Hi Barad Bunch; thanks for the cache, the puzzle (I think), and the series.

Well, didn't I make a mess of this one, pretty much from start to finish.

I had no luck initially trying to solve the puzzle, and then resorted to a PAF for a nudge in the right direction. I soon had some good looking coordinates, so loaded them into the listing and into the GPSr.

Arrived at 'my GZ' and searched, widened, searched, but no luck. So eventually put the coordinated into the checker and got rejected. Hmm, why did I not check them beforehand?

Right, time to re-check, but were in a bit of a dip, with little reception, certainly the phone's data was slow! Got sick of waiting for a useful webpage, and eventually manually re-calculated the coordinates (well certainly the decimal or fraction part - and I've been caught on that before). The checker still didn't agree, so used my PAF again you check my coords - gee, I'm only a one-thousandths out!

Once at the correct GZ (only about 50 metres away) a nice quick find, but the care-take spider was not happy, although he/she soon scurried for cover.

Both bags are wet, but the inner container and log book are all good.

Bit of a milestone find, but spent 45minutes or so too long in the field for it!

I've had my eye on the rest of the "KK" series for a while, and today seemed to be the day and so I headed out with KingSmev on his "L's" to clock up some hours. We parked in Lumeah Avenue and walked a bit of a loop, to pick up some finds.

Thanks for the adventure and the walk this afternoon.
cheers, EPs.

I had long solved the KK series many moons ago but it was always just out of the way but today with myself and goose grabbing some other caches in the area we made time to find a few of these since we were in the area.

I was pleased with the classic BB hide and enjoyed adding my name to the log of at least some of these, thanks for the hard work.

Thanks for the cache.

Found on 24/07/2021 at 12:21:00 PM thanks to Barad Bunch for placing this cache for me to find.

This afternoon we had a couple of hours spare and wanted to to clear up a few outstanding puzzle caches in the Glenorchy area.

The walk around these trails was really enjoyable. This puzzle had me on the wrong train of thought for a while, but then it soon clicked into place. Nice discrete location at gz. TFTC

Came back this afternoon for a walk with the dog and to find a few more of this cache series. TFTC!

I had previously solved all these puzzles in this area and with an hour to spare I decided to go for a nice run around the reserve collecting the KK series and a few other caches along the way. A lot of the KK caches could do with a fix up but otherwise it’s all good. Thanks for bringing me here

Today I headed to Hobart to attended the celebration event in the evening and decided to make a day of it and find some caches along the way, around new Norfolk, the CBD and lenah valley . A great day out with around 60 finds.

Thanks for the cache

Solved the KK series ages ago but hadn't been in the area to find the caches so we thought today was the day. In fact we solved them so long ago we can't even remember how we solved them. After an unusual approach to this cache through the bush, we made a quick find at GZ. TFTC

A proper hike up the mountain didn't appeal today, with rain forecasted all day, so we decided to try to find some of the mystery caches in the neighbourhood, which we had solved in the last 2 weeks. Armed with an umbrella to be able to keep the caches dry, raincoat and rain pants, we walked to the start of the track and spent another 2.5 hours or so walking in a big loop through the area collecting 9 caches along the way. It rained more or less continuously, but it was still nice to be out and we did not have to worry about any muggles Smile .
This puzzle caused some trouble for a while. I thought I solved it easily, but the geochecker didn't like my result. I checked again and again with the same result. Then I tried something and got a green light. A rounding issue! I think my way is mathematically correct though, the rounding should be done at the end and not at the intermediate steps! The cache was found easily and was dry and in good order. Thanks for the puzzle!

With some embarrassment I must admit I still don't know where I went wrong with the co-ordinate calculation, but I now know it's wrong! With some subtle clues from other discoverers I eventually found the Barad style cache, and a check of my GPS location was accepted by the co-ordinate checker. Now to work out where I went wrong with the puzzle...

After finding KK01 nearly ten months ago I have been keen to complete this series. I have really enjoyed the different puzzles, with some of them more challenging than others. I have been stumped on one particular puzzle - this one in fact - but after some consultation with a previous finder I finally had solutions for KK02-KK06 so I could finally head out and see if I could turn those question marks into smileys. With a weather forecast of fine weather this afternoon, today I headed out to complete the series with a previous finder - just for a bit of support in case my cache senses weren't in tune today Smile Trying to find GZ was almost as frustrating as trying to solve the puzzle - GPSr was all over the place and it was a case of searching in every widening circles to find the cache. Glad I had another pair of eyes, the task didn't seem so onerous. As it was, I stumbled across the cache eventually - glad to turn this into a smiley - this was the one in the series that had been holding me up. Thanks for the puzzle and the cache Barad Bunch.

We decided to attempt the KK series of puzzles. This puzzle took a while to solve and because the first set of coords Mr W came up with were not liked by the checker we read the logs and decided to add the decimal point and another set of coords appeared but the checker still wasn't happy. Today with all the coords and two sets for this cache we set off with the aim of getting all six and solving KK 07 in the field. After finding KK 01 and KK 02 we moved the car and parked in Lumeah Avenue to get the next four in the series. With nearly a DNF at KK 03 we weren't holding our breath as we had two possible GZs but one was correct and there was the hide. Information retrieved for KK 07 and we were off to KK 05. A nice day for a walk. TFTP

The Evince coordinate checker is no longer available. Evidently the person who maintained it died in early 2017; a sad loss to the geocaching community. A new checker is now in place.

Didn't solve this one until later than the others after being off according to evince after the simple apparent answer was tried. Had a revelation at work that I was floating around the answer but slightly missing the point. Pulled out pen and paper and it was only a fraction of a jiffy before the correct numbers come out. Schoolboy error that one! Given my profession I'm embarrassed to admit.

Anyway went for a walk today and decided to see if I could pick up the last clue for this series. Turns out I've been past this one many times.

Cache is pristine other that the moniker of a visitor yesterday.

(593) Found after dinner on an absolutely stunning evening. We've had great luck with the weather so far this visit.
The solving: I thought I had this, and I just couldn't see where I'd gone wrong. I had the blinkers on and was blinded to the obvious. A nudge from a previous finder and I was back on track and had a solution that evince liked.
Found a handy footpad towards GZ and soon had CIH. I added the numbers I found to the formula for the final (I had all the numbers from 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 in the series, from a previous visit to the area two days ago) and hoped that my addition and subtraction were okay. They were, and I was off to GZ for the final.
Thx for a tricky one, made trickier by my thick-headedness.

Replacement cache now waiting to be discovered.

04-Dec-15
This cache has been destroyed in the recent controlled burns. It will be replaced but not until late December (sorry).

28-Oct-15
Another controlled burn is scheduled in the next few days (early November). The cache therefore remains disabled.

29-Sep-15
This cache is in an area that was recently subjected to a controlled burn. The area remains closed until further notice (due to hazardous conditions like falling trees).
Apart from the danger, the cache may have been destroyed so the listing has been temporarily disabled until the cache can be checked.

Sorry for the late log Red Face

I was happy to be out and about with membsec collecting a few caches in this lovely area. This one unfortunately gave us a few problems. First of all we started hunting in the wrong area due to a mix up with the final coords but thankfully Sir membsec was able to nut out the puzzle on location and head us in the right direction.

At the correct GZ we found the cache but it had been muggled Sad There were bits and pieces of it all over the place. Silly Muggles!!! Together we collected what we could and put it back together. Thanks to Old Saint for his help with the clue for this one.

Thanks for the cache Barad Bunch Big Grin

On a "Barad" caching day with Nyssaflutterby. Had worked these out a few months ago and had good success until one required a "Wake up and Remember" call from the CO. Determined what looked to be the best approaches to the series and then set off systematically. What a saga for this one. The puzzle gave us some good coords but still a fail. Barad reminded us that we still had more to do and then a "yes" from evince. Today made it down to the cache but nothing. Eventually checked the coords on evince for a "no". Must have copied them down incorrectly. Back to the car (up hill!!!!). Copied correctly so sat there and did the whole puzzle again to find that we had written the answer incorrectly. With new coords in hand down hill again and we find ---- parts of the cache strewn all over the area. Surveyed very carefully and pulled a great deal together but no log book, the lid had been weathered clear of numbers and no clues for KK7. Thanks to toilet paper (clean!!!) we logged our visit and thanks to Old Saint we were able to get the required clues for KK7. Wow - take a breath and move on.

Ok, spent WAAAY too long on this one, over thought, under thought.. just plain missed the point.. then a 'typo' BUT.. on wards and finally CACHE LOGGED ! Smile interesting that not too many favorites have been given, and even less clues eluded to in logs. Well done Barad. TFTC

We spent ages working this one out and unfortunately entered the wrong digit on our GPS. At the location we 'phoned a friend' for a quick check of the numbers and off we went to grab this one as well. TFTC

After checking with the CO, I was kindly advised that I'd worked out the coordinates incorrectly. That will explain why I couldn't find it last time... With a helping hand I now had the correct coords, and found it quickly. Now for the Final (and I just knew it was going to be there... drat!).
TFTC!

Decided to do a walk in the area and gather as many caches as i could. The weather looked a little grey early, but it cleared up to be a perfect day. Saw quite a bit of wildlife - wallabies, black cockatoos, curawongs and plenty of other birdlife.

This puzzle had we baffled, although after some searching on the Internet I had found out enough information to move forward. After hitting a wall, I emailed the CO for a further hint. Another piece of the puzzle was given, and then after further decoding I finally had the coordinates! That was a hard one...

As for the cache, I searched for a good 20 minutes, but in the end I just couldn't find it. GZ was a little hard to pin point because of the trees, so I extended my search area by 10-15 metres, but it didn't help... Maybe the cache has been dragged into the bush by an inquisitive creature, or I was in the wrong place.. I'll be back...

After 'Eclipsed Tower' we set out to do the Kalang Kaleidoscope series after working through them about a week ago. These type of puzzles use to totally daunt me/us but now I have enough knowledge to make a start. Barad Bunch generously assisted with 1/2 but happily we had been on the right track with all of them.
This puzzzle had me stuck. I made some correct interpretations but didnt know how to twist them. BB set me on the right track. I knew from evince we were close but not correct but no trouble in finding the cache. TFTC

KK 04... Read how difficult this one was.. So Matt and I went in to different tracks in solving this one... well he got there kind of first but still need a hint from BB. It then made sence.. found the spot and KK04 was done. Thanks BB for the help....

25-Jan-14
Cache zombified. Must admit contacting the owner for the last part of this puzzle - very clever and something I had not come accross before... Headed off down the track and then had to bush bash the last 80 metres or so. Did wonder why gz needed to be so far from the track when I realised there was a much more scenic track just near gz. Cache was in good order but the logbook was slightly damp (Not sure how more secure the contents could be).Tftc.

29-Sep-13
This was looked at about a year ago but given away as too hard. Anyway as Sue had solved the nearby steganography it seemed a good idea to see if this one could be cracked while we were in the area. Despite copious help from Barad, Peter was still unable to work it out. Eventually Barad gave so much help that Peter was finally able to get the answer. It is just as well that he doesn't have to get Barad to mark his paper as it would probably be 0.5/10. TFTC Barad Bunch

The score at Kalang was 2 Boneseed pulled out and 2 geocaches found, the parent Boneseed was also spotted and, being too big to pull out, was smashed down. Now we need to find locate the KK parent to finish the K series.

19-Jul-13
Finally had another go at finding this one after having to abort my attempt a fortnight ago due to a persistent downpour. This one was one of the Kalang series that I needed to get a hint for from the cache owner. After a bit of research I knew what this cache was about but had no idea how to ascertain coordinates from this information. That's where the cache owner's hint got my over the line. This time at the Gz I had much less troublel. The GPS still played up a bit, but the good weather gave me the patients I needed to seek it out.

19-Apr-13
For me, this was the last of the KK's I solved & yep, it took a small hint from the CO to get me there. The code used popped out easily as I knew a bit about it, but translating it into meaningful numbers seemed impossible. BB set me straight on that, though I'm still not sure on the why. No matter, numbers that made sense soon appeared but I got a red light from Evince. A log note from the CO gave me another clue & with a slightly different approach I had another set of numbers that were acceptable.
Once the log was signed time was getting on & we regrettably had to return to the car leaving the other 2 solved KK's & the final for another day. Thanks for the challenge BB & we'll be back.

After getting a small nudge on most if not all the kk series from the owner I spent a day or so working at these and got solutions for all. Today after a truncated training day I decided to take advantage of the sun and go for a walk. I had a struggle finding this one. I got to gz and looked around for the now familiar barad bunch cairn without success. I checked the coords and remembered a difference in decimals depending on what's used. iPhone to the rescue and I worked it out again then moved 30 meters to my left and found the cache. Thanks for the cache

This puzzle was a doozy, definitely the hardest of the lot ! First one method, then another, until gradually a picture and method began to form......then, at last, some respectable coordinates ! Triumph ! Big Grin
The drizzle amounted to nothing, and the cache was easily found ! Big Grin
Thanks for the cache, Barad Bunch ! Big Grin

13-May-12
Even though the weather was threatening rain again today (well actually it was already raining) I decided to head out from home and find these caches now that I have solved all six puzzles. The caches were within walking distance so I packed a few critical items (mainly a rain coat and some snacks) and headed off. Turns out the weather wasn't too bad at all really, and even though it was allegedly only 8 degrees I completed most of this series in just a T-shirt.

Of the six puzzles this was the one that I found the hardest. I didn't have much trouble working out the subject matter of the puzzle, but I couldn't manage to put any sensible figures to my working. Eventually I asked for some help. Aha! A hint, and suddenly I thought it all made sense. Silly me! How could I miss that?! But then more problems, and I had to request another hint. Again I felt silly, and I had considered the correct solution but not applied it correctly to the problem. Finally I had a good set of coordinates and could move on to solving KK05!

After having located KK03, KK06 and KK05 I tried to make my way to KK04. This was when I discovered two things - first, that the track that I was on wasn't going to take me to where I wanted to go, and second, that there were plenty more tracks that I was unaware of until I went direct through the bush to the waypoint. Again the cache was found without difficulty under a little pile of (very neatly fitting) rocks.

16-Feb-12
The coordinate checker Evince will now allow for a small variation of the coordinate values. This should permit finders to use various methods of solving the puzzle and cater for small rounding errors. The consequence will be that a wider area may have to be searched to find the cache.

15-Feb-12
Found this puzzle pretty tricky. I did a google search and there are so many acronyms that it could have been! Thankfully BB set me on course and I got some numbers but further complications ensued, but they eventually got sorted! I was one second out, but of course evince doesn't say "Not quite, but really really close". Nice hide and the cache was in pristine condition and perfectly dry. Thanks BB.

Hi Barad Bunch
Had been working on this series since their publication.
The brain strain was too much at times.
So, I had to bring Mum back to Huonville early this morning after Annie's 60th birthday party at Taranna last night. Playing golf at Huonville tomorrow, so it was time to go for a walk.
Found this cache at 1345hrs and onto the next.
Too hot today for this kind of walking. With no views, just the warmth of the bush, no animals (all shading), no birds; I had nothing to take my mind of the heat and the slog. Got round the six and now have to work on seven.
Thanks for this cache and the series as well as some serious brain strain;
cheers OldSaint.

Hi barad bunch.

Found this cache on a walk with a friend (semi muggle) after work. The walk was certainly worth while, finding all six first stage puzzles. Lucky I have now calculated with them the answer to number seven, so another walk has been set up to look for this one.

Most of the puzzles were reasonably easy, although I did get a hint from barad bunch for acgt as the hint made no sense at all. In the end I stumbled on to the solution after a nudge in the right direction. Even then I had slightly the wrong answer due to too many digits.

Thank you for the series of puzzles and the caches not vey close to home.

By the way I love the rock piles that some of these caches are hidden in

I fairly quickly worked out what I thought were the correct coordinates for this one but it seems like others before me, I only had it partly right. I needed a nudge in the right direction and soon worked out what was needed. I headed off to find all the caches in the series this morning and it was a bit of a challenge initially to locate the best routes given I had no maps or familiarity with the area and I didn't fancy too much bush bashing given the weather today. However it all came together in the end. Thanks Barad Bunch for a great series.

Having solved this puzzle before Christmas we took a break from helping number 2 son with house renovations we headed of to find this cache. After a pleasant walk we made a quick find. Thanks for the puzzle and cache Barad Bunch.

This puzzle had us stumped in that we knew what it meant but was unsure of how to apply it. A gentle thump with a 100x50mm from Tim Tam to the back of the head had me looking in the right place but the answer was wrong. Found something hidden away and bingo! the answer is correct. Today we found the cache, grabbed the info and off to the next one.
TNLN, thanks for the cache

Second of the day for Team Tweeti and Team Swampy's Kalang Kaper. A slightly longer walk this time, but the pusher kept going forward, and it was quickly located, information extracted, log signed and all replaced. Onward to the next one..

This puzzle was a real problem for me.
A week ago I worked out the first set of wrong coordinated using one theme then the second by tweaking it.
After a lot of thought and another KK cache found I told BB what I was doing and he replied forget that try this.
A lot more searching of the net and another KK cache found and I was a lot closer but I was still in trouble. BB offered another hint and I had another set of coordinates, geochecker said SORRY but I was convinced they were right, so today I went for a walk and found nothing.
After another hint from BB geochecker said SORRY to two sets of coordinates but I was convinced I was right so off for another walk in the same area this time I found it.
TFTC and help.

18-Dec-11
As mentioned in my DNF log, as soon as I saw the title, I knew the general theme, and after reading the description, knew what I had to do.
Or so I thought!
After another search in daylight, I emailed BB to conform my coords were correct, and got the reply that they were not.
I had fallen for a mistake that others had fallen for on one of my caches, leaving me feeling more than a little stupid.
As penance, I re-solved the puzzle with pen and paper, before going to the new (prettier) GZ and finding the cache.
Thanks, BB!

When I saw the cache name (on my phone in the middle of a looong ride), I was sure I knew the subject of the puzzle. As it happened, it was much more straightforward than that.
Searching after midnight on a dark night, I found a sleeping echidna, and inquisitive barred bandicoot, but no cache.
I'll return in daylight when I get the opportunity.
