After having a poke around yesterday and finding caches on the way up from Marsden to the gliding take off zone I decided to take it a bit further today. All in the name of getting, being and staying fit A detour and some hard to find caches put me well behind schedule but it doesn't make the fun any less.Thank you BigglesNZ for the cache
I remember coming up here some time ago and even looking for this one. But with a group of non cachers, who were keen to move on. So only a quick look back then, unsure which of the signs, which tree and which rock. No problems today.
It was so good to be up on the tops, on the other side from the noise of the quarry. TFTC!!!
A great day walking from Marsden Valley to the Brook, caching along the way.
My idea to do this hike & I thought it would be about 15 kms & maybe 4 hours...ended up being 20.6 kms & 6.5 hours
A well deserved cider & chips after out hike
A great day out!

First one today. No issues here, glad to report all is in good shape with this one as it has been a bit lonely. TFTC Biggles.
Today RG72 and I headed for the hills, climbing up from Marsden Valley to the parasailing jump off zone, then heading along the top until we reached and followed the Brook waimarama sanctuary fence line, then dropping down Coppermine trail and back to the car.
A biggish day, was only supposed to be ‘a few hours’, but it was 6.5 hours up there including geocaching, lunch and other stops. Almost 21 km travelled, we had good weather and no major dramas. Just the one DNF today. Cheers all

Third time lucky here. Two previous DNFs over several years and with all other caches in the vicinity long-since found the reasons for heading up this way were quite slim.
However with Mrs Msebn suggesting I head out for a good walk with the dog and offering to drop me at the end of Marsden Valley Road so I could walk back down to the Brook Valley a visit here seemed on the cards.
After so many weeks of lockdown there were plenty of walkers and bikers on the way up Involution. Hey, I even bumped into the Bum and we stopped for a good chat.
Only a few minutes detour to this GZ and my efforts were soon rewarded as I spotted the hiding place after only a few minutes.
Thanks BigglesNZ for replacing this one albeit a while back.

Last cache on the hill today for us today, which makes a nice wee tally of 17 and most importantly no DNF's. Approached Gz and saw a mountain biker parked up taking a few photo's. Had a good yarn to him and was lucky to get an update on the new? ( it's been 20 years since up here last) tracks in the area. Great view of Mt Malita from here. Cache found when my new friend moved off and found to be in pristine condition. Signed and back down the hill to the car.

When we were discussing where todays cache might be, I remembered seeing that this one has been replaced. I have been here twice before, the first time on my own and the second time with GK, both times we were left with that empty feeling.
No such problems today, GK headed up the hill and the cache was in the first place he looked, so it is always good to find a cache that has been unsuccessful in the past.
Unfortunately it was a bit too cloudy to really appreciate the views that are on offer, but once he dropped down under the cloud level he got to see the stunning views that are one of the highlights of being on this hill.
Thanks for replacing the cache and thanks for the smiley.

Hmm - looks like I'm going to have to get out there and see what's happened to this one - when the rain clears up.
I also was unlucky in my search, but will add to my watchlist in case it gets found again in the future
My intended fourth on the list this evening, which turned out to be my second and last search - and a failed one at that - due to a combination of exploring a less-than-direct path to the ridge and things generally taking longer to get here than I estimated.
"An easy find!" others had said.
"Where would I hide it?" I thought.
Well wherever the easy find was hidden, it wasn't where I thought it would be.
Made it back down to the car in thirty minutes though.

Found this one via the Involution and Jenkins Hill. Legs just about working still. Heck, this morning has been hard work. But great fun!! Thanks Biggles!!
#9885. This was as far as we came along the ridge. It was one of the quicker finds of the day (just as well as it wasn't far off 4PM; time to be heading back). TFTC.

I was feeling quite weary by this time, and was lagging quite a bit behind StreetWalker. A couple of 4WD vehicles passed by, but neither stopped to see if I wanted a lift! By this stage I would have been less than 200m from GZ so it wouldn't have been much help, I suppose. I was pleased to see SW with the cache in hand as I got to the top of the last rise. Now to go back to do a few more caches on the ridge before heading back down the Involution Track. TFTC.
One of the great things about my job is the opportunity to mentor and train young personnel. Today I got to take a group on a four wheel drive trip through the Maungatapu road from Pelorus. This gave them the chance to experience some of the great NZ outdoors, and learn some history, bushcraft, navigation and for those with their own off road vehicles, pick up some skills and experience in a safe and structured environment. This was an excellent trip, and of course I took the opportunity to pick up a few caches along the way. A few of them had heard of geocaching as well and were keen to get involved in helping to look for them and possibly even get involved themselves. From the Maitai we headed through Nelson and over the hill into the Roding water reserve area. some great terrain and country covered.
Found this one just before we dropped down the steep track into the water reserve area. This was the last cache for the day as I'd forgotten to save any more further on to my phone. Good excuse to come back one day. T F T C Biggles

Out for a caching walk to day, Up Barnicoat along to Jenkins Hill and back down Involution. Thanks for putting the caches out there. I had a good day out walking and caching TFTC Quick easy find
Being right on the ridge, quite a few trees had succumbed to the recent winds. I was a little worried that that might make locating a cache difficult but I need not have worried. I spent a little while searching but then spotted something I hadn't noticed before. Sure enough it turned out to be an excellent hiding place for a cache. Thanks! I had taken 3 hours meandering my way up to this point. I had something on that I had to get home for - - - so spent 40 minutes getting down. - - - Not sure if I would choose the so-called walkway for another descent though!!!! Thanks for all your caches up this way - - - and for maintaining another. I really enjoyed the walk.
Looking at my Biggles books, this could well be "Biggles sees it through", with yet another hide from this prolific CO. Thanks for all of these. http://www.geocaching.com/images/icons/icon_smile_cool.gif
Went for another great walk up the beloved Barnicoat, and had to have a look for this one again. Not sure how I missed it the last time, but pleased to make its acquaintance today. Thanks Biggles.
I'm sad to say I couldn't find this one. I did a 4 metre sweep of all the likely spots and came up with nothing. While I was in the trees a big group of walkers came past. Felt a bit silly in the bushes and didn't let my presence known but couldn't help thinking it would be a bit awkward if they saw me....some weirdo in the trees lurking about.... oh well.
So what started as a 2 to 3 hour Waitangi Day walk with MrsM turned into an almost 5 hour mission. Up the Involution Trail, across the top of Barnicoat and then down the Glider Rd, picking up 11 caches along the way. A find #6 and a quick find here. TFTC
Came up from the weir via the old scouts track as I know from previous experience that for me its quicker and easier to go up it than down. The reason for both is because it appears to go directly up. Good spot for a cache. TFTC #4409
Called by for a quick find while making my way off the mountain. I never quite made it this far on my last foray so am pleased to knock this and involution of this time.
Cold wind blowing from the South West today. Not pleasant. Lucky the views are brilliant.

Easy find, but was shocked to see Marchwood's name on the same date. There goes my FTF I was heading for. TFTC
Only 600m from Involution and on the relative flat - well we could hardly leave this one. Spotted the sign - but the GPS said - and then spotted GZ. However, the sun had gone and the drizzle arrived so we decided not to go back down Involution, but down the road. A shame really as we had enjoyed the track up and there had been no-one on it. The road was much busier - probably 10 or more people either coming or going!! Including one person who told us he had seen three people up here on unicycles. Thanks for this and the other caches you have placed on the range. We enjoyed reminising as we headed down the road.
Being a nice clear day, I'd expected to see a lot more sporty people up here wizz about on bicycles.

Heading back down by hoof, had the place to my self for this one. Ran into two lots of friends on the track after this, both of which had not seen for some time. Topped off a pleasant wee outing thanks.
Cache found out in the open this morning so signed log and then tucked it out of sight.
Third cache today [^]. Found without looking as cache was out in the open. Signed log with Ducksarse Dave then hid cache from easy view.
I promised to leave this one to do with Ellie so the two of us walked up via the escalator this morning. She was onto the cache in a flash first place she checked. TFTC.
FTF. Have been past this sign several times, but would never have thought of putting a cache there. Well, there you go! Nice quick find on a loopy bike ride. Good one, thanks.
