A quick find and pleasant detour off the black top. Cache was full of water with soggy unwritable log. Drained what I could from it and propped it up against its cover so hopefully it will stay less wet. Thanks Dragons Ring.

09-Apr-23
Small side trip to there and beyond after spending time with the Castle hill cave stream. No worries about wet feet as they were still soaked. Cache is still nice and snug though a little bit damp. TFTC

29-Dec-22
Pulled up and crossed the road, Hmm, water to cross - use a stone to step on.
But the stone was very silppery and as a result I got to feel the water temperature.
The important thing was the find and then a change of clothes!
Thanks

Nice wee spot. Thanks Bitsprayer

26-Mar-22
Thought I would take the most direct route from the road to GZ and ended up facing a wall of matagouri. Went to jump back across the stream and the grass gave way so I fell in!
Walked back down the road and saw a much easier route. No need to worry about crossing the stream again as my feet were already wet so I just walked through the shallow water.
Once at GZ, the cache was a quick find. TFTC.

03-Nov-21
Out geocaching instead of tramping. Nice hide. TFTC

We had planned a trip to Canterbury and Otago but an issue meant we couldn't go after all so a day trip was planned to Castle Hill area which had been on our wish list for some time then to grab a few more caches as we worked our way back to the West Coast.
We usually carry gumboots in the car for various reasons, not the least for caches like this. Hazedarus put his on before leaving the car but I decided to scope the possible crossings before putting mine on. As it turned out I found a track which enabled me to cross easily and keep dry feet.
The cache had water in it and log is wet here but we managed to write our initials ok.
Thank you Dragons Ring.

It was a perfect day for a look at the "to do-list" and a day trip followed. Turn around point was Castle Hill and some more caches along the road back to Arthur's Pass were earmarked. I couldn't see but certainly hear water so donned the gummies. Holymu did some homework on the surrounds and found an easy crossing. The cache was a quick find but it was hard to leave a mark on the log because it's sodden. Thank you Dragons Ring

Today’s leg in Janene our Jucy van is Christchurch to Punakiki, much more scenic than yesterday’s Dunedin to Christchurch and today the sun is shining, yesterday it was rain most of the day.

Such a lot of lovely places to stop on the way and loads of nice T caches too,, but travelling with s muggle I had to limit myself to Earthcaches only and close by trads.

Drive Janene to within a few metres if the cache and jumped the stream, and the muggle found the cache without any issue. Handy DT, TFTC

Nothing quite like an impromptu day trip up into the hills! The stream sure is refreshing... I hate matagouri... glad I spotted quickly after I got to GZ. TFTC (3642)

Together with Fenz i had the pleasure to visit New Zealand. We were traveling around for quite some time and thought: Why not combine that with some geocaching! That doubled the fun and we found a lot nice places we wouldnt have, if we werent looking for the boxes invisible to the other tourists. For details on our cache finds see the logs of Fenz. We want to thank all the owners for their effort, the nice hides and the fun we had on our journey! Definitely gonna come back to you Kiwis, greetings from the other end of the world, keep it on! Smile

Ahhh flip-flop, t-shirt and shorts are definitely not the appropiate clothes for the cache. But the weather was so great finaly that we didn't care. So many thorns everywhere. Tftc

Came out this way with the family and a thousand changes of clothes.....the boys wanted some snow action! LOL. With the snow melt there was a bit of a river but a hefty jump got me across. Soon enough making the find and sign. A couple hours playing in the snow and the boys were happy...got them changed then a short walk through the beach forest at castle hill village before heading home. Nice. Lovely day. Cheers.

Turns out we got this one yonks ago, but seem to have forgot to log it. Sorted, and backdated! TFTC

I was fortunate enough to be able to squeeze an 11 day holiday out of two leave days!! I headed out west to find some caches, see some sights, and relax before the madness of the semester hits. The weather was unbelievably good, only a bit of a storm over Arthur's Pass on the first day, otherwise hot and sunny. I found a great variety of caches, drive by's, walks, hikes, even a power trail. Thank you to all the CO's for their great hides!!!
Very cool, not much water to cross, but fun!

After a full on day yesterday conquering Mt Bealey T 5 and swimming across lake Pearson T4.5 a leisurely drive back to Geraldine today picking up a few P and G s along the way was a good plan.

this was a very easy T4 when you can park less than 20m away no dramas for this no scratches or wet feet TFTC

There was a time I belonged to the Canterbury Winter Sports Club which then ran Mt Cheeseman Ski Field. A good reason to reacquaint with matagouri.

On my way home after another wonderful MEGA weekend.
This took me a wee bit to find but I got there in the end.
Recalled some very happy memories as I drove through the gate.
We used to drive here from Wellington to ski for a week with our two young girls.
I just love being able to fall out of bed and onto my skis.
Wonderful family ski area.

I saw a familiar car in the cave stream car park, so I nipped around and grabbed this cache while I waited for Troutburger and family to emerge from the depths.
Cheers and thanks,

We were looking forward to this trip to New Zealand.
After hours of flight from Belgium we finally arrived, picked up our Road Trip Special and started going.
First we organised a little event to meet the locals. It was a blast and we've met some nice people!
After that we did a whole tour around the South Island in 3 weeks, sleeping in the car or our tent.
It was great!

This dragon was cheezy indeed. Thanks for showing us!

A lovely little diversion on our way across the alps.
Loved getting back in touch with the NZ great outdoors, including my re-introduction to Matagouri after caching the Australian outback for the past couple of years.

Prickles prickles everywhere. And the Cheezy Dragon must have had a laugh watching us go into get this one. Catmad spotted and managed to retrieve with not much damage, getting out was harder for her. MadNosyBear find.

After finding a good stick where we could scratch around the Matagouri we eventually found the cache nice & dry. We dropped a "Jeep 4x4" travel bug that has journeyed from USA. This is a pleasant cache to get to if the stream is low but mind the Matagouri Thorns!

14-Dec-13
Mum and I kept meaning to try this while passing through to ChCh but Mum has a pretty low little car and we never seem to be passing at the right time. Today we were making time to stop at a few that we never have time for and this was one of them. First the little stream crossing and we managed to cross without getting wet feet (just!) and then the matagori maze. Trying to find the best approach was quite hard and prickly. I lost my balance climbing and got stung by the matagori on the back of my leg. I ended up carrying quite a large piece in there and didnt realise there was actually something in there until the next morning. Really glad this is finally off the list. This is deserving of the terrain rating so we hope that the doesnt get changed later on. Thanks for the cache Smile

After just walking up through cave stream we didn't want to get wet feet again but got across the stream with ease, dodged all the spiky bushes like we were kids. Found nice and easy thanks

04-Oct-12
Mrs SoBad had been put off by the mention of slippery streams so this was not on the list. But we found we were passing it - and the stream was fine today. SoBad rock hopped - Mrs waded - and the cache was soon in hand. Thanks. We had hoped to get a different one from the CO, but the road was closed so this made a great replacement.

18-Sep-12
Park by the road and made a quick dash across. GPS was spot on. TFTC

13-Mar-12
We pickd this one up on the way back from Mt Cheeseman. parked and saw the GPSr come up with 71m so off we went down the track. The stream was not too full so with a hop skip and jump we made it over with dry feet. A bit of scramble up the bank and then on a small animal track to just near GZ. We soon spotted the hide and had the cache in hand. SL and replaced. dropped off a geo coin (slugger)

Tikvanz & I were somewhat surprised that no one had bothered to find this in the week that it has been available. So we stopped by to get FTF Smile before proceeding on up the mountain road for the You Will Need Boots and Gaiters cache.

When BaldEd suggested a trip to "You will need Boots & Gaiters" I jumped at the opportunity. We were going to leave the other caches we wanted to get until afterwards to make best use of the good weather window. But surprised that this cache hadn't been found we decided to grab the FTF on the way up rather than the way down just in case someone else beat us to it. TFTC.
