Not where I thought it would be. Walked around and found it on the grass. Replaced in an obvious spot for a cache and the hint - no16I had heard about and seen the Woodlands series whenever I came near the airport- but havent actually come to find any. Today, after a drop official, early- I decided to try some. It turned out to be almost 4 hour time covering 16 km of terrain. Just over 40 caches were found, with a few inaccessible due to the new fence. Thanks Team_Woodlands for a great trail. All but 2 ,I found today had useable sharpened pencils. Terrific - I was carrying a pen. Generic log but small comments each cache.

TFTC......now entering the Eastern Bandicoot preserve and the look and feel of the bushland changes again....so many different ecological environments all in one "relatively" small patch of the Greater Melbourne environs, amazing!! There was a quick discussion between frilk and I as to which side of the fence the cache was on.Found the cache, signed the log and moved onto the next one....

Today was my third visit to this park in an attempt to find the Woodlands 100 Series. I was hoping I would complete the series today, but unfortunately that would not turn out to be the case. This was certainly not helped by the fact I didnt arrive at the park till very close to 12pm. I arrived at the park at a different entrance compared to my previous visits, beginning my geocaching day in an area I hadnt quite explored during my previous journeys out here. I then began my route which I had planned for this visit, hoping I would find plenty of caches throughout the remainder of the day. This was a very quick find as I spotted the physical container as I approached from a distance, much like my previous find. After removing the container from its hidey hole, a very large amount of ants came crawling out. I guess this cache is a part of their home. All was in good condition and I soon placed back after signing.TFTC

After dropping some peeps off at the Airport, it was time to tackle these again. This was my third visit, and armed with an extra battery and sunscreen, I suspect it may be my last. All were found fast, with a few exceptions. I love walking in this area, and once you get 1km from the car park, you don't see anyone at all; which suits me perfectly!

A lovely mild day so I loaded up the deadly treadly and set off to finish off the Woodlands series. The last time I was here the Back Paddock was all locked up and no information about when it might reopen. Fortunately, it was open today.I started at #70 - Take Off, which was a good title as the planes were taking off to the north, so I could hear them roar all morning. I think they might have driven the kanga bouncers to another section of the park though, as I saw none.It took me a couple of hours to clean out the Back Paddock and edges of 30 caches. Thanks for keeping this series in such a good condition. Thanks, Robmc.

Theres sun forecast and I need to finish the woodland series. This is our 4th visit to complete the 100. Today we rode for 2.5hrs, shed some blood and finished with a 1.5km walk to grab a previous DNF and turn it into a smiley. Thanks for this wonderful series

Lucky last Woo hoo..
I've had the woodlands series on my wish list for some time but living almost 3 hours away made the journey to Greenvale not plausible. Then I had planned to walk the series following the Mega but the weather was crap and my Van needed some maintenance. On 20/12/22 I made the journey to the woodlands and walked for 10 hours collecting a personal best of 66 caches in a day. I stayed the night and returned the following morning to collect the remaining caches apart from those inside the back area that was closed. 2 days later those gates were opened lol just my luck. So today I returned in the hope the gates were opened and they were and with a further 4 hours of walking l was able to complete this amazing series. Huge round of applause to the CO for making this series such a pleasure find.

Back to Woodlands today to continue working through this series. This was our fourth trip here so far. Last time we had aimed to get the geocaches in the back paddock but it was locked. Today luck was on our side so away we went.

Our first find of the day let us start our 2023 geocaching journey with our 400th find. Then we continued chipping away at this series. Three and a half hours and 10 kilometres later we had ticked off another 29 geocaches and made our way back to the car, beating the rain and storm.

Find No. 3893. Found with FUF009.

A day trip down to do the Woodland series of caches.
Took our bicycles and FUF009 came with us.
Arrived at the gate, unloaded our bikes, had a cuppa and off we went getting our first cache at 8.55am.
We worked our way through the series stopping several times to watch the coming and going of the jets at Tullamarine.
After a long warm day with several challenges, we arrived back at the car park for a rest and well earned cuppa.
We put the clues together, punched in the co-ords and went and claimed the final cache of the series.

Find # 11439

Found with Tyred n Cranky.

Well this has been a long time coming, to do the Woodlands caches. Many a plan has fallen through due to health and pandemic and work issues. But finally all was on our side for a cracker geocaching day to end 2022.

With bikes loaded up we were off, left St.Arnaud just before 6am and had the first cache signed at 8.55am. Then it was just one by one, following the GPSr.

From flowing trails to bush bashing (with and without tall grass) and even a bit of water, we had a lot. All the while the sounds of planes going overhead, birds around and the odd 100 roos thumping the ground when we disturbed them.

We managed to make good time and accomplish all we set out to do. Despite the heat and a couple of hills I had to walk up.

We believe luck was on our side with the back paddock being opened, after seeing so many had commented on it being shut.

All in All, personally, it was great to finally get this series done with a couple others thrown in that are in the park.

Oh and by the way, we got back home just after 9.30pm. A big days outing.

SteMicMitSar and I have been wanting to do this series since it was published but couldn't make it happen for a variety of reasons. That changed today. All but two caches were found by us and the log stamped or signed. Lots of wildlife spotted amid the roar of jet engines from Melbourne Airport.

Parents were arriving back in Melbourne at around 7ish, so with a Sunday off work because of Easter, what better way then half a day caching. And what better location than right next to the airport Smile). Walked for around 4 hours and managed to pick up 44 caches from the series. Will definitely be back to finish off the series at a later date. A highlight was seeing all the planes so close to the ground, such a great park thanks for placing all the caches in here.

After realising it where we needed to be, made the adjustment and found the cache Smile))

Out on what seems to be an annual event, hunting caches in the Woodlands series with Team_Roberts1 on January 9th! With the two junior members of Team_Roberts1 on bikes we attacked the southern section of this series today finding 31 caches in total, great way to spend a lovely summer day.
Another quick find this time
Thanks to Team Woodlands for this one and the series.

I started this series late last year and was determined not to leave it too long to complete it. Today was perfect, not too hot, not too cold and quite dull so no glaring sun to make the screen hard to see. This is an excellent series in a beautiful bush setting not far from the city. If grass seeds where gold my socks would be rich!
Last one for the series, many thanks to Team Woodlands for this epic cache-fest.

Have flown down to Melbourne from Sydney for a 2 week training course at the Melbourne Tullamarine Airport Air Traffic Control Centre, but my main interest will be in collecting as many Victorian (VK3 in HAM radio terms) caches as possible during my free time away from the workplace. My primary caching target areas will be the Woodlands Historic Park (with it’s 100 plus caches), the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail, the Outer Circle Railway Trail, the Donaldson’s Creek Trail, the Ruffey Creek Trail, Eltham (Diamond Valley Railway), and the suburbs surrounding my Essendon apartment. This was the 57th of 85 finds for the day, and the 140th of 242 finds for the trip.

With only one weekend available to me for private activities (between the two weeks of training) I planned to make the most of it with some serious caching activities lined up for both days. Today (Saturday) was to be the biggest day with a serious attempt at completing the mammoth "Woodlands 100" cache powertrail located around Historic Woodlands Park, which I had started doing on my Melbourne arrival day last Sunday.

This one was next along the trail, and the first hidey hole on the feature I checked revealed not the cache but a highly venomous Brown Snake, so cachers BEWARE!!!!! Moved around to the opposite side of the feature and there was the cache. TNLNSL, and then replaced as found. TFTC Team_Woodlands.

A few months ago SSRAT AND GOOSE paddled over from the island of all things AMAZING ️
(In case your a little slow it’s TASSIE)
This trip was to finish what we failed at a year earlier which was to ‘Smash woodlands’ in one day
Anywho, so around we went and nailed the rest of the series on this trip whilst keeping Richard away from any bikes that could ruin the chance of finishing our TASK
Sorry for generic logs but we did have and amazing time in this area and a ton of laughs were had.

Well it's a return tip to the big island for myself and goose of gooseandegg, many many moons ago along with 1Toolman we tried to do all of the woodlands series in one day, we had planned it well or so we had thought but a puncture on one of the bike stopped us dead in our tracks and the plan of doing it all in one day was dead Sad

Today 749 days later we traveled up from Hobart to finish the Woodland series with the 1Toolman as our driver/guide, the weather was looking like it was going to rain all day but we got away with a couple of light showers for a few minutes with the big clouds staying away unlike last time where we were finding caches in a thunderstorm.

We started on the Eastern side and worked our way round enjoying our caching and taking our time unlike last time, we found easy hides, nasty ones and a few throwdowns, pulling in a few outside the series and after 7 hours we had at long last the woodlands was found.

Along with the woodlands we collected a few other caches before heading home, the weekend was a great laugh with good mates with us laughing for a couple of days at one thing or another.

Thanks for the caches.

A little over two years ago we made a bold statement about flying over to Melbourne and knocking off the Woodlands series in a day. Well that went out the window due to a flat tyre but that is all laughable history now. Returning today to finish it off on foot, I really enjoyed the walk seeing so much more this time rather than zipping past everything on a bike (or pushing it for a while). Stainless steel rat, 1toolman and I braved the dismal weather forecast and ended up being pretty lucky with only a short shower during the middle of the day trying to put a dampener on things. Yeah we got a little moist but soldiered on regardless and soon dried out in the gusty breeze. The history, the views, the wildlife, the company and the laughs all made this adventure thoroughly enjoyable.
Thanks to team woodlands for this great series, it only took us two years to complete.

Generic log for Woodlands 1 to 62 and 84, 91,92 and 97
So here is my story for today, BackPAQer turns up at my house at 8:30am.. I'm not dressed or showered.. But we are going to start the Woodland 100 series as I want to hit 200 caches before the end of year (I only started caching in November 2018). So 10 minutes later Mountain Bikes are loaded onto the back of his car, I have some energy bars, a flask of tea and water and off we go..heavy ran for the first hour but calms down when we arrive. So First cache is the multi and its a quick solve and cache is in hand. Go back to the car and we are covered in Bull Ants... great start... be aware nests of Bull ants everywhere in this park, millions of the little things.
Anyway We set off on our bikes and throughout the day we find 65 out of the 66 woodlands hides plus 3 others. After number 22 I end up with a puncture, luckily BackPAQer has a spare inner tube... but no it has different valve, luckily i had a puncture repair kit so a quick repair and mug of tea and we are back at it. This is a great place to explore and highly recommend using a mountain bike. Lots of wildlife, Kangaroo's birds, rabbits Ants, spiders etc etc... Recommend taking some gloves for a few of the finds. By 4:30pm we had found 65 off the 100 with only 1 did not find...A great day out in a great location with some spectacular views over the airport. And yes I got my 200 cache Smile

Thanks for all the hides

It had been a few days since my last proper bout of exercise so I was up for a decently long walk. What better spot to have one in around metro Melbourne than Woodlands? So off I went and during a 16.5km walk I found a few caches Big Grin
All caches were in good condition bar one or two which had fairly damp log books. In those cases I dried out the log as much as possible and rehid the cache in such a way such that it was unlikely to be rained upon or subject to the atmospheric extremes which seem to have resulted in condensation inside the container.
Wildlife count today: 4 wallabies, a skink and a family group of kangaroos.

During a short visit in Victoria I could find this nice caches. If you have a little Wink time to your conecting flight, you can do this very interesting Trail. Unfortunately, there were some three hours left, to do the whole tour. Here you can see a lot of kangaroos, which look strictly, what geocacher are doing.

Thanks for the caches!
