In the general area for the ad lab, but some old Skindo caches add to the experience.
Previous logs helped with the cache location. Found in open so replaced & covered after signing away.
A small group of us from Team SEAC consisting of Keylev, Stik-A-Crane, Uncle Sam and ourselves had come down from Auckland to spend the long weekend caching in the Manawatu area. The plan was to get as many as possible. Along the way we had some great adventures, many laughs, met some interesting people and found a wide selection of caches. Signed SEAC to save space on the log. TFTC.A day out today heading up to Apiti and then back down through Pohangina. Most of us were ready to give up and move on to the next cache, but Mr Stik-a-crane persevered and came up with the find.
Located this by widening the search area somewhat.... a find is a find.....Day 3 of our caching trip to Palmerston North area with HeMaLuDy, UncleSamNZ, Keylev, and myself, signing in as SEAC or TEAM SEAC to save logbook space. A big thanks to all the CO's for cache placement and maintenance, making this trip the success that it was.TFTC.
Day #3 of the Team SEAC extra long weekend little road trip for Labour Weekend. We searched for a while with no luck. I called a DNF but then only moments later Mr Stik-a-Crane made the find...yes!!The coordinates were a little off, inside the fence. Thanks for the cache.
After a bit of hunting we found it. Approx 5 metres from the gate.Small group of caching buddies drove down from Auckland for the long weekend, and headed for Palmerston North area. Sorry for the generic posts, but we had so many caches to find.Had a great time, with so many laughs. Thanks to all the Cache owners who placed the caches. All logs signed "SEAC" or "Team Seac"
No joy for us today! Had a hunt around the trees but no luck from me
Thanks anyway

Got the day off work so decided to explore some back country roads from Pohangina to Apiti. Half this walkway is closed at present. Cache all fine. Thanks for the smiley.
I set off on an adventure of the Pohangina Valley with TwigNZ and ThatWeirdGuy04. There are some amazing views in this area and we had a great day.
Glad to find this one, and fairly quickly too, after missing it on our trip 11 months ago.
Logs were signed as either Team TST or just TST depending on available space.

I can't believe it's been almost a whole year since I last visited the Pohangina Valley. The last time I was here was in the company of Stardust718 and ThatWeirdGuy04, and so it was again today, the plan being to travel up the West side of the valley (ZigZag Road and Ridge Road) and then return back down roads taken last year in order to have a chance to avenge some DNF's from that trip.
We had great weather for our caching day, with a weak winter sun doing its best to illuminate all the varied valley views we were treated to, and absolutely no wind at all. We also pretty much had the roads to ourselves, which made parking near all the caches so much easier.
This was one of the caches previously DNF'd by us 11 months ago, so we were keen to be able to set that right today. In the end it still took us a few minutes in the failing light but eventually Stardust made the find. The log was swiftly signed (as Team T.S.T or simply T.S.T depending on log space) and we were happy to head home having converted the Blue Frown into a Yellow Smiley.
Thanks for placing this cache.

Today I was out caching with my son ThatWeirdGuy04 and one of my regular caching friends Stardust718, with the aim of travelling around the Pohangina Valley to attempt as many caches as we could manage in our day, concentrating on the Wildbore series but also stopping for any others along the way or else caught our fancy.
This was our fifth DNF for today. The 3 of us spent around 10 - 15 minutes searching a 20m radius of the posted co-ordinates without success. Plenty of trees to search, and an awful lot of leaf litter around all of them, so it's possible that we simply missed it rather than it's gone missing.
I hope to return sometime in the future to have another look for this one.

Unfortunately we couldn't locate this one after 10-15 minutes searching. However, the ground was covered in leaves and it was very damp all around so the search was going to be much more challenging than possibly at other times of the year.
For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 8 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more I decided to come back to Pohangina to finish what I had started yesterday.
It would be interesting to do the complete walk if I had another driver to bring the cachemobile down from the top.
Cheers for the cache.

Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au
If you can't make Aussie. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland. I will keep you posted in my logs.
Thanks for hiding this geocache.

thank you for these caches along our way today dodging the few showers in the area earlier in the day and stopping at Camp Rangi woods for an early lunch.

Fairly easy to find. Log pretty wet and falling apart. Replaced with waterproof log sheet.
Enjoying a trip around the country side with 2Bulbars and watcache, we signed the log BWX.
Thanks for the placement.
Thanks for the placement.
bit of a geocaching weekend for us and at times we joined forces with other teams so logs have been signed either 2 Bulbars, 2x, bwx depending on how many in the team had signed the log before.
The weekend started midday Friday and finished about 6 pm sunday. We didn't go too hard and stopped for sleeps and good meals basing ourselves in Feilding . The weather was good all weekend although it did rain a little bit at night.
Many thanks to all the COs who placed these caches making it possipble for us to enjoy our hobby.
I must say sorry for all the cut and paste but if we really enjoyed a cache I will add a bit at the start of the comment so you don't need to read right through.
Thanks to our driver who supplied the car and the good person who put a thermos and a few snacks in the car for us so we could keep our strength up

Road trip time! This weekend Team BOP consisted of Davidson Clan, TNXPro, Squirrelnutcase, FapAndGap, McJandals, NZFlossy & myself. We'd had this trip on the cards for a while but only recently had we locked in all the details. We were off to central Manawatu and we had a very narrow list of ‘must gets’ so this trip was essentially a numbers mission. We had a great time and managed just over 200 finds. Most of the caches were found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and straight forward placements although we replaced a lot of logs and a few containers as well. A huge thank you to the CO’s as this was a beautiful area to visit and there was certainly an abundance of geocaches!!
Signed Teambop. Came down to Fielding for the weekend with Philip.Perry, Tnxpro, Nzflossy, McJandals, Squirrel Nutcase and FapandGap . Staying at a farmhouse down the road from here.

On a road trip with Team BOP to Feilding. Set off Friday night and back home Sunday. Lots of caches and lots of laughs with great weather and great scenery. Thanks to all the COs for giving us a awesome trip
Team BOP on tour in the Manawatu-Whanganui Region... With Gap (of Fap and Gap), (Mr) Davidson clan, McJandals, NZFlossy, Philip.Perry, and TNXPro.
This weekend had been in the pipeline for ages. It was always going to be a mission for various team members to get coordinated leave passes... We secured accommodation in the rural heart of the Manawatu. This placed us well within reach of a massive trail of caches... We travelled in one vehicle, so our journey was filled with lots of laughs, and good times... Fortunately, the majority of caches were in place and were fairly quick to locate - thanks to straightforward hints and great coordinates. Many of the caches had not been found in a while, so containers were waterlogged, and logbooks were wet... Thank goodness for waterproof paper. A huge thank you also, to the various COs who made our weekend worthwhile... TFTC.

Team BOP decided that with the MEGA rapidly approaching, we need to boost our numbers so we could try for a milestone number at the Mega. I am approaching my 3000th cache but was still about 325 caches away from that. Reaching the milestone may or may not happen, but this weekend certainly was about the numbers. I had an initial target I was trying to beat and that was my highest number of caches found in one day and we comfortably beat that, achieving 158 caches (subject to confirmation, once I log them all).
The best way to do the high numbers is with power trails and out here, there is a smorgasborg of powertrails.
We loaded up the van, gathered up all seven of us and headed to our accomodation somewhere in the middle of nowhere, getting there well after dark. The location was convenient, as it was right in the thick of a power trail territory.
There was no splitting us up, as we only had one vehicle, so we all experienced the cache locations, some beautiful and some not so.
As with powertails we have done in the past, there was a high proportion of waterlogged caches, but unlike powertails we have done previously, we managed to find every cache and were glad to be able to clear out an area. Also, with powertails, comes cut and paste logs, to which I apologise for.
Thanks to all those CO's who have placed the caches out there. Without you, our fun road trips wouldnt exist. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and got home completely shattered. It was so worth it.

On a road trip with Team BOP, having a blast and gathering a few smileys along the way. Please excuse generic logs in advance. Many Thanks to all you cache owners for the placements. Cheers
Was in Palmerston North for work and after finishing work in Fielding, after the FTF on GC7VPDP - Wildbore 28 (Beehive Creek) I decided that since we managed to park the car within 20 metres of GZ I would check out this cache.
I was going to give this cache a miss but as I got near GZ I soon realised that the cache was not that far away.
Should I go into this walkway or should I leave it, I decided that since it was just inside the boundary I might as well give it a go.
Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then replaced the cache back where we found it. Thanks Skindo for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (13720).
When I arrived back at the car I noticed that there was a sign in the main sign stating that the walkway was closed for lambing, didnt notice the sign initially as it was not by the walkway.

Out with a fellow cacher collecting some Wildbore caches around Pohangina Village. Decided to drive here in the hope my wee ones would fall asleep. Got a general indication of where to look but it still took longer to find than it needed to. Look forward to doing this walk when the kids are a little older. TFTC
Nice quick find here while out doing the Wildbore series today with tmann421 today
Very wet under feet , thank goodness I remembered the gumboots

I had some spare time while in town visiting some of the rellies, so I thought Id do a few of the easy drivebys in the area. I had a great day and grabbed a heap of caches. Lots of damp and wet caches, but not surprising given the weather. Signed as TF or Trout-fly depending on how hard it was raining, although it cleared after lunch! Thanks to all the CO's for a great day and apologies for the generic log.
Sign said track closed due to weather damage but luckily didn't need to venture far. Tftc.
On a drive around the Pohangina valley on ANZAC day to find a few more geocaches. We weren't up for the walk, but had to grab this cache while we were passing! Didn't take us long to locate the cache. Thanks for hiding!
Looking for caches to clean up for dot days hubby remembered one he got last week whilst out doing a test drive of a vehicle that he forgot to tell me to log (I get to do the logging lol). He said there were others but this was the only park and grab he could manage and said it was quick and easy with good parking. TFTC
This was always going to be a bit of a caching trip in the company once again of HKCB. Having though about it and done a fair bit of planning over the past couple of weeks this was a chance for a reasonable clean out of an area that we don't normally get to. So with families in mind, rather than setting out on the Friday evening we left home at 2am on the Saturday morning to make our way south before either the heat of the day or there was too much traffic on the road.
Some stats for the weekend
- Distance Traveled = 1457 kms
- Petrol = 3 x Fills
- Time Away from Home = 42 hours
- Straight Driving Time = 6 hours
- Sleep = 4 hours
- Caches Found = 250
- DNF's = 3
So after a straight forward drive down here this was the first that we located of what was going to be a very long day, and followed by another very long day.
We had tried this one about two years ago (about 3am) but couldn't but came back today and soon had the find
While I apologize that these are 'copy & paste" logs, I would just like to say thank you to all the CO's that have have put out and maintained these caches for us out of 'non-locals' to find. It was a great weekend and we traveled though some amazing countryside.
A key learning from the weekend was that a Mazda CX5 is not designed to ford rivers.
So thank you for the placement, thank you for the cache.

On a weekend mission with Cats&Dragons, for a bit of a numbers run along the new trails around the Northern Manawatu area, and anything else along the way. As usual these types of trips mean maximizing caching time and minimizing sleep time. So with a 2am start time Saturday morning we left home and headed South, and not getting back home til 8.30pm Sunday night. Some numbers for the trip as I know we all like caching stats are:
* 1450km traveled.
* 286 caches found (192 on Saturday, 94 on Sunday) with only 3 DNF's
* 4 hours sleep
* With a 3 hour each way drive to the Caching area, so about 32 hours of caching in the 42 hours we were away at an average of nearly 9 caches per hour, this isn't including stopping for fuel and coffee!!!
So a huge thanks to all the CO's for the placements, and for the reason to see some more of our wonderful country, we saw some pretty amazing places. Sorry for the copy and paste logs. We signed the log books HKCD, or HKCBC&D.
Attempted this one a few years ago with C&D on our first caching mission to this area. Being very late at night and me being more or less a zombie, this one eluded us. Much more luck this time in the daylight, and being not so zombie like, searched a few spots before it was found.

Spent the morning finishing off the last of my painting and after lunch was itching to get out of the house. Decided to drive up to the Pohangina Valley and drive a loop with a number of caches I could look for. This was a quick find here and on to the next one. TFTC
I knew i had to head out this way sometime this week for work and today was the day no traffic at all today on these lovely windy roads in this beautiful part of the world. Then i finally got close to the cache which was challenging as I had no cell phone coverage and GPS was at home, I had to use my geocache eyes to senses to search the area, it didn't take me too long and i had the cache in my hot little hand signed the log cache all good here Thank you for bringing me all the way out here for anther cache, i'll have to come out for the other two as i ran out of time to locate any more and thought I couldn't get them due to the lambing season but next time I'll read the log before coming out to this area. TFTC
Yet another nice walk in my gumboots up this tranquil valley.
Thanks for the cache skindo!
Thanks for the cache skindo!
This was my second time at GZ but first time with a GPS - was looking in completely the wrong area last time. Can't wait to get back with my walking buddy and do this walk when they are up to it. Cache was replaced exactly where I found it and was nice and dry. Thanks for the cache !
Heading towards home after a great weekend catching up with old tramping and climbing mates.

Will have to walk this walkway next time we are over this way. Cache took longer to find than it should have, but gps was a bit out so had to widen search area. tftc
In Ashhurst area this morning, a nice day for a drive up the valley to Pohangina for three caches. Thanks for the cache.
Visiting a good friend in Pohangina Valley so dragged him out and about to grab some of the local caches. A nice quick find once I found a path through the undergrowth. TFTC
Found with Tramper Ted. Needed a rather intense search. Watched cattle being herded by the bridge.
Cache # 1,504 - did today with huhugrub, Crystal Fairy and TreMichLan as part of the road rally event. Took a while to locate this one - think the coords might be off by 5 metres or so, but did find it exposed on the group. Hid a little better for next cacher. TNLNSL. TFTC!
#5161. Team find with CrystalFairy, The Wandering Dragons and TreMichLan during The Great Rangiwahia Car Rally today. A short walk but a longer search. The Wandering Dragons found it in the end. TNLNSL. TFTC.
Nice wander to GZ with huhugrub, Wandering Dragons and Crystal Fairy as part of the Pohingina Valley Event today. TFTC
#6663. No time to do the walkway today, but there was enough time to cross the stile and find a cache. Nice area. TFTC.
There seems to be lots of reserves in this area, which is great. Didn't realise initially that we needed to be on the other side of the style, but Streetwalker volunteered to hunt on that side and found the cache. TFTC.
It took a wee while to find this cache, after searching through lots of leaves, when in fact the cache was not covered at all. TFTC
Quick Find by Hubby this morning - left our calling card, thanks for the cache
An interesting looking track which would make for a nice walk I would think. A great wee camping area spotted by the river here too, although quite muddy looking at the moment.

Find #1515. Found on a two day exploration of the Pohangina Valley and walking tracks. This is a lovely road to drive - very scenic with the exotic trees in autumn colour. One car parked up and could hear a dog barking up the valley. A Fonterra tanker trundled past too. GPS a bit jumpy but located the correct tree in the end. SL TFTC
Picked this one up after grabbing a couple of FTF's up the road.
Took a few minutes to track the cache down. GPS was all over the place.
Left a pet rock - a hippo. TFTC

It's along time since we have walked this walkway - must do it again. Didn't take too long to find, TFTC.
EtherDad took me on a drive with NJ and AJ.I was very upset that he wouldn't let me play in the creek!
found with EtherMiss, EnJayNZ and Andy00726 after a ~10min search.
Parked on the wrong side of the bridge
would loved to have explored the old bridge a bit more but EtherMiss would have made sure she would have got well and truly wet...

I cylced out here. Because its 30km fropm Palmy, and 30km back, I took he road bike. With my road shoes with the little cleat things that clip into the pedals. Maybe that was a bad idea... it was pretty muddy here. I found the cache by stepping on it but luckily heard the rattle of plastic before I put any weight on it. TFTC.
Found after a bit of a search, quite hard to keep ones footing here today after the recent rain. TFTC
Took a bit of scrambling around to locate the cache as the GPS signal was varying a bit but the hint gave us the clue as to where to look. We did this cache on a find afternoon after doing the Beehive Walkway which has unfortunately got very overgrown but it would make a good family walk if the track was cleared a bit. Thanks for bring us here skindo.
thought this would be easy.. found some tracks to likely spots but had no luck with this one... got well stuck on blackberry but no luck with the cache..
Introducing some potential geocachers who found it okay by themselves, but did think it a bit awkward to get to. We also enjoyed a picnic lunch at the lovely picnic spot across the road (enter through gateway by the bridge). TNLN TFTC
This one took a bit longer than expected, but eventually after some scrambling it was an fairly easy find, TFTC
