I'd been meaning to get up and find this cache for quite a while, and today seemed like the best time for a drive in the mountains. TFTC
In the rain today we turned around before the kids got too wet. I’ll be back another day.
Out with Crash to see the new earth cache. The recent rains had made the trails slippery and rutted in places so we only got the 2WD suv to the suggested 2WD parking spot which a few 4WD’s we saw on the track later wondered how we got that far. So we walked the last few kilometres. Certainly a large and impressive rock platform with great district views. After taking it all in it was then over to the cache and onto the outer rock. The hide was soon found. Nice to see an ammo can and the signing duly completed. A bit if Cito to remove the half full Coke bottle from the cache and onto the earth cache. TFTC.

The unclaimed earth cache nearby has been teasing us for too long, so with descent weather, bella at waggy and I decided to venture north to stretch the legs and enjoy the views. We were uncertain how far we would get with a 2WD given the recent deluges, but other than a few large puddles that initially caused us to hesitate, we didn't have any trouble getting to the 2WD parking location. After a 2km walk in the brisk morning air, we were soon met with great views. The track from there has become quite overgrown in places but always easy enough to follow. The area around GZ was fascinating and always love an ammo can. Thanks for brining us to this amazing area. FP for sure!

This was the last cache of our Australia Day bash around Corrabare and Pokolbin in my newly acquired Suzuki Jimny 4x4 with Elevation. The track out here was in much better condition than I had expected and there was only one section not far from the end of the track where I was glad to have 4x4. We were taking it slowly to avoid any scratches from overhanging sticks and managed quite well in the end (Thankfully otherwise the Missus would have slaughtered me when I got home).
It was a little bit unfortunate not to be able to drive out on the rock anymore and get THAT photo, but it's probably for the best, especially if there is Aboriginal heritage surrounding the area. Even the sneaky track around the gate has been pretty well blocked off now.
Absolutely stunning views from here, looking back over Broke, and the surrounding escarpments. I have to give it a Favourite point for the view and the fun drive out here. After finding the cache, Elevation and I continued further along the ridge to an equally impressive feature in the cliff (which will be highlighted in a new Earthcache coming your way soon).
Fantastic cache. This is what this game is about.
Cheers!

Great location have been wanting to visit here for some time now. When I saw there was a GC close by I couldn’t resist. Left one, took one. TFTC!!
Found it by accident. We were out with friends and my son spotted it. Couldn’t leave without logging it lol.

After a day at the Wollembi market decided to head back to town over the mountain. Had seen this spot in 4wd sites and knew that there had to be a cache. No issues for the Pajero
Respected the location and parked outside the gate
Took heaps of photos then of for a quick find.
Road to Cessnock was a shocker did Brokenback cache on the way out.

Nice place to watch the clouds finally dump a bit of moisture on the drought-stricken valley below!

It has become an ANZAC weekend tradition in our family, a good adventurous cache with the grandfathers. Since we first gazed up at Yellow Rock from below, it has been very high on our to-do list. Being careful to follow the in-car navigation with some GPS waypoints for insurance (there are a lot of tracks in here) we made our way through the forest without problems. Only one rocky, rutted, downhill, hairpin like turn gave any cause for concern, but we took it slow and ambled down (and back up later), then on to the gate.
We stopped for photos at the rock platform and then walked to GZ. Now the GPSr decided to play silly buggers, so following its stuck compass we headed west from the top. The GPS was pointing into some serious T5 terrain, so restarted it and fired up Cachly. Now we had to go east.... we ended up traversing the front of the rocks, in front of the cave and over the sandstone arch, before arriving at GZ. I was really hoping the cache was not in the cave - it did look very cool, but wasn't sure of climbing into it today.... We could then see the T2.5 exit from GZ...
After some nervous searching the cache was spotted and retrieved, the TB grabbed, two other TBs dropped in and photos posed for (on the boulder of course). We decided to drive home via Wollombi and Broke, to check out where we had been from the 'ground'....
This is an awesome spot, with a top drive to get to, and made for a great day - thanks for the cache.

With the weather slightly cooler today than it's been in recent weeks, the time had come for me to drive up through Wollombi and out along Broken Back Trail to attempt both this cache and the new Orange Rock one nearby.
The gate at the end of Yellow Rock Road was open but I parked outside it and walked down from there, taking in the amazing views along the way. With excellent coordinates I quickly located the cache, signing the log and dropping off a TB before soaking up more of those views.
Many thanks for bringing me to this beautiful spot. An FP has been added.

A very early morning start aided by the changing of the clocks, and myself and Mr Canary set off in search of this cache and the new nearby 'Orange Rock' from the event in Morisset. We drove as far as the gates through the thick fog and walked the short track to GZ. The rock platform was interesting and we imagined that the view would most likely be amazing but we were too early and the mist hadn't risen! The cache was an easy find and afterwards I couldn't help but explore the cave below.
A very enjoyable drive and no doubt stunning views on a clear day! TFTC & FP given!

A fairly smooth ride out from Mega. We stopped at the gate even though there was a track around as we wanted to respect the area. After a walk out and up we descended to the rock and Mr Hancock found the cache on the other side to where I was.
The views would have been amazing later in the day, but we were too early to see them with the mist!?!

This is one of those legendary sorts of caches that always sits on your map just in the periphary beckoning you to come and visit. Seeing the description and logs mentioning a 4x4 is a good thing to have, I was a little apprehensive to attempt this in a (well reasonably capable) SUV. But after seeing someone got a Disco out here, well sureley I can get a RAV4 out here! Turns out you can with ease but the last part onto the platform takes some care. Some awesome views and even can spot a few other caches from here too. Moving swiftly toward GZ I was astounded by the unique formations here, unlike anything I have really seen. Cache found and signed before checking out an awesome spot further with a big hole right through the ridge. Will have to get around to making an EC for it one day! TFTC!!!!
Took the new 4x4 and partner up yo grab this. Great scenery and lovely day out! TFTC!!
We were going to come up here through the week but our plans changed. We decided to come up here early this morning before the predicted heat arrived. I was a bit worried about the track condition but there was only spot that was a little dodgy. We parked at the gate and started the walk out to gz. The wife and little one stayed up higher whilst i dropped down a bit to make the find. Found quickly signed and replaced. Then i admired the view from the boulder and went and took some pictures with the family. TFTC
A nice morning drive out to Yellow Rock for some excellent views across to Broke.
There is a new gate preventing vehicle access (approx 480m from GZ) just before the rock platform although someone has already made an alternate track around it.
The cache has been replaced with a new Ammo can. Please remember to cover well again so it won't get muggled.

What a pity! Got to this one on a walk with my bushwalking club. We walked the road from Broken back rd to gz. Found the clue quickly but couldnt after half an hour find the cache. Thanks for bringing me here tho
Great drive up to Yellow Rock but just couldn't find the Cache, very disappointed. Great views.
Gazing wistfully up at Yellow Rock from 'Go For Broke' - hope we get up there one day!
My mate and I have been hiking/4WDing up yellow rock since we were kids. We decided to go for a drive to see the rock slide that happened a few weeks ago. We accidentally came across the cache, and it was an awesome discovery! Once we had read the description in the box we decided to join Geocache. Thanks for the fun!
What an absolute cracker! Decided to grab one or two of the remaining 4wd caches in the region today, and after grabbing Accidental Cipher in the Corrobare Forest we crossed the road and had a go at this. Sadly we missed the turn on the way in and ended up exploring one or two other points! Oops. Still, I enjoyed the off road adventures. Upon some stern redirection from Mrs Garbageman, we turned around and found the actual turn and made a bumpy traverse to with 485m of GZ. There was one big drop that the XTrail looked like it might not clear and I figured we were close enough! Glorious views from GZ and from the nearby rock platform. Well worth the drive and a very definite FP from me. Thanks so much for bringing us here. Log and cache are in wonderful condition. TNLN TFTC
Today we travelled from Broke taking in the Classic Motorcycles To Brush Creek . We were accompanied today by c & pprass.
Our last cache of the day & quiet an adventure it was. It didn't seem that far but it certainly took some time to complete.
Pprass showed his driving skills over the rocky terrain. His new car shorely must have a few scratches on it.
At about 400m to the cache was about as far as we could go with the car, it was then on foot to reach GZ.
Spectacular views were had from many locations up on the mountain.
This has to be worth a favourite point.
Also a Happy Birthday to my geo hubby.
Thanks for placing this cache bshwckr

Found at 2:10 PM GAFF1 in the company of DiMorgan.
This cache was an added bonus for us. It was just 8 kms away from where we were camped, but it took 52 kms to get to [B)]
The road up from Cedar Creek was easy enough - well until we came face to face with a Honda Civic that was right in the middle of the road and didn't stop in time and hit us No damage to the Discovery, but his side fender was dented.
We then got to a few patches of rough ground with a big drop down, but the Discovery did that ok. We drove as far as we could go and the view from there was spectacular. Then a 350 metre walk to the edge of the rock and we were looking over the whole valley at a height of about 450 metres. We could see Broke and where we were camped quite clearly.
The cache was found with deadly accurate co-ords and then it was a photo opportunity for Bill as it was his birthday today. So Bill - this is our birthday present to you - hope it is a memorable one
Thanks bshwckr.

Small diversion to this one whilst doing a nearby series drove to within 346m of the cache then a short walk to locate the prize, top views from here today cache in good repair thanks for bringing us here bshwckr
A few days ago I drove through Broke and saw this awesome looking mountain and just knew I had to go up there. I could not wait very long so today I got BillHill531 to drive me and my son up here. We went the suggested way through Cedar Creek. There were some people camping there as we went past. The drive was long, but not nearly as long as what my car GPSr over estimated the trip would take. There were some interesting looking caves on the hill just after the tight hairpin turn, that BillHill did not want to slow down for. We did not drive the last two hundred meters as a large rock perfect for ripping the bottom out of the car suggested we should walk. The huge rock plateau was amazing and I had a good look around, but the gentle edge slopes kept me away from seeing the sides. The walk out was nice and the huge cave near GZ was irresistible, I had a good look, but came out covered in little weed seed pods and took the whole journey ho,e to pick them off of me. The coordinates had me keep going and going, but I turned around to talk to BillHill and spotted the cache just short of the coordinates (and cliff). Junior had a great time jumping from rock to rock, but I had to hold his hand the entire time. As we came from the pinnacle a rock disintegrated underfoot, but somehow we did not go down with it, at all. BillHill was amazed at the size and contents of the cache, and Junior loved some spiders in there, but when we went to swap them for a ball he wanted to keep the ball instead.
Thanks for the great drive, walk, views, cache and contents!

Found with TOMBI! and Grandson. Fantastic views from the plateau and GZ location. Found a Power outlet on a tree on the way to the GZ.
Finally made it out to this one after wanting to do it for so long. FFTC Ben & Mel
Very bumpy ride there! Beautiful view. Felt nervous going near the cliff. Took heaps of photos on that big boulder.

What a great track!
After visiting Biame cave in the morning and having a picnic in the wineries and tasting at the Hunter Distillery, I took my QLD friends for a 4WD up this road.
I have been trying to get to these ones for ages, and have saved it up just for a day like today.
A great view and a great drive in my new 4x4.
Favourite from me.

Last time we tried this one we got stuck 5 kms away, due to a fallen tree. This time we were a bit better equipped, should we encounter any similar obstructions, but we did not. Drove all the way down to the final lookout, and took off on foot towards the cache. Eventually found it, but about 35 meters from where the coordinates suggested, and also on a different level. It did also not really match the hint.
On the way back to the car, unfortunately Helga slipped on a loose rock, and fell so badly that she dislocated here elbow. The rest of the day was spent driving out of the forest, going to one hospital and then another to get help with the elbow. Nine hours and a cast on the arm later we were back at camp in Broke.

Today we ventured out to grab 4 caches with chippyroo up in the national park.
It seems there is only 8 crazy people that would venture out here before me, now there is 9. After arriving at the rock and taking in the view, we headed off towards the cache, after about 300m and reaching the edge. we made our way out to the drop off and had a look at the nearby cave. Amazing view of broke and the valley! We signed the visitors log on the way back as we stumble across it.

This is one of those great caches that are not just about the destination itself or the container but the great journey to GZ. We love any cache that gives us a chance to take the Geolux offroad. We drove to within 450m of the cache and ended up parking at the lookout - what a great spot. Before taking a stroll to GZ. Absolutely breath taking views from here. A fav point from us.

Another sunny Sunday and the idea of a 4wd accessible cache was top on the priority list. Following the directions given and using the tracks available to us that weren't being guarded to protect the Coal Seem Gas drills, we ended up with GZ in sight but on the other side of a valley. Backtracking a short way the correct track was soon located and a short walk/climb later the cache was in our hands. A really beautiful place with amazing views and a fun drive made this a really great day out. My father enjoyed his first proper 4wd mission to top it off. Definately would not be able to access this cache with a 2wd with current track conditions with a few big rock steps in the last stretch of track. Hint: Look for the yellow chain and turn left to ensure you are on the right track> TFTC Worthy of our second ever favourite point to be awarded for the overall experience!
Oh yeah, left a couple of trackables for the next team willing to put in some effort to recieve a well earnt reward!
Good to see another quick driveby cache up here in the bush enjoyed the road in and after a bit of a stroll had the cache in hand and signed .Thought I'd rescue a TB that has been sitting up here for a while Thanks for a great cache
I wasn't comfortable with my 4wd driving abilities to attempt to get near this cache... With a bit more off road experience I will come back and conquer this
What an adventure we had!
We did try for this one last Sunday (12/2/12), late in the day. We had spotted "no trespassing" signs en route, so wondered if the first tree across the road was to discourage would-be visitors! That one was fairly small and our three-person crew pulled it off fairly easily.
We didn't get much further up the track though when we were halted by a second, considerably larger fallen tree. This one looked as if it had come down in a storm and we decided to winch it out of the way. Good practice and a bit of fun etc. Most of the tree was pulled across to one side and our driver thought to push the rest out of the way, using our bullbar. Hmmm. Not such a great plan and we ventured home as darkness fell and the storm broke, with driver peering through substantially cracked windscreen (which was replaced through the week).
Given our less-than-best first encounter with the track, we packed a chain-saw for our second attempt (19/2/2012). It did seem that that others had tried the track through the week but even so we weren't far past the windscreen-wrecker when our way was blocked - again!
Our chainsawing/track-clearing efforts were supervised by a beautiful wedge-tailed eagle looking down from a nearby tree. It seemed a good opportunity for tea/coffee and "a little something" - and we gave up on getting home at a reasonable hour!
In all we stopped to clear another five road blocks and skirted around others when we could - some recent and others obviously that had been resting on the road for far longer.
We startled a lyre-bird bolting across the track at one point, running so fast that he/she somersaulted into the scrub!
All our road-work efforts paid off and we reached the rocky platform and enjoyed the view quickly before setting off further.
Cache was found at 7:30pm and the location was lovely - well worth the adventure (and a favourite point)!
(We eventually arrived home again at 10:00pm, very glad that dinner was waiting in the thermal cooker)!

Not being equipped with a chain saw, we had to turn around about 5 kms from GZ. A fallen tree blocked effectively our further advance.
Access via Pokolbin Mountain Rd and Broken Back Rd should still be possible, maybe in 2wd high clearance.
The council guy's said, could be a week before the crossing at Cedar Creek and Sawpit intersection is repaired for 2 wheel drive, the rest of the road is ok to within about 500 Meters of GZ.

Someone we talked to at the Sandpit event mentioned they might try for this one so we left it two days before having a crack. As it turned out we had to work to get this this one. It started with the trip up Cedar Creek Road, as we turned into Sawpit Road we were greeted by two council workers and a road closed sign. We got out of the car for a chat and discovered the road its self was not closed, it was the creek crossing that was washed away. They said we were more than welcome to carry on if we thought we could get through. Had a quick look and decided it was not too deep, so through we went. we then proceeded up Sawpit Road and blindly carried on past the suggested parking way point (unintentionally) and drove to the end of the wrong spur, after finding a spot to turn around we back tracked to the parking way point (followed the gps this time) and headed down the correct track. The next on our to do list was to cut the three trees off the track that had come down with the recent rain. So after some axe work and dragging the remains off the road we could continue. It wasn't long before the track opened into a large clearing with majestic views of the valley below. This is as far as we could drive so it was on foot from here, it was a rather easy stroll to within thirty meters of the GZ where we found a visitors log to sign, after signing this log we done the final scramble to the GZ. This is slightly tougher going but plenty safe enough. The GZ has its own viewing platform and it is worth the trip for the views. We retrieved the cache and were greeted by the best stocked cache we have ever encountered, the ammo can was nearly over flowing. Had a great time doing this one and had an interesting trip to get here. Thanks bshwckr for a great afternoon adventure.

We retrieved the cache and were greeted by the best stocked cache we have ever encountered, the ammo can was nearly over flowing. Had a great time doing this one and had an interesting trip to get here. Thanks bshwckr for a great afternoon adventure.
