6605. Out on another cycling outing today. Decided to make the trip to Rabbit Island from Tahuna. This was cache number nineteen for the day. Found the cache after a bit of a search. Thought it was a bit tricky but it wasn't until we went to log our find that we found out it was archived and used to be a lot easier! it is still there and waiting to be found by someone else with persistence like ours! Thanks for the cache and the exercise. Rodney and Iris.

Congratulations!!! Well done!!! I'll leave it there in case anyone else wants to find it.

Oh no! Surprised

06-Sep-14
This area has been recently logged, and the cache has probably gone.

06-Sep-14
Troodles was sensible enough to not bother looking. I ventured (with some difficulty) to GZ. I found plenty of new stumps (see photo), but no old ones. Suspect this cache is gone burger.

09-Aug-14
Good eyes by miss macdup spotted this one. tftc

Last find of the day, now for the ride back to the car. Found on a bit of a bike ride from Richmond to Rabbit Island, and almost Mapua (if we had made the ferry). Thanks for the hide.

Team geopopNZ assault on the back end of the rabbit. A wonderful Nelson day, great fun on the bikes, and caching to add to the exciting mix. Thanks for your cache - we've had a wonderful day. There's lots more - so we'll be back for more fun on the rabbit!!

01-Dec-13
Out on the bikes. GPS a bit fluffy under the trees but eventually settled down for a simple find. Good one, thanks.

07-Nov-13

On Rabbit Island for day 2 of the National MTB Orienteering Champs. The start of the event was about 50m from the cache. After the event I came back and searched, and searched and searched! The GPS was jumping all over the place, but luckily I eventually found the right spot. TFTC

28-Sep-13

04-Aug-13
GPS very off round here, but with the help of the hint, found quickly. Lovely still day out at the Big Rabbit.

04-Aug-13
It did seem lucky to find this with reception so bad. Luckily the cache point is sufficiently obvious. Thanks Smile

16-May-13
Nice hide and lovely day out. TFTH

12-May-13
Found while on a walk in the area

12-May-13
I've had this one on the radar for ever to feels. A stunning day and the prospect of many of my unfound caches being disabled with the upcoming logging provided the incentive today. GPS led me staight to it so very lucky with all the alignment today. TFTC #4795

05-May-13
found it

27-Apr-13
No trouble finding it, TFTC

27-Apr-13

Lots of people passing by to get the ferry still didn't notice me off track a bit Smile

20-Mar-13
Wandercat was very surprised to be able to go straight to this one. Absolutely no problems!

19-Mar-13
found with wandercat. Not as hard as thought it may be to find in forested nondescript country.
Enjoyed the bike and ferry ride. This area caters so well for cyclists.

25-Feb-13
Found it in sunny sunday during last day out before apple sezone Smile TFTC Smile

26-Jan-13

01-Jan-13
Lovely bile ride

24-Dec-12
Actually quite hard to find as everyone else who's looked for this will testify...gps very unreliable....but with the help of the hint and some systematic searching, managed a find. YAY!

15-Dec-12
Easy find. TFTC!!

07-Dec-12
Found after drying out and lunching over the estuary with Marchwood and Wildeybeast. TFTC

07-Dec-12
Found with Grumpy Ant and Wildeybeast. Came out for a walk along the beach and a ferry ride for a coffee. Got rained on. Our UK visitors aren't convinced that we live in a Tropical paradise just yet.

Had lunch across the esturary, dried out and then came back for the find. Left a TB.

04-Dec-12
Took a little hunting to find this one, but found it in the fairly obvious spot once I got close enough. Done on an 8km loop walk. Cheers Gav

02-Dec-12
Third one out here today . Nice spot. Thanks for the cache.

16-Nov-12
Out with Mrs BaldEd cyclocaching Rabbit Island. The gps led us a merry little dance here but we eventually spiraled into the cache. It was very well hidden. T4TC.

16-Oct-12
This became unlucky dip.

01-Oct-12
Last time we attempted this cache we logged a DNF after a brief search and not much time to look as it was getting on to gate closing time. Today we had all the time we needed for a thorough search. As we arrived at GZ the Mapua ferry arrived with muggles but eventually they moved off and the search began in earnest. With Hazedarus checking where I had searched and me checking where he had searched it was only a matter of time before one of us found it, in this case he did in an area we hadn't tried today at that stage, not sure if we did last time though. A very pleasant walk along a favourite track to get here. TFTC.

01-Oct-12
Finally we got this monkey of our back Cool With a DNF early on and a good day today for a Rabbit Island walk with Holymu this cache was on the 'must-do' list and first in line. There was no real time constraint so after arriving at GZ the electronics were left ample time to do their thing, all three of them Red Face The end result was a search at the same spot as last time Sad However, a search pattern was applied and one would check the other every step of the way. Ultimately at a spot that hadn't been searched yet today the cache was finally in hand Big Grin With so many potential hiding places and GPS readings a bit wonky it has been a true challenge and a most enjoyable one at that. TFTC

27-Jul-12
DNF Sad GPS was giving me the run-about, so after a quick search of some likely spots I bailed.

07-Jul-12
Missed finding this one while out on MTB ride. Number of muggles around waiting for the Ferry. Alos getting late as still got to ride home. Will return another day.

17-Jun-12
After reading a few DNF logs I was thinking this maybe the hardest of the day, but no it was straight forward.

Given our dismall record at finding caches by this C.O. , we must have been lucky to find this one. Surprisingly, given the cover, coords were pretty good for us this time. Whew! Thanks for the excuse to get the bike out. Now....lotto.....

04-Jun-12
With the gate closing soon there was no unlimited time but a thorough search was conducted. All obvious places were checked wherever the GPS decided to point us. Erratic isn't the word. With two GPS and them being up to 23m different GZ become to large for the time available considering the amount of "obvious" hiding places. Couldn't find the pic and hints referred to in your Feb post. Any excuse to visit the island is welcome so we'll be back.

04-Jun-12
Just a note that the cache has been moved as the stump it was in had disappeared. The picture of the dead tree it was near has been removed from the listing as it was felt it was no longer needed as a hint, although a dead tree still has something to do with the placement.

04-Jun-12
Not a lot of time to search for this cache due to the time factor with gates closing at 5.15pm, both GPS's were very erratic and neither zeroing out at all. We had a look in all the likely places within the area the GPS indicated but nothing found. Incidently I don't have a photo on my cache page as mentioned in your log of 10-2-12, whether this might have helped is a moot point. We will no doubt return to this end of the island at some stage but not likely to be soon.

Coordinates changed from:
S 41° 15.379 E 173° 06.367

Coordinates changed to:
S 41° 15.380 E 173° 06.360

Distance from original: 32.6 feet or 9.9 meters.

We were in the area, so thought a cache check was in order. We were surprised to discover that the cache was just where it had been placed, but the stump had completely disappeared!!!!! I guess a couple of kicks was all it needed. Shifted the cache a short distance. The reason for the name is no more but - - - that's its name!!! Enjoy!!!

06-May-12
Final find of the day. Met Sidewaze at the cache site before she changed the co-ordinates of the cache which helped us hit the jackpot without lucky dipping.Cool

06-May-12
No lucky dip today as we met Sidewaze checking the status of this cache. We were able to sign log before the cache was relocated.

29-Apr-12
Much easier with a real GPS found it instantly this time - a lucky dip maybe? An enjoyable family bike ride. TFTC.

29-Apr-12
Thanks sidewaze enjoyed doing this cache Actually ive enjoyed all of the caches on rabbit island its such a neat place to take the family. Back to the cache hunted around all the obvious places to no avail just about to give up than find by juniors friend. Thanks again.

21-Apr-12
Nice One!!!!!!!!A morning island ride, lunch time pinic on a bluff overlooking the Mapua harbour and then an afternoon ride with the Grandkids. Doesn't get any better. Big bonus, cache only 120m from picnic spot. No worries with the find. E co-ordinates spot on, S a bit out. Much fun! Thanks

09-Apr-12
Not our lucky day today… will come back some other time.

13-Feb-12
Well even with all the reminders we both forgot to look at the photo on the cache page before we left !!!! so after wandering in we wandered a little trying to get the gps to settle down and after spying a likely tree wandered a little more before the gps put me close and I managed to spy the cache !!! Yay 40 mins from leaving the car to signing log - a slower walk out with a diversion to the beach for a little walking in water therapy !!! enjoyed the walk up this end of the island again - thanks for the cache Smile

12-Feb-12
Not so lucky for us today. GPS on the phone struggled big time. We now have a good excuse for another enjoyable bike ride though.

12-Feb-12
Wasn't so sure how this was going to go but decided the day was cool enough for a nice walk. Wandered our way up the island as we have a few times before. A really enjoyable day for the walk with a few cyclists on the track. Got to GZ after our 40 minute amble and the GPS was doing a bit of a jumping about but when it settled down and directed us to our prize (spotted by Niteowlnz) Glad we had used a GPS as the phones seam to have a lot of troubles here!
Completed the cache and wandered to the embarkation point for some and viewed the plans for the extended walkway Smile TFTC

10-Feb-12
Tricky little hide. Perhaps the trees distorted the signal. Kept getting "within 2 meters" signals which jumped to "within 14 meters" and following the GPS in circles. Eventually found with a little help...TFTC

10-Feb-12
Mrs SoBad joined the CO and Libitee on a walk to the end of the island. Didn't put the GPS in her pocket - had 3 GPS's in action to help the search. With trees and drizzle, these gave three different areas to check, with success at the second with the type of hide she had expected. Here our GPS read 9m but another read 3m!! Go figure. The wind we faced at the start and the drizzle at the end were both moderated by the trees so she had a great walk to finish the week. Dropped a trackable. Thanks.

10-Feb-12
After Biggles' comments it seemed like a good idea to revisit this one, so set about watching Mrs SoBad and Libitee undertake a search. The GPS reception was particularly bad, the 3 units giving wildly differing readings. After a few "don't bother looking over there" they wandered over to take a closer look at where I was standing and soon had the cache in hand. Have added a picture and a couple of hints to ensure that the difficulty rating is more accurate. Dropped off a trackable that likes being near the ocean.

FTF SurprisedSurprised Back again this morning for another crack at this cache. Took my bike today as I hadn't realised yesterday that the weekday restrictions on biking the track had been lifted. That made for a much quicker trip to the area of GZ. Still a very slow process of finding the cache though. So many options to examine.. I was on what I'd convince myself was a final sweep of the area before giving up and heading off, when my hand finally struck plastic instead of dirt... Very relieved and pleased to find and sign a blank log book! TFTC, Biggles.

No luck for me today Sad
