We're visiting from Florida, USA. That was great fun but no luck today. Sigh. Thanks for placing the cache.
Think it may have been washed away. Coordinates put it halfway up the beach and couldn't see any obvious hiding places near track. Didn't hunt too hard though due to approaching rain. Very pleasant walk though. Thanks.
Hard going in the sand. Managed to avoid the rain.
Time to head to motel and have a wine I be thinking.
Cheers

8.10pm - trying to get 9 caches today but events changed things and it was nearly
Dark now, so it was off over the golf course then the scrub. oh well the straight line is best, don't worry about the blackberries, then found a track that almost took me to the cache, guess where it was hiding when I looked at co ords sure enough cache in hand. Back to vehicle to Mrs. Gap
Home now unable to complete our mission tonight. Another day tomorrow. SLTFTC

Spent this rainy and stormy day at Ohope Spit and Whakatane to find some caches. Thanks
Staying at the Top Ten Holiday Park in Ohope. Decided to walk to the spit & do the 3 caches down this end of Ohope. After having recent King tides thought this one could have washed away as the high tide mark was very close to GZ. Al good cache quickly in hand & off to Ohope 3. TFTC
Decided to take the beach walk as the tide was on the way out very hot day but a refreshing breeze and we we were soon near the GZ looked for the obvious spots and soon had the cache in hand.....by the look of the high tide Mark GZ was very close to having a swim but cache in good condition. What a wonderful peaceful area thanks for the cache .....off down the ocean side to locate another GZ
Wow the tides have been very close to gz. Fantastic walk along the beach. Time for a swim. Thanks for bringing us here.
One of the many caches we found on our campervan journey from Lower Hutt to Tauranga. A mighty and enjoyable journey through many great and iconic parts of the north island. Many thanks to the many CO's for the great cache placements and for bringing us to new places. A nice walk alng the dunes. TFTC. Sorry for the generic log.
#449 Out this morning to collect a cache for the final day of the year 2015. Path was pretty quiet at this time and was only snuck up on by a lone runner muggle. Track looks to be used very little but is still recognisable. At the very end of the track just near the GZ, you have to walk within 20m of many dotterel nests. Make sure you stay off main beach area to avoid. I used my iPhone today and once GPS settled coords where pretty much spot on. With the help of a previous log had cache quickly in hand.

There were unfortunately - no short cuts here. It seemed like the route for us would have to be 4th Tee to Ohope Beach 3 to Ohope Spit around and back to the car. A four wheel drive would have been epic here but on foot it felt like a long trip.
The cache was found quickly and in good condition - the beautiful spot would soon make up for any hard work we'd end up putting into these finds. Sadly there wasn't a lot of wildlife to be seen, I was secretly hoping for seals or sea lions but instead - didn't even see a lot of bird life. Enjoyable walk but my insatiable appetite for more caches ended up detracting from this experience - glad to have cleared the spit though.
Cheers again Mac Ross

On another geocaching trip with Philip.Perry and his son Daniel, this time we hit Whakatane and Ohope. Was awesome to do a trip during the day and the weather really turned it on for us. Got to see some fantastic views and experience some really magical spots. Thank you to all the CO's of the caches we found today
Nice to clear the spit, this is the kind of thing I really enjoy about caching getting out there finding new places and getting out on good walks

Found it. Cool log. Looks like a monster head according to the 9 year old.
GPS location spot-on. Fairly easy find once there.
Didn't spot any dotterels but did see some rabbits.
TFTC.

No dotterels this morning but lots of midgy flies. Great walk around the spit, beautiful views in every direction.
Took the inland route to the Ohope Spit, spotted heaps of sea gulls feasting on lots of discarded fish heads that had washed up along the shoreline, TFTC.
What a magic spot. Absolutely perfect for a cache. Thank you for bringing me on this walk to such an awesome location. Well worth a favourite point. TFTC.
Last one of the day, TOOOOO hot and TOOOO tired after a night of fishing and little sleep, will be back in this lovely area though. Thank you
The Italian Job was here. Co-ords spot on. Easy find. After the walk we enjoyed the natural seat whilst completing the log.
What better way spend the last afternoon of the year than to find a few caches. Last one for the day, a nice stroll along the point to the cache. A little search revealed the likely spot and my thinking was correct as I located the cache. Definitely time to head back home for a beer to bring in the new year.
A lovely day for a walk to the spit. Took a wee while to find, came from behind as per another cacher. Left a Tb. Tftc
I reckon I turned this 1 into a 2 and a half today. Coordinates were close for me, but I was searching in a jungle of hurt about 3 meters away from where I eventually found it. Ended up with a rash up the arm from something that didn't like me. Went round the "back way" and spotted an unusual object which eventually turned out to be hiding the cache. Not a soul to be seen on the spit today, and not a lot of birds to be seen either. Heard a pheasant beating its wings in the lupins; a pukeko perched up on a bush and an oystercatcher that growled at me for invading its territory. About a 1 km walk from the car which I enjoyed greatly. TFTC

Visiting from Taupo, will be staying in the area for 5 days. First night here decided to wanter to this cache, nice little walk before a dinner of fish and chips. Area quite overgrown at first I didn't believe the GPS but this is a Mac Ross hide therefore should be pretty accurate. Followed the compass and sveppi produced the goods in a logical spot. TFTC.
Got to work up an appetite for the planned fish and chips - this cache ticked the box. Nice evening stroll in a lovely area. TFTC
This one was in the GPS from some previous visit, but I didn't have the clue with me.
Turned out to be a fairly straight forward find anyway, except for some ugly looking spiders on the driftwood. It took a lot of courage from an arachniphobe like me to carry on
Left a pet rock - an owl TFTC

Walked around the spit.just made it before it got dark . Nice place for a walk .pleased to get a quick find .
This one is not getting a favourite today. U know the rain we've been having- well it caused a thigh deep wade to the cache in the only runners I have for the weekend.
Seriously though- haven't been here before and we needed to get out and that's what it's all about. Tftc

Found during our walk around the spit. Cockroaches and snails were keeping this cache company. TFTC
Logged IT , no worries. Nice walk along the harbour side, probably walk back on the ocean side. TFTC
Nice walk. Yet another beautiful NZ spot we may not have seen without geocaching! Thanks
First of the day, on our walk around the end of Ohope beach. Got a little confused finding our way, but found our way through ok. TFTC
a fabulous walk to GZ. A favourite point from us as this is such a beautiful place. t4tc
Enjoyed the walk out here, though only spotted one pair of birds, Oysercatchers, in the whole round trip.

I was seconds from finding this cache before receiving a rather alarming text from yetiballer, "tsunami warning, I hope you're not near water!"
At that point, I hurriedly found cache and went back to the car.
GPS tracked my way to hopefully minimize disturbances from OSM users. Will update the OSM database shortly

Amazing sunrise this morning! All quiet bar some keen fishermen today. Cache found quickly. Tftc
A quick easy find after a lengthy walk along the beach. We assume the black tidemarks are oil from the “Rena”. TFTC
Hoping to get pipis but we didn't time the tide right. Tide was high and just turning.
Another cache that I've been waiting to visit. Cut across the golf course, which was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday. Arrived at ground zone quickly. Spotted a possible hiding spot... and had the cache in hand soon after. TFTC.

Out for a long overdue caching day with my geobuddy, gorgeous spot. Found cache and also a lot of ugly roahes!!!!! Thanks for bringing us here.
Really love it out here - quite wild today with wind and crashing waves. last time i was out here was looking for cache spots to place a cache tracks and whole area was really wet but not today and tracks seem to be in better condition and getting more use.
Had a great afternoon collecting the beach caches thanks.

Walked to GZ in a chilly late afternoon breeze. Bush bashed the last bit through the long grass and stumbled upon the track which made the rest of the walk much easier. Easy find once there TFTC.
Nice walk out to the spit - even managed a little run as my boys were running a marathon from Wanaka to Arrowtown today (Motutapu)- I only ran about 50 metres. Nice fund at the end of it

LEAP DAY CACHE!!!!!!!
Have kept this cache find in reserve for a whole month just so that we would have a cache to do on the 29th of Feb,
every time we checked caches closest to home this one would pop up, now finally it has been found, and nice to top it off with a milestone find too.
Thanks MacRoss for the pleasant reason for an evening walk, We took our Subway and ate as we walked along the track.
After the find we carried on to the beach and walked back along the high tide mark past the numerous fishermen who were eagerly awaiting the turn of the tide, one old fella held us up for at least 30 minutes telling us pretty much his life story of drilling jobs in Taupo and numerous pub fights and encounters with skin heads and gang members, all very fascinating!!
Much enjoyed.
TNLN TFTC!!!

Great location - used to live in Ohope, but had never walked to the end of the spit (whilst a muggle). Thanks Mac Ross, for getting me out here!
TFTC...and as Geckoh would say: a podium finish! Maybe a bit more of that, and caching, coming up, now that me and my laptop have reconnected!
nzyetje
Found New Zealand Bug with Mini Cooper car attached.

No-one wants to go to town just to go to the Dentist .... so thank you Mac Ross for providing a pleasant diversion! The sun shone, the breezes were mild, the golfers were happy and the pukekos were scatty, the fruiting blackberries kept off the path, and little orange butterflies sparkled along the way!
We didn't see any Dotterels but were fascinated by an enormus cloud of Godwits wheeling in the sky towards Tern Island!
Left Mini TB tho' realised you can't ride it down the track!!!

[black]Recieved notification of the cache this morning, but had other things planned. Still no logs posted this afternoon, so a quick walk down to the cache, to find a (very) blank logbook. Pleasantly surprised to log FTF Care when replacing container, as it will easily be squashed TFTC
