Over on Waiheke with Vistra for a few days. Ventured out to Stony Batter to grab a few caches and enjoyed our wander around the rocks. Quickly worked out the answers needed and have sent them to the CO though a message. Tftc
TaurusSix and I are in New Zealand for a three weeks holiday. We love New Zealand and have had lots of wonderful experiences here previously. This time we have decided to focus our attention on three destinations for one week each, all in the North Island. The Coromandel Peninsula, Waiheke Island and The Bay of Isles. We are very mindful of not focusing all our attention of the holiday on geocaching, however it will still play an important part. We are deliberately focusing on caches that involve some walking, great views, interesting attractions , history and general points of interest. And this will all happen in between exploring, swimming , walking, doing touristy things and relaxing .

Day 11 - Of our trip and our first full day on Waiheke Island . We decided to do the Eastern side of the Island today. Our aim was to do a nice walk, see beautiful some beautiful scenery, take in some of the history and relax at a gorgeous beach and we managed all of those things. We headed to Stoney Battery, parking at the car park and taking the gentle up hill walk to the historical remains. We were mindful that there were two traditional and one earth cache there so we decided to tackle them first before undertaking a designated tour of the facility and the tunnels . The geocaches were all good hides and facts collected for the earth cache and provided extra views and or information on the area as well as the history the geology is fascinating here too. Then we undertook the tour with an excellent tour guide who provided us with history and information we would not have otherwise known, especially how close the Japanese got to the heart of New Zealand in World War Two. The tunnels were awesome as well, Wow what an amazing experience.

This was our second cache find of the day . We collected info at the first way point and then collected the remaining info at the second way point. The rocky landscape was really quite awesome. We have collected all the info and will send to CO shortly along with photo. Thanks for the earth cache funkymunkyzone

This was a fascinating place to visit for several reasons and we were surprised there weren't more people visiting. Thanks for setting up the earthcache to help us learn ore about the location.
A very interesting place to visit and observe the boulders and nearby tunnels area. Answers messaged to the CO.
We enjoyed exploring the area here, and learning the history although, unfortunately, the tunnels were not open. We have sent the answers through to the CO and are logging in anticipation of them being correct.
#940 a shaking drive out, but an awesome place with some interesting geology indeed! The rocks are HUGE, and the history is equally interesting. TFTC
Visiting Waiheke for a family wedding, doing a bit of exploring and cache hunting. Met up with DaffyNZ and explored the area. Very interesting history and views are amazing. answers sent.
Thanks for the cache

On Waiheke Island for the weekend so headed south to meet tikitour to collect some caches at that end of the Island. Love the area with the boulders and history around there. Completed the Earth cache before heading off to collect the traditional's. TFTC
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time here collecting the two traditional caches and of course this Earthcache. This was a very interesting subject which we had not come across before. Many thanks for setting this interesting Earthcache for our enjoyment.
Loved this place, lots of people here today being Labour weekend, very interesting reading the geology.
Thanks!
Thanks!
We enjoyed a great weekend at Waiheke Island with good food, nice wines and of course a few caches. Weather was much better then expected. Always interesting to learn about the geology at an Earth cache. Answers send. Thanks for the cache.
Great stones to see, big also! History is great out here.
And wenn you walk to the end you see a very special creature on a rock.

Loved this cache and the whole area and everything you taught us about it. Thanks so much for the cache.
Thanks for the fun Earthcache, have sent answers for michaelteacher and I. We probably wouldn't have thought to come and explore this area if not for the caches. The views are amazing. Cheers!
What a spectacular walk to this cache! Thanks for getting us out this way. I hope we figured out the correct answers. Hayleyfcy has sent them in for us.

My second visit to Stony Batter. The first time I was here, I was too lazy to do the EC for some reason, and only found the traditional. Now turns out that the questions for the EC were not that hard and the wp2 I visited the last time anyway, as it is where the traditional is located. Didn't even check that the last time.
The weather was perfect these days and from here we could see Coromandel, and even Great Barrier Island. And to top it all, the tunnels, that are officially closed, were, unofficially open, so we got a chance to sneak in and walk all through them, visiting all three interconnected gun pits, plotting room, magazines, and other rooms. Luckily, we had a torch with us.

Sent answers via app. Thanks for a wonderful and educational cache. I never knew about the rocks here. It is a great view too!
I found this cache together with my partner, Pityulino, during our holiday in New Zealand. Today we visited Stony Batter and also looked for the caches in the area. Thank you very much for the detailed information on this interesting geological makeup. Greetings from Hungary!
Thanks for the excuse to come visit Stony Batter. We stayed the weekend with rellies at their bach. They took an interest in geocaching and did a few with Krystal Kath & I yesterday. Good for me! but they thought the road out here was a bit too rough to warrant the visit. Actually last weekend that would probably have been true with the effects of cyclone Cook still visible on the road. How wrong could they be! Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Waiheke, and the visit here to Stony Batter was the highlight of the trip. Answers sent to FMZ. TFTE and a FP from me
Answers sent to CO. Such a neat history here. I hope they open the tunnels for tours again soon!
Really nice place and easy enough earth cache. Without caches we would probably have missed the site. And due to Christmas we had the whole site to ourselves Thanks for the cache.
#3253 - After taking the short walk from the car park we found all the details, we also did the walk around the old gun placements. TFTEC
Traveling in Aus and NZ, this was one of the caches we logged on our journey, TFTC

thanks for another great earthcache of yours, and yes, i knew so little about this specific geological happening that the following 2 evenings were blocked with reading ..... love it!

Staying in waiheke for 2 nights so we are planning to collect as many caches as possible. Started the adventure with this earthcache. Views were amazing on this lovely sunny spring day. Little lambs and calves were all around, very picturesque!

This was my first mystery cache and I'm really glad it was an earthcache about the stoney batter boulders. It was very interesting to read about the boulders and their odd formations. Tftc!! Email has been sent.
We were out exploring this end of the Island with EIR-0T having some R&R as a family and caching as we went... almost getting lost in the views and we missed a few caches, but not this one.... it was going to help us with our Road trip 15.....
I love the concept of the Earth caches and their educational aspect and this one was no exception....
All info has been submitted to the CO...

Really glad to get up close and personal to these magnificent rocks but it was "hold your hats" today due to the wind. Message sent to CO. NINO TFTeC
Enjoyable walk out to Stony Batter with Gorby, Rebel98, Rustynz to complete this earthcache, unfortunately the tunnels were closed today, battled the wind to find the information. Thanks for another informative earthcache.
I was so glad to come here and check out these amazing rocks. I did so with some great company, i.e the rusty the rebel and the urban. Wind was blowing like anything, still we battled on. Thanks to rebel and rusty for coming along again, they have already done this cache but tagged along for another adventure. Info was soon at hand and then some fun fotos! Pity about the tunnels being closed, maybe another time.
On Waiheke Island for the Easter weekend and decided to collect a few caches.
Weren't anticipating the walk but didn't take too long to secure all the data.
Logging now to keep finds in order and answers will be sent to CO tonight.

My muggle husband and I enjoyed our walk to visit this interesting spot and pick up a couple of caches. Thanks for setting this Earthcache.
Decided to get out and locate the last of the caches we had not found on Waiheke. Decided to also do this earth geocache before we headed to Man O War Bay for a bite and a wine. As always out here, very tranquil and fantastic views, not to menbtion, the amazing geology and the history.
On the island for a short but sweet holiday. Went up here for a look and thought we'd get the cache too - unfortunately my phone dats wouldn't load so couldn't see the questions! Did our best to remember what the questions said and enjoyed the views
THis was a secret getaway weekend for Mrs Dragon who in a fit of generosity allowed me to get in a spot of caching as it met both our needs.
It had been 20 years since Mrs Dragon had been here and I'd never looked around.
We took the opportunity to have a good look around and make the most of the day. The weather stayed fine, we grabbed some great caches along with enjoyed some great food and drinks at out of the way spots while exploring the Island
This was the fourth cache for the weekend
Thanks for the placement and cache

Out on Waiheke Island for the day with chosen1978, Butchie Bum and us. Once we had the rental car it was off to conquer an island. Answers e mailed to owner on behalf of us all. Amazing place to visit and spectacular views from both waypoints. Thanks for bringing us here.
Looked forward to this one since starting to plan for the trip north. Stunning location, scenery, both land and sea and interesting historical interest. Logging find with Mrs Team Welsh and Butchie Bum, TFTEC!
At Waiheke for the weekend, and decided that the tunnels were worth and return visit, and whilst nearby we should do a few caches. Enjoyed exploring the boulders and learning about there formation. Thanks again for the cache.
We are here to look through some tunnels! but an Earthcache needs to be done first. Lots of climbing over rocks and photos taken. These boulders are amazing! Thanks for the cache and bringing us here.
Decided very spontaneous on Saturday evening to head out on Sunday to Waiheke Island. Turned out I selected a perfect sunny day to explore the Island. Enjoyed the earthcache learning about those special stones. Hadn’t had a possibility to lick the stones as I was savoured by them first. Proof in picture . TFTEC
Totally awesome day out today - cloudless blue sky and no wind. We explored all the tunnels and gun emplacements and then did the geology lesson to follow up. Stunning views and an interesting place. Thanks for the EC. Logged with permission.
Found orginally as part of phasevisitor team, now created own account, re-logging as yorkshirekiwi83.
We headed across to Waiheke Island today with a plan to do the sculpture trail and to bring up our 2,000th cache somewhere on the island. We've been around the tunnels near here once before, but re-visited Stony Batter today to pick up the caches here. A nice wander around an interesting spot. Answers emailed to owner. Thanks for the Earthcache!

A great earthcache in an interesting place - the last earthcache I did was with similar boulders but they were in Mynamar but those were sacred and covered in gold. t4tc
Out and about on Waiheke for the weekend hoping to clean up all the new and unfound caches since our last visit just over a year ago. Headed back to Stony Batter to finalise this new earthcache that wasn't here on our last visit.
Parked up and enjoyed the walk to GZ before it started to get really hot! Gathered up the required info and enjoyed the views. Thanks for the geology lesson and for bringing us back out this way again! Permission to log verified from cache owner. TFTEC!

Family trip to the island today, took the car so we were able to get a few caches done while exploring the island. Thanks for this EC, great rock formations and lack of muggles made for a very pleasant trip.

We had been through the tunnels and gun emplacements on a previous visit when it was free, so instead of spending any money here we drove down to Man O'War Bay and had lunch at the winery.

It was a lovely sunny day to visit this earthcache and we enjoyed the walk up and the views from Stoney Batter. A great spot with some interesting history, both geologic and human. The tunnels weren't open today so we will have to return sometime to explore those. Answers have been sent. Thanks for bringing us here.

Have all answers, except the answer of waypoint 2. The App on my friends phone didnt show us this point. So I was looking at the first given COs. And we found a little metal plate there with six numbers. We thought that these numbers were waypoint 2, but guided us into an unreachable spot . Recognised that it couldnt be waypoint 2 and drove back to Auckland without success . TFTEC
Found it, until we needed to answer questions about waypoint2 which was not shown on my phone (using geocaching-app). little bit upset cause we couldnt finish the earthcache!
Came over to the Island for the weekend to try and get all the caches that have popped up over the past couple of years.
It was a very popular place today.
Photo to follow.
Cheers for the cache.
