Heading South and thankfully all the gates were open and there were no events on, although there were several marquees in the middle. Replaced this one kind of in the same place, wedged in on top of the obvious. Funny, as I was walking back passed the cheap seats I found a blue note. Yay, that will pay for my lunch.
Now accessible again but hard to scratch around . Had another look but nothing found.
The pine trees behind the race course are currently being felled by contractors for safety reasons. The cache is currenty inaccessible and my be missing once the felling is completed.
Found after a bit of scratching around no log in container Luckily I had a bit of paper with me.
Had a scratch around low and higher where GZ was indicated , then a couple of other options lightly searched .
Will attempt again next time here!! Thanks

Having a milestone birthday this weekend, my aim was 50 caches. That was too much for one day so the 50 finds were spread over the celebratory weekend, 1/2 on my way South and 1/2 on my way North.
This location was rather busy today with Beach Hop and Gypsy fair residents.

It was a little slippery after some recent rain, but not too bad.
This would be a great spot to watch activities from.
I left an alphabet stone - the letter F.
Thanks for putting this here

Our first one today, went for walk from NZMCA park. Left Coco our cat on duty looking after our wee home. Lovely view from these seats. Thanks for the cache bumandworker.
Found, log written, replaced where found. Note, paper is waterlogged, very hard to write on, needs some TLC. TFTC
On a trip south from Tauranga. Been cycling around when we can. Love it down here. Camped up for the night nearby. Heading north again. Thanks for bringing me here.
I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Logged with permission. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

Slipped n slid but no damage done. Great viewing here tftc
Planned West Coast trip put on hold due to atrocious weather. So an alternative route was needed to avoid the rain. Not so! The rest of the south island copped it too..though on a lesser degree. So mainly driving north with the odd random cache finds. Seeing plenty of country less travelled a bonus. Spending a few days in Kaikoura then heading back down south

Another dnf off the list. Ye ha! Pleased to get this find. I had a string of past dnfs in Kaikoura and today I have found the lot. Very happy! Tftc.

LEST WE FORGET..
Woohoo a long weekend and a good excuse to get away ...I usually just drive through kaikoura but this time I've decided to stay for 3 nights on a caching mission...
I've learnt something this weekend ...just because a cache has a dnf as the last log doesn't mean it's not there and that applys to this cache as well..gz was empty but cache was quickly found a little higher...have replaced as hint suggests tftc

The hint seems logical but no amount of scratching away pine needles revealed the cache.
After two weeks in the South Inland we are heading home. Stayed the night in Kaikoura, out to find some caches before heading to Picton. Thanks bumandworker for the cache.
Found while caching on the way to and around Kaikoura with Kiwimykl, refer to his log for details.

Found with NZDi. The weather in Blenheim was supposed to be unbearable today, so NZDi told me to prepare some targets in a cooler part of the country. Kaikoura was supposed to be 10 to 12 degrees cooler but not unbearably cold, so we headed that way for the day. I sorted out a couple of pocket queries for around Kaikoura and the route there and came up with 101 targets. We manage to get 23 (24 actually, I just discovered I didn't write a previous find down in my note book) of them plus five if you count the lab cache we got too. Not our best day out, but nothing to be sneezed at either. Some logs were dated and signed in full, but to preserve space most were dated and signed KM & ND.
This was our fourteenth find of the day and we parked up on Scarborough Street and walked down SH1 to access the cache. At GZ we searched in line with the direction the hint gave us with no luck, then tried the next obvious place and found a cache well known for being placed by this CO. We had a look for the 'second' cache mentioned by previous loggers but as we had found it, this was half hearted and unsuccessful.

Definitely thinking there’s two caches in this spot. Last find on this log was 19th of feb
A bit of a struggle to find but got there in the end! Best seats in the house though TFTC
That took me ages to find and I was about to give up but read logs and expanded the search area
I've tried looking for this cache on two other occasions over the years and had no luck. I attended a work function in town tonight and decided I'd give it another go on the way home. It was getting dark as I made my way up the slope, I scrambled up to the tree and saw nothing at the base, so I reached up and found a cache. Signed the log and replaced, but thought it was a bit odd since it doesn't match previous finders descriptions. Hmm, maybe there are two caches here? Tftc.
Tried to find this one a few years ago with no luck then every time I've driven past since then I keep thinking I should try again, today is the day and I spotted it straight away. The GPS was still reading about 15 metres away. There is no need for maintenance, cache is still in good nick, not damaged as a previous searcher commented. Definitely a b&w container and original log. Thanks b&w

I had given up on this as there appears to be a bit of wood chopping that had gone on in the area and where our GPS said the cache should be there was nothing. On my way down I checked in a couple of other places and finally found it. TFTC
I was Kaikōura for the weekend, staying at Takahanga, and went to find a few before heading home/along the way. Not as per hint, possibly due to previous cacher movement, but left as found. TFTC!!
Lovely location new container and log sheet waiting for the next visitor great views st the cheap seats to
Pretty sure were it should be.but no luck.
Looking at previous entries it might be missing.
Will keep an eye on this one

Petty sure this one's gone. Some tree felling evident, but no cache to be found. Might need a CO check.
Sent the other half up to find this one. Slippery pine needles lol. Good easy quick find. Thanks
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are on a 4 day adventure of Kaikoura. Its Sunday and we are in and around Kaikoura today.
Nigel had me going up the bank and over there. So after a scramble along the bank to get to GZ it was a quick snag and tag. Cheers

Kiwi moose suggested the cache needed some attention, I have placed the logbook in an Eclipse tin. Thanks for the cache
Well, the spot was obvious but the cache was not. All I found was the log book about 10m away from the cache- - muggles. REplaced log book into a "holder" which should work for a while I think and put back where the GPS and clue pointed. Perhaps a bag from the next holder would help! Cheers
Vanmiddag een wandelingetje gemaakt naar de haven, waar het marineschip met hulpgoederen is aangekomen. En die 300 evacués weer meeneemt.

In the end we decided to tackle it because we weren't going near the seats. Geohubby did the hard work, I was not confident. Tftc
Checked, all good. But will keep an eye in case clean up includes felling the trees.
This area was loosely taped off with danger tape. The area is being cleared. We had an initial scout around but once we heard the digger start up, we abandoned our pursuit. Owner of this one may need to check it out again.

Easy approach from SH1. Searched quite a while for this one - both where the hint indicated and further afield, but no luck for us today.
been found recently, but as with all DNF, gets bookmarked (see link on cache) and we check next time passing
Here in Kaikoura for the weekend for a rogaine on sat and a free day sunday by myself to wander a few tracks and see what I can find. Very lucky with perfect weather.
Parked across the road by the water and found a couple of others on nearby walkways. Wasn't too sure how to approach this one - so walked through the racecourse and up the path. A few nice motorhomes parked up here... No trouble locating cache at GZ - not a muggle in sight.

Debated which way to go in for this one, but found a nice close park and within a few minutes had the cache.
I dragged the old bones up the hill to get this one, it was still a bit damp and slippy under foot, I think wearing sandals instead of shoes didn't help much either!!! never learn?. Found the cache in good order, very slightly damp that's all. TFTC
Needed another couple of caches at the end of the day. This one wasn’t a huge distance from where we were staying in South Bay. Didn’t take too long to find. The only livestock I spotted in the racing grounds was a rabbit. #975. TFTC.
On my 'short' stroll around Kaikoura this morning, I made me way to the cheap seats
But what sporting venue was I going to find ??
All was revealed at the sign warning me that the animals I may encounter here might bite me [:o]
Before me was laid out a hippodrome, wedged betwixt sea and hills
There did seem to be a lot of activity happening below and from 'the bleachers' I took a few moments to observe.
A few harness horses were circulating.
But which are they ??
Trotters or Pacers ??
I can never remember which is what
Where I was brung up in South Australia they were trotters.
Over in New South Wales they are pacers.
OK !! They are Trotters
With that mystery cleared up, I wandered up the hill a bit following the clues and not the GPS.
The coords only lead me to the seat
The clues told me where the cache was !!
Which is fine given the thick tree cover behind the cheap seats
Cache found, and photos taken !!
Guess what ?? !!
Tomorrow is race day
Monday, November 2 !!
Kaikoura Trots.

Find #3811 this took a bit longer than it should have ,with the cords some what off TFTC
Out for a day caching with Gullivers Travels54 from Christchurch north along the east coast to Kaikoura. Missed the parking for this one on the way north, so stopped on the way back. It took quite a bit of looking to find the right spot as the coords were not really on the spot as such. But eventually found and got the log signed before replacing and moving on towards the south.

It was starting to get dark nd were running out of time before dinner, had a ten minute search but no luck.
Early morning find while out for a run around the block. Last Kaikoura find for this trip. TFTC!
Edit: I didn't leave a geocoin behind - an incorrect log says I did, and I can't delete it and I can't correct it until I get home and find the code stamped on the coin.

Gotcha! Did not log as we lost pen. Left a British 2p coin in there just to prove myself
The original plan for this Waitangi Day was to climb up Mount Patriarch after a tramping and biking combo. The talk for most of the week had been around the assumption that Friday was that, then I was going to head down the line to Kaikoura on the Saturday and come back on the Sunday.
The best laid plans of mice and men and all that.
Dry conditions and this weeks fires along North Bank Road have led to it being closed to traffic for the next few days so new plans must be made. Couldn't really sit around doing nothing with a day off and no plan could I?
Spoke to G H 6 7 1 0 and hew was keen for a day trip down the line to Kaikoura as long as we got back today ready for wedding anniversary tomorrow, no worries. I plugged in 76 caches into the G P S ; 5 from four caches and 71 from b&w, seriously. I enjoy finding caches at the end of the day and all the ones we found today were well maintained; one was even duplicated, more on that later.
The weather was a cool, strong Southerly breeze after rain in the night cooled things down a little and snow appeared atop the higher Nelson ranges and the Kaikoura Ranges too, looked good though.

Made this pretty much a P&G. Wouldn't like to be sat here when a pine cone comes bouncing down the hill!

We had planned a caching trip to Mt Patriach today, but with a large fire up the Onamalutu and the road closed, plans had to change. Capperz and I decided to head to Kaikoura and clear up some areas just off the main road that he hadn't managed to get to yet. We had some light rain overnight, and the day dawned calm and cold helping those getting the fire under control. There was also a light dusting of snow on the tops of nearby hills, from around 1400m up. We headed south, caching along the way and filling up the map with yellow smiles. There was a strong southerly blowing along the coast, with rough seas and cooler temperature. Many miles covered, many caches found and a very good day out exploring.
Things are a lot windier on this side of the peninsula today. Nothing going on at the race course.
A nice little walk off the main road and fairly easy find, although there are plenty of hint possibilities.

[green] An awesome weekend caching to and fro Kaikoura, on a strangely empty State Highway 1. But two things marred it - one: I could only do a two day weekend, despite that this is a three day weekend - I suddenly got dumped with a ton of homework and I better do some study. And two: Someone smashed a side window on the car and stole the sleeping bag. So this weekend is going to be a lot more expensive than I had bargained for . Still... 120 caches! That will be a weekend record for me. And just about every cache between Blenheim and Kaikoura converted to yellow smilies. Lots of walking, sunburn, dust. Big smiley on my face even if not in my pocket! Took me all day to get to Kaikoura from Blenheim yesterday, on my way back today.
There were camper vans using the race grounds, and as I was hunting for the cache the All Blacks vs Chicago Eagles were playing through the PA. All Blacks won - 74:6. I won too, another cache to my tally.

Last cache for today, it is just cold and miserable after some nice days. But that is normal: Sun while working and rain on the weekend. TFTC
Took me ages to find this one. But I just had to look harder in the first place I looked and I soon had the cache in hand Thanks for the cache
No races on today so no reason to sit in the cheap seats so i will find the cache instead. and i did so with my buddy Nosynel. Cheers.
Parked by the cemetery for this and walked down. Great views for such a cheap place!! Thanks.
Not only cheap but also the best seats at the venue with a great view of proceedings.TFTC
