of several Jack Speak caches logged today. I actually had a former RAN officer staying at my place for a extended period back before I was caching - he knows the slang, I tested him on some of them. I had one DNF today and for the finds, the caches seemed to be in reasonable condition in most cases, but I was a bit concerned about the state of the logs and Im not sure if I picked up all the available clues. The road is relentlessly busy today, and although the placement of the bonus seems to want you to go west to east, I found that in a number of cases you needed to be going the other way to be able to safely pull over. This is a pretty awesome body of work, and I do hope I get to finish it one day, thanks for all your efforts -lisette- and pimpmyballoons.

A lot of these sayings are very familiar to me, and have made their way into mainstream language. I am finding their origins very interesting. The cache was found and all is good. Thanks for the hide.

Out chasing some negative elevations for a challenge and a few more jack speak that l solved 2 years ago but have remained uncollected until now.

02-Dec-23
I couldn't remember which cache looked like it had been run over by a bus but judging from the previous logs this must be it! Thanks pimpmyballoons

01-Dec-23
Loved solving these puzzles once I realised what was required. This one proved a little more difficult to grab due to lack of places to safely pull over, and once there we found the container on the ground. Returned as best we could and kept going on our mission. Thanks Lisette for placing and pimpmyballoons for maintaining this series for our geo-enjoyment. Cache on

Found on the ground

When I grabbed the cache I had to laugh because it looked like it had been run over by a car. Obviously it would be hard to get a car in here so I can only assume it was dropped on the road at some point.

Only once in my geocaching journey have I run over a cache. I once dropped a nano near my car and couldn’t find it and so I moved the car for a better look. I found it and also the pancake it had become. Funnily enough I couldn’t get the lid back on it and I’m pretty sure I’m blamed the previous finder for my folly. tftc

First of a couple while on the way home today. A nice quick find from the obvious location at 12:20 and we were soon on our way.

Unfortunately I couldn't see any clue for the final but it doesn't really matter as I'm still miles off the finish anyway. Surprised

TNLNSL, although our BYO pen geocoin had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks -Lisette- (now adopted by pimpmyballoons).

After a little help from dromaniax & the CO we calculated all the waypoints for this series and set out with our dog to see how many we could find.

We started at the most Southern Point and are working our way North - please note in this direction you have to cross the road to retrieve the caches.

We are enjoying the series, despite being scratched and prickled by a variety of overgrown bushes and vines. We should have wore gum boots lol

12-Nov-22
Found it. Thanks for the series

Holidaying in Victoria had a look at caches that are near our accommodation and came across this series. Given my love of pirates I had to give it a go. Early morning start with the kids while everyone else slept in.

We were heading over to Phillip Island to ensure we were there for the start of the Great Victoria Cache Crawl. We caught the ferry from Queenscliff and had laid ourselves a cache trail to follow around to Phillip Island.

The weather was great for caching as the sun was out and the wind was merely a gentle breeze.

We have had the Jack Speak series solved for quite some time and today we had the time to find quite a few of them. We suspect they were designed to be found heading in the Southward direction, but we were able to find a safe park for all of them as we headed roughly Northward.

We found the cache safe and sound, Thank you -Lisette- for this cache and to pimpmyballoons for adopting and maintaining this series.

13-Jul-22
Found with Bogonghazy who has previously solved them. Cold day but always time to cache. Thanks for placing the geocache

Find # 10888

Found with sharkiefan.

The task for today was to tackle the Jack Speak series and a few around the area.
Despite the morning drizzle we still managed to make the Jack Speak finds along the road. Even with a DNF we still managed to work out the final.
Then when the rain passed and the sun was out we done more exploring and finding quite a few "Welcome to..." cache at each town we passed coming back up.
Throwen in was a couple other puzzles we had solved.
A fun day had over on the Mornington Peninsula with a total of 45 smileys for the trip.

Found with FUF009.

Jack Speak Day.
We had planned this trip a while ago and had the puzzles solved even longer ago.
Depsite the wet weather and gloomy looking day, we decided to head out and have a crack, prepared to give it up if it became too miserable.
Pleasantly we ended up with some beautiful if not windy weather and had a great time out this end of the state.

I went out with Jetsons23 today to try and tackle and maybe finish the Jack Speak series and grab a few others along the way.

I just got back from the Townsville Mega caching in 30 degree humid days and I welcome the very cool weather here today.

Thank you for the cache here -Lisette- and pimpmyballoons

Out with oshfam on this cool but fine day to hopefully finish this jack speak series. Thanks for the hide.

05-Apr-22
We're back again for the Jack Speaks series after finding a number of these back in March. Apologies for a number of generic logs. The finds were straightforward although traffic on the nearby roads was always a concern. As were the blackberries!! Thanks to -Lisette-/pimpymyballoons for the puzzles and the caches.

28-Mar-22
My visit to the Peninsula was triggered by a plan to find the ** Double Calendar Challenge ** cache for my 3,500th find. With that task complete and still plenty of time left in the day, I was now stopping for of the **Jack Speak** series as I started my way back to Melbourne. This one was a nice, simple find.

Thanks **pimpmyballoons** for keeping **Lisette's** series of caches alive.

After visiting a friend nearby I decided to grab some caches including the jack speak trail which I had solved long ago.

A busy road and not a great place to park but fortunately a quick find so I could move on.

Thanks -Lisette- for the cache.

Why am I surprised? Accurate co-ords help! Not sure all this naval lingo will help me in the mountains, but this series was a confidence booster to puzzle solving capacity which is close to very average. Really enjoyed the research and the big ticks. Nice day out before the BIG winter LOW looms in on us. TFTC

My apologies for the delay.

After a successful run at the first half of the Jack Speak series last weekend, it was time to take on the other half en route to an event in Flinders today.
I'd solved the puzzles about a month ago, finally taking a closer look and realising they weren't as scary as they seemed, progressing through the series in spare time over about two days - nice and relaxing puzzles to solve that I enjoyed sitting and working out.
Much nicer weather today made for some lovely cache hunting and a fantastic lunch at the beach.
Thanks to -Lisette- for placing this series and maintaining it through the years.

Backtracking for this cache too, and our last find (excluding the one DNF) for the series!
Easy to find in the obvious spot, opened the container to find something we were more familiar with!
Thanks for placing this one.

Came down to the area yesterday with about half the Jack Speak series ready-solved, but after a couple of DNFs and several more solved locations where I wound up just passing straight by GZ rather than try stopping (combination of heavy-ish speeding holiday traffic and nowhere to safely pull over) I was starting to wonder if perhaps this series just wasn't for me.

(Which was potentially a shame as I really enjoyed learning about some unfamiliar nautical terms and hey, word searches are pretty relaxing!)

Happily my luck was a tiny bit better today, with a clear spot to stop ahead of GZ, and a fairly well-known/predictable hide style making this the first of two JS hides found. Having said that, to be honest I'm not a huge fan of this type of hide location, as it's inherently a sketchy place to be standing (otherwise the hide structure wouldn't exist) so Geoson the Younger (age 9) had to wait in the car while I went to look.

Having checked the places containers are usually placed for the location type I was again having no luck, and as I'd noticed most of the caches in this series haven't actually been found for five to seven months was also beginning to wonder if perhaps they'd all been muggled/lost/destroyed.

About to give up, I noticed a familiar-coloured glint at my feet, and scuffing my foot found a battered and semi-crushed example of the ubiquitous Eclipse mint tin almost completely buried in the roadside gravel.

It took a bit of levering to prise the end back into shape enough to open the lid, within which a thankfully still-intact bison was found, so I quickly signed the log and then replaced the whole deal in the more usual hiding place for the location (as per the hint) before heading back to the car. Thanks for the cache, -Lisette-.

Out with my geo son today doing our first geo trail together. We had finished interesting puzzles learning about all the navel terms a while ago and was just waiting for a full day to pick them up. Great day starting with the sun just rising and finishing off as it was setting, Discovering this area was an added bonus. Picked up this along the way. Thanks for the series Lisette we really enjoyed our bison day

Out Caching with XAMBO4U for a Mother Son adventure day. Time to knock out this series!

16-May-19
#15973. Heading to Portsea for a few days but detouring down the left side of the Peninsula so I can gather up the Jack Speak Series that I have wanted to do for so long. Also picked up a couple of "Welcome To" caches along the way. Two DNFs and a lot of caches without clues did not help me to get the final - which will have to wait for another visit, maybe!

A guard rail - that is a nice change - well I thought it was until I retrieved the squashed container. It was full of ants and their queen and I need to resort to some strong measures to prise the lid off. Not quite sure what happened to the outer container but it is not in good shape.

Thanks -Lisette-

It was leafotwind's idea to see if we could knock off the Jack Speak series (which he'd done the virtual hard yards on), and maybe turn the outing into a 50+ day. I provided the vehicle as he's, er, between cars at the moment, and despite the weather not quite cooperating, we achieved our goal, and some.

Only one DNF, which is pretty darn good considering my usual blindness to one particular kind of hide which happened to predominate this afternoon.

-Lisette-, thanks for a fun trail of caches.

11-Mar-19
I had solved the series some time ago and had always intended to try and combine it with a couple of the shorter series' put out by other cachers to achieve a tally of 50 for the day. I thought some company might be in order both to add to the fun as well as provide a separate set of eyes. Nirgalagrin answered the call and a good thing too! He dialled in a little earlier than I and a number of those bisons might have taken a lot longer without him!
We did end up hitting 50 for the day and amongst those found the only 5/1 trad in the whole of Victoria by happenstance!
Thanks to all the COs who placed these caches for everyone to enjoy and indeed in the case of the Jack Speak series have maintained them for all these years.

31-Jan-19
Crustyvarmint and I decided to attempt this series after completing the puzzles but after doing about 10 of them we thought it might be advisable to go back to the ones we had already completed to check for clues. Oh well a newbie mistake I know but I was having a bad day.
Saying that most of these caches were reasonably easy to find (some more difficult) but well set up puzzles, a joy to complete and informative. Great series. TFTC.

I went out today with Bunadoorian. We had each solved the puzzles to locate GZ, then shared the hunt. It was an enjoyable trip and we gathered the information for the final, but somehow it didn't work. More time required to complete the task. Thanks very much for the series Lisette. Please accept the generic response for our finds today.

Returning to find some more of the caches from the “Jack Speak” series. I completed the puzzles from this series a while back hopefully I can gather a few more today. This was the quickest search of the day .. I really like these caches after completing a difficult search for the previous cache . thanks Lisette for the series ..TFTC

Pwala and I decided it was about time we found these caches. We had solved the puzzles about a month ago, but today was the day we were both finally free. I was skipper for the day and Pwala the main finder. We managed to only have one DNF for the series, and had a great afternoon! Thanks so much for placing this series -Lisette-

Every day before the Melbourne Cup public holiday, work completely closes, so that gives me a paid long weekend. The plan with this day off was to hit the Mornington Peninsula.

Not sure how, but we missed this cache when collecting the rest of the series over 2 visits. Today parking right near the obvious gz location. The cache was then quickly found, completely covered in ants but I was just able to grab, sign and return

Now I have finally completed the entire series. Thanks for putting this series out

Thanks for the cache -Lisette-

What an extraordinary morning. Fantastic day for caching in the middle of winter and finding some mythical creatures. Out with Cheeky Wink for a great day of fun and this series certainly delivered. All puzzles solved earlier apart from the last one which we hope to complete today. Thanks Lisette for the effort put into this series. We enjoyed the route, the scenery and the hunting.

This was the first of this series that was in such an easily accessed cache, except for parking was not as safe as I’d like on a double line . We were just able to get right off the . Long grass to get out on on the passenger side of the car makes it s bit daunting at this time of the year on a warm day.

Solved the puzzles for this series in the week and thought I better get out there and put the smiley faces on the map. Went off on a tangent initially trying to solve these but the co soon recalibrate my head. Hopefully these will put me in good stead to get me to my 4000 find this Easter break. Thanks for the fun, TFTC

Today I had the day off so I decided to go and have a big day of caching around the Flinders to Balnarring area, with the goal of clearing this area out. With me have to attend a Welcome back party for one of my friends who was studying abroad for a semester. Anyways sadly my day was cut short as I had to drive around and do some surprise errand in the afternoon. Anyway this cache was quickly found with little to no hassle. I would like to thank you for the cache and the adventure.

The long-planned birthday cache run finally arrived! Having discovered that Omegaman1971 and I were born only two days apart, we agreed to go caching to celebrate our almost-joint birthday. Omegaman invited a few geocaching friends along, and we soon had a couple of cars full. After birthday cake and presents in Hastings, we piled into cars and started out on the Jack Speak series. We had planned this trip months earlier, and had long since solved the puzzles. We picked up a few other caches along the way to add to our collection of smiley birthday faces Smile In the end, I did find my 1000th cache; it was nice to do it with such a great group of geocaching friends!
Thank you to everyone who placed and maintains caches in the region. I look forward to completing more of them when I move down to the Peninsula next year...

Found with omegaman, Promontory, Morcs4, (_o), QueenK8 this afternoon after a birthday bash in Hastings and we planned to tackle this series to celebrate the day, so far, so good with locating the caches. We over shot the gz a little and we had to head back on foot and made a quick find, thanks -Lisette- for the cache.

Okay...we have finally got to the Jack Speak series with 6 cache teams. We all worked on the series prior to arrival and moved though them progressively, making quick finds in most cases, although there were a couple of tricky ones. Also learn a lot about naval expressions. In most cases, this will be a generic post. Thanks -Lisette-. Great work.

After picking up our new beast in Melbourne (Landcruiser) we headed over to Hastings in the company of DAB to conquer the "Jack Speak" series on this lovely sunny day. With perfect conditions for caching we started up one end and worked our way down to the last puzzle, collecting the clues as we went, enjoying the views from some of the vantage points. With the detailed hints making for quick finds most of the time. The new 4x4 didn't miss a beat , coping with the stop starting as we worked our way through the series making for a fun day. We unfortunately did not get all the clues for the final, but there will be another trip on another day where we can finalise this Naval slang series giving us an excuse to come back to this lovely area.
**Thanks -Lisette- for the fun puzzles and an awesome series.**

12-Feb-16
Another combined effort for a caching trip, today it was The_Tritonz and myself. Our plan was to grab the " Jack Speak " series of caches. It was very interesting learning all of these Jack Speak terms. Thankfully the puzzles weren't too hard either, they were all a pleasure to do. We thoroughly enjoyed our day, collecting the caches. There were plenty of laughs, mainly at Chris's expense. Razz We were spoilt with the scenery and the gorgeous weather. Unfortunately we didn't find all of the clues and we missed out on the final. We will return for the missing clues and claim the final !! Thanks for filling in our day. TFTC -Lisette- Smile

Find #1877

Apologies for the late log. I'm still clearing a backlog (no pun intended) of finds from over the holidays. I headed out on a warm New Years Eve morning to tackle a number of the Jack Speak series and a few other along the way.

This was find 10 of 27 for the day. Had to wait for a run of traffic to pass here but once it was safe I made the crossing and soon had the cache in hand. They weren't easy but at least following some patterns the more that were found. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables. Thanks for this series and for the cache -Lisette-.
