Hi G_2This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit and after my previous reviewer note, there has been no cache maintenance logged. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived. Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.RegardsTheCoddiwompler
No luck here. Theres a lot of big fallen trees in the area so a bit hard to reach any decent GZ.
Took 6 of us looking, so especially being a new cache this was a huge disappointment. Will be keeping my eye out on this one. One heck a good hide but knowing my luck will be so obvious!
Couldn't find this one, despite a really good look around. Searched every curly leafed tree we could find - but turned up nothing. Really tough area to search with the lack of trail and multiple downed trees.
After a bit of clambering about the fallen trees, found the likely suspect. Looked from one location, no luck. Tried from another location and found nicely hidden cache. Tftc
Was invited to spend some time at the Opoutere campsite with the Winstone family, who have been coming to the campsite for the past 20 years!
Decided to take the kids out and to do some geocaching. They had never been, and really enjoyed it.
We were a bit worried we might not find this one, but the clue helped a lot.
I think the terrain rating here may be a little on the low side, certainly the large dead tree across the trail adds some interesting variety, but soon made the find without any major scrapes or injury, TFTC
This one took the longest to find. I was having enough trouble just identifying the actual tracks, and there were quite a number of hint items around, but I got it.
Thanks for putting this here

Nice quick find here before we headed to the point of the spit and views of great places.
Off out for the day to Pauanui and other nearby areas as the weather forecast for tomorrow doesn't look too flash. We found a 'few' caches by a certain North Island CO, which was to be expected due to the prolific regional placements. Guess we can see where he likes to vacation in Jan each year?
I have got a busy few days coming up, and am heading north to the Coromandel peninsula for the weekend with a work holiday home booked for this upcoming long weekend, including stat day on Monday. Then I'm heading home with mrs c for a couple of days leave followed by a couple of days WFH before heading back to Manawatu and my new work area at the weekend. Not massive numbers of cache finds but a few to keep things ticking over and a surprising amount by Auckland based COs too! Thanks to all cache owners for their contributions.

Found it with little effort when walking made it a tiny bit more than obvious to see tftc
I was walking the trail in an anti clockwise direction and had to clamber over 2 large fallen trees across the track within 60m of this cache. Now I understand why there was a warning at the start of the track! Cache was a quick find and in good nick
Bit of tree felling going on at this point on the track! Still found the cache reasonably quickly!
Only I stopped, the others carried on as it was just below poisoned pine trees, TFTC
Checked a couple of trees but soon found the correct one. Really enjoying this trail.

Another one snagged and taged along this walkway. Cheers.
Day 12 - Tuesday 29 December - Whangamata - Opoutere - Onemana and back to Whangamata today. Some local beaches to explore so lets go!
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

Nice to see an anti-Narrow-Neck-Syndrome device employed here.Found a path tag from Snap-Happy here - One I do not already have! Swapped it for one of mine.
Taybeedragon and I went on a tour of the Coromandel - one of the few places of New Zealand, especially of Te ika a Maui, that I have yet to explore throughly, and from there along the coast to Opotiki to see one of my many, many sisters. From 18 December to 5 January we found over 400 caches, including 12 adventure labs (60 caches), 20 or so TMGTs and a host of virtuals and earthcaches. And I hosted an event to see the sun come up on New Year's day - surprisingly popular given that it was at 5am. We climbed a lot of hills, saw some amazing beaches that were quite popular despite (or because of) the insane access to them, walk a lot of bush, entered and explored 8 gold mines and generally had an awesome time. However I am glad to be back, but now is the hard part, and I fear it will take just as long - logging!

Thankyou for cache. Like these ones that take us for a walk and then can find without a sniffer dog. Delightful place but weather not playing ball.
Started searching too far from the trail junction then corrected to find where it is described. Thanks G-2.
Making our way around the point, checking out the sites and hiding from the sun. Crazy to see all the dead pine trees, looks unreal.
Spending the long weekend in Whangamata for some Kayaking and Tramping. Arrived today and enjoyed my walk around the area collecting geocaches. TFTC
Hard to find, but got there! Replaced it at the base of the curly leaf tree where it should have been
Got it thanks to sharp eyed kids
However needs new log book and is 6 m from where co ordinates tell us to look

Found while on my Christmas holidays in Pauanui with Tramyard. Beautiful place. Thanks for the cache
I didn't find this cache last year. It was the only DNF in the area. Returned here today and had successful find in less than 5 seconds while at GZ .... Well.... TFTC!
Having spent a great day cycling and caching in Pauanui, we thought we'd make as much use of the good winter weather as we could. Opoutere looked enticing for a late afternoon caching adventure, and so it turned out to be as we bravely negotiated the dangerous trees in the ever increasing shadows. Woooh Hoooh! Not such an easy find here. Had to look again on the way back. Curly, curly, curly. Just about to call it quits when we finally spotted it in the half dark, as plain as could be. Cache all good. TFTC
Been planning on this road trip for ages and finally got there today. Nice early start and beautiful sunshine all day Track is closed but I decided to run the gauntlet as such good weather and no wind to blow branches down. Glad I did as it is a lovely walk and all caches are good Cache is there - under the curly one TFTC
Didn't take long what the hint meant and bang another smilie. Enjoying the fact these a quick easy finds. Tftc
Found this one finally, after a hiatus of a couple of years! Cache is in ok condition but log is full.
Staying the night in the reserve. On our way around the track picking up all the caches, we hope. In spite of a very extensive search under every available hint item we had no luck here.
On a lil mish from Tauranga today with Grandies in tow as they are on school holidays. A bit overcast but nice mild temp. A fabulous place for a cache. I am logging these with a generic template on Cachly. Many Thanks to all cache owners for the placements. Cheers
Having picked up all the caches in Pauanui and Tairua I decided an outing to Opoutere was next closest and what a little hidden gem it is too! The only problem is that most of these caches are in the ‘forbidden forest’. Closed off due to dangerous trees. In for a penny in for a pound! This one took a little longer as I sought out the hint items one by one. There it was!
Thanks for placing and greetings from the .

Staying at Opoutere campground for the weekend and was really hoping to turn this DNF into a smiley. Walked down the beach early on Sunday morning from the campground, as the forest is all cordoned off for logging.
Once at GZ, things came flooding back and remembered searching for ages for this one at the time with 11hpg11 back on Waitangi '14.
Again, we spent ages looking in all the places matching the hint. It was found after widening the search area a little. Very glad to tick this one off the list. All good here, TFTC!

Cache number 3319. I arrived at the junction and wandered around following my GPS and looking at all the hint items. But nothing was found. Then I ignored my GPS and I went specifically to what I thought were the hint items. Eventually under one I spotted something and on a closer look the cache was in hand. Signed and returned. Thanks for the placement.
Took about 20 minutes. Co-ords least accurate at this one but widened the search and BINGO! Thanks. CBE
What way should we go? All of them lead to the same destination so it doesn't matter... Quick find but what are curly leaves? Thanks for hiding!
So many bushes, ALL the bushes!! All curly leaves and mostly dead. Try again next year
Woke up early to lovely views this morning, after overnighting on the foreshore at Whangamata. Time to head north to find caches along the way to Pauanui and Tairua. Neither of us has travelled this part of the country before, so it was all new to us. After visiting the peninsula lookout spot to the north of Whanga our next detour was to Opoutere.
This cache caused us the most grief on the trail this morning, The GPS was jumping around wildly, and there were many examples of the hint item. I think we checked them all - probably several times - before finding the cache.

This was a cache we grabbed on the way back from our walk to the beach. The hint was a bit ambiguous so it took a little longer than we thought it would. Eventually we stepped back and took another look at the area, and found the cache straight away. We made it a bit harder than it needed to be. The cache is in good condition. Thanks for the cache!
This one took a little searching - GPS was bouncing a little and a few trees to choose from but got there in the end. Cheers G-2 TFTC.

Today, on a nice spring day, we have made a short but very pleasant 6 km walk along 10 caches in the Opoutere area. All caches were found.
Our big thanks to **G--2** for bringing us to all the interesting places.
*This one took quite some time, found on some distance from GZ.*

This was a bit tricky as gps jumped around with trees and rain interference. Thanks for the cache
Took me a while to locate this cache...numerous reason...weather and gps thanks for a great cache
Find #100! This tricky find reminded us how satisfying to be a determined geochacher.
Another great Highlight on my NZ trip! On the map Opoutere looked like a quite and lovely place and so I decided to visit it and have a short stroll near the seaside. That was perfect! It was exactly what I had expected and so I had a very, very nice walk here and also could find some very, very nice Caches. Really a beautifull landscape.
Thank you so much for showing me this nice place and for the caches. I spend some favorite Points here.

Container wasn't really hidden due to weather I guess. We covered a bit better. Tftc
It was dark when we got here, just, but after a 30mins search it was pitch black. Since I had the only decent torch, the girls had their cellphones, it was going to be a looong search! Curly leaf trees are everywhere! so we just kept looking methodically and viola, rusty with a steely determination, finally nails it - **get it?** rusty.. steel...nails.... oh, well, I guess it wasn't THAT funny! But what was cool though, was our perseverance! We did not want a DNF then we carried on for a few more caches in the dark.
This one turned out to be the most challenging for the night! with only one torch, and the sun already set, it was starting to get dark. I suspect we did not want to end the day with a DNF (and it would have been our first for the weekend), so we kept looking.
WIth lots of repeating of the hint/description, an increased GZ and for me touch. Eventually I called out to the others that I had found it! phew it was a challenging find Thanks for the hide

Wow ,,,,,, this was one of the two most challenging ones for our team of three today ! Being in total darkness didn't help at all !
All the trees looked a bit curly -leaved in the dark !
And we couldn't really share one torch !
But none of us would ever give up ! Finally rustynz called out the good news that she had found it ! Totally by feel ! Thanks rusty ! Over 50 caches roughly in 4 days and no dnfs !!!!

Lekiprokos's team (aka Ninalila & fefe.adrien) decided to visit Opoutere beach.
Geocaching allowed us to do a nice walk in the forest, along the mangrove swamp.

Nice to sstop in the shade before continuing on our walk - soft sand, nice trees. T4tc
Another mini raid in Coromandel to find caches for our latest license challenge... With Gap (of Fap and Gap).
The curly leaf hint made short work of this hide. This was helpful, as we were shortly overtaken by a group of young, bare-footed walkers. The cache was well concealed among the ground cover. A quick scratch around and the hide was revealed. TFTC.

Found it on a cool, calm night caching adventure of five of G-2's Bodyguard caches. This was a lot harder in the night than it would be in the day! There were so many curly leaf trees around and we spent about 20 minutes looking under them when we finally decided to look at the spoiler photo. We worked out what tree it was, but it took another 5 minutes to find the cache. I would have sworn I had looked there before! TFTC!
This took such a long time to find!! We read all the info several times and sifted through the logs. Expanded our search area and still no luck. Then I thought to check for photos and shortly after, we hit the jackpot! I'm sure we'd already checked there - but the cache was so well hidden we must've just missed it! Thanks!
This one had us stumped for ages today. Was eventually found by yodabeach, when we resorted to using all possible hints...including photos, and extending search area. Not really why it took us so long, but glad to eventually have this pesky little blighter in hand!
Nice hide tftc

Got interrupted by muggles....pretended to be lost not a V bottle as says in description.
As I approached GZ I noticed a couple acting suspiciously, a woman rustling through a bush and her husband walking in circles with a GPS in hand and I immediately realised I had caught up to the Geocachers whose name I had seen in the last couple of caches I found. I think I gave them a bit of a shock when I strolled up and said hello. After some quick introduction we combined forces. They had been at GZ for a bit and hadn't had any luck in locating the cache so we compared notes and loaded up the alternative coordinates from a previous log. Before we zeroed in on those however I had spotted the cache. It was really neat to come across some fellow Geocachers. We decided to head off to the next cache together...
Easy find... But at base of a wavy leafed tree and in a small black gaffer taped bottle. Just next to path.
Used WEKA's coordinates and found quickly. A pill bottle with black plastic tape camo.

A difficult find by mama Funnell. GPS wouldnt settle. Not a v bottle. small black plastic container.
This one we did not find - we needed to get back for Christmas dinner, ho ho ho.
