With the days drawing towards their shortest, it can be harder to get out and about for a good bout of caching. I knew I needed to get one really solid day in during May, so put the call out to see if anyone else would be interested in a raid on Tawa.
A few parties showed interest, but in the end it was just The Seagnoid and I that parked up at Brasenose Place and then spent over 9 hours tramping a basic 'Figure of 8' along the bushwalks that border Broken Hill Road and on to the slopes of Colonial Knob Scenic Reserve, getting over 40 caches each with just a couple of DNF's along the way.
This cache was one of a number of cache I had targeted for today when I made plans for this trip a week ago. It is often said that a week can be a long time in politics, and that appears to also be true about geocaching too, as between then and now this cache has been archived.
But that didn't stop us looking for it today. We spotted it immediately on approaching the obvious location. There were no issues encountered with the container or the log, which was signed before everything was replaced exactly as found.
Thank you for this cache

This cache was missing on my GPS. I can think of a couple of reasons why that might be, the most likely being that the pocket query asked for caches within a radius, and there might be more than the 1000 maximum allowed, so some drop off. But Twig had it in his phone, so all good. I didn't even know it was archived (heck I didn't know about it at all!)
Cache found all in good order. Left behind, even though it's archived.
After trolling Facebook looking for a place to live, I saw that TwigNZ was looking to a group to do the Tawa "figure 8". I had a spare day, so why not. After 9 hours we found over 40 caches on the slopes beside and up to Colonial Knob. I completed today's objectives (find a cache for my streak find 3 caches to get my finds to 10 finds per date, a puzzle and an "other" for my puzzle and other dot days) and also found some archived caches, a cache released today (third to find), a geocacher, hardly any people and three trees (also some more trees...).

We have moved out of the area and archiving to allow another Geocacher the opportunity of hiding a cache somewhere in the area.
Thanks to everyone who found and logged the cache we hope you all had fun.

8419. A very easy find after a short walk in. Nobody around today. Thanks for the cache. Rodney.
Nice easy find while killing time before the shops open. The hardest part was getting our pen to work
Glad to turn this blue sad face into a ! Phone jumping all over the place and a new playground since last here (I think?!) but then I turned and spotted something out of place
Nice quick find with the kids. We had a short play at the park afterwards (very hot today and not much shade while playing on the equipment apart from one of the swings which created a nice cooling breeze when swinging) before continuing on with the rest of our day's activities. TFTC
Nice round 20th find for the day. Nice quiet little park, nice indeed to stop and rest a minute. Tftc!
Couldn’t find.... not sure if the hint still applies since the cache moved .... but looks to be up the bank from the coordinates - everything overgrown here at the moment ..... didn’t fancy tackling the blackberry
Couldn't find anywhere near the 'stroller accessible' areas of the park even after reading the hint...so not sure if it might be located up the steep bank or is no longer there.
Late afternoon, park empty. Enjoyed a very pleasant few minutes enjoying the bird calls. Thanks
Noted its location on a night-time walk but didn't fancy looking for it in the dark so came back in day-time for a quick, easy find. Nice to know this little green spot is here. TFTC!

Reported the play ground may be getting an upgrade. Disabled until things settle down. Hopefully the cache doesn't go walkabout in the upgrade.....
Good quick find thanks, great hint. Definitely needs maintenance. Log paper is destroyed, like practically disintegrated when I tried to unfold it. There was a sticker in the cache as well so I signed on the back of that.
The most difficult part of the cache was finding the way in. After finding the entrance did I see the sign pointing to it. Got some friendly encouragement from the dog. TFTC.
It certainly is a hidden little park. Cache was an easy find but signing the log was a little tricky as it disintegrated a little in my hands. Could do with replacement. TFTC
Nice hiding place! Good accurate coordinates made it a quick find. The log is getting very tatty - could do with a replacement. TFTC.
Clearing out a few caches in Tawa. This one on the map intrigued me as it appears to be in the middle of houses instead of in a little park. Got to GZ and followed the GPS, but couldn't reveal anything. Sat down nearby and had a think. Resorted to the hint whereupon it became clear - that's a new location! Retrieved, signed, and replaced. TFTC
Had to go for a wee stroll after eating too much Christmas food. Lovely little park. Easy find. TFTC
This could have been a tricky stealth exercise. And when a muggle did pass through before I started searching I wasn't really sure how to be circumspect. So I sat on the seat for a think and watched what the GPS made of the situation. Surprsingly it had a distance and bearing to somewhere I didn't think of. Checked the hint for good measure and everything fell into place. Dashed over to retrieve the cache and returned to the seat to sign it. TFTC.
An easy find, once I got parked. It's difficult to be discrete with a big picture window overlooking the hide. The only option is to crack on and hope! TFTC
#2002 Hand got stuck!!!! I'll check in with a neighbour and see if one can replace the log sheet as this one is nearing full.
No kids at GZ this morning.
Thanks for another cache following a recent celebration. Thanks also for the smilie.

Cool, thanks SAROC! We came back and tried to log again today with success this time. For some weird reason we were unable to log online the day we found cache. Happy cachers today
Thanks for a quick find in a place we are not likely to have known about but for caching. Its a pity the grass was overgrown today.
Clever wee hide, surprised it hadn't been found for quite a while. TFTC SAROC, #8251
nice day, quiet park with no one around. We found it after a few dnf's hooray!
Pretty much knew where this cache was going to be as soon as I read the cache page. Arrived at GZ this afternoon and only had to sit and wait patiently for 1 muggle and her mugglet to finish in the park before putting my theory to test. This also gave us a good chance to 'case out' the house next door make sure we weren't being watched through the timber Venetians.
Well done me as cache was immediately in hand, our 12th and final SAROC find of the day.... TNLNSL TFTC
Thanks again to Mr & Mrs SAROC for yet another days entertainment. We haven't got them all yet so we will definitely be back soon.

Nice early start this morning with light just starting to come. Not surprisingly no body about. Quick find and sign. Thanks for the cache.
#498. All quiet here today in this small reserve. Luckily it was the middle of the day on a weekday so no kids playing here. I can see on many visits you would have to turn and walk away. Cache quickly found in first place checked thanks to a helpful hint. TFTC
gee this one is really well hidden. had searched the spot multiple times but finally found it thanks to the hint
Think it may have been taken by mugglers. Wasn't there, we tried to look everywhere.
Am out of town at the moment so asked the cacher in whose honour this cache was created to drop by the park. They confirmed the cache is in place, tucked away nicely hidden. Happy hunting.
Number 3. Right under peoples noses. Needs to be grabbed on the sly as homes overlook this, one within 10m. Took container back to car to sign upon returning a person was sitting right on top of the hiding place. Had to wait a while, phew!
#621 easy find - rather wet day... Gumboots were useful as the grass was pretty wet. TFTC
Grabbed while out after other caches in the area. A quick find but took me a bit longer to get the fingers working properly to grab the cache. TFTC
Out for an early morning walk with my sisters geopups and popped into this hidden park to grab this one. TFTC
Find #1995. An awful day weather wise which meant I finished the day feeling like a drowned rat but I did manage to polish off some of the Tawa caches. A very audacious hide! SL TFTC.
#947 First find for the morning on our way up the hill. Nobody about so we were able to make the find quickly and move on. Nice hiding place
No one seemed to be home, or maybe they were watching reruns of the follball. The cache was found quickly and afterwards I just sat and watched a couple of fantails playing in a nearby tree. TFTC
Approached with a little trepidation being a male on my own.
No kiddies there which meant I would not have attempted the cache at all , but I had to take quick evasive action when adult muggles came by while I was looking in the correct place which made me look decidedly suspicious. Once they had gone I found the cache in the place I had stated to search, I had met the previous finder (even though he has logged for the previous day ) so I had been warned about the risk of getting my hand stuck, - he didn't reveal the exact location though- despite having big hands I had no problems. Nice to meet geogeokiwi.

I live so close, but have only now come and found this one. Thanks. Clue was spot on.
Staying with my daughter in Tawa and this is the closest cache to her house, so after dropping her off to work in J'ville for a 7am start thought it would be a good time to collect this one. Everyone must be sleeping off their Christmas excess as not a sole in sight. Easy find as I have one in Christchurch hidden in the same place. TFTC.
The park was extremely quiet when I visited and I was soon rewarded with the cache. The log is in need of replacing although there is still room for a few more signatures if people write small. TFTC
With neighbours like these, who needs enemies?
Left this beauty till last on a wild geo-outing with JardisLikeTardis. Hail, wind gusts that threatened to turn us both into Mary Poppins mimics and a wind chill factor of at least -0.8C weren't about to keep us inside today.
Upon reaching GZ, our clothes were sopping and we both clutched a hot drink to stave off hypothermia. Quickly figured out the hint but then struggled to locate the container. Thankfully JardisLikeTardis - who has far more experience at playgrounds than I - eventually came up with the goods.
Well worth a favourite for the clever use of the surroundings. TFTC

Another terrifying weather weekend...why not go caching with kjwx? Due to the freezing driving rain, the playground was completely deserted, which aided in our search. We had an initial guess as to the meaning of the hint, which turned out to be right on the money, but it still took a while to actually put our hands on the well hidden cache. Worth a favourite, as it made me smile. TFTC
Thanks for this. Felt very conspicuous but hopefully pulled it off without attracting attention.
My first registered cache. Off to look for more in my neighbourhood. Thank you.
Had a look around, with no joy.
Sat on the seat to think about it, and had a flashback to a cache in Chch.
Directed 1SportDude where to go, and he came up with the goods.
