TFTC Found with andyfreya. Lovely place for a memorial. Nice view over the little township and Cemetery below.
A quick find in a beautiful spot over looking the town. Nice spot for the war memorial also tftc
Love geocaching because it brings us to places we would never have come to otherwise.
Nice walk up the hill. Enjoying my walk around Waiau. The first time I've been here since b4 the earthquake. TFTC
A nice little walk up here through the sheep. All quiet of GZ and a quick find. tftc
Great memorial placement, and loved the info boards. Thanks for taking Geomum007 and I there. Found on a lovely sunny day. TFTH
Nice walk up to here that rewards you with a great out look over Waiauthanks Hotspud
We parked at the bottom and walked up the path. A nice surprise here. The freshly shorn sheep were watching our every move here. A great place to visit. Thanks for bringing us here Hotspud
Ouch...found it....do wish people wouldn't leave their snack rubbish in geocach pots...it's not polite people!!!
Great view from here.
Great view from here.
Being ex-military I am drawn to this kind of history. Thank you for bringing us here, a great read. Certainly a warm walk up from the cemetery. Stunning views as well. Cache was on the ground but have put back in place. Not sure why people feel is ok to leave their rubbish however!!
After logging the church log we walked up the well graded track to the memorial. There are some interesting interpretation boards about the history of the local cricket & rugby teams. Then near the memorial more info. Beautiful views up here too. A quick find & sign before heading down the loop track. TFTC
Day 1 of a road trip round the South Island, and today it was Nelson to Gore Bay, where our family have hired a bach for the long weekend. So we couldn’t get everything on our trip, so I cherry-picked a list of favourable caches - letterboxes, higher fave points, but more often just those on our side of the road for the direction we are travelling. Plus, a special effort in getting most caches in and around Waiau and on the road to SH1. 17 in all found, and into Gore bay by 3pm to enjoy the rest of the day. TFTC all COs, sorry for the cut and paste, if there is anything specific about this cache it is mentioned below.
We drove through the gate by the sports ground. Quick find here, all good. TFTC hotspud.

A lovely Autumn day, the trees and all their autumn colours..we made like goats and sidled up the wee track to GZ. Tftc. Our decent was on the more user friendly path.
I am so glad this was repaired so quickly after the quakes. Love the respect that we have for those brave men and women who served so we can be free.
Did a bit of a detour on the way back to the camping ground after having tea. The ball certainly did some damage when it fell. Cache was quickly found.
Great that they repaired the memorial so well and quickly. Lovely place. NINO TFTC
Dodged the prickles & made the find! Another great view here. With Campmotherandken TFTC
I was not impressed with the path up to this cache as it was full of sheep shit and you really couldn't take a step with out standing in it. I was horrified to find droppings in the cemetery and the area around the Memorial which I find very disrespectful and shows a lack of care for these spiritual areas.
We scrambled up the hill through the long grass, spiky weeds and apple trees to finally get to the cache. Thanks for the great view, TFTC!
We took the short walk to this one on a sunny morning. What a pleasant spot with an excellent view and interesting history. Thanks for bringing us here Hotspud, another favourite added.
Stayed the night in the Motorcamp and were well fed at the local Tavern. This morning followed the historical walk around town. What a fitting memorial here with a magnificent view TFTC hotspud

TFTC......On our way to Hanmer Springs from Kaikoura and caching along the way. We are loving caching in beautiful New Zealand. A lot of “pupu” on the trail up. Visiting from Sask. Canada
2 birds with one stone here. Parked on the lower road and headed up the path to the memorial then on foot to the rugby grounds, where there was a family day and BBQ. Just as well I wasn't the stranger driving in their car into it. All good with both hides, caches in good condition and replaced as found.
Day 2 = The time has passed so quickly, the 48 hour break is over and it's time to head back to Marlborough. After all that rain last night I thought we'd need a boat to get back but no harm done and we had a pleasant day in the town doing forest walk, chips and gravy lunch, mini-golf and maze with the girls and hit the road around 3 in the arvo. Managed a modest 5 caches on the way back and a few more for the total.
This was cache number 7777, a significant milestone, or not
All good here and replaced a s found as the family waited in the car on the bridge
T F T C Hotspud, I was hoping for a Mendip dip trip but passengers would not have tolerated.
Day 1 = The forecast initially had been indicating rain all day, each day of the visit so alternative (indoors) things were planned. The reality though was somewhat different. The weather, upon waking., was an awesome cool and slightly misty start with a chill in the air and no breeze. The morning was sunny and awesome, the afternoon brought a few spots of rain and the later afternoon welcomed the rain in, and it never left! At the time of logging it has been raining really heavily for a few hours now! Yuck.

It is always great to do some geocaching in a town I haven't previously visited. I enjoyed the short walk and the view. Finding the cache was simple enough but it was a little awkward to get to.
Spent New Years Eve in Waiau so decided to go find the memorial cache before we left- such a beautiful view
T-Tech and I are travelling around South Island for 6 weeks
Last night we free camped at Hapuka, and on our way back to Christchurch we stopped for morning tea in Waiau. It is so sad to see the damage caused by the earthquake to the Cob Cottage Afterwards we took the walk up to this one. A great view of the town, and a quick find at GZ. TFTC, Hotspud.

Over from Brisbane for a number of weeks "motorhoming" around the South Island with IolantheK [^]
Now on east coast around the greater Christchurch area (with an overnight in Hanmer Springs and Kaikoura as well), before heading home, oh and grabbing caches between views [^]
Nice view from here of Waiau [^[

#14388. An impressive memorial at a spot with great views over the town. Well worth a cache. TFTC.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ en route to Hanmer Springs (via Waiau) for the weekend.
We parked by the closest access and saw the pretty amazing looking memorial on the hill. Hmmm, how to access? Spotted a goat track and took that, so our approach was a lot more exciting than the advertised 2 terrain! That's when we saw the path, so after finding the cache, took the more sedate (but much longer) way down to the car. Well worth a cache here, thanks for bringing me here and TFTC.
