Very sorry but we aren’t going to be able to get over to Golden Bay to check this cache so we are disabling it. Too many DNFs to continue.
With quite a few DNFs we have decided to disable this geocache until we are able to get over to Golden Bay and check it for ourselves. Unfortunately this may take some time but if any geocacher wants to have a look for it and finds it, please let us know. This has happened before and we’ve checked it and it’s still there, it’s just been moved slightly but in the same location with the same hint.
Sorry we gave it a good try but couldn’t find but can’t be sure we were in the right spot either so no help to you today.
My second time!
My second time!
No luck for us here today. Took quite a bit of time looking for it but nothing eventuated. Thanks anyway. The chikins from Brisbane.
Hi - we see there have been 2 DNFs in a row but this has happened before and when we’ve gone back to check it’s still there. It will be ages before we’re in Pohara again so we will disclose for now where the cache is and could the next person please have a really thorough look behind one of various piles of rocks on the ledge? Then we’ll know for sure whether to Disable it or not. Thank you!
Really wanted to get this one, it’s got a few fave points.
A chance encounter with other cachers later on our trip confirmed we were in the right spot, but this is gone. I saw just a pen. Of course I checked to see if there was a log in there, and there wasn’t. I’ve seen ones like that before….. another day.

Had a great adventure, and saw some awesome scenery.
Found a pile of stones that looked promising, and a pen on the ground below it.
But could not find the cache.

SJT_NZ headed off one way and I headed another, after a reread of the description finally got to the GZ, it is quite overgrown but after a lengthy search good to finally have a smilie, thanks Alien Kiwis, all in good order.
Found with Tregearp. The GPSr was having trouble with reception, but a hint in the description led me to a spot that offered the appropriate options. I opted for the under approach on the way to the GZ which was quite overgrown - but there was an obviously out of location candidate for what could be a cache which once there proved to the case - and also explained the cache name. All in good order, signed the log and replaced as found. Took the over route on the way out. Thanks Alien Kiwis for prompting us to discover this amazing area, and an FP for the enjoyment of finding the GZ and smile when discovering the cache and recognition of the cache name.
In the South Island from Tauranga on a six week holiday and now following the PWGT. I hope to have the tour completed before I get home. Another bonus to get this cute fella. Fp
A stunning day. Many Thanks. Found dislodged put back where should be.
I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

A nice quick find thanks. A nice bit of scrambling to get to GZ. A fav point for the fun!
Found as we explored more of Golden Bay. A great day for it, fairly quiet on the roads and on the walks.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Well this took a bit of hunting! Followed the line but as we got closer i was being bounced all over the place and too far away to start a search! After a while i managed to start getting closer. In such an area i was picking my way through carefully but still struggling to find the cache until i happened upon a certain area in which i made my find .
I had all ready looked here once but i was showing too far away so didnt look closely, thankfully i rechecked. Thanks for the cache.

This took a bit of a hunt and even with Stretch0 taking the high way and me taking the in and through approach we were still coming up empty but with perseverance we got there in the end1!! - log signed - thanks for bring us to an area of this reserve we hadn't explored before
Went down with the kids, they were pretty excited by the giant's spoons (nikau palm fronds) and we had a great time hunting witches.
So sad to not find either of these caches. But a wonderful place to play and explore. The trees are amazingly large here.
An excellent hide location and a wonderful piece of natural landscape. I chose the under and through approach on the way out and over the top on the way back. I can see why this location attracts so many favourite points.
I see how the cache gets its name!! Wasn’t too sure about the final access point but it turned out to be pretty safe! TFTC
Very excited. Two years ago we couldn’t find it and logged a dnf but today after a bit if a search and following the clues we found it! Cool cache thanks!
Wow, what an amazing spot. Diziet and Skaffen found this on a warm spring day. TFTC.
What a nice place. Beautiful cache. GPS bouncing a bit. Thank you very much for the cache. We really enjoyed it.
We searched and scrambled and scrambled and searched but no luck. With the microcachers in tow it was a little too nerve wracking to hunt for too long. A shame we couldn’t find it but still enjoyed our walk.
This one took a bit of finding but worth the effort to find this fun cache. Thanks
As said in previous logs and for previous caches on this trip - these rock formations are amazing. GPS bouncing around and got a little lost at one stage. The hide was great and was our 400th cache. Favourite point for us. TFTC.
Removed the old cache container which had previously gone missing and now all good to go. Next time I’ll bring some garden shears and do a bit of tall weed maintenance! Enjoy
Had to bring my daughter and her friends over to Golden bay so after dropping them off in Takaka it was off to grab some carnival caches. Nice little walk in and then stunning view out over Golden bay from the lookout. Then a quick scramble and a little search and cache in hand. Thanks for bringing me to this special place. Definitely a fav. And thanks for the cache.
The last-but-one visitor found our old geocache container, which had gone missing, and put it near the new one so just be aware if you find the unusual “container” which is an amphibian (with a wet log I hear) that’s the old version. If you find a different container that’s black and white, that’s the new one, so please sign THAT log and ignore the old one! Until we can get over to the Bay at Easter we can’t remove the old one sorry!
We climbed and crawled between the rocks and looked in all the deep throats and crevices but could not find neither the old nor the new Container. After quite a while we called it a day. It's a great place here. We saw so many faces in the rocks, even one of our former Bundeskanzlers . So we thad a lot of fun. Thanks for the cache and greetings from two German geocachers travelling beautiful New Zealand
We found the old cache and container as well, including a soaked log, while thinking it was the replacement. The new container was found while putting the old one back. I placed it on a nearby shelf from the new container. Cool vegetatation in this area and a few fantails that we awesome as always. TFTC
We followed the instructions and ended up the wrong chasm. Ste spent ages up in a little cave looking everywhere. We relocated yo an area at tge bottom of the steps from the main path. One there it was an easy find and a lot less caving like than our original site. Tftc. Nice container made us smile.
Replaced the geocache container with an even better one, as the previous one had indeed gone walkabout. Enjoy!
I’m disabling this cache temporarily until we can get over to the Bay and check its whereabouts next month.
Scrambled in every direction, some pretty dangerous, but could not find it. Gps would not settle again.
I really wanted to find this cache today as there are not that many with 40+ FPs that I've not found in these parts.
Got to 0m on my GPS and calibrated my man-boob height in the area I found myself, but nothing doing for me today.

Today we visited the Grove. This one seemed like a good challenge and it took a while to find. GPS doesn’t like all these rocks. So first climbed high to get a better idea of the final. After some exploring around I got closer and closer. Then finally found it and giggled. THanks for this fun rock exportation.
No problem with this one, GPS took us right to it, we were surprised and giggled when we found it so gets a fav from us. croak. TFTC.
Six of us looked and looked but to no avail. Went back through all the activity to get clues but still no luck. Better luck next time.
Looked everywhere, my phone wasn't helping (the dates in the logs were 2019??!) and people everywhere... I get so frustrated when I can't find geocaches! But will be back one day. Thanks
Sent Gorgeous Goose ahead to clear the cobwebs, required some searching as our GPS wasn't very precise today. Great cache container.
Yay.. a don't use jandals jandals mission. Haha cool spot.. Cool cache. Lil Marley had to sir in truck for this one!! Fave from me
Taybeedragon, Zara and I are on a three day geocaching extravaganza in Golden Bay, curtesy of Her Majesty. Happy birthday Liz!
I had suggested we start with the East Takaka Road, a route I have travelled before and really enjoyed. Which brings us here. What an awesome place! They funny thing is even if the vegetation was removed and it was just rock and, say, grass, it would still be awesome! Does that mean it is more awesome than awesome as it is at the moment? Added a favourite, and I have probably added a path tag.

The Seagnoid, Zara and I are off for an adventure to Golden Bay. The Seagnoid is navigator and Zara and I pair up getting us from A to B??
Hey this place is awesome. The views and rocks are amazing. Love the cache container. Crawling to get there was a bugger. Wanted a photo of the roots hanging down the rock face so decided to go up there to get it. Bugger my sandel got stuck in the rocks. The Seagnoid came to my rescue, having a good fight with the rock on who was going to keep my sandel. Thankfully the Seagnoid won this one. Cheers

Found today with Dad after a short walk. There was someone reading a book just around the corner from GZ and I thought he might have been right on top of the cache! But luckily determination paid off and the GPS zeroed in away from him and I found it. Great place to read a book and great weather - pleased to finally get back up here (and tick this off the map ). Today we visited this beautiful place and searched for quite a while for this cache. But then we realised that we have to go further and that children definitely would have advantage in approaching the geocache Tftc Sprunghörnchen
WE are keen geocachers on holiday from Tauranga and grabbing a few smileys as we go. Great place for a cache and even better camo. What a view! TFTC
We found this geocache during our great NZ trip with our dad GlobeCacher.de, please see his log for details.

En mode promenade kastique dans ce coin. Cela ressemble à quelques endroits de part chez nous mais avec une toute autre végétation.
Après quelques minutes de recherche, on commence à grimper par ci par là pour enfin mettre la main sur kermit

What a tasty cache . Awesome spot and nice hiding. Still was very wet, we did our best to dry it, has a new piece of paper now. A Favorit! TFTC
We are traveling around New Zealand. We are so glad that we can discover this beautiful country. We enjoy it so much. This cache was found during our travel.
Thank you. Greetings from Czech Republic

I see that the geocache container is very wet, which is strange as it should be well under cover at all times...but as we don't live in Golden Bay, we won't get over there for a few weeks. If the next visitor reads this in time, would they be kind enough to take a tissue to dry out the little container (bison tube within a bigger container) and small roll of paper to use as a temporary log sheet till we get over there? Hope someone can help. Thanks!
Very nice to visit this place again after an absence of a year or so. One cache goes, another takes its place. A bit of scrabbling around without signal for a while, then with a bit of hopping and not too much croaking, it was found. The log is very wet. TFTC.
We tried this as a night cache some time ago but thought the better of it with only mediocre lights. After a successful day caching further afield there was enough daylight left to give it a go once more. Initially I turned around very close to the cache and started a most enjoyable search that reminded me of times caving. We were drawn back to where we started and investigating just a little bit further produced the cache. A fav. Thank you Allien Kiwis
We had previously visited this area at night so didn't attempt to make the find of this cache when we saw the terrain. Today we returned in bright sunlight so no torches needed, just patience to out wait the tourists also enjoying the area and performing all sorts of gymnastics to get "that" memorable photo.
Eventually we had the place to ourselves and could perform our own gymnastics to get to GZ but our search produced nothing so back to searching anything logical. Then I noticed something just a little bit further afield and in just a minute or so we were signing a very wet log, if a couple of scratched H's constitutes signing. Unfortunately we didn't have anything with us to leave a dry log.
Thank you Alien Kiwis.

Amazing formations of rocks. Such a great location and the kids really enjoyed exploring the area. The combination of a dead phone battery and fading day light meant we will have to come back another day for the other cache on the track.
Quick clamber around the rocks to find this cache. Thanks for placing the cache. Cool hide.
Ninalila and I took a few days off to visit around takaka and warariki beach.
The walk was really nice and short, but we took a long time so we could take some good pictures.

fefe.adrien and I spent two days between Golden Bay and Cape Farewell. It was the opportunity to visit the famous Grove close to Takaka, amazing sedimentary rocks eroded and curious shapes of plants which are trying to reach the light. A fascinating place to see, not touristic.

Found while Team Walker NZ were on a Summer tour across Tasman to Golden Bay - enjoy sun, sea and sights. Happy New Year and all the best for 2016.
After surviving the storm of the previous night in the tent (18ltrs of water IN the tent!) we headed to the very soggy Grove. What a beautiful place! Said dampness made for lots of mud, slipping and wet clothes - all the more fun!
Mr W made the find here and we all loved the journey. TFTC + 1 from us.

Great little cache in Christmas Day. Thought I'd never find it. Was considering scaling the walls but after a second look around it want as hard as that. Found with jamie&finn and both families. Tftc
We eventually worked out where to go for this cache, and manipulated our elderly bodies under the obstacle. It then took us quite a while to locate the cache. A fun find in an interesting location, so a favourite from us. TFTC
In the area for a few days, enjoying the wonderful scenery and finding some caches along the way.
Loved the walk through this area. Fascinating! And the GZ area was a real buzz. I went 'under' both ways. I think I would have really struggled with 'over'.
Many thanks for the very fitting cache Allen Kiwis.

Find #2423. Exploring Tasman district for a few days, this my first day in Takaka. Had visited The Grove about 10 years ago and was looking forward to exploring it again. Chose the 'over' route first, took the 'under' route to go back. Great place for a cache. SL TFTC
On a great sunny Sunday. Beautiful weather, not cloud in sight, I soon spotted the deep throat. Had to show to the rest of our party of visitors to the Grove. TFTC

NZDi and I have been planning a long weekend in Golden Bay for a month or so and today these plans came into fruition. Of course a long weekend out of town would not be complete without the odd cache thrown in and so a few caches were planned along the way. The weather back in Blenheim had been crap all week and the forecast for the weekend was not that flash either, however as soon as we got across the Whangamoa's we could see this part of the country was bathed in sunshine.
This is day three of our Golden Bay caching weekend and the plan was to visit The Grove, Rawhiti Cave, The Labyrinths and the Milnthorpe Park with a few random cache to link them all together.
After getting The Grove cache, this one had me both intrigued and apprehensive. Intrigued for the cache name and apprehensive for the D/T rating. Approaching GZ it looked like we were going to have to go through 'there'. Despite being smaller, NZDi sent me through for the hunt while she stayed and kept a look-out for muggles. Fortunately, a good set of coordinates and hint had me with the 'different' cache container in-hand rather quickly, with a better understanding of the cache name.
TFTC Alien Kiwis, a FP from me.

Hello from England. After enjoying the free, fun Labyrinth KARST "Maze" nearby, we then came on to the groovy Grove! These rock formations were far bigger, but less twisting. The view at the end over the plains and across the sea was fab. We then headed towards this cache. The more agile of us did the up and over route, but then flailed around for a bit before making the find. Ah, so that is why the cache is named as it is! TFTC [5287]
It's been many years since we had been to Golden Bay, and a long weekend seemed an ideal time to reacquaint ourselves with the area (and find a few caches as well ).
A fantastic spot to visit and two geocaches to find, what more could we ask for? We enjoyed the views from the lookout then carried on to look for the cache. StreetWalker first had a look in one area, then decided that it wasn't quite GZ so carried on a bit further. I followed and was still deciding whether I should try the under or over approach, when he found the cache and brought it back to me for signing duties.
Great cache name, very apt, and another fav point. TFTC.

#8444. We started by going to the lookout and admiring the views; it was surprising how far we had climbed. Reception wasn't great on approaching GZ and initially I made a side trip that proved fruitlessly. Troodles then read something in a past log that indicated we needed to carry on, and once over the obstacle I was soon at GZ and located the nicely hidden cache. TFTC.
