How much litter is there here? And how much moth plant!!!As I pulled into the picnic area we were greeted by 2 chickens, and then one of them decided to charge at the car. At that point we weren't sure we dared to get out to look for the cache. Luckily I drove just past them and they carried on scratching the grass.A quick find where I expected it to be. It wasn't hidden but there was so much litter I suppose it blends in!
A solo excursion for Mr Coblet.I was on my way to Te Rau Puriri Regional Park and couldn't resist stopping here on the way to find this cache.I'm so pleased that I did because what looked to be a rest stop turned out to be so much more with a wonderful view, a group of friendly chickens and a little walkway with very interesting information boards.I spotted a likely hiding spot but came up empty handed but then paid better attention to the coordinates and made a quick find. Thanks Darby&Joan for bringing me to this hidden gem.
Today I was on a mission as part of Team G0LD to Te Rau Puriri Regional Park on South Kaipara Head, to hopefully clear all the caches there and as many more as possible on the peninsula.
With the Te Rau Puriri mission successfully completed, it was on to the rest of the local caches despite the very hot day. Really glad for the aircon in the cache mobile in between caches.
Once at GZ, Lis made a relatively quick find at the base of a tree I had looked higher in. Pity about the burnt out car in the parking area to spoil the view. TFTC

Out with team Gold today (0B80B8 and LisCrew) collecting a few caches in the area. Nice quick find in a lovely small park. Shame about the burnt out car in the car park. TFTC
Team G0LD (Geocachers: 0B80B8, Lis's crew and DaffyNZ) were on a mission today. The primary target was the cache rich Te Rau Puriri Regional Park at South Head. We were aiming to get our final mountain souvenir all done and dusted as well as filling an entire area on our maps with yellow smiles.
We couldn't resist a few quick grabs on the roadside on the way to and from the park. Lots of information boards around which we didn't have time to read. We tried to work out the make of the burnt out car in the pull off area but I had no idea. A quick find here but at the base rather than in the fork.
Overall it was a very hot day with temps 28-30°C. We only copped a few brief spats of rain and I found 49 caches. My souvenir well and truly achieved. Certainly a pretty lot of smiles too. Thanks for your cache today

Another one that I missed on an earlier foray. I almost missed it again to day, but then heard a telltale sound of the cache as I poked around. TFTC.
What a great spot to stop and check out. Someone has left a rather interesting note in the cache which made us smile. After signing the log we admired the view
Simply stunning views over the wetlands. The signs are almost unreadable but the cache page is still good to bring us here, so thanks Darby and Joan!
Shame many of the info boards have faded, but still a lovely stop. TFTC at this spot- agree it needed a cache. There is a note in cache from someone curious to know more but didnt leave any details.
As we pulled in to the parking area we were met by a group of friendly chickens - if they could have they would have jumped into the car. We were on a mission here to find a cache, so left the chickens and headed off to gz where the cache was soon spotted.
Have been enjoying the quiet of the roads down this way and a nice easy pull in to park and search. There were a few 'wild' roosters caring for a couple of hens and a large-ish brood of chicks. Took in the available views and added name to log here. T F T C D&J
Last day of the weekends aims and a trip out to South Head was on the agenda, and a welcome option too. We were off at a decent time and welcomed the quieter roads after the busy-ness out at Bethells and Wainamu yesterday, A nice drive out with plenty of great views and noted a few cache placement options for next time we head out too. A bonus side-track lake at Ototoa/Rototoa was another of those wouldn't have known if not for Geocaching moments, nice.
It's been a pretty uninspiring week at work this week so I was hankering for a weekend of stimulation. So I took Friday off as annual leave and had a hope for 3 days of exploring and getting out (and a few caches thrown in for good measure).
Great day with awesome weather, which was the theme for the weekend and had a great time.

Is good to be FTF something: like this replacement log. Booyah. Now found all three on the peninsular. Will come back to van camp Rototoa Lake, or maybe just a motorbike ride to Sherly Beach. Beauty. Tftc.

Called by to check on cache and it has gone. Have changed its hide position. Co-ords updated and hint.
# 1876 On the way for the next leg of our trip. Stopped here in the pouring rain for a bikkie and a view. I ventured around all hint items to no avail. Finally found the log sheet discarded by the stairs. No sign of a container. Cleaned up the log and put in a baggie and placed under the likely hint item. Hopefully it will survive until a container can be provided.
Called by today. Cache is gone. Think when they use weedeaters, its dislodging the cache. Have replaced with camo pill bottle. Please wedge it in to see if it can elude the next lot of weed eating. Thank You.
Searched all possible hiding places but no luck. Found where it could have been.
Nice easy find, fantastic view, pity the information placards haven't been replaced.
In Auckland for work for a couple of days but with spare time today. I headed north and west to places I haven't been to for years, if ever. The weather was very unpredictable, generally blustery with showers getting blown in the wind too. I managed to stay fairly dry given the conditions. No muggles about to day but I did seem to attract the attention of a bunch (flock?) of chickens that seemed to be occupying the area. A few potential hint objects about but only one which concealed a cache. TFTC, Biggles.
I was able to spend several hours out and about tracking down hides today. Not to forget the matter of enjoying a drive in rural west Auckland. While the day started off with clouds and a bit of drizzle it is starting to heat up now. Anyway, I parked up in the car park and made the short walk down to GZ. While there were many potential spots to check, one looked most promising. Indeed, the cache was found in the first spot I examined. I took the time to check out the info signs, but they have all succumbed to the elements (or otherwise) so that was a bit disappointing. Anyway, cheers for the cache placement!
With nobody around this was an easy find after eyeing up the potential suspects and pick g the most likely
The Kaipara Council were making it hard today having mowed the grass and piled it up against all the rocks!!! Even sadder was finding that the information boards had deteriorated and were virtually unreadable. The chooks were fine though....Thanks
We wanted to find 3 caches today to add to our tally on this date, but one of us has work. There happen to be 3 caches that we haven't found up towards South Kaipara Head, so the other went for a drive.
We had a previous DNF on this cache, and at first it was looking like another one was on the cards. The GPS pointed to a rock that had very nice hiding places underneath - but no cache. Widened the search a little and spotted the cache tucked into a much smaller hide. Pleased to have turned the unhappy blue face to a yellow smile. Thanks.

Quick stop to enjoy view and some Kai. A few chucks around to share my feed. Quick find once the right rock was located. TFTC
You need to stop making the cache container out of chicken feed. I think the chickens got it again.
I invited them over for dinner, but none accepted.

Stopped here on the way back from playing a round of golf at South Head. Found plenty of hint items in the long long grass but did not uncover the cache. Maybe another day.
As we pulled in here our car was followed by more and more chickens. By the time we stopped there were a dozen or more at the door of the car waiting for us. Unfortunately we had no treats for them. We asked them for help with the cache and they headed off so we followed them. Unfortunately they went in the wrong direction so we followed the GPS on the phone instead and they followed us. We examined a number of different objects that matched the hint, and finally found the cache in place that had previously been searched. As we left the chickens stood on the tabletop to wave us off. Found with darthcacher1 and purply.
On a day out caching with Keylev today and whilst the northern most cache on this peninsula was our key target today, we meandered back towards Auckland via all the other caches around this area. Stopped here and initially thought we were going to have to contend with a car load of muggles, but they soon drove off. We also got a clucking-good welcome, including someones pet rabbit! Not sure how long he will last out here, so sad to see people dumping their animals.
The cache probably took longer than it should have, Keylev had momentary cache blindness and it wasn't until I lay down on the grass that I spied the little blighter right at GZ! Log signed and half a muffin was donated to the rather raucous locals, then we were on our way. TFTC!

Mrs NZT and I set out north on a day trip to grab a few caches in peace. After a slightly delayed start due to a quick trip to the doctor after laval fell off a bouncy castle and hit his head very hard we were free to go and had a great day.
Oh my goodness this one took much longer than it should have. We arrived and saw a bunny which we assume had been left by owner as it was really quite tame and let us get very close to it...so sad to think about it. We then headed where the gps was pointing and checked a number of items mentioned in the hint before Mrs NZT re-checked the first place I had looked and found it!! Doh!
Thanks for the cache.

Had to get this on my way back as there was a muggle sitting at the table when I was heading up earlier. Nice quick find, TFTC
No burnt out wreck here unless you count me, in this heat and humidity I feel a bit burnt out. Like the last finder we were met by the welcoming committee, quite a few roosters makes us suspect someone is dumping their boys here. There's a few ladies too so perhaps it's just a colony on the build. Hopefully there's enough to keep them fed, we had nothing for them.
Coordinates were pointing to just the right spot so we knew where we were to look. Mrs Tuolei spotted this one from afar while I used my hands - quicker with her 20/20 vision. Thanks for the cache, all good here.

On my way to Shelly-Beach I saw this spot and knew I had to stop I my way back. Had a welcome committee and a beautiful view! Thanks!
Took the mother goose out for the afternoon, enjoyed exploring more of our local back yard.
After DNF'ing this one last week, I emailed fotos to the CO to confirm the cache was destroyed and they gave urbangypsynz permission to replace the cache so today, four of us met at the GZ to sign the new one in. To welcome us was a freshly and completely burnt out car which had been set fire in the wee hours of this morning....bloody morons....and a brood of skinny chickens. TFTC on Streak Day #375
I knew a group of us were heading up this way today so sought permission to replace the cache. The nice views were spoilt by a recently burnt out car, feel for the poor owners holidaying in the area.
A plan had been worked on over the last week or so for myself, urbangypsynz, jard1027 and supernanny to head north to South Head to collect a few caches here and there. A few of us had found this or that cache but we collaborated to get all the unfound caches so far at this time north of Parakai. This spot was our meet up point, jard in his car, supernanny in hers and me and urban in her car. Jard and supernanny had other commitments a little later so that left me and urban to carry on later.
When we arrived here the first thing we noticed was the scrawny looking chickens! About 10 of them I suppose ran out of the bushes to greet us! Unfortunately I had nothing for them to eat, then we noticed the smell from the burnt out stolen car. We looked at that for awhile then started to serch where the old cache might have been. Jard found the old container alright, but it was munted. So we knew we had the right spot. So as planned urban pulled out a replacement cache and we signed in those that needed to.
Then others showed up to look at the stolen burnt out wreck. The locals knew whose car it was (they lived in Mangere) apparently the firemen arrived in time (about 5am) to douse the fire before the petrol tank exploded!
So after that drama we departed to head more north to another cache, thanks D&J for allowing us to replace the cache, hopefully it will stay here a little longer.

Had a good look round here and found what looks like a destroyed cache container but nothing else. I will send the CO fotos to confirm.
StewSleuth and my new friend BeeBee and I searched for this for quite awhile, but no luck. BeeBee and her husband Rod have a horse treking business in the area. We were on our way to their house to visit and go for a ride when we thought we"d introduce BeeBee to GCing! Too bad we didn't find it.
Bummer! This was going to be my first find in NZ, but guess it wasn't meant to happen. Mililani, BeeBee, and myself searched around all the rocks. The grass is very high, but no luck for any of us.
I get the feeling this one has disappeared again! Sure I found the two likely locations but couldn't come up with cache in hand. Seems to go missing regularly but hopefully I was just looking in the wrong area. Won't mind coming back here though, great looking picnic spot!
Called by today, confirmed it had gone. We have replaced with a new cache. Happy Hunting.
I've wanted to head up the South head of the Kaipara harbour for a while now, so made the plan to head up and find the caches while I was up this way visiting family. Having spent a fair amount of time fishing on the Kaipara harbour when I was younger I had viewed the South head from afar but never explored it. The old man tagged along for the trip also.
Spent 20mins looking for this one and checked all possible options in a 20m radius. Spotted something that fitted with the hint and some of the logs but nothing was there.

Called by to check on this one, as we had only replaced it a few weeks ago. Surely it wasn’t gone !!??
Phew, it’s still in place. Happy hunting.

Having just landed back into NZ and am staying out this way with friends, I thought I'd stop for a rest here and to find a cache. Sadly no luck. I think I found the right spot but it was empty. Bummer
I was running early to meet someone further up the coast so I had some time up my sleeve to search for this cache. Great location in the dawn light, great placement also - well done. TFTC!!
Called by today to check on this one. Definitely gone. We have replaced it with a brand new cache. All good to go.
We were driving past this afternoon so decided to see if we could spot this cache, but with 3 DNFs we did not hold out much hope. Checked a few hint items, especially the most obvious one, but couldn't find anything there. Think it must be missing.
Nice spot to stop on our journey. Checked all round the possible places matching the clue. Found an obvious spot, which fits previous log comments...but cache wasn't there. Has it been muggled?
#255 Was on a rare visit out this way to have a meeting with a client. Spent a little extra time during picking up some caches that are usually out of normal reach. Quickly found this one, awesome sight from here. Was chase around by the hungry chickens when I arrived.

Was out for a 5 hr mini road trip as I had morning off !
Decided to clear up some trads and multis round Parakai , Helensville and Kaukapakapa ....
Then I thought why not add this one at South Head !
Easy once I found right rock !
Had to stop on way up due to an animal road block !
Keen to return and do the walk when weather improves !
Very interested to read the info...esp about the Raupo growing nearby which was used to make rafts !
Thanks Darby and Joan !

12.00 noon. One lone chook took an interest in me. Interesting descriptions of bygone life in this area made the cache much more enjoyable. The hunt was quick once I stretched in somewhat. Left a signature pathtag.

Cache hide is perfect snake hole. But ... this is NZ and not AU so we are happy to grab the cache deep down ...
3rd in quick succession, 4 hrs 8 mins between 1 and 2. 4 mins between 2 and 3! TFTC.
Great place for a cache. Interesting history written up on the board here. Cheers for the cache.
