We were waiting for low tide to cross the estuary so had time to kill. The water had receded enough on this side to find this cache. Nice hide. TFTC

Day 1 of Abel Tasman with the girl guides

30-Oct-20
Visiting from Nelson for a few days. Today's mission was a bike ride from Wanui Bay to Totaranui and back, with an 8km detour to Awaroa. And to find some caches along the way.

After grunting up the hill from Wainui Bay, it was fun bombing down here. Even the two fords hardly slowed me, although I couldn't avoid wet feet in the deeper one.

I have lived in Nelson for nearly 50 years, and never been to the end of this road, so thanks for.bringing me here.

A very quick find.

Found with mr c on our travels from the UK thank you

It looked like pukeko city round here today. I was surprised at how many cars were here in the carpark too. Found the nicely tucked away cache - not sure how but quite wet inside - dried that out and replaced. TFTC # 14,622

On a week's walking and caching holiday with trifolia argentea we aimed for 100 caches. Thanks to all cache owners.

First time that we have managed to get out to this area so was an enjoyable mini break away from home. Arrived on site and sat and had some lunch and enjoying the peaceful time and then wandered across and easily found the cache. Log was a mess so was replaced with a new one Smile. TFTC

We were over this way on a night away from " Dodge " and filling in time before booking into our room - driving out this way I had just finished saying never have done the road to the coast when Stretch0 said well we are now and shot down the gravel road Smile went to Totoranui first but it was swarming with people so decided to come down the other branch and found peace and quiet - perfect for our lunch and a quick stroll for the cache - log was sodden so we replaced it with a new cache log sheet and a new plastic bag Smile thanks for bringing us out this way and the cache Smile

18-Jul-16
Our first time along this section of road, but we will be back for more caches

05-Jun-16
We arrived here to find the carpark near full but the only people about were a middle aged couple who were just setting off down the track with their dog on a lead, muzzle attached to it's collar. As soon as they had disappeared out of sight we skipped across to make a very quick find in the most logical place.
Thank you bumandworker.

At the Waiharakeke cache we tossed up to turn around or press on till the road end. We decided to carry on and were surprised by the amount of cars at the car park. Only one couple walking his dog (huh) but they soon disappeared out of sight. If we were caught on the security CCTV it would show we made a quick find Big Grin Thank you bumandworker

A nice day for a trip to Golden Bay in the company of Mrs SoBad. We had a great days caching and enjoyed many of the best spots the area has to offer. My first time to the road end but not my first time to Awaroa. Cache quickly found but log was falling to pieces and couldn't be signed so I replaced it with a piece of paper from the car.
Thanks bumandworker for the cache.

Staying for a couple of days in the Bay and today was my caching day. After a walk to Mutton Cove and back it was time for a few quicker to find caches. I was last on this road about 5 years ago and this cache wasn't there then to entice me all the way to the end. A nice drive today. Plenty of cars there as noted but no people about. No problems with the cache either, although the log was a bit damp it was still usable. TFTC, Biggles.

Walked with Dad from the northern Awaroa Estuary crossing to the road end through some squelchy mud... lost my shoe in the mud, had to go back for it, then walked bare foot the rest of the way. Nice hiding place. Then we walked back across the mud to Awaroa Hut.

A quick find after spending the morning kayaking on the inlet. SL TFTC

2nd ford was a bit too adventurous for the 2WD town car today. If I had to save a pretty princess on the other side I probably would have made it, but it seemed a little too risky for one more smiley.

We had been told the road to Totaranui was in great condition so change of plans had us checking it out. Further change of plans had us turning left at the top to try a road we had not been on before. We did have another driver (in an SUV) roll down his window and express surprise at us being off track in our town car, but we had no problems. And no problems with the cache either. Thanks.

Great place! wasnt to sure if it would still be after all the rain and damage in the area from the heavy rain this summer....but nope, its happy and dry and loved being found! Took my sea kayaking clients on a bit of an extra mission to find this one and one of them beat me too it! Perfect excuse for a break and admire the view and now such a quiet place. HAHA TFTC Big Grin

Did some extra sloshing across the estuary to visit this. Hadnt been to road end previously. A few vehicles trapped here by current road closure! Tftc

Hooray!!! Another FTF. We had no idea this was going to be a FTF, so now we are glad we did try that ford after all. The tramper/hiker that we passed would have been REALLY soggy, because it was absolutely pouring. Double TFTC
