WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 105 - Karratha Day 1. With the temperatures likely to rise I headed off early to get as much done before lunch as I could. I did two 4wd caches first up on the ridges over looking Karratha, before heading to some more drive and climb caches. I did manage one drive by in the industrial estate. Over lunch I worked out a multi from an image I took and went to get it in the late afternoon when I went out for a shopping trip. I cooked at the van. Tomorrow is another day around Karratha.I parked in the saddle to the north of the hill, and started the precipitous ascent. It was a steady steep rock climb, and before I knew it, I was at the top. Then came the fun part, hunting around in all the red rocks to find the right one that had the cache under it. I was quite relieved when it was found and I could sign the lag and make a very careful descent to the car. Thanks for the cache Matthew Supertramp48780.2 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 1000 Finds Achievement A#85**Albida**

So we went for a walk, decided to try for a geocache

Cache Name "The Slog"

Following dirt track, Murphy (Geo Jack Russell) decided to walk through a mud sludge bog hole. Got rocks stuck in between his pads, I had to pick the rocks out and get covered in mud paste.

Carried on, found base of hill, and I crawled up the wash out to the top.
It's probably the hardest way to go.

Asthma Attack (mild)

Called upon my inner mountain goat to find GZ - found cache quickly enough.

Wife phone from the bottom of the hill to make sure I wasn't dead.

Scaled the mountain back down to the wife. Slipped, tripped, and cut my finger.

Made it to the bottom.

No beer was had.

But I did find a container in the bush.

The End!

are gone! TFTC

Nice walk. Great views. Found with Panda Dundee. TFTC

After having been on the plane so long I needed a leg stretch so this sounded just right. Headed over and looked up. Half way up had a couple of roos hop by making it look easy. Once at GZ it took a little to find the hide. The rubber seal is just starting to get tacky. Nice views. We completed the signign duties and re hid. TFTC

I'm out for a training run for the ultra-marathon I signed up for and hills, hills, hills are the order of the day. Once I'd climbed up to GZ via the steeper route, I took a breather and rewarded myself by finding this cache. Now to go find some more hills to climb....

Thanks for find #4528

A very appropriate name for this cache! I'm a little short of breath after getting to the top.

Found after a short search. I think the coordinates were off a bit from memory but within 10m, which results in a few million hidey holes Very Happy so it was a lucky short search for me.

I was surprised this doesn't get found more often being so close to town! I guess the steepness puts people off.

Day 16 holidaying in the Pilbara & our non-caching friends have left, leaving us to find some caches requiring a little more exercise than what they like to do Razz We were leaving our camp & whilst Jase couldn't make up his mind where we were headed I made our minds up & pointed up the hill to this one!!!

We managed to park quite close but yet it was still a slog to the top... After catching our breath we begun searching & Jase made the find of this one after a few minutes of hunting Big Grin

We are in Karratha for a couple of days and have concentrated on grabbing some of the higher terrain caches. We were particularly interested in this cache as it hadn't had a find for 3 years. We parked on one of the tracks leading up and indeed found it 'a slog' to make our way to gz. Had a chuckle when we passed the novel lookout seat wedged on a ledge. It was pretty windy up there and amazing views - we soon signed the log to record our visit. Thanks Matthew Supertramp

pug002 found it 20/8/2017 on our trip to the Pilbara geocaching. This onel was for geo hubby as a bit too ambitious for after recent surgery, however have to say some of the others really pushed me. Thanks Matthew Supertramp once again for your efforts. Smile

Another smiley added here today on a 5 week Pilbara and Kimberley break, wow it was a hard slog but well worth it, as a child growing up in the Pilbara, this is my old stomping ground, thanks for the memories and TFTC

Found it. A nice view. A bit of patience required to find it with so many hidey holes around.

29-Jun-16
Taking advantage of the early morning coolness,
I was wandering the peaks Razz
I headed down the pleasantly named ... Rosemary Road to find a track that would take me close to GZ Big Grin
Parking on the saddle to the west of GZ, I had at least gained some elevation that I would not have to walk up Big Grin
How lazy is that ?? Red Face

Off I trotted up the rocks Smile
This trot would have been a bit scratchy last year, but a fire (no doubt lit by somebody who lives down the hill) has taken out the spinifex, and only the new shoots are sprouting at the moment Big Grin
The roos up here were still putting me attempts at bounding across the scenery to shame though Red Face

And after a very pleasant scramble up the hill I reached the top.
Good views Smile
And a cache found too [:o]

TFTC !! Big Grin

Fave dance time again !! Razz

Fantastic 'slog' up the hill - great work out for us all!! TFTC!!

30-Aug-15
What an awesome view up on this hill. I did this slog while on a morning bike ride. I had to walk up the last bit but it was well worth it. I was a bit worried about the condition of the cache as the ground is all burnt but much to my surprise I found the perfectly fine cache in the first place I looked. TFTC and bringing us here. I will have to bring the kids up for the views.

TFTC. We loved this one, a great late afternoon hike to introduce Nanna to geocaching. Quite a scramble to find the actual cache. Great views.

21-Aug-14
An excellent walk for some morning exercise and a great view at the top. Unfortunately I was disappointed not to find the cache. Spent a good 15 mins looking under every rock up there but it's just not there. Oh well. I won't be back soon. Caches like this really need a proper hint.

18-Aug-14
Beautiful view. Worth the climb

Yes it's a slog to get to the top. Nevertheless Ian enjoyed the experience while Penny sat in the car and supervised.

Coordinate Accuracy: Excellent (Around 3 metres).
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Toy Car.
Thanks Matthew Supertramp for the hunt today.

Nice evening to take dog for a walk and I found this one before dark! Green bottle & pile of rock made this an easy find. This hill used to be a favourite haunt for me and the misses few years back. It's a great spot for views and noises of karratha. I need not worry about the darkness on the way back as the Pluto flare will show me the way home!!!!!

11-May-13
Yep definately a slog Big Grin. Muggle daughter was all for doing this one and we got the 2wd a bit closer than thought. I nearly fell backwards while walking up the hill then did a little slip on way down but happy to say made it successfully.
Knees held up so still no replacements needed, thankfully, if only my 2 ortho specialists could see what I get up to Smile.

Beautiful views from here and happy to say green bottle still in one piece and where it should be.

Took C3-PO TB and left elephant. I love C3-PO

Thanks Matt

is my C3-PO TB still in this cache??

Went out to check on the cache and even though I am the owner of it, it even took me a good 10 minutes to find it. It was within 5 metres of the coordinates but there are lots of little nooks for it to hide in. However, if you look from the right angle you finally see it. But to make things a little easier I have now placed a pile of small stones and rocks on the big rock above the cache. (Also a green beer bottle pointing to the hiding spot but not sure how long that is going to stay there).

Went for the walk...thanks for the slog...and exercise...didn't find it...can anyone offer a hint...and I will head up again? - Oops...should have been "didn't find it"... apologies!

Tricky to find with a smartphone, but great views! Will make sure the travel token gets to see Perth next week!

Found it!

Our old training ground, we used to run up these hills every second day until March when we left on our around Oz trip! How fast we loose fitness. Glad the weather was cooler, easier up than down.

Left two trackables.

21-Jul-12
Yeey, found it! Sun was a bit annoying and it was so windy, I always had my hair right in my face, grrrr! But finally found the cache, great feeling! And afterwards I sat down with my Shumbaboy and watched the sunset....nice Smile TFTC

Coordinates changed from:
S 20° 45.214 E 116° 49.359

Coordinates changed to:
S 20° 45.214 E 116° 49.362

Distance from original: 17.1 feet or 5.2 meters.

I went to check the coordinates tonight (phew! what a slog!) and it took me a good 10 minutes to find the cache again. The coordinates have been updated accordingly.

08-Jul-12
Had a hard time finding this, the coords were pointing to 9m from the actual position.
Saw a dozen roos in the hills.

That was a slog! Great views though. Found this whilst staying at the caravan park over the road, during our big lap!
