On my way back with Muzza from Kaniva to Melbourne today and as we both needed an EC, we stopped off here. What interesting questions for this one, hope my answers were interesting too!I remember seeing these rocks over 35 years ago, when Rick and I first visited Australia, well before we emigrated. I hated the graffiti then and still do now. I love street art, but this aren't it.

Found while travelling home from Kaniva with ConnieandRick. We stopped and tried to work out some dimensions to then do our own calculations. I forgot to take a photo and only realised when I was back in Melbourne, but Connie said she would vouch for me. Answers to be sent soon, once the calculations are done. Many thanks to Freddo for the cache.

Stopped off while on the way to Kaniva for a weekend of caching. Only car in the area and soon set about the required tasks. Did my best with and calculated what was required and sent the answers to the CO with the thumbs up to log, even with one dodgy and answer. As for the graffiti, some of the artwork looks great, while the tagging is just vandalism. Reminds me of Thunderbolts Rock near Armidale NSW.Thanks for the earthcache Freddo...always a bit of fun. Fav point added.

Great spot to explore

We were there at 1:53 PM GAFF1.On our way to Lake Lonsdale for a couple of days and we stopped by to see if we could first of all get our rig into the parking area and apart from some quite deep water channels in the path, we were able to negotiate our van right in front of the monstrosity that confronted us!This would have to be the second weirdest EC that we have done - the other one had something to do with the height of waves and, no wait there was another one that asked how thick the paint was on the surface of something. All brilliant geological questions RazzThanks to Freddo

TFTC! 26 February 2024 12:00:33pm 7333 thanks to Freddo for the cache! Always a fan of the earth caches! This one was one with a difference! A quick stop and walk around! Everything is now covered in graffiti and some are covered up multiple times. Not a fan of much. Its more of tagging. Answers sent through and approved by the CO.

I have always been a sucker for roadside attractions and cheesy landmarks and so a friend of mine gifted me for Xmas this a year a map of all of the [**"Big Things of Australia"**](https://bigthingsofaustralia.com/). With being a non-native Australian I had never heard of these *"big things"* and was instantly hooked. I spent the next couple of days just looking at the map and reading all about the *"big things!"*I instantly knew that I to see at least one of these *"big things"* while I was on holiday break, and with the [**"The Giant Koala"**](https://bigthingsofaustralia.com/the-giant-koala/) being one of the most iconic *"big things"* in the state, I knew that it had to be my first stop in my *"big things"* tour of Australia. So today the snuggle muggle and I drove up to [Dadswells Bridge](https://visithorsham.com.au/dadswells-bridge/) to see the [**"The Giant Koala"**](https://bigthingsofaustralia.com/the-giant-koala/), but of course we had to make a day of it and break up the drive with a few other interesting stops and caches along the way. This earthcache was amongst the stops we made today, an absolutely fascinating location. I always love an earthcache as usually they take me to beautiful locations and teach me interesting things. We enjoyed climbing around amongst the rocks looking at all the graffiti. I guess I am always very torn on my thoughts about graffiti. Some graffiti I believe is true art, other graffiti I believe is a voice or a message from those that may not have a voice, other graffiti I believe is solely vandalism. I think the snuggle muggle and I would have enjoyed the beauty of this location so much more if we could have seen it in it's natural state, however some of the works we found interesting and some beautiful. However, lots just appears to be from bored teens.Anyways, it was very interesting to explore here today. A big thanks goes to [Freddo](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=ca768d32-fb08-40a5-833c-0f73c4799839&wid=29ec05d4-45d4-42ee-9631-89efc62fdda1&ds=2) for bringing us here to experience it. TFTC.

Stopped by here for a leg stretch as we have a 900km drive today. There is graffiti which is a work of art (ask Banksy) and then there is tagging which is horrible. Overall, there was one piece we liked but the rest isnt easy on the eye.Answers sent.Adelaide to South Gippsland and anywhere in between for the Christmas holiday. Hope to pick up a few more LGAs along the way too.Freddo, I found Sisters of Rock today. Interesting place. Lots of colour and expression. Not my idea of artistic graffiti but each to their own.

Elephant rock??, wanna bee??Amazing unique rocks but sadly, IMO the graffiti is just that its no worthy of being called artwork.Toy A word describing either poor work or a painter without skill, sometimes a newbie. To toy someone elses graffiti means to go over it. An acronym meaning tag over your shit, often placed on top of bad, or toy work. These rocks are all Toy.

What a great spot that is completely ruined by wankers. Not only have they defaced something that should really be a beautiful spot, they've chucked rubbish, paint spray cans and bottles all over the place.
This Council is missing out on a good tourism opportunity here. There should be nice indigenous flora plantings, paths around and between the boulders, interpretative signage, picnic tables, bins...
They need to bring back chain gangs of young offenders to scrub these rocks clean, pick up all the rubbish and revegetate the area!
Chookster will send in serious answers for us both, but I'm going to have some fun with it!
Hope you enjoy the photos, which depict my feelings towards the local "art"...

Out checking out the nearby towns near the Grampians with naughtybunny. This was one stop which annoyed us. What mindless pinheads! Questions answered and submitted. Cheers.

Found with JJ52 and Michells&hound on our way home from our Ballarat weekend finding the Geo Tour caches.
A lot of history in these rocks. I wonder what would have happened to these rocks if they were not protected. I had a wee on a tree while I was here. Looking back on photos of this cache in my opinion the graffiti has looked pretty crap. Someone needs to paint a mural or a Mt Rushmore type carving. Thanks Freddo

On the way home from a long weekend in Ballarat with Michells&hound and allister w and M&h said we should stop here as both Allister and I had not found this Earthcache. [^]

Huge rocks and very colourful. We had a discussion while photos were being taken. Big Grin

Answers have been sent to the CO (mostly guesses) Surprised

Thanks for this interesting Earthcache Dr Freddo. Smile

I have been here before. Was there a trad here?
Ive messaged my answers. Tftc

A different spot but we didn't really dig the graffiti. It was a good excuse to pull over and stretch the legs though, and the rocks themselves were pretty cool. Surprised to see several others here as the track to get here was very easy to miss (we did!). TFTC!

What a bizarre place!

Definitely worth a visit, but I do really think it’s too bad about all the tagging. It all seems pretty harmless, but it’s also massively uninteresting.

Enjoyed reading and learning about the geology and history here.

We certainly would not have visited without this EarthCache.

Thanks for the fun!

Answers etc to CO
Cannot say I am thrilled to bits about the graffiti over the rocks - even while I was there, there was a car load of people NOT TEENAGERS EITHER 9 (30's+ )who quickly assembled behind the rocks to add their reason for making the rocks a go-to place for remembering or honoring. They took about 8 spray cans in. But, if the place is protected, why decimate the historical rationale to have the protection ...

Well its taken about the same time as the layers of paint for me to log this Earthcache, but finally I am doing the task, answers sent many rocks ago and the OK to log was replied to about the same time as the first layer was drying.
Our thanks to DrFredo for the earthcache and the science lesson 101, Shelby can finally stop haunting me about logging this one.lol

We were staying in Ballarat, but had to drive out to Horsham as my in-laws car had broken down. Anywhooooo, we decided this would make for an interesting stop for our EC souvenir.

Thanks Dr Freddo for the fun EC.

P.S. Not sure the graffiti enhances the environment here, in fact I think it is detrimental. I don't mind "artistic" graffiti on walls etc if done with taste (and approval), but not on naturally occurring objects. See my photo for a case in point.

Having spent the past week in the Grampians, it was only fitting that we drop by and check out the rocks and do the Earthcache.
We have been to Stawell many times in the past, but that was well before Geocaching came along and driven past the rocks numerous times.
We had a lot of fun doing this cache and we have learnt a lot in the process, especially the growth patterns of lichens!

Thanks for the Earthcache.

Traveling from Melbourne to Horsham to pick up some bikes that I jetisoned at a cousins three months ago when the bike rack failed on a trip to Darwin, luckily I had the option at the time. I'm travelling up today and then back tomorrow with a little geocaching thrown into the mix.
Ducked in for a quick find on my way home again.
A little like Elephant Rock near Cardinia Reservoir east of Melbourne but this is a lot more extensive. It's also interesting that the two largest pieces appear to be the same rock that split in two.
**Thanks for creating this earth cache Freddo**

Wow!! What a random little spot. There is some beauty to this madness.... My thoughts are divided tho. Sooo much rubbish:(

I have passed this spot so many times over the last forty years, and irs taken a Freddo Earthcache to get me to stop. A bit of a rush job on collecting the necessary dimensions as I was keen to be in Ararat before dark to log a target cache there. Fortunately the CO was accepting of my numbers.

Thanks for the Earthcache and putting this break in the journey for me Freddo.

28-May-22
What a location, and how do you answers some of the questions but we will try in a special message to CO
We do log as we like to log our finds in order of finding them this has been logged with out approval but CO has been sent response
We are unsure as to an opinion on the grafitti, the pace just has a presence and the artwork may help that. At least it is not offensive art

02-May-22
Yay, an earthcache where there's burn outs, discarded bottles, used condoms and a few syringes. Looks like a fun spot.

Thanks for the cache, answers were sent, sorry for the delay in logging.

Very similar to an earthcache of mine, but yours came first.

Continuing our Victorian trip with the family after some time at the Wang mega.
We were heading towards the Grampians when out of left field we spotted an EC beside the road. OMG someone's got their rocks off here and splashed a bit of paint about.

Travelling home from Adelaide I was able to convince The Driver to pull off to this wayside stop. It was a mixture of amazement and disgust. The rocks here are truly amazing and I’d guess they are sacred to the local First Nations people. Unfortunately the other people living in the country seem to think they are a canvas for them to decorate and redecorate to their heart’s content. A lot of money must also have been spent on paint to cover the huge area . Some considerable physical skills would have been required as well. The questions for the Earthcache provoked some incredible calculations. Whether they are accurate or not I’ll leave for the CO to decide.

Mr. Dromaniax remembers stopping many times at the Sister Rocks when he was a child, and he was traveling from his home in Beulah to meet family in Melbourne. The graffiti is probably more colourful now than it was 40 odd years ago. We spent around an hour here wandering around and simultaneously amazed at the rock formations and disgusted at the amount of rubbish and broken glass scattered around. The questions are some of the most unusual we have been asked at an Earthcache but made us think. Thank you for the time and effort put into creating this Earthcache, Dr. Freddo. An FP for bringing back good memories and also the innovative questions.

What a great place to visit. Yes it is vandalism and rubbish is everywhere, but it’s also a unique sight, at least for me. We loved climbing around the rocks and on boulders, and the colours just fascinated me. Everyone had left their mark.
We are in town for a few nights and are just exploring the local area and caches. The granite boulders are so addictive, I just want to keep climbing on them! Smile

TFTC. Continuing our camping stopover in Ararat, today we ventured out towards Stawell. We started the day with a quick easy find. At Petticoat Gully, just outside Ararat we had three dnfs in a row. The day got better. 16 caches and 3dnfs. Not a bad haul for the day. We saw some interesting sights and places we would not visit without caching.
Nobody about. Personally the graffiti ruins the area.

Almost finished our long weekend in Stawell and have been lucky to collect nearly every cache in town. Been past here several times in my travels but never stopped, today was the perfect excuse with a very detailed EC to work on. Luckily the geomobile just happened to be loaded with exactly the scientific instruments that were needed to obtain the measurements and readings required.
Back at the caravan park we poured over all the data and after several hours finally the answers spat out from our calculators and we have confidently sent them to the CO as required!
Thx Dr Freddo for helping to broaden our scientific knowledge with this EC.
On a personal level, i think the graffiti looks like crap. Much prefer the natural look! Cheers!!!

Gee this is a very hard earthcache for a D1, so hard in fact we decided to abort on our first visit as geocachers. Not this time however, this time we took pictures, done some estimates (no bloody clue) and sent them off to the CO.
We really think its a shame they have graffitied the rocks , maybe stick to one, with some decent art , but not all of them. Thats just our opinion though and obviously not of the masses as people that come here with their paint tins and brushes, prepared to add to the graffiti with their own masterpiece (yea, right!).
We did find a cool sculpture however which seems very apt to the location and one of the earthcache questions, picture added.
Thanks Dr Freddo for the weird questions and making us take more notice of the granite outcrop here known as Sisters Rock.

Came over to the 2019 mega in St Arnaud with Mogni. We where joined by jj52, Aussie M and M plus others at different times over the mega weekend. Many caches where found over the course of the 8 day trip. Targeting multi's on the way there and back plus the challenge trail in Mount Beckworth reserve. The creative trails around St Arnaud where the highlight of the trip.

We were going to stop here for the earthcache that looked not only interesting, but also quick and easy from the rating. Changed our minds when we saw the amount of work required for it. Maybe D1 does not fully reflect the effort required?

Off on yet another adventure with Ms_enchantress and her family, heading out to do the Silo Art trail then across to Border Town, up to Pinaroo to do that section of the Border Track back down to border town and then home to the beautiful green rolling hills of South Gippsland (a stark contrast at the moment to this brown barren landscape!)
We had a good time seeing hte sights and 4 x 4 ing.

On my way to the border and came across this earth cache.
It was not what I was expecting here but it is a very different form of rural art.
Took awhile to calculate all of the answers and luckily I had the right equipment in the back of the Geocruiser just for times like this.
And after meeting up with Dr Freddo at an event I was told I had the correct answers.
Thanks Dr Freddo TFTEC

We pulled off the highway to undertake this Earthcache today and have subsequently submitted our answers to the CO. With the photo being optional, for the first time ever at an Earthcache we decided against taking one as we didn't want to spoil our photo library with such a hideous picture! Our opinion? - the worst degradation of a geological site we have ever come across! Thanks so much for the very unusual Earthcache and greetings from Zimbabwe

Such an interesting place even though i’m not sure how I feel about this one.

Stopped at the famous Sister Rocks with McLookers today to try for this EC. Unfortunetly a muggle was parked too close but hopefully our calculations that have been emailed are correct.. One photo taken of the rocks, too many muggle kids about!! Thanks Freddo for bringing us here and for the information gained.

30-Dec-18
We called by this EC this afternoon on our way home. A muggle was situated right near the other cache so Motndarg and I concentrated on answering the questions for this. We have e-mailed our answers although our head hurts from calculations. We only took one picture of the graffiti as there were a group of young girls spraying away. Thanks Freddo for making us stop here and observe the rocks today.

I visited this earthcache on a short, post-Christmas sojourn to Victoria with Freddo, Team Waldron and thewhitedoggang that involved plenty of driving, cycling, walking and even some boating and wading.

The weather was on our side (albeit a little warm at times), which made for some great caching. There were plenty of varied finds, with some excellent and often tricky hides and and just a few DNFs. We signed most logbooks ‘F.E.T.T.’

I have the urge to paint.

Thanks Freddo for the earthcache.

On the way to the Parkville Mega with Freddo and gridge98 via Ballarat for the night.

The CO who was driving wanted to stop here to show us this famous rock. I actually really appreciated this place with the grafitti, just so long as it is contained within the existing main rocks. Favourite Point from me, thanks!

almost forgot to log this one.......roadtripping with kenare and we decided to have a crack at this earth cache. I am not terribly good at these things but kenare loves them......i was too busy mucking around between the rocks yelling out for Miranda! Love the place and would of loved to had added a bit of paint work myself thanks for highlighting this area

Logging with permission.
Jenno3 and I were road tripping through this area and thought we’d swing in and see if we were brainy and observant enough to have a go at your Earthy. I stopped in here not long after I started caching, but I thought this was beyond me at the time. A few ECs under my belt since, we thought we’d have a real go. I find it amazing how this this place changes, yet also stays the same. I remember my dad scribing our names in somewhere back in the early 80s. No doubt they’re long gone...
Thanks for your great Earthy!

Heading home from a fun filled day in Grampians and even though the sun was already over the horizon and we were pretty beat from a huge day gathering smileys we had to stop here for another couple.
At GZ were discussed the logging requirements and were a little confused in the beginning so headed off to grab the nearby traditional. We then returned for some more analysis of the rock, took some photos and gathered some notes in order to answer the questions. The discussion continued in the car on the way home until we were satisfied we had and answer for the CO. We were lucky enough to get the stamp of approval for the CO also.
Thank you Dr Freddo for an interesting Earthcache

Up in the Grampians for a memorable day of caching venturing high, under and through the Grampians to some amazing locations with Simsfamily and Neville devil.
Passed by recently so I was keen to call in to have a look around at this disturbing location, it's been happening for century's in different cultures just sometimes the destruction of nature is more obvious if it doesn't have a purpose.

Thanks for the cache Dr Freddo

Spent last weekend camping in the Grampians. Had already stayed there the past 3 years in a row so had quite a few cache in the area but set myself a target of 25 sneaky cache without disrupting the family too much. We did actually end up spending one day joining the dots (cache) on the map to get us to a few special places including 4 Earthcache. Had a great weekend, saw Roos, Echidna, Blue tongues, Rock Wallabies, Brown Snake, Emus and....... I think that is it. Love this part of the world, thanks for making the excuse for me to come back. Cache # 1587.

I & J and the little one went to Melbourne for visas for our holiday in October, and we decided to drive instead of fly to Melbourne. We can found some caches on the way.

This was the last one we tried today.

If there's no cache, we don't know this place exist.

It's impressive. Never saw this kind of view.

Answers were sent to cache owner, and approval has been granted.

Thanks for the earth cache, Freddo.

On our way to Adelaide after a very quick trip to pick up some kayak caches we stopped here. I haven't stopped here since I was a kid. It was more interesting than I thought reading the old graffiti, the oldest we found with a date was 1957!
While we stopped here for the earth cache as it was in the gps, I accidentally found another cache I hadn't loaded. Thanks Freddo for bringing us back here again, and the interesting reading while researching the answers Smile

Suscoe is logging this Earth Cache with the permission of the good Doctor Freddo.

We were enjoying some time in this area and so a call into the Sisters is always on the agenda.
Family members used to live up this way and our boys often enjoyed a wander around these beaut rocks.
We admired the strange "artworks" and did what we needed to do here.
That's where the fun started, that night we learned a few things associated to this cache that we had no idea about. Always nice to learn new things.
Thanks to Doctor Freddo for this opportunity to see the Sisters again, brought back some beaut memories of our boys back when they were much shorter than they are now.

Hi there Freddo.

We found your cache **"Sisters of Rock"** at 3:14:00 PM today. (This makes our find count 16247).

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour around the area today. We found a wide variety of container types amongst our 10 caches (& 0 DNF's) today. Thanks for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places on our travels.

Thanks for the hunt today,

Regards

Ian & Penny.

After delivering some pallets of stock to Stawell, Spud and I stopped by here on our way back. We found the trad, some painted rocks and a gazillion bullants.
It seems inconceivable that this area had no spiritual significance to the traditional occupants of our land.
There is a world of difference between 40,000 year old cave paintings and inane tags.
It saddens me. Imagine if you will, someone painting over the walls of the Sistine Chapel. The whole world would be up in arms.
Logged with the permission of the cache owner.
Thank you for bringing us here.

Freddo, Malco!, and Brad have come to Victoria from South Australia for the weekend.

We came through Portsea and grabbed a number of great caches. Then we had a big day in and around Ballarat. We started from Blackwood where we had spent the night and moved to our primary target which was Pykes Reservoir and the 13 T5s there. From there we moved to Lake Wendouree where we relaunched the kayaks for more T5s and some T4.5s. And then we went underground for a while and then climbed some trees and other structures. And finally we picked up a few specific DT combos that we wanted as well as some targets of opportunity.

Today was the day to head home. But we had a few targets on the way.

This was a drive-by of opportunity! There is an advantage to having the CO in the car. It cuts down on the need to email the answers! However the rigour was still there and Malco! and I were obliged to indicate the rationale behind our answers.

Fortunately we passed. Nice spot Smile

The CO, Brad&Janet and Malco! journeyed east from wet and windy Adelaide to find sun and adventure along the Limestone Coast and the Goldfields of Ballarat and beyond.

Along the way we climbed trees, ventured underground in caverns and drains, kayaked on lakes, ate Thai food, slept in modest accommodations and generally had a good time. We all achieved personal milestone in the form of D/T loops achieved and physical challenges met. We all lost various items, only to find them again. We got wet, muddy, bruised, tired, battered, caffeine deprived and over-dosed. We used various items such as telescoping ladders, one and two man kayaks, ropes, multi-tools and 4x4 vehicles. We went off-road up forest tracks and over sand dunes. We visited caravan parks, lake-side campsites, city centres, ports, small towns, medium towns & big towns.

With the CO in the car providing commentary, Brad did a detail mental calculation to come up with an answer that the CO was happy with. Then we discussed the grafitti and other matters.

I think we covered it pretty well.

Thanks for the cache, Dr Freddo

Owl had run away from home to go caching with Sushilord for a few days. They were keen to concentrate on interesting puzzles, earthcaches and multis and this was a good one to add to the collection. Owl can leave the graffiti, but the questions were great fun and worth a favourite point.

Stopped here with CPwanderer & Hevwalker.
Logged this cache with permission from the CO via CPWanderer.
It was rather strange just being here, as the rocks are beautiful,
but not what they were due to the graffiti, it's a shame...
Thanks for the Earthcache Freddo

Logging with permission. Completed this earth cache with clare007 and hevwalker on our way to a caching weekend in Ballarat. I may be a fuddy duddy type of person but I would prefer these beautiful rocks in their original condition.

We found the Earthcache Cool
The graffiti stones are very interesting but it's a pity that some artists dumped their spray cans next to their work of art.

I visited GZ during our Anglesea Mega sojourn.

It took me a while to send in the answers for this one as I found them rather abstract questions which required a fair bit of thought. But I gave it a go and I received a lovely message back from the CO permitting me to log the find.

Locus Cache and I found this earth cache whilst in Victoria on our way to join AnyMules and Brisal5 in cool retro accommodation in Tynong - pics attached.

So these big rocks are BIG, and they certainly are expressive with the 'art work' that adorns them - not sure if it is quite my thing, but hey they are a good place to stop to break up a road trip, take in the scenery, find a traditional cache and also find this earth cache....1 stop, 2 smileys - WOO HOO.

GEOCACHING LITERALLY ROCKS!!! [:X]

Thanks for the cache Freddo! Smile

Stopped by with SxC to find the traditional nearby and make a shonky contribution to the artwork (see pic). Thanks Freddo for bringing us to this outdoor gallery. I was comparing this to the Louvre, the Hermiage and the Museum of Contemporary Art... I think they could learn a thing or two here about Australian Bush Culture.

Found with a shonky logic graffiti artist on the way home from the Surf Coast Mega. Looks like I should tell that Graffiti bloke from around the corner to come up here and get some ideas Surprised

On the way to Victoria to attend the Surf Coast Mega Event after visiting my brother in Murray Bridge overnight.

Answers obtained and email sent.

Pity about all the graffiti but it is typical of all large rocks around Australia that are near main roads or 'hangouts'.

Thanks Freddo for the cache.

Have driven past this over the years and it changes every time i see more colour added to the world. Would be better if you got an artist instead tagging

Well Election Day has finally arrived - Thank Goodness, not sure it will solve our problems though! After 18 days of fun on the road with the Suscoe it was time to head back to the Bellarine. Of course we couldn't resist a few stops to stretch and search. Not sure about the graffiti yet.
Logged with an OK from the CO.

Our thanks to Freddo for placing this cache.

Heading home after a long weekend camping in the Grampians meant a few quick grabs on the way home! I don't mind decent graffiti but hate the tags and other bits that ruin the artwork. Answers have been somewhat quizzically emailed through! Adding some pics to prove we were indeed here - we had fun exploring and stretching our legs - thanks for the EC Smile

Spent a week traveling around halls gap caching. Love these type of random places

We decided to cache home and stop at the main towns on the way back from Halls Gap. This was the quick drive by we picked in Stawell. 2 caches for the price of one. Wow, we didn't even know this was here. I must have driven past a dozen times in my life. These questions were a bit challenging and the unsure answers will be sent to the CO shortly. The rocks were amazing. The graffiti, not so much. I've seen wonderful graffiti and this isn't it here. Still, it looks like people have had fun. It would be so much better if murals with meaning were painted here. And the glass eveywhere? Get rid of it and stop doing it. It's terrible. The answers will be sent shortly. The geokids had a teriffic time playing among the rocks and climbing around. We couldn't get them to leave all the caves and crevices. One of the rocks looks like a face with an open mouth. Posted that photo.Tftc.
