I'm not going down to check any time soon.
The photo of the cache site is spot-on. Only a muggle couldn't see the cache from there.
Claustrophobia is gone. Now you'll have to think of other excuses to go canyoning!

On a trip through Claustral with EcoTeam (thanks Guys!), got out to the split rock ok (Darren on the climb, Tracy on belay). Then started hunting in the rock under the rock, around the rock, under the ledge behind the rock; but no cache to be found.

I checked with Mind Socket today, and it would seem that Claustrophobia has been muggled Sad

The canyon itself was AWESOME! so the lack of tupperware wasn't too much of a problem ... just being in this place is reward enough.

cheers Darren Smile

May 9th, 2004 while out cycling with friends. Neat spot to hide a cache. Took gem and left two bandaids. Found with friends: Energizer Bunny, Ski Bunny17 and Italian Biker. Austy

Hmmmm, point taken EcoTeam. Didn't think of it like that...
Easiest cache to find, I thought. I should do it again. "Wow, found it again, wasn't that easy". And again. "Oh, so easy".
I guess I thought I deserved it for the effort.
Consider the find retracted and unfounded.

FINALLY!
After having Blocko & Badger place this cache above our heads, and an aborted attempt last season, we finally returned to log this one as part of the Collosal Claustral Canyoning Event.
Mindsocket foolishly volunteered to extract the cache, putting his life in the hands of EcoDave, ZijerPhil, and the tree with the slings, who were all belaying.
He crossed the abyss and recovered the cache with ease, but how to bring it back across whilst needing both hands? Down the front of the pants of course! :->
All caches should come with attachment loops for just such circumstances!
We opened the logbook only to find that Blocko had been here just a few days before (logging a find for your own cache though??)
Whilst filling out the logbook we were descended upon by a commercial horde from High'n'Wild who wanted to know every detail of what we were doing. We gave the standard anti-muggle answers and distracted them while Mindsocket crossed the abyss again and replaced the cache.

A great day out was had by all.

A great day out on the Colossal Claustral Canyon Event. Logged the find and thoroughly enjoyed the canyon. The best one by far I have ever been through. Thanks B&B. Left nothing and took nothing.

Wow! That was a hair raising experience. Joining the rest of the Colossal Claustral Canyoneros, I did the obligatory slip, slide, jump, swim, scramble, slip over and descended apon the cache. My insanity gland made me volunteer to do the tricky bit before seeing what was involved. Got through it unscathed, and signed the log with the rest before continuing on our merry way.

Thanks for a fantastic challenge and location guys!
Thanks also to Tangles for being patient and advising on a better way to avoid tumbling to my death. Smile

Fantastic Cache... There should be more... bring on more..
I have inflated my finds by logging claustral as well.. is that allowed???
Thanks everyone

What can be said about this place and cache that hasn't been said before...... Nah, I'll leave that to others.
I must first thank Ecoteam for providing the opportunity to do this cache. As for the cache itself, its an easy find, a little hard to get to but thats part of the challenge. Did the usual swaps taking the appropriate Rat for our collection and left our calling card.
Noticed the recently logged "Welcome note" hidden in the pages of the log.... Thanks Blocko & Badger for bringing us to this spectualar area. I think I'll have to organise another event cache to tackle the next Blocko & Badger cache..... Stay tuned.

Well, just had to check it was still there...

Nice try but NO CIGAR.
If its easy, it ain't Blocko & Badge (TM).
If its accessible to just anyone, it ain't Blocko & Badge (TM).
If we move a cache because it's too hard then we would be the Anti Blocko & Badge (not TM).

As an aside, I wish NP&WS hadn't closed every last park and reserve and everything else this weekend. I wanted to bushwalk. Grrr.

Claustral canyon re-opened for a few days between bushfires, so we grabbed our canyoning gear and headed off in the 44deg heat!.
First priority was to do the canyon without being held up at the infamous abseils, the second was to find the cache which Blocko & Badger had placed right above our heards a year earlier.
An early start ensured that we were only the second car there, a good start. There was a closed sign, but we knew it was open so continued.

Upon reaching the abseils we could see the split rock were the cache was hidden, but then we heard a horde of people were closing in on us fast. Not wanting to get stuck at the abseils we had to abandon the cache this time around and get down the abseils. It's lucky we did too, it turned out there was a commercial group behind us, and another two groups behind them. We would have been stuck for many hours - not pleasant.

We couldn't help but think that the abseils at Claustral is perhaps not the best place to plant a cache. B&B, how about moving it to say the top of Camels Hump were both canyoners and non-canyoners can access it easily all year round?

We'll be back next season.

Look what we found when we developed the photos...

[To get to the cache from the ledge with the slings] there is a short but exposed traverse which we would recommend roping up for

Where back !

We have not done this canyon for years due to the problems with the car park and the commercial tour companies. We thought we start early to avoid this problem but going off the log one group had left the car park at 06.00. We always enjoy the walk down to falls and on arriving there found the other group still stuck on the falls. We did not worry to much as we had to find the cache. We found the description of the cache location a bit confusing. We thought the cache was 50 metres back from the start of the falls but it’s the approach that is about 50 metres back. We did not see the tape until we started the descent down the track to the falls. Once we spotted the tape we had no problems getting to the cache and anyone who knows the canyon will know the route its placed on. As we where heading over to the cache a commercial company turned with about 15 people and this made removing the cache a bit difficult as you can be seen from above and below so be careful that no one sees you. After filling out the logbook and replacing the cache we had to wait around two hours for the company to get all the clients down the waterfalls. We where getting a bit annoyed by that time, as Claustral is no place for beginners or people learning to abseil. After we got down the waterfalls we enjoyed the rest of the canyon and had a nice walk out. Really liked the cache contents so we swapped a piton for the Matchbox car.
Nice one, Blocko & Badger.
Photos soon.

Is there any climbing required from the ledge with the tree and slings?
Or is the split rock on that same ledge, and the climbing involves getting to that ledge?
I thought it was possible to get to that ledge without any actual climbing.

No cigars for you guys I'm afraid...

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!
We were the party of canyoners in front of you guys at the Black Hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were wondering what you were doing up on that ledge for such a long time as we were descending down the Black Hole.

That could have been the quickest virgin cache in history if only we knew!!

This is such a coincidence it's freaky!!

We also wondered what happened to you guys at the exit, as it took us about 30 minutes to change there for the walk out. So we figured you had either missed the exit or climbed out in your wetsuits as you were only about 10minutes in front of us at that point.

Will attempt it next time we do Claustral, we know EXACTLY where it is! Smile

I think we can almost see ourselves in that photo down in the Black Hole!
