It is with sadness that we have decided to put this cache to rest after 2 1/2 years of challenging and rewarding searchers from near and far. In that time, the tree has had a lot of visitors, both geocachers and muggles. We are conscious of the effects these visitors can have on the tree and want to spare it any damage. Our warm thanks to the many people who logged their finds, described their hunts, to those who gave it a good try and kept returning before they were successful, for the lovely photos and the favourite points!

Back out again to have another attempt at this magnificent tree. Found remnants of of the cache and a piece of the log on the ground. Replaced with a temporary log and rehid and sent a pic to CO so they can find it.
A fav point from me anyway as this tree is just spectacular!

Thanks suss vulture for the find
Log signed & replaced. TFTC & smiley face Smile

Received bad news. Will disable and re-think this one as we don't want the tree to suffer. Thanks to the teams who found it today for alerting us.

This one has us stumped... Looked for a good while before calling it quits and moving on. Will be back as this one seems to be everyone's favourite!

12-May-14
What a stunningly beautiful tree! Even if we didn't find it, still glad we came here. Looks like locals love the tree too, from the cushions at the base of the tree. If we had more time up our sleeve we may have found it but unfortunately had to move on pretty quickly. Will definitely come back another time to give it another attempt.

27-Apr-14
We liked this one and it will be joining our Fav List.

One of two caches of the day. Found with little blue hen who would like the tree transplanted to home. Found after about three minutes search. Great camo and a fabulous site for a cache. A favourite added.TFTCSL

Here with Eudes after cycling the G2Q, and getting some food in. We looked at this amazing tree, and just after my phone rang with the offer of a sag wagon from the other half of the crew that had taken the soft option back to Drysdale, Eudes had the 'eureka' moment as I accepted the even softer option of the sag wagon pickup, and Queenscliff BBQ with the LZZ team. Couldn't persuade Eudes to join us and he pedalled off after signing the log at 3:54pm. This one's definitely worth a fave point.
thanks suss vulture

After a couple of days on the rail trail with Alsume and LinearZZ and some food and drink finally in the belly, we mosied on up to this one for a look before finally parting company. This one certainly earned its difficulty stars and just as I was about to call it a day/weekend and start the haul back to Geelong, there was the cache at 15:55.

Very nicely done. Big Grin

TNLNSL, although our BYO pen geocoin had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks suss vulture.

Some might call it luck from looking in the right spot from the right angle that we found this within only a couple of minutes of arriving at GZ. We'll call it good cachesense and skill - we're modest like that Cool

We were fascinated by this wonderful, almost magical tree and all of us, not just the geokids, could have spent hours exploring and playing in this tree - if only it was in a park instead of sandwiched between houses and a road. The location alone earns a favourite point from us.

Thanks suss vulture

Well, well, well. My fourth time here and still no luck. I will try again.

29-Mar-14
A quick look today and no luck. We will be back.

22-Mar-14
Welfare check today revealed that all is good, cache is exactly in the position we left it at the last maintenance visit.
Btw, traces of blue tack are not related to our hide! Good luck. And please keep logging DNFs if you cannot find it so that we keep checking.
Most importantly: ENJOY THE TREE!

18-Mar-14
Spent a good 30-45 minutes here. After 2 PAF I still couldn't find it. Sad onto the next

22-Feb-14
Staying at ocean grove for the weekend, with the Happy chappies,
we headed to Queenscliff for the morning,

We tried this one as we were leaving town, with both of us searching for a while we eventually gave up,

We did find a blue tack hanging there, so we were wondering if it was still there [:x]

22-Feb-14
Ilovedrwho said it all. Despite a remarkably fascinating location, no cache for us today.... No surprise, given the multitude of potential hidey holes.. And after spotting what may have been a sign of a missing cache (although only a slim chance of that), that took the final wind out of our sails and we headed off.

Still, thanks for showing us something incredible we would've missed otherwise!

We had a bit of time this morning before we caught the ferry to Sorrento. Checked out this cache and gave it another fresh log.
Enjoy!

Slink1 and I decided to tackle the Bellarine Rail Trail this weekend so with minimal preparation we decided to pack up the car and head off to Geelong. We set off and enjoyed the variety of hides and as with all caching some presented more of a challenge then others. We completed most of the trail but had to give it away when the light left us. We tackled the remaining few in the morning. Thanks to suss vulture for the care and effort in placing these

11-Jan-14
Another weekend in sight with Dunko and I discussing possibilities, the Bellarine Rail Trail was
mentioned as a what if and sounds like fun. Winner! so Saturday morning we set off, arrived at the mid trail point as a starting location with the idea of heading to Queenscliff then if all went well go back towards Geelong such a great mix of challenging caches along the way and are a credit to the cache owners. A big thank you to suss vulture for the effort and placement of this cache

In the area for a concert with Geopr1ncess, we had some time to kill before the band kicked off so we down the street to find this cache. The tree is amazing! We searched for a little while and were very impressed with the cache when we found it. We signed the log and headed off for a night of amazing music! Thanks for the cache suss vulture.

08-Jan-14
Found this cache while waiting for the Little Stevies concert to start last night. Came down with Pathfinder24. Amazing tree with loads of cachable nooks and crannies! P24 did find it though and we were delighted with the camo job! Thanks very much for this one!!

Found at 14:22
I've searched this tree once before albeit briefly. With more time today and with extra eyes searching we gave it a good going over and were about to give up when I spotted the well camo'd cache. I should know by now not to get preconceived ideas of what a cache is.
Thanks suss vulture for the cache and the photo opp with the kids. A fav for the hide.

03-Jan-14
Looked, sesrched and looked again but no luck. Not helped by the phone having difficulty with GPS around the tree. But hey, what a great tree that I would have otherwise missed seeing. TFTC

Arrived in queenscliff with the family this morning for the Buried treasure 111 - Scattered gold Event and decided to grab some local caches while we were here. We tried to find this one but the iPhone was having trouble with reception. We left and then returned a short time later to try again. This time geo-husband gave it a go and came up with the goods. Loved the ingenious cache container. A favourite from us. Thanks for bringing us to this magnificent tree and cache.

Looked for half an hour before the light faded, examined every strand and root. Not thinking broadly enough I suspect. Great spot though!

26-Dec-13
Found on a enjoyable day out with our friends (and the cache owners), suss vulture. Another great SV cache across from this great building. However - we probably wouldn't have found it without SV's guidance. Parked at TREEmason's Hall, then the search started. Such a cool fig tree, never seen ANYTHING like this before though. Looked for a few minutes with a simple mindset, then SV confirmed that the cache actually wasn't where it was supposed to be. So they joined in the search as well! After a few minutes, they spotted it. I've gotta say, that is an amazing hide that blends in well with it's surroundings. Favourite point coming your way. They replaced it in the correct position and also replaced the log because it was getting weary. TFTC SV and thanks for the great day out.

With the mercury expecting to hit 40 today it was decided that Nut bear and I should hit the high seas and venture over to the other side. We have been here plenty of times but never as cachers and always enjoy this area very much. With no one around today we had an uninterrupted search but despite our best efforts this one was way better than us today. Even so we were very glad you brought us here to see this beautiful tree.
Thanks suss vulture for the challenge.

What a great place for a cache of this type, it had us searching for quite some time until we stumbled onto it.

Signed the log and replaced it as close as possible to where we got it from.

Took some photos of the very unusual tree.

After the event this morning we were looking for a close by cache to do and decided to try this one. It just so happened that we were talking with the cache owners after the event and they were going to check on this one while they were out this way. Not knowing too much about cache we headed off to the gz only to be greeted by this magnificent structure. With the co looking on we searched and searched and searched some more. With the pressure on to make a find Mrs Hp managed to put a hand on this cleverly hidden cache, much to our relief. Nice job suss vulture, thanks for cache. Worth a fave for sure!

10-Nov-13
A magnificent tree and ideal spot for a cache but unfortunately there were about 3 million possible places for it and we couldn't spot it. Shame.

10-Nov-13
Found by wirdsister but we were all looking! Wink

10-Nov-13
Missed out on the morning caching adventure, but met up with lots of pirates for lunch. Said goodbye and thought i'd finally get to look for a catch, my 3rd cache for the day after the long drive and ferry trip from South Gippsland. Pulled up to see a cacher from the meet and greet wandering around looking up alot. Let the kids loose to look and wandered a bit thinking about the clue, went back to the where would I hide a cache default and thought about how I wouldn't like to have the place destroyed. Felt a tinge of oh dear as I found the cache under the new friends nose. So beautiful it is, no need to damage this magnificent host look carefully and look hard and you are rewarded. Thanks for the cache. signed log with banana 1 banana 2 and banana 3.

10-Nov-13
This one took a while, funny how the brain goes through the various gears as you step through the different search patterns and options as you keep coming up against a blank wall. I cleared the mind, looked for something a little different and was rewarded instantly. Tough!

What a clever hide! I've been making some at home like this but nothing as well crafted. Blends into surrounds perfectly. I found it in about 5 minutes but I reckon I got lucky with the sunlight hitting something that caught my eye.
Time and place is everything sometimes.
Thanks for the cache! Fav point from me! Smile

We're staying in Portarlington for a week and today we decided to head for Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale Wow what an awesome tree and a fantastic cache to boot!!! We spent quite a while looking for this one and were deliberating whether to PAF whilst reading back through logs. However the log looking helped and then JMelb spotted something but still wasn't sure and it wasn't until GMelb had a look that we knew for sure. Fave point from us. TFTC suss vulture - GJMMelb

Truly magnificent specimen here. Majestic. But no joy on the cache for bogonghazy and I today. We must have been mystified by the surrounds. I'll return again another day. Well done, too good for us today. Thanks to suss vulturefor the hunt though and for highlighting this grand old fella.

22-Sep-13
Well this was a very clever hide and very well camoflaged to suit it's surrounds. Def a fav.

07-Sep-13
Took two trips in one day and started to convince myself that I'd never find it. Knew to be gentle with tree so we didn't bash or climb and started to wonder but I refused to do anything untoward to this precious gem of a tree. As it turned out it was in front of me the whole time but so well camouflaged that it got over looked at least 20 times. Thanks for the long frustrating and finally very satisfying hunt. TNLN... Except a favourite point☺

The cache has been replaced with a hide that is similar to the previous one. We are limiting access to Premium Members only, hoping that the tree and the hide fare better this way.
Happy hunting - be gentle, please!

This cache took quite some time to locate, and my non-caching mate was getting restless but I eventually found it as the light was starting to fail. Sadly though, there was no log inside, nor lid to it, but the object really couldn't have been anything else but the cache and its camo (will send photo as proof)

02-Jul-13
No log inside, no longer a lid either (not sure if that was meant to be hanging and supporting the camo?)

02-Jul-13
Another one we need to mend. Will do as soon as we can. Meanwhile, feel free to come and admire the tree but, sadly, no cache until we have been able to fix it. Sigh ...

After a day spent running between Drysdale and Queenscliff, we visited this amazing tree. Even climbed around a bit trying to loacte it. But with help from ThePacGirl, TheSnoopy and Zak, we soon had the cache in hand.
Be careful, though, and look after the kids - we found a syringe darted into the tree so some dubious types obviously visit here as well!
A great cache in an intriguing place.
TFTC, suss_vulture.

Seeing as this cache had so many favourites we wanted to see what all the fuss was about. We weren't disappointed as this is the largest and most magnificent Moreton Bay Fig tree we've ever seen. Surprised

We searched for the cache for quite a while, doing a thorough search inside and out as there were lots of possible hiding spots. The light was starting to fade so we did a final search and to my surprise I suddenly felt the well-hidden and very inventive cache. I retrieved the container and signed the log at 4:30pm. TNLN. I then carefully returned the cache to its hiding spot.

Thanks suss vulture for the great hide. A clever cache and a spectacular tree (see photo) so it gets a fave from us too. Big Grin

Find # 2685
Date 16th Mar 2013
Time 10:17 AM

I was again without my caching wingman SedgwickDave who was still on holidays over in Perth. I decided to go solo in an area he had already hit, so the target became Queenscliff and surrounding area. My initial intention was to get five icons today, but due to inclement weather and other issues I was unsuccessful. I was also attempting to find my 2700th cache which I fell one short due to 8 DNF's for the day.

This one took about ten minutes to locate and I was trying to look as inconspicuous as possible, which was made easier with the interesting tree at GZ. A great little hide.

Thanks to suss vulture for the cache.

On a biology trip with school so had a few accomplices on this one. When jemimah was a kid she was playing on this tree when some catchers came along and found this one. Today she decided to show us and what a great cache it was Smile very clever Very Happy TFTC

10-Mar-13
Checked while in the area. All ok.

07-Mar-13
After 4 searches finally found with Timmo. Deceiving description, as one would assume the camouflage was the fibre of the tree. Would't exact say hanging either...more leaning in there. Great tree!

This was our first geocache find. What an amazing tree!. A well hidden cache. Read the description and the hint carefully then look at the tree and you will end up at the right position on the tree. Very cool.

Omg very sneaky it took ten minutes or so but it was a good find thanks

Found on a caching day out with TheFogg in her neck of the woods. From reading the logs, this looked like one that would either jump right out at us, or we'd really struggle to find it! TheFogg had previously DNF'ed it, so I was extra determined to make sure we found it today!

After giving the area a cursory glance-over, and having another look at the difficulty rating, I knew this was going to be a tough one. Pored over this tree with a fine tooth comb. And a magnet. And a torch! Eventually, TheFogg put her hand on this one, finding something I'd noticed, and dismissed. A great camo!

Signed log, and carefully replaced. Cache is in good nick. Thanks for the cache!

10-Feb-13
Great tree, one I doubt I'd have noticed if you'd not brought me here.

Had a poke around, but no joy for me today. GPS was all over the place. Half the time it seemed to be pointing to the other side of the road, which I assumed was the wrong side of the road. Maybe that's why I didn't find it.

Thanks for bringing me here.

07-Feb-13
Searched high and low without success but did find a flat black shoe lace on the 'floor'. Wondering if the cache has been taken given the last Cacher didn't find either.

Five DNG's in a row ... that was not looking good. We went to check on our hide tonight and are happy to announce that it is still where it belongs, waiting to be found.
It's always great to come back and admire this tree. And on the way back, we even saw the Point Lonsdale christmas tree in its fully lit glory. Gotta love this area!
Happy caching, don't give up on this one!
