Logs
Thanks for find. Log, plastic bag and container soaking wet, replaced with piece of paper
While in the Taranaki area this week, we are trying to find the last few caches we need to qualify for the 174 East challenge. We were pleased to get this one after failing to find the other one nearby. It took a few mins to find as its well hidden behind long grass. TFTC G-2 & Gunsmoke and Nicholas Edmunds.
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)…
Auckland Anniversary: We’ve escaped the atrocious weather that has smashed the top of the North Island. Hopefully things won’t be as rough down the country. We’re hoping Taranaki will have enough sunshine and blue skies for our visit…
We avoided entering this historic site, but read the description notes carefully… This cache was a straight forward find though its extraction was tricky. We were surprised to find a G-2 cache this far south! Thanks G-2, Gunsmoke, and Nicholas Edmunds. TFTC.

Pratt's Sap # 2 (Taranaki) was transferred from G_2 to user Nicholasedmunds
Found exactly where it says. Behind the sign. The sty is a bit overgrown so takes a bit of clearing. But its still there. Didnt have a pen to sign it.
Found it great spot! Some of us went past the fence then I told them I got it!
We are up in New Plymouth for a surprise 80 th birthday so today we went up to and around this area to locate a few caches here and have lunch at Tawa Glen _ quite a fav Cafe for us. We visited the two pa sites and a suspension bridge while in the area . I enjoyed the history of these pa sites and the amazing history and unique construction of the suspension bridge where we had our picnic morning tea before exploring further afield.. there was an amazing number of vehicles crossing the bridge which surprised us.
I took photos of the zig zag trenches which i will post.
Thank you for this cache .

Checked the cache it was there but very deep in the grass under the stay and wet. So we replaced the log book. So note cache is by biggest post. Cheers
Found it. Yay. Thanks for the cache! The cache is not in good condition with no logbook. Second find today. #173. TFTC.
WE parked here and went over the stile. Check the info boards and snagged the cache. Cheers. Then walked up to the Pa. Thanks for the info on the cache page explaining it all.
Day 11- Monday 23 December. Around New Plymouth today with an event at Pukekura Park to top the day off.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

There are battens laid out for a new fence here, so it might be a good idea for the CO to check on this say once a month for the next couple of months, just in case the cache gets destroyed in the process. Of course, the battens may be for a fence somewhere else. Someone is looking after the sap - it has been nicely mowed. I would never have guessed what that structure was, so thanks for bringing us here and telling us about it.
ay eleven of Taybeedragon's and my big 3 week circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki, starting from Palmerston North. Today is wandering about New Plymouth
Highlights:
* 3 weeks, 536 caches
* Mt Taranaki had been removed for washing, which was a bit of a shame. Even after it had been returned we were only allowed to see it for it was less than half an hour a day.
* High percentage of caches with crappy coordinates
* Amazing Pukekura Park
* AMAZING Pukekura Park light show!
* Pukeiti Gardens
* Lots of cache maintenance!

Planning for the [NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:
* 20 years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20 years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* And it's 2020 - all the 20s!
Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](https://coord.info/GC87777) - you won't want to miss it!

Ah....took a few minutes for the hint to sink in! Thanks for bringing me to such a beautiful area. Such cool History here!
#1005. Day 4 of our Taranaki caching long weekend. Nice easy park and grab en route to Inglewood to visit a cousin. Another cache commemorating the tragic Land Wars of the 1860’s.
Easy find. Slaters filled the cache, and the log is a bit damp. But able to sign ok.
Tftc G-2 and Gunsmoke.

18/08/19 16:15 I like caches like this. Actually shows you something interesting and worth the drive. Down in the ‘Naki visiting family. Taking advantage of a fine day... I can see the hand of the original cache maker here... it needs something I don’t have on me to repair it, so will send photo. Thanks for this, another historic site that just sits there... Cheers, GC.
Was not where the coordinates took me and I looked around the area for ages and couldn’t find
Grandparents with Asha11, Sophie 8, Cooper 6. Our first day caching. Thank you for your effort.
Had planned to grab 5 geocaches in New Plymouth today to bring my March total upto 100 for one of the Wiarapa challenges but since work finished up early and there was plenty of time for the journey home I looked for a route that took me passed a few rural caches off the main highway circuit.
First stop along this road and we were rewarded with a quick find and by walking just a little further for information for an element of a multi.
Quite a few flies around today but otherwise a good spot to visit.
Thanks.

Wow, this sap is impressive. We looked at the signs on the road in showing where the earlier redoubts were built - couldn't believe how far the sap went. There is a mowed path down from the pa to the sap, so you can park at the carpark and walk down that way without difficulty.
Box is very nice, but was inside plastic bag, had mould growing over it and log wet. Couldn't sign it. Photo attached.

TFTC.
Cache log is unusable, someone left a stamp in with the bag and ink leaked all over the Cache.
Still good to find!
Thanks!

With a dot day to fill I took the long way home from work to get this. Even though the hint was pretty explicit it took a bit of digging around in the long grass to find it. Log is a bit soggy but still ok to write on. Thanks for the cache.

Good cache cool set up. Just quite wet. Thanks for the effort. Great history around this area
Found while on PatandJohn's HVTC cycle and tramping Xmas trip.
Be better if there was some interpretation information.
Needs log dried and new plastic bag.

Rather lovely to get a G--2 cache so far from home and so far from some weird warring nonsense between North Shore and West Auckland. Thank goodness the People's Republic of Auckland is neutral.
Nice crafting on the cache here and found quickly which was great. Shame DOC don't want us to visit. All good here and thanks for the cache.

Second day of my long weekend in New Plymouth, or more technically Taranaki.
Today I decided to forgo numbers to do something that I have always wanted to do, albeit I wanted to do it on a motorbike, but a car is second choice - drive the Forgotten World Highway to Whangamomona. So I set off nice and early.
Heading back to New Plymouth albeit the long way now.Another quick find of another nicely constructed cache. TFTC

walked down the mown track from the pa site, found this nicely camoed cache quickly and explored the Saps , great illustration of of trench design from yet another battle for this pa, this time colonials up against maori 40 odd years later than the massacre .
Found it! Also emptied the cache of its inhabitants after screeching and dropping it into the grass. TFTC.

Unfortunately the style is no longer there. We hunted through the timber but had no luck.

Mission not accomplished, this one is a bust but TFTC anyway! Couldn't find it Blenheim Bear
