15 July 2023 13:52 TFTC Skindo for placing this cache, number 959 of yours for me. Loads of cars parked here today, but fortunately everyone was off enjoying the gorge, so I was able to give this a much better search, which paid off! Log paper was total mush, so replaced with waterproof paper. Tftc, glad to have this one off my DNF list!
Had a quick look, but ran out of time (and if I'm honest, brain power) to have a proper search. Will be back.
After the Mega it was my desire to walk the Waiohine Gorge track to find one of the older caches. I parked nearby and as I put my boots on I searched for this one. Soon had it in hand. Love these projects. I have had some involvement with the release of NI robins and Kokako onto Mt Pirongia. Thank you for the placement.
#5981. Been looking forward to another outing in the Wairarapa. This time I am hoping I might crack the 6000 cache find mark. Its not getting easy to do anymore as most of the simpler to find park and grabs have been picked up on past trips. The unfound ones are now on bush tracks or in the north of the region or cryptic hides. Still a few scattered ones to mop up. I was up here at the campground in January, tramping into T2. Not sure why I didn't do this cache at the time. Today it was quickly found thanks to the hint. The outer plastic bag was wet but the log was still OK inside. Signed the log book and replaced the cache as found. Thanks for the cache skindo.
Quick find. There are a heap of cars parked here.... trappers. Glad we did not meet them coming out as we were coming in as it's a very narrow road. Tftc
Decided to go somewhere special for the weekend so a trip to Totara Flats to get T-2 was planned, First cache of the day and a good start before heading off into the valley. TFTC
An easy find after an overnight walk to Cone hut, Tutuwai hut and out over Cone saddle. TFTC
This time there were no muggles at GZ. Quick grab to get the soaking wet plastic bag, and signed a surprisingly dry-ish log. Thanks!
7763. A quick and easy find on a very hot day. Didn't use the GPS for any of the caches - just instinct and experience. Thanks. Rodney.
Out this weekend tramping in the Tararua Forest Park via the Waiohine Gorge and Mount Holdsworth. Nice and quick find here, tftc!
After the visit of the Swingbridge we found this Cache.
Thanks For The Cache and many greetings from Germany.

Day two of a two-day caching trip in Wairarapa. Quick find after a good walk in as the road was close with a slip. Thanks for the cache.
11.00am Reasonably quick find once we got here. Road partially washed out a few hundred metres back.

11:16 AM Just made it here as the road has a bit of a washout and the rental van didn't like the terrain.

A nice quick find as we pulled in to the campground ready to pitch tent and enjoy the bush. TFTC!
Found on my way back from an early morning jog up the Waiohine. It was raining when I found it, but the cache and log are nice and dry.
Thank you

On our way here we came across a stranded German visitor who had a flat car battery. Luckily we had jump start cables and were able to get him going. Quick find. TFTC.
Before I started to a great hike today, I had a short look at this nice cache and also the interesting informations on the boards nearby. And I found it fast! It was the upbeat to a very, very nice day: Walking through Waiohine gorge and getting T 2, one of the oldest caches of NZ.
Thanks a lot for the cache.

Ninalila and I spent some time on the East Coast. During our trip we found a few boxes but it wasn't our main activity.
We discovered so many beautiful places during these days, sunny or rainy day
We logged with our team name : lekiprokos
Thank you to all owners for the caches and the discoveries.

On the way from the East Coast to Wellington, fefe.adrien and I spent few days in the Waiohine Gorge in order to see the longest swing bridge of NZ and have a look on the beautiful river gorge. This place was quite lost, wild and without people.
Easy to find this cache, hint is clear.

Log damp and hard to sign, has fallen into multiple pieces and plastic bag torn as well.
A long time since this was found, but cache is still tucked away and quite hard to spot: I missed it on my first search and when I spotted it second time around couldn't understand how I'd missed it. Anyway, log signed with difficulty as it is damp and falling apart. TNLN TFTC

DAY 16 - From East Cape to South Cape/Wellington
My second day in NZ - started the tour from Auckland over the East Cape to the most southern point of the Northern Island.
NZ is very beautiful, I really enjoyed to be there.
Took the change to grab some challenges and other caches along the route!
TFTC and best regards from Germany

On the way back from heading up the Waiohine Gorge to find T-2. Thought this one shouldn't be to hard, but it took a few minutes of probing around to lay hands on it. Nicely tucked away, thanks for the hide.
Found at last. It's been a long time since I last looked for this one and as it turned out, I was in the right spot. However, it took agcnz's torch & experience to reveal it.
TFTC - number 3 for the day after a 10-hour tramp up to the mouth of Totara Creek at the top end of Totara Flats.
TFTC - number 3 for the day after a 10-hour tramp up to the mouth of Totara Creek at the top end of Totara Flats.
Found on a tramping trip from Holdsworth to Walls Whare with four St Orans doing a Duke of Edinburgh Bronze expedition. Sleet and very low temperatures around - 5C. TFTC
Queen's Birthday weekend and a start to winter caching, time spent in the Wairarapa. Now how could you beat that? Try finding some caches too!
Did the walk in, the road is a goner, and happy to be here.
Straightforward find, much as we would expect; cache in order, log signed, safely re-hidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

What should have been a quick easy park and grab became a bit of a mission after we discovered a huge slip blocking the road! We managed to pick our way over the slip by foot and on to the cache site. Quick find but some very muddy footwear to show for our efforts. A fun adventure TFTC.

A quick find with me spotting and 1Grunta doing the reaching. Ready to head up the valley with 1Grunta, Troodles and Streetwalker in search of T-2. TFTC !
We knew where it was, just a matter of reaching it.
I provided the hand, Broadbridges used his eyes.
Together we finally got the cache out.

Not too many campers around this morning, good hiding place easy to find with out being too obvious
Too hot to be in the garden, so what does one do? Go geocaching! And after finding the first three, I decided to visit the Waiohine Gorge was in order (after all I was close by) so off I went. The lovely kaka. Didn't see/hear any, but most worthwhile project. TFTC.
An interesting and worthy project and a lot if cars parked here today. TFTC skindo
Found with chucky3 and pipistratus before heading into the Tararuas for the weekend. Thanks for the cache.
Awesome new location, never been into this gorge before. Picking up scouts. TFTC
Quickly found at the completion of a tramp with Belmont Scouts from Kaitoke to Walls Whare. Lovely to have a nice easy one once the heavy pack had been removed from my shoulders and dropped to the ground!
TFTC!

This cache was found as part of my epic as move down south to Christchurch from Auckland - A drive that involved around 3,000km, 350 caches, 14 days, and a bit of a detour through East Cape, Gisbourne, Napier/Hastings, some back roads in the Wairarapa, Cape Pallisier and Nelson/Tasman as well as every CANZ cache along the way that I was still missing. (Hence my excuse for the not as interesting log as I usually try to make mine.) But thanks to every awesome amazing as cacher that placed caches along these roads, you made my trip awesome, and very cache happy!

Thanks for the cache, quick find on a trip into the Waiohine Gorge, beautiful day tho' a bit windy.
A nice spot and interesting project - will have to come back here for a walk sometime soon. TFTC and the excuse to visit here.
#3932. Not sure whether we found this before or after Bruce. If before, sorry it rolled away. If after, thanks for putting it within reach. TFTC.
There were a few cars and muggles around, but we were able to search without being noticed.
TFTC.

This cache took me a while to track down. I circumnavigated the structure, feeling in the possible hiding places without success.
I then put an article of clothing, that I didn't mind getting grubby, on the ground so I could lie down and shine a torch. Sure enough, the cache seemed to have rolled away. My arms were just long enough to retrieve it. I was soon able to complete the paperwork and return the container to an easier to get to place.
It was still quite icy at this site in the early afternoon.

Plenty of cars in the car park, but no one near GZ. Quick find, SL, then had a read of the info board. Good luck to the bird life. TFTC.
Found after a day tramp into Cone hut and Cone saddle with the Thursday tramping group from the Manawatu Tramping and Skiing Club - 15 of us in the group. We enjoyed excellent weather and the birdsongs were quite noticeable at times. A pity that the next cache at the swing bridge is still out of action. TFTC.
A nice quick find and rather timely as the place was swarming with air force cadets setting up camp when I returned from my swing bridge visit.
Quick find on a sunny Sunday afternoon, hopped to add tb sun sand and water in here but didn't fit, will have to find another one to put in. Thanks
Reasonably quick find here. Good to see that there is a big effort being put into predator eradication in this area. TFTC
Found on an early morning caching expedition before some work commitments in Martinborough. TNLN SL TFTC
At the road end ready for a tramp into Totara Flats. This project is so worthwhile, hope it is a success. TFTC
Found this cache with Kiwi Explorer on a most enjoyable and productive three day caching raid in the Wairarapa. Apologies in advance for the rather template state of this log. We found over 200 caches in our visit which has left me with rather vague and blurred memories of some of them. Anything that really stood out will get a special mention. End of the road indeed! A long and winding one but it must be the start of some great adventures up into the forest park. TFTC, Biggles.
Found while touring the district with Biggles. Awesome area so glad we made the trip up here today. I've never seen a Kaka but I have heard them flying above me in the bush. TFTC
Decided to walk to this one from the gates as we were unsure of the road for our campervan. As it turned out the road wasn't as bad as we feared but all the same we think we enjoyed the walk more than we would have the drive for the last bit.. Were surprised just how many vehicles were up here when we arrived. Quite a few people about. We read the interesting information boards at GZ, and one kept reading to provide cover for the other who made the grab. Thanks.

TB Visit. Had hoped to drop the SpeedRacer geocoin in here, but it didn't quite fit, so it made a visit instead.
It took slightly longer to find than it should have, there were plenty of muggles around and it was tucked quite a long way back.
Grabbed right under the moses of muggles standing not 2m away. Found with Cathew Nut and NZABic.
