Easy find after I got my breath back. It was out in the open so now safely restored back under the rock. TFTC
#369.Saw a hawk as I gauzed over the glorious views of the South Island. Appreciate the new log book to sign off Trancer.TFTC.
Was wondering if today was the day to go back up or not as the weather was dodgy looking and could see from my house that the top of Rangituhi was enveloped by cloud.
It could mean I'd get wet up there, but I wasn't sure and decided to find out.
Today, I took the gravel road up as last time I came from the Spicer track.
My legs still remember that way, lol.
The walk-up was quiet and only saw 2 people on their way down.
Once I got near the top, the clouds began obstructing my view in front and behind me.
Visibility was maybe 200m max, which is fine.
While I didn't think I was wet, I indeed was. I guess clouds are made of fine droplets of water, and my vest started to dampen. I guess my other clothes were just absorbing it.
After about an hour or so, I was at GZ.
Things were almost the same as I left it last week. Only of course this time, the cache was where it was meant to be.
Signed the fresh log.
Thank you again, Trancer, for sorting this one out.
Cheers.
Sleepy was here!

A bit of a multi-purpose mission on Rangituhi today with investigation of this cache being one of them. Things didn't look great at GZ with the cache certainly not where it should be. Had a bit of a look around to see if I could find it somewhere else and spied a peek of blue in a strange place. Is that it? Turns out yes! The cache got pretty manky in its incorrect spot so I replaced the container and put it back where it should be under the rock that was still there. There is a new log in there too but the old log is also in there for prosperity. There's something about a nearly 12 year old cache with its original log which is kind of cool. A great day to be up here.
Tried this one again today to no avail.
I'm about 90% certain this is missing.
Cheers.

Unfortunately, it seems the overgrowth here may require a machete to get through.
Nice spot to duck out of view while cyclists whiz past. Great views today! Cheers
Had lunch on the sheltered side by the fence. Strong cool SE wind. Then a quick find here and down on the Seven Pines track.

Tftc. Bit of debate in our group of which point is Colonial Knob, here or the trig?
With the days drawing towards their shortest, it can be harder to get out and about for a good bout of caching. I knew I needed to get one really solid day in during May, so put the call out to see if anyone else would be interested in a raid on Tawa.
A few parties showed interest, but in the end it was just The Seagnoid and I that parked up at Brasenose Place and then spent over 9 hours tramping a basic 'Figure of 8' along the bushwalks that border Broken Hill Road and on to the slopes of Colonial Knob Scenic Reserve, getting over 40 caches each with just a couple of DNF's along the way.
Colonial Knob is a place I've only ever been to on a couple of previous occasions, and the last time was before Geocaching even existed! So when we seemed to be making good time on our loop walk it wasn't a hard decision to come up here to see if we could find these caches. I've never approached it from this track, so that aspect was new to me today.
As we approached GZ, a couple of Muggles also arrived nearby from the opposite direction. Luckily they didn't seem particularly interested in what we were doing so we could retrieve the cache without much fuss. There were no issues encountered with the container or the log, which was soon signed and replaced exactly as found before we headed off to the next one.
Thank you for setting up and maintaining this cache

Without having read the cache description I thought the title might refer to this site being a aeroplane comms site. Some of the antenna are rather long for plane comms, although others look about the right size. Maybe the low freq antenna are for relay comms back to the airport. Didn't see a sign on the site, but then we didn't walk around the whole place. Nice views from here.
After trolling Facebook looking for a place to live, I saw that TwigNZ was looking to a group to do the Tawa "figure 8". I had a spare day, so why not. After 9 hours we found over 40 caches on the slopes beside and up to Colonial Knob. I completed today's objectives (find a cache for my streak find 3 caches to get my finds to 10 finds per date, a puzzle and an "other" for my puzzle and other dot days) and also found some archived caches, a cache released today (third to find), a geocacher, hardly any people and three trees (also some more trees...).

Extremely windy here today. Great views. Cache very well hidden and in good order. Tftc
Thanks Hurricane Luke for placing this cache
It was amazingly dry inside considering the environment and it's almost 10 years old!!
Added an extra plastic bag anyway as the current one is a bit ripped.
TNLNSL TFTC +FP for the location!!

A stunning day to be up here and the views were truly spectacular. Cache was a quick find. TFTC
Came here to document the hide to ensure any future maintenance I might perform preserves the character of the original cache. Was frankly amazed to see this is pretty good condition having had no maintenance in 9 years. None required today and none performed.
Found on our TA thru-hike. We can hear the city, but can only see fog today.
Found with J&Scacher on a Christmas afternoon climb. Great views of Transmission Gully from here. TFTC.

A beautiful day for a walk. I had packed the coats for a Northerly but we were quite glad of a little wind to cool us down when we go to the top of the hill. TFTC.
A quick find thanks A herd of cattle was in the shade of the nearby building and not in the least bit interested in moving away Glad the cache was not in there TFTC
Super windy place today! Found during hiking Te Araroa trail. Thank you for a nice cache
Find #2925. Decided to take on the challenge of a walk up to Colonial Knob and back via Spicer Link, starting and ending on Raiha Street. 14km approx, total ascent 682m. A windy NW day so walked the anti-clockwise route.
Although this used to be owned by me and Hurricane Luke, it sits on my map as unfound. So took the opportunity to change to a smiley face. Took away some extraneous items which only hold moisture inside the container. SL. Thanks for looking after this SAROC

Came from other direction so was overshoot rather than approach Quick find without having to disturb stalwart bush. Cheers SAROC!
An evil pinch climb on the bike to get up to this one but just managed to keep forward momentum. Quick find and all good at GZ.
Successful morning completing a loop over Colonial Knob nabbing a few caches along the way
Cache in good condition. Glad to be at the top, this climb never gets easier!

Love the view up here. Never really had a reason to loiter before since usually the objective is just getting here. Thanks for placing a cache here in a nice viewing spot. Awesome warm winters day.
#2494. I have the week off work which is just as well as I have a string of dot days I am trying to fill with cache finds. Today dawned sunny and fine after a lot of overnight rain. Decided at lunch time that a trip up Colonial Knob was the way to spend the afternoon. Well it is my first walk up this end of the reserve and I hadn't appreciated how much of a slog it would be. My calves certainly can feel the results of it now. After visiting Colonial Knob, I carried on to this one. Sat down out of the wind to read the hint and discovered I was right beside the cache. The logbook was dry. Signed and replaced the cache a bit more under the natural cover. Thanks for hiding it up here.
A nice find while getting some early morning exercise today. The cache was in good condition, thanks very much.
Found it with Jubey01 & vhuntley on a stunning day, overlooking stunning views of the Wellington region. After putting the cache back I had an interesting chat with the station operator who told me what the station was used for (in addition to what I learnt in the description for this cache). Quite fascinating. TFTC! A great place to go on a fine day.
Found it with " FrenchSuperTrampNiko " on our hiking Te Araroa trail

Thanks for placing the cache. Quick find although had to get the geo kid to play defense to avoid the muggles seeing me.
Walked to the top here down from Elsdon Carpark. A lot of steps, but the is worth it! Thanks for hiding.
Haven't been up this way for a few years which made a trip up here worthwhile, given all the new caches that have been placed since. Am also after a few particular terrain difficulties for a challenge I'm currently working on.
Made good use of a spare day and took advantage of a pleasant but cool day - it was nice to get to this one as I knew most of my climbing was behind me. After waiting for a few muggles to move on the paperwork was duly completed. With the gentle southerly I was able to observe a steady stream of aircraft taking their final approach.

This was my most problematic cache hunt for the day despite the cache being very easy to find. The issue was that there was a group of about a dozen muggles that were not quite out of site from ground zero. Of all the caches I planned to find today, this was the one I least wanted to have to come back for. I decided I may as well make this my lunch venue also. They were in less of a hurry than I was and I nearly gave up the waiting game. When they finally did move on, I then had the new problem of more groups arriving from both directions. Luckily, I was able to make one of the quickest find, sign and replace that I have ever done and I was able to leave the scene undetected. One good thing about my unplanned stop was it gave me a great opportunity to admire the views on a beautiful day.
#1108 Walked to the top of the hill this afternoon with a muggle friend. She was interested in the hides but not converted. Yet. Nice way to stretch the legs and on a stunning afternoon. Quick find and a few moments to take in the view and then back down the hill. Great spot, TFTC!
nicely hidden! thanks for the cache! haha look behind us and there is a cow following us
Found on a walk from Colonial Knob to Mt Kaukau with a local tramping club. A fine winters day with magnificent views in all directions. TFTC
Great and interesting information! Plenty of planes approaching the airport from the north this morning (around 7.30 on Sunday). GZ was out of the brisk and chilly southerly wind just enough to make it a very pleasant stop!
Forth nice minion found while out walking Colonial Knob with Belmont Scouts, Jax479, CaliguliaNZ & orrsum4sum TFTC

4 of 8 collected on a trip around the walkway, first time walking around this one, quite steep in places and very pleased to get to the top. Pleased that this was the end of the uphill. Picked up travel bug and left a minion. SL TFTC
#592 Found this on day 77 of Te Araroa. Great views, on to Mt Kakau after this summit. TB in.
We approached from the other side, so we had started to descent to get this cache. Funny, only the second time that I've ever summited Colonial Knob! Great views, TFTC
2nd find on my walk aorund colonial knob today. Interesting infos about the airport. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
Came on a walk after work and quickly found the cache. Glorious views today, and enough wind to provide some relief from the sun. The expanse of sea looks amazing with the sun going down. Hadn't been up here for a year (before I was geocaching) and will have come again soon using another route to get some of the others.
Found as part of our Colonial Knob challenge day. This was find number 5.
Cache in order, log signed; then safely re-hidden, just as found.
Retrieved GC Cairns City Catchup
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too

Enjoyed an afternoon walk up to Colonial Knob although by the time I got to the top it was rather cool as the result of an unpleasant southerly wind. This was the last of five caches located up the hill. Straightforward find before quickly heading back down. #422. TFTC.
Nearly there and not too windy. The cloud has also risen. All in all a good day. TFTC
Was going to do the circuit and find all the caches up here but alas the conditions were against me. I could barely see 5m in front of me let alone the runway. Had to go back down the way I came but will come back on a better day to collect the others.
Log signed & cache safely returned although I didn't like the big spider also hiding under the rock.

Hi, I found it during nice Saturday's trip around Colonial Knob Walkway. I like this a view. Thanks
Not quite a final approach for me as I was on my way down.
What a great area to explore.

Fantastic views, on a(nother) sunny day. Could clearly see the South Island on the walk along the ridge. We could see some muggles hanging about the area, but as we approached, they left .
Cache was a quick find in the obvious spot, Thanks for bringing me here.

#5030. Interesting background in the cache description, and a quick find by Troodles at GZ. When heading back to the track I looked up and noticed a cycle-muggle had quietly arrived and was sitting 10m or so above us. TFTC.
Dropped of Little Post Box, after another visit to this lovely part of the North island. Awesome views today!
Couldn't see much through the cloud which made this cache pretty cool being what it is . TFTC.
Got to the cache site just as the sun was setting and the full moon rising, a wonderful sight -nothing +butterfly patch
Rather interesting information about this site, and great views today. Enjoying the loop walk and so are many others today. TFTC
Found after a short search and just before a large crowd of muggles appeared - phew ! TFTC and the excellent view.
