After having a poke around yesterday and finding caches on the way up from Marsden to the gliding take off zone I decided to take it a bit further today. All in the name of getting, being and staying fit Halfway between here and Pt789 was the turn around point. Some detours and a missed sign had used more time than I thought and Jenkins Hill has to wait )-: It made me arrive home just in time for dinner.GZ was the third place I passed today that had water bowls laying around. This terrain must be hard work for pig dogs!It was a quick find then off home again.Thank you BigglesNZ
Found today on a walk up involution. Forgot to bring a pen, again, sorry. Took some photos to prove though. All in good condition, slightly damp log. Bird song was awesome today.

Came up the involution track by MTB, quite a challenge! Very happy to have made it up here. Cache qickly found, a bit damp, but ok. Tftc!
Caches in this area today are the focus. Having survived an ascent to this point via the Scout track it was time to have a rest, find the cache, sign and move on. A fairly easy find with all still in great condition. Replaced as found. A few runners on the trails today. Now along the Widdershins track to the next cache.

Lovely day for a walk up Involution.
Quick find here, bite to eat, and back down

Lovely spot and well times search, just before two riders emerged from the vegetation. TFTC!!
3rd find today, and easily found at the obvious spot. Dried the log out a bit, apart from that, all good and TFTC Biggles.
Today RG72 and I headed for the hills, climbing up from Marsden Valley to the parasailing jump off zone, then heading along the top until we reached and followed the Brook waimarama sanctuary fence line, then dropping down Coppermine trail and back to the car.
A biggish day, was only supposed to be ‘a few hours’, but it was 6.5 hours up there including geocaching, lunch and other stops. Almost 21 km travelled, we had good weather and no major dramas. Just the one DNF today. Cheers all

The furthest I walked until today. A cool place to stop & take 5
Cache located with Ricardinho
A great day walking from Marsden Valley to the Brook, caching along the way.
My idea to do this hike & I thought it would be about 15 kms & maybe 4 hours...ended up being 20.6 kms & 6.5 hours
A well deserved cider & chips after out hike
A great day out!

The plan was to do the Barnicoat walkway but we must have turned left instead of right at some point and ended up doing a completely different track. Quite steep to come up here and several streams to cross, but nice and good views.
Cache here was quickly found but too wet and mouldy to sign. Photo attached

I visited the cache today - forgetting that others had already pointed out that it needed a new log. If anyone comes up here to find this cache before I manage to get up here again, a replacement log would be appreciated.
GK knocked off work early so that we could go out together to find a cache that has been on my radar for quite a while. We drove to the start of the road we wanted to walk up and the gate that is usually closed was wide open with plenty of warning signs to say they are currently logging in the area. Oh dear let us make a plan B.
Plan B was to head up here and show GK the track I went along recently. So we parked at the bottom of the hill and the weather was just starting to drizzle. Hmmm do we carry on or do we go and find a park and grab then go home to where it is warm and dry?? We usually do not let a bit of drizzle stand in our way of our goal and today was no different.
We were not the only people rambling up the hill today (so not the only nutters out there).
We were the only ones to keep on going past the top of the hill though.
We got to GZ and as I was reading the cache page (which is something I usually do not do until we are home) GK had found it. The log is pretty manky and really could do with replacing the next time the CO is in the neighbourhood or maybe the next finder could bring one with them.
We gently opened the log book and carefully wrote our name. Then we replaced it as we found it.
By the time we were here the drizzle had turned into rain, and the dog bowl that is near GZ was filling with nice fresh rain water, so the next dog that passes should be rewarded with a nice drink.
Thank you for another reason to climb up this hill, thank you for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley.
This walk will be counted towards the Ramblers Reward Challenge Cache

Continuing my unplanned route around some of Barnicoat’s unloved caches, my next stop was here.
Spotted the obvious quickly and found the cache about 1m from where it should be.
Whether than was caused by muggles or mammals or mamils for that matter I cared not. Log damp but writable but the next person here might do well to bring up a replacement log as it’s too far back to the car for me this time.
Thanks BigglesNZ

This is a fantastic spot, stopped for lunch and enjoyed the peace, a few riders went past while we were there. Unable to write in logbook, very wet. TFTC.
Had pushed on to the top via the hangglider launch area. Stopped a few times on the pretext of admiring the view. Some lady encouraged me on. Easy find. Thats the only find for the day. It boosts my ego.
Great hide. Quick find while filming up here with Nelson City Council and Doc. Tftc
Got dark on my wsy down. A rock in the last stream kicked me off my steely steed. 28 mins down with two quick stops. TFTC
Meandered my way up slowly, to be rewarded by a nice easy find. My first visit to this area so thanks for bringing me up here Biggles. Oh, and thanks for the work out too!! And the cache... Cheers
#9883. The cache was in the area we expected, but my searching was too crap to suss out the cache's covering (nicely done!). TFTC.

StreetWalker had turned off his GPSr to conserve power as it had already run two lots of batteries down in our walk and we wanted to keep some batteries charged in case we needed the torches on the walk down (luckily we didn't). So I pointed to where the GPsr was indicating for SW to retrieve the cache but he failed to locate it. So had to find it myself and it was exactly where I thought it was. Even though it was a little damp, I used the seat while doing the paper work as the legs were grumbling a bit after the exertions. Just a few more caches to find while we are in the area, before heading back down to the car. TFTC.
Nice day for a walk up the involution track. It felt very good getting to the stop and stopping for a break

Mummy and Daddy took me for a walk up this hill but I am very glad I didn't have to walk all of the way myself! I had fun playing with the weka at GZ, he was very interested in my cake even if Daddy did end up eating most of it. Thank you for the cache.
Out for a caching walk to day, Up Barnicoat along to Jenkins Hill and back down Involution. Thanks for putting the caches out there. I had a good day out walking and caching TFTC
Great place for lunch prior to returning down Involution on geopedals. TFTChttp://www.geocaching.com/images/icons/icon_smile_cool.gif
Easy find here and a good spot to stop and eat my peanut butter sandwich, and do the work for ZAG further down the track. Thanks Biggles
I felt really lucky today. The other 2 parts of the SIS team were planning a sortie on 2 caches up this way. I tagged along - - - but there were lots more unfound caches for me. - - - I think I ended up with 7. What a great facility these tracks are - - - and they seem to be really well used. Didn't take too long to work out where the cache might be, so it was soon in hand. Many thanks. Good one.
So what started as a 2 to 3 hour Waitangi Day walk with MrsM turned into an almost 5 hour mission. Up the Involution Trail, across the top of Barnicoat and then down the Glider Rd, picking up 11 caches along the way. Find #5. Credit goes to MrsM for finding this one while I tried to make life difficult! TFTC
Decided today was the day to get the MTB out and see how fit I am.
Not very, apparently! Boy was I glad to get to here...
Pushed the bike up Involution, and on to Pt 786, making me too tired to enjoy the ride back down again

Out on the MTB with Mr Bareto. Found by Mr Bareto whilst I was looking the other way! TFTC.
Stopped for a quick park and grab after having gone straight past it earlier this morning on my way to Jenkins Junction. It seem that I've done one here before. Can't remember. Have done the Involution once. Never again. Too technical for me. I'm sticking to the 4WD road.

What a great day for a walk up in the hills. Just getting over my lazy long weekend. After working 11 days straight I reckon a long weekend was needed. so being a lazy Monday. Thought I may as well drive. Nice quick find. Even a nice turn around area at gz . tftc
We had been eyeing the track for a while, but set out today not sure how far we would go. Sunny but cool (well it is winter) and we couldn't resist doing the whole track. No people, no bikes and lots of birdsong so we had a great walk up. We had intended to walk back down, but were tempted by 'just another last one' and then the sun disappeared so returned by the road. Thanks.
Easy find once the muggle hanging around finally biked off back down the hill
Yus, finally! The actual start of involution, hmm think my fitness needs working on. Fun track back down though TFTC
Wow, a bright shiny new sign to let us know we were there. Looks like a lot of effort has gone into this trail. Will check it out on the way back down.
TFTC
PS. I noted Bumandworker had visited the day before, I kept checking my phone just to make sure we didn't miss out on any new publications while we were up here!!

Resisted temptation to take bike, need some time on my feet. Surprised how quick it is now up the scouts track. had to wait ages for large bike group to leave. Then had pleasure of sharing the find with the Bateup Family. Two youngest had far too much energy...oh to be 50+ years younger! I had looked at this spot when the sign first put up, thinking good for a cache, but biking that day in non-cache mode.Too much laziness and distraction since. Nice to have a find to come too thanks.
I thought I better get a walk in before spending the weekend sitting on my bum. Crawled up via Old Scouts and walked back down Involution. At gz I almost fell for the slightly too obvious spot but then saw an even better one. Nicely hidden. TFTC
FTF. Took the bike up Involution from the bottom (seemed like a good idea at the time!). Had lunch at gz after a nice quick find. Got caught in the rain going across the top, before dropping back down the walkway track and out. Good one, thanks.
