After a check to how the weather would be, it was off on a 3 day trip to the West Coast, weather tunred out to be great , and a lot of great caches found-, Many thanks to all the caches placers Bitsprayer
This has been on radar and finally nearby without a caravan or boat behind !Interesting feature ex gravel extraction perhaps . Thanks
On a trip north and getting some caches for a challenge. A quick find. All good with the cache. Thanks
Heading south for a spot of work. Took this wee detour for an easy find before pushing through the moo-moos up the road.
Its a trommel. As others say, it for separates the gravel into two sizes. Those bigger than the screen and those smaller than the screen.
Some thing old & rusty nah its a machine for sizing or grading metal ..stones etc different sizes hole for assorted stones ..cache is all good thanks
Well we decided to explore this road back to the highway west. Just as well we didn't know it was a gravel road for a decent part of the road. We are still at a loss as to what the contraption in the paddock is! All ok here. Thanks for bringing us here Hotspud
Lol I love kiwi "roads" half this was pure gravel..not really great for my little Nissan cube but we reached the cache.
Thought we'd take a drive as this wasn't too far off route. Didn't realise this became a gravel road, not great for our little Nissan Cube.
Cache itself was a quick and easy find, seen on approach. Even had some friendly lady bugs on the lid. Still none the wiser on what the contraption is though.

A quick find after taking the indirect route from Hanmer! Been wanting to get this one for a while so pleased to be here! TFTC
Long drive in. An interesting machine. Maybe an original whitebait net. Could store a lot of whitebait in the hopper.
First cache for the day as we took the road less travelled back from Hanmer to Nelson. Just because this cache was on it. Luckily it was both an easy find and a nice route. SoBad did think Gold Dredge, but the other suggestions may be more likely.
Thanks.
Thanks.
We were on our way home from Hanmer Springs after being a support vehicle for the St James Multi Sport event. Spotted this on the map so a wee detour haha. What is it, well we decided it can't have been for gold as water too far away but thought it was to grade shingle or seperate clay for pottery. Great talking point. Thanks for the cache Hotspud.
I've been meaning to do this one with the kids for a while, since we live close by.
What is it? - - - I noticed some pretty good answers back a few logs so don't really have anything to add. If the world ever runs out of iron ore there'll be a great demand for unused machinery like this one .
What I was left pondering was, was there a special on concrete posts, did the boy get it wrong, did the boy get to dig extra postholes for practice, was it impossible to buy gates for the original gap???? - - - So many questions, so little time. TFTC .

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are on a 4 day exploration around Kaikoura. Our journey today takes us to Waikari and back. We are up early and move Zara to a sand pit to play with a dump truck and digger, while we run away with Toby.
What is it? Well I think it is a gravel/stone grader. The gravel is put in the hopper, which is hiding behind a mound, and goes up the conveyor belt to the drum which grades the stones into different sizes. Snagged this one but container stuffed. arranged a replacement. Cheers

It's a four-day weekend!! Taybeedragon and I headed down to Kaikoura, that destination chosen mainly because I have some unfinished business down that way. And on top of that, like everyone else, we wanted to do some rubber-necking, to check out the changes in the route south. Apparently at least two more years work before the road is declared finished. Day three: rural caching.
What is this? We think it is a grader. Rubble is sent up the conveyor and put into the rotating sieve. Fine gravel drops through the sieve into the first two hoppers, and larger material goes through to the end hopper. I would bet there is a stone crusher, out of sight behind the knoll. The container was shattered, mainly UV damage, we replaced the cache.

No idea what the contraption is. The bulls in the paddock were more interested in what I was up to. The closest was about a metre from the cache and was watching me like a hawke. TFTC Hotspud

Found with StreetWalkerNZ en route to Hanmer Springs (via Waiau) for the weekend.
We didn't see the relic until we stopped the car! No idea what it is, but always happy for an excuse to place a cache. Great to find a good sized container, but it is getting a bit brittle so will need replacing some time soon. TFTC.

#14392. We were pleased to find there was a cache on our shortcut back to SH7. An interesting relic. TFTC.
Came here this morning while it was still cool - thankfully as the temperature climbed to over 30 degrees later in the day. Way too hot for me! The cache was a quick find in the second place checked. All in good condition and I agree with previous loggers that the machine is a gravel sieve. Signed log, TFTC.
Some vey flighty bullocks in the field , so decided not to go in and look at the machine. Tftc
I know exactly what it is - a caching opportunity with an interesting feature. Can't get better than that. Looks like a bit of a work horse though. Added a bit of natural camo to make it a little less noticeable from the road. TFTC #9060
Very prickly find. enjoyed the drive. Found with michaela Algar Very interested in whatever this is. Does anyone know?
We'v no idea what it is, but it looks well used..Have enjoyed our day in the surrounding area.LTB TFTH
Pretty rusty looking heap and you just knew where it would be hidden as the paddock came into view. We like those. Thanks.
Aha, now I know what it is. this is a new road for me, enjoyed that too.
Thanks Hotspud....and greetings.
Thanks Hotspud....and greetings.
Decided to find this one on the way back to Hanmer. Easy find was nice to get out on the shingle. TFTC.
I wonder when that stopped being in use. No river for some time by he looks of it.
Really did wonder what it is but with time restraints didn't have a good look. The sheep were having fun in the paddock and so I made the find quicky and moved on. Very hot and dry round here today.
5322. On our way back to Christchurch today finding apples and other geocaching objects on the way. This was our second cache of the day. An easy find on a road we have never been down before. The object is used to sort stones/ rocks/boulders. Thanks for the cache. Rodney and Iris.
A quiet drive on a peaceful sunny Autumn day. Exploring another new area for us. TFTC
Interesting looking device. Presume around here it involves rocks but I guess others have already filled that blank. TFTC.

Yep, I concur that it is a gravel screen to sieve out the particles larger than the sieve size. The sieves can come in differing sizes.
Cheers for the cache.
A road I've travelled quite a few times now, looks like they have sealed a bit more since last time through. Cache site was getting watered by the next door sprinkler at the time, so had to dash between showers. I concur, a gravel screen long past its' prime. Cheers
That's an old sieve for separating gravel. This is a road I have never been on before. Had to stop a little bit further up the road to wait 5 minutes for a herd of cows to cross the road on their way to milking - they were in no hurry but then neither was I.
Nice quick find, getting warm here today. Quite a bit of blowover from the alps. Cheers Gav
Cruising around Kaikoura, and then off to Hanmer. Another great day, thanks for the hide.
Such an interesting relic of the past to find in this out of the way spot. Cache is all good after a few months without any finds. TFTC , Biggles.
I think it's to separate out very fine gravel. The rotating mesh barrel does the job. Now. Which way back out?
Thank you for placing this cache.

Couldn't believe that we were joint 3rd to find this cache. Such a peaceful area & those cute bovines wanted to come home with us!
TFTC. Well joint third to find - that was a surprise. Lovely drive along this shingle road to be greeted by the large metal machine and a herd of young calves who were convinced that we were their mothers.
A long detour to find this cache but well worth it. The young calves curiousity in the paddock across the road provided the best photo shot of the day. TFTC
TFTC; make sure you park right off the road as some hoon in a Pulsar came drifting around the corner and nearly collected us. The calves across from the geocache were very friendly and came up to the fence to say hi.

After our 1st FTF for the year at the nearby RSA we took a bit of a detour to this one to check it out, opened up the cache and discovered another empty logbook, will eventually catch up on logging the rest of the local finds around here as we have only just got back home after a 2 week stint in the South Island, now back to the rainy north!!
TNLN TFTC!
