Mrs rattll has been staying at the freedom camping spot at Firmin Park, so this was only a short up hill walk to get to.
The last little bit is pretty overgrown but I made my way through and the cache was quickly located.
Such a shame the mountain itself isn't accessible anymore. The mountain race was a family favorite for many years.
Thanks for setting up a cache here.

Yeah, found it! After a long walk with a DNF in the middle of the of the bush we attemped this one, knowing it had not been found for a long time. After thoughroughly checking all rocks we felt the bottle: yes, found it! The cache was still in good shape en the kids even found a wistle inside, thanks to whoever put it there! Great way to end the walk and we were even treated to a nice view up the vulcano and down to the town, tftc!
Area is currently closed to the public due to COVID level 2 restrictions according to the sign
This was a great spot to place a GC. We walked the stairway thinking we were very heroic, only to discover a local family out for their daily exercise which consists of climbing the stairway seven times. That puts it all into perspective doesn't it! TFTC
Find number 7086. After grabbing some FishnChips I headed up the hill to eat them with a view. I got halfway up when the road was closed so I had to walk the rest. Took me feed and ate them up there anyway. Thank you for the placement.
Came up to the carpark by accident, as I had missed the turnoff to the falls
So off I walked over to the cache, thankfully no one in the offices seemed to worried about me being there. So with the cache found, and log signed, picture taken of the view. I was on my way.
Thanks for the hide Matthew Supertramp, and being part of today's adventure

Great spot, thankfully the wasp nest wasnt there! Left Wally my little trinket. Well hidden, beautiful view on a beautiful morning
I'd had an itch to head this way for a while now so I contacted my mid week caching partner Mc Jandals and proposed a nice little clean up of the area. We had quite the adventure today caching from dawn till dusk finding some really neat caches in some beautiful areas. I managed to walk away with 23 caches with the highlights being the Tarawera Falls and our cheeky virtual FTF.
This cache was found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and a straight forward hint. This one wasn't exactly well hidden but then again the area isn't well trafficked. Cheers Matthew Supertramp, TFTC

On a trip with Philip.Perry trying to get this area cleared . II am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing us back here. Cheers
Quick find. But hard to get to due to a wasps nest forming. Moved a little out of the way to make it easier.
Sorry I dunno how to rotate the pic but it was a really nice walk up the stairs. Log almost full and running outa space for trinkets. Great hunt, rewarding view!

Nice view from up here, give a different aspect of the town ..found and signed the lig replaced as found Thanks Mathew supertramp
On such a beautiful warm day we decided to drive up. I was surprised at what was up there - what a spectacular location. I realised we were only 10m from the cache so felt ok stopping and looking. Hint was great. Thanks for bringing us here Matthew Supertramp
Wasn't sure if I could drive on up here but did anyway. Lol. Weather cleaned up now. Easy find. Tftc
Nice simple find... not sure if we should have been up there or not. Is now private property.
Nice easy find. Gates to carpark closed for holidays. Just walked up hill. Nice view
Stood at the top and watched some soul punishing himself by running up the track. Mr S spotted it. Nice view. Signed off just before another shower.
Thanks Supertramp.
Thanks Supertramp.
Wasn't sure how to get here. Ended up driving half way up to the closed barrier and walking the rest. I guess during the week you maybe able to drive the whole way up. Nice views. Cache all fine. TFTC
Found on our way down the mountain the day after the King of the Mountain race. Only Mr Seizer was silly enough to do that, so we both went for a bonus walk up the next day.
A nice excuse for a break on the way back down

TFTC swapped for a smiley face. Going down gotta be easy! Good view for a breather!
Arrived at the carpark just over the bridge and made my way up the stairs what a mission in my jeans on a very hot Kawerau day but finally made it to the top for a quick find.
I'm logging this as part of my GIO LEARNERS LICENSE 1 where one of the requirements is to find 10 caches owned by different owners this is cache number 5.

After what had been a full week and the disappointment of not heading to White Island on Saturday and then it being once again cancelled late last night Alpenmilch80 and I decieded to head over this way and see what we could find before possibly making it back to the event in Rotorua later in the day.
After the disappointment of not going away this could not have been a nicer day to spend caching with a very good friend. This was our first cache of the day here in Kawerau and as previously had had trouble with muggled caches so was unsure how our luck would hold out but were just happy to grab what we could.
A short walk up here past the closed gate, said hello to a lady cleaning the windows and enjoyed the view over the township. soon had the cache in hand retruned to its spot and we were on our way once again. Today we signed most of the caches as "ACDC".
Thanks for the cache and the fun contained therein

Plans were made to head to White Island this weekend with Cats&Dragons but weather forecasted some gale warnings and the operator cancelled on us twice. Being already down in Hamilton we decided for Sunday to make a full day out to collect 50 smiles. And that’s what we indeed did. .
Beside the weather warning it turned out to be a great day with a lot of laughter and awesome company. Signed the logs as "ACDC" \m/. Took the easy route. great view from GZ. TFTC

Going for a walk with our group and found this on our way . There is a new track going up here so u can see a great view now tftc
After finishing work I couldn't help myself finding a few caches around the area. This cache brought me to a nice view of the town. No doubt the house here would enjoy a great view as well. Luckily I got out of there before the access gate was shut on me. TFTC.
Checked for CO and cache still in place.
However there has been extensive logging in the area and all is completely bare here now except for a small pocket of trees at the base of the walk by the river. Hopefully the NZ Robins are still there too.

What a great day with many of very nice geocaches on our way. ....also this one.... TFTC
Have always loved this little section of track and wonder why the council or whoever doesn't look after it a bit better. The flowering cherries were covered in blossom and tuis - just beautiful.

Another mad scramble to see who could get the cache first. Spotted muggles coming up the track so filled in log at the car and repositioned when they had left. Thanks.
We run these steps now and again and thought we may as well kill two birds with one stone. Cheers
We drove to the car park, where we were most surprised to find a substantial building. The cache didn’t take too long to find. TFTC
Have meant to get this cache for a while. Decided to suck it in and drive into ground zone. Arrived and searched briefly for a quick find. TFTC.
Decided we had done enough walking yesterday so took the easy option.Quick find, thankyou.
My last walk in this area was down these steps - but all good exercise - Nice spot and good hide TFTC
Came in the easy way for a quick find. Had a short walk along the bike track after this.

After a successful Mother's Day FTF haul up to the Tarawera Falls it was time to find the balance of the local caches that were still unfound by us, this one was #1 on the list, as the cache description mentions we treated ourselves to a walk up the stepped track, it was my first time up here, it does ask the question as to why they wouldnt use this to start the King of the Mountain race?? (Maybe the race up that hill is hard enough..........)
The bush walk option is well worth a Favourite.

Found this one today while visiting friends in NZ. This is a beautiful place to visit and cache. TFTC
Bummer, missed out finding this one as it did not show up on my gps!
Oh well, we are not that far away to come back for it, just noticed as to why it did not get included in my filter, the location of this cache is New Zealand
not North Island, New Zealand......
It could be worth while to see if you can edit this so that others don't miss out!
Thanks for the caches, we look forward to returning for this one.

A good hide, found quite quickly. We enjoyed the walk up the many steps through a nice bit of bush - haven't done it for quite some time and usually have just come down after river walk. Recommend parking at the Scout hall to do this. Thanks very much for the cache.
"The other night upon the stairs, I met a man who wasn't there ........ "
Congratulations Mac Ross [^]
And thank you Matthew --- good cache for our 350th!
(Have to admit that because it was a week-day and the gate was open , we drove to the upper carpark and did it the easy way!!!)

I was hoping to have time before a dentist appointment to get "Half Way Up" but too tight so picked up this one. I assume this is to lead us to where we get a permit. TFTC
