Found the remains of a film container with a magnet attached. Sorry to say but muggled to death.
More despair! It seems this one is muggled. Will attend to it as soon as conveniently possible.
came up from its the pits to this one an easy find but thanks for the history on this place
Often pass here wondering what it was used for, thanks for the history the little cachers with me were fascinated by it. Shame it is in such a state of disrepair....TFTC.
Found easily and it is a shame such a historical place is being left to ruin. Would definitely recommend not doing it at night. TFTC.
Wanted to have a good look at this old structure, but seriously put off by the trash.
A quick sign of the log and off.

On a weekend of Palmy nostalgia caching - and fixing up some of my own.
Straightforward find; cache in order, log signed, safely re-hidden.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too on a perfect winter's day in Palmy.

An accidental & slightly amusing find. I took a friend to the Hoffman Kiln for some urbex and he found a little container, thinking it was a drug stash he grabbed it to have a look, but before he opened it I told him "that's not drugs, that's a geocache, open it and I'll prove it", and yep it was a geocache. I had to run and buy a pen and then go back to log it. Logsheet slightly damp and my apologies, I messed up and had to cross out my first attempt at logging it, so the black crossed out bit above lolzombies was me. Sorry for that.
11316... Logsheet damp... Hoffman's despair should be Palmy's despair, many thanks for an intereting historical cache.
Found this one on my second visit, not too sure how I missed it the first time round. Great to see that the place has been tidied up a lot since my last visit (outside rubbish all gone) - marknsamnz, looks like those council men might have taken your words on board!! TFTC, very interesting site
I headed to GZ but after seeing all the rubbish about I decided to consult the hint. I just started my search when a council worker drove into the place and parked up right beside me. Oh crap I thought. I have no doubt, he was checking me out but with me in a business shirt and tidy jeans and talking to him about this being a "historic place" and "didn't they make bricks here" and how "it was a disgrace for the council to let this go to ruins" I'm sure I didn't look or sound like the type of person that was dumping rubbish or spray painting the walls.
After a few more minutes of chatting he didn't want to leave me alone so I told him I was off to the park now (to complete the 'It's the Pits' cache). I left and completed 'It's the Pits' cache and then came back to complete this cache.
A quick, easy find (with the hint). Needless to say I didn't hang around. I signed the log and got the hell out of there.

This was my Grandmothers 2nd husbands business, i think he was the last owner. My mother told me many years ago (40 yrs) they stored their belongings in the kiln while they went on their OE. It is not the most secure of places now though. I've seen a lovely black and white photograph in a book of the kiln, so while we were there I took a few pics. Love the Maori carving bricks on the gate posts.
Found it with junior catchers..we forgot to bring our own pen so will return and log in note book one day
Visited this with my friends last weekend as an intro to geocaching, but there was a lot of mess around and we never found it. However, armed with the clue this week I found it quickly- very satisfying!
Didn't have access to the clue to know exactly what we were looking for. The site is like a rubbish tip as the moment, so not much fun poking around. We'll pop back another day now we know a little more. Broken glass, grass clippings, old couches and mattresses. Ashamed to think this is NZ really.
A very cool site. A pity something couoldn't be done with it, as it has such a distinctive shape. Easy cache - found with Crystal Fairy.TFTC
Very interesting location. Took some good pictures and found the cache before heading on. Day 3 spent in Palmy doing a few caches before heading back to Wellington. Quick and easy find. T4TC. Did with buttels
Found this cache alongside a much more keen Cacher than I some time Nov-Dec 2012. It was a good thing she was there as she made quick work of it before taking the time to take some photos of area. It is a great use of the once highly used area.
Cruising the roads on my way up to Palmy for my flight home.
TFTC - enjoyed the drive

Really good find, thanks for the cache! Took a while to hunt it down, so had a look around. Crazy I'd been walking past this for years and never bothered to explore it. Dragged Little Brother to find it; he wasn't impressed - muggles!
One of the few that didn't have us despaired today! Thanks for the cache in an interesting location! Took some photos as advised and grabbed the cache and the coin to take it along.

Escaped for a morning's caching. Easily found once I ventured past the gates. TFTC.

Even with all the graffiti and vandalism really enjoyed our visit to this site and the history of the kiln. Thanks for bringing us here. Left micro TB that is designed for this size container.
The 16 year old and mum of the team were heading south to Wellington from north of Auckland picking up a few caches along the way. TFTC
Awesome location with sweet history, the most random collection of things in the building, found old bathroom scales, putter head, watch mechanism, ripped up bible and a huge collection of electronic cables.
This was a neat spot. We had a quick look inside. A shame it's not maintained
Easy find now the junk is gone, soo tricky and could not find amongst the rubbish before

A new area for me to visit. Was with a friend so didn't get a chance to take as many photos as I would have by myself. Cache easily found when I trusted my GPS. Thanks for the cache.

#3358. Very interesting location and history. Not sure about the status of the "Private Property" signage, as it appeared all the perimeter fences had now been removed, with the remaining gate wide open. Wandered in to have look-see at this historical site. Then a quick find in the end. TNLNSL. TFTC.
Tried very hard, but could not find the cache. Found a likely spot, but no where near the co-ordinates. Eventually the rain chased us off.
Out for the day with Jono S to find caches out of Wanganui.Spent about half an hour searching in all possible places without success. Maybe it's missing
What an amazing structure - the light filtering through all the arches was quite stunning. TFTC #3569
Found with J+J.au on our NZ caching holiday. Enjoying the interesting places and sights that geocaching is showing us. SL..TFTC
A quick easy find, with markhnz, and an interesting feature to look at, and read about. TFTC
All a bit of a shame about the condition of the place. Still enjoyed visiting again. TFTC
Was out walking the dog today and went past the kiln. As I had previously loaded the co-ordinates into my gps, decided to have a look for it. TFTC.
We found the original cache last year, so were happy to return to this place again. Shame to see it even more neglected - looks like the hiding place of the original is now gone.

Historical hard to believe the city fathers did not want it when it was offered as a gift to the city.
The ukulele band was getting photos taken today. Was an easy find with the gps. Found with Missy98.
Was a bit dubious about going in as a big sign on the gate saying no tresspassing, but got cache and left pretty quick. Shame about the condition of them.
Nice quick and easy find. Interesting to learn the history, thanks for bringing us here.

Quick find. It would be great to see this place refurbished as an attraction -great piece of industrial history. TFTC.
Mrs Kenny was particularly fascinated by this place. I guess industrial history, the toil of working class men, isn't sexy. Shame really.

Love this place! - did the first one when it was here. A quick find with no one around. TFTC
I wasn't sure that I should be going where my GPSr suggested but luckily Tramper Ted's log showed up on screen so I felt okay to proceed to what was a nicely hidden cache.
I agree that this place should be given some better attention.

Staying at my Mum's in PN for a few days - will start heading home tomorrow.
Mr flowernz took heaps of photos - this place has relevance to his ancestors. His ancestors worked in one of these kilns in Melbourne in the 1860's and then came to NZ and set up the first Hoffman Kiln in NZ in Dunedin.
TFTC and the bit of history - I love it when there is a personal connection. Cheers

Had a walk through the kiln, interesting place, hope it gets some attention before it falls down completly. Found and signed log. TFTC.
I had been reading about this place only a couple of days earlair in 'The New zealand Geographic'. Great place, shame 'bout the state of it
All a bit deserted and unloved these days. Saw the sign on the gate and hesitated, then rang the owner and found out that all was good to continue to GZ. Nice hide. TFTC
Quick find while in the area. Nice to return and get #2 after logging #1 a while back. Signed log then replaced. TFTC
Found this one. Brought back good memories because the original cache in this spot was one of our first! Thanks for bringing us back here!
Liked that I found it. Would never have known the kiln was there before the cache.
Was really interesting wandering around here. Not sure if you're aware there's a no trespassing sign on the gate... we just went in anyway.
