Mostly only graves marked with rocks. Interesting to visit. Good sized cache. TFTC billywillysillydilly.
I was getting Creepy vibes at this cemetery the voodoo looking dolls on the graves were not helping easy the ill feeling..there was no exploring this cemetery it was a quick sign then a quick exit.
Happy International Geocaching Day!It was time to start the Great Victorian Cache Crawl and with scores of geocachers already in the area it was a great atmosphere. Plenty of social opportunities, loads of caches to find and just good fun to be had! With the car packed, there was only one thing left to do - Find some caches! This was one of the many stops made along the way.A sad place and a wee walk out to the good sized cache.A big thanks goes to billywillysillydilly for taking the time to add Pennyweight Flat Cemetery to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Are you ready for Victorias next big event?Join us for Victorias first ever *Block Party* to celebrate 25 years of geocaching.**When:** March 22 - 23, 2025**Where:** Hume Global Learning Centre, SunburyLog your will attend at [**GCAP417: The Sunbury Event** ](https://coord.info/GCAP417) Visit our [**Block Party website** ](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/the-sunbury-event) for more details on the exciting lineup of events and activities as they are released!
I was spending a few days in Geelong after attending the Capital City Geobash in Canberra and I decided to do a day trip to Castlemaine grabbing caches along the way. One of the saddest cemeteries I have ever visited. Thank you billywillysillydilly for placing and maintaining this cache.
Tasmania Trip Day 13. Travel Day, Geelong to Canberra. After a great night one the boat and even a good nights sleep, I was ashore way too early and beginning to drive home to Canberra. After refueling I started out. I did not go directly and took quite a detour via the final three western(ish) counties in Victoria I have not cached in before. This leaves Melbourne and several east of Melbourne around to almost Orbost to do one day. Seeing the heavy traffic streaming towards Melbourne in the other direction was odd in the foggy pre-dawn darkness. Eventually it got light and I reached some caches to do. All in all it went smoothly with some interesting places visited and I even made it home eventually, just before dark. All in all a great multi leg journey over almost a month. Now onto some Canberra activities.I did not have to get far from the car today, but here I found myself on a short walk into this very overgrown cemetery, and was surprised to see another walker wandering around. No problems with the cache here today. Thanks for the cache billywillysillydilly46176.15 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & August 2020 Mothman A#425**Albida**
Great day out exploring this super interesting area. The cemetery in particular was a poignant reminder of life in the goldrush era. We wouldnt have visited but for the cache, but are glad we did. Quite sad, but definitely worth a visit. TFTCPS- the resident red back is quite harmless. Please dont hurt her!
We found this nice big cache sitting out in the open. Nice quick easy find after a nice walk from the car park. Very interesting cemetery. We love looking around old cemeterys. Left a few more swaps for the kids to find. TFTC. SL. Thanks for putting a nice big cache out this way for us to come and find. Thanks & Cheers. Nice drive along the road to get here.
Find#6392Nice hiding place What a epic road trip exploring Australia Thanks for the cache
In Castlemaine today to be Guard on the Victorian Goldfields Railway... and went looking for a local cache or two at the end of the day before hitting the highway back home to Melbourne. It was interesting to see how quickly the area around Castlemaine becomes rural once you leave the main road. The cache was a nice and easy find... and is in good condition. Thanks **billywillysillydilly** for putting this cache out in this fascinating historical location.
Found with Sorceysal meeting for a Christmas drink. This was a nice stroll to a great container. Thanks bwsd for bringing us here
A day trip up to Castlemaine for Interntional Earthcache Day...After visiting the EC sites I headed around the local area for a few more finds before heading to the nearby event. A sad area that I had no idea about and was a bit of a shock to see and read about it. Cache was found without issue and the log signed. Thanks for highlight the site....
After looking around for a few minutes we found it. Fun findings things that were right under our noses but undiscovered until your looking
An unusual situation for us instead of being in lovely warm Queensland we are hiding around cold old Victoria. Medical reasons and caravan repairs have us staying here and we will be looking forward to finding as many caches as possible while we are here. SL TFTC
On a road trip to Bendigo to visit the Family and detoured to Castlemaine for a lunch stop and to find a cache or three. This was the first. Mrs Pooky made a quick easy find then we had a wander around the cemetery and checked out the old graves. TFTC and bringing us to this spot. TNLN.
Found It.................After working up in the Maryborough area yesterday we set off on a scenic journey to collect some caches that we had on our "to do" list for quite some time and pick up some that just happened to be in between. This has been at the top of our list after comming across an article outlining its existance. After pulling up we set off in the pouring rain making our way over to gz where a quick search soon had us signing the log. After replacing the container we wandered around getting more and more wet but it didn't matter as we were trying to comprehend the suffering that the family's would have been going through after the passing of their children/siblings in those early years. Thanks billywillysillydilly for the cache. Now just to dry off and have a bite of lunch. We are giving it a Fav point
IdiotLairds found it!

Nice container and in good condition. A nice spot also. Cemetery caches are always interesting, as were the unnecessary fence hops we undertook TFTC TNLN.

Today I headed out this way as I was needing a few more cache finds in the Mount Alexander LGA for a certain challenge cache.
On my tour of a very interesting area, I stopped at this one to make the find.
This is certainly an interesting but ad place.
The headstones in those days where a bit different to later on.
**Thanks to billywillysillydilly for placing this cache.**

Lovely but sombre area, that I wouldn’t have found without geocaching. Dropped a trackable off for new travels. Thanks
I haven’t felt so moved by visiting a place as I did here today.
The CO aptly described this place with “an air of abandonment still felt today”.
The cemetery is eerie …the graves placed in complete disarray here and there….all of them identified by natural rock beds large and small.
But, also.. I couldn’t believe the beauty of the place as well…even though that sounds odd.
Haunting beauty.
Even the name evokes emotion for me.
Pennyweight Flat.
There were gorgeous and spooky little dolls on some of the graves. They were beautifully made, some of them..
But somehow seemed inappropriate as they also had a ghoulish look about them.
But they were also very beautiful at the same time. I would have loved to have kept two of them in particular, but of course…that was out of the question.
To add to the haunting, moving and eerie beauty of the place….it was freezing up there on that gorgeous little hill…and just as we were leaving,
The most glorious sunset rose and bathed the cemetery in golden magnificence..
The whole thing took my breath away.
I can’t thank you enough for bringing us here.
I feel compelled to return sometime soon with my son and daughter in law who would love to see this.
R.I.P to the poor darling little children
A definite favourite from me.

An interesting and touching place that shows the hardships of the goldfields. Dropped off a travel bug as it’s a nice big safe cache. Tftc
Cool grey almost wintry November afternoon, en route from Melbourne to Castlemaine. Drawn to this Children’s Cemetery by the pathos of the story. No difficulty finding the cache. Left Zeche Zollverein GG32FD
What a very sad area with so many childrens graves, thanks for bringing cachers to this site

The history behind this location is really sad. Me and catherinec19 were not aware of its existence until now. Had a quick around on a frosty saturday morning and left everything as is. TFTC
Heading home with Impany227, kenbryl and Jenno3 when we decided to call in here for a walk to stretch our legs. Thanks for highlighting the place with your cache. Tftc
Very tough living back in those gold rush days and the same scenario in the Walhalla goldfields with the children to, thanks for highlighting this interesting location.. TFTC
Overwhelming to think of all the souls of those cherubs. Thanks for the history lesson
Found...was well in the open so we have tried to hide a little better. Took a moment to think about all the tiny souls lost and buried here. TFTC
So sad walking around here thinking of the losses to all those families. Still glad you brought us here. We've been to Castlemaine many times before but never found this place. Thanks
TFTC. We had been enjoying the sunshine and caching along Fryers Ridge Road. On our way home to Maryborough we detoured to find just one more cache for the day. A short detour and cache was quickly in hand.
Found this medium cache at 5:11 PM walking through the cemetery was a very somber experience. So many little graves a lot without any monument. After reading the monuments on the graves the children died so young. Must have been such a hard life for the families in that era. It was eerie and so sad seeing the little dolls on the graves. So much sadness.
A fascinating place but sad too. Thanks for bringing me here today billywillysillydilly.
This turned into a night cache job as the sun had well and truly set by the time I headed up here tonight. May have to come back in daylight hours for what seems to be a great view. Thanks for highlighting this spot!
I grew up across the road from here, thank you for sharing the history for others to see
A fascinating cemetery to explore here
And a cache to find too [^]
Well it took far longer to explore the cemetery,
than it did to find the cache

Incredible cemetery with so many unmarked rock perimeter graves. So simple so moving so much historical significance. FP. CIGC TNLN TFTC
In Castlemaine for family Christmas and 4 of the lads decided on a bit of a bush jaunt to kill some time.
Easy find in an interesting place.

Found this whilst out and about grabbing a few caches.
This was a great location for a cache and plenty of other stuff to read and look at.
Sorry it's taken me so long to log this, I have no excuse except for being slack.

After the nearby event, I headed into town to find coffee and breakfast. I had spent my spare time this past week solving the 3 puzzle caches in the area, so I was determined to find them while I was here as well as a few others nearby.
I was just passing by this one was a quick stop. Read about the cemetery, very sad.
Many thanks to billywillysillydilly for the cache. TNLN.

Easy find at this location today while caching around Castlemaine after attending today's event. Teamed up with Sue from SueandGreg and my Geofamily and as we both enjoy taking in the history of these old cemeteries we had to stop here for a look as well. Initially Mrs Perpetuallylost led the search party but it soon became apparent that she was leading us in thwe wrong direction. A reset of the GPS and we were soon back on track. Thanks to the COs for placing a cache here for us to find. Cheers!
This was a very sad but beautiful piece of history thank you for bringing us here
I’ve found this cache before but only discovered today I never logged it originally.
What a sad situation for these children laid to rest here in this cemetery. Thanks for the interesting notes - much appreciated. Cache found in a good hiding spot. Dropped T B into cache container.Cool wind now as we look at the grave stones.

We said Hello to all the little ones here . The Women on the Goldfields had a VERY tough life in having and rearing children in such a harsh environmental. Thanks for bringing us here TFTC
Staying in Chewton and wanted to have an explore of the area. Had a nice circular walk through the Diggings including this sad locale. TFTC
Quite a lot of burials in such a short time.
Life was so tough back then and just to survive was a battle for a lot of familes.
Thanks billywillysillydilly TFTC.

Back in the Maine - there are just so many new caches here, since we lived in Bendigo. We found this one before heading to Blackwood for a very special geo-birthday.
What a serene location for these tiny souls. Another place people would not learn about without the incentive of a cache find, well deserving of a FP.
Sighted trackable: TB7M9X8 'Anvil Angus Geocoin' that wants to *"travel up at to the East Coast of Darwin. Please take photos. I would like to visit some crocs....."*
Thanks to 'billywillysillydilly' for placing this cache on the geo-gameboard.
