I was driving from Sydney to Canberra and wanted to take a break and stretch the legs. What better way than by doing an earth cache. I parked, walked to the listed co-ords, found the first lot of info and then walked to the old quarry for the rest. I could hear whip birds, but didn't get to see them. While exploring the old quarry a dog suddenly appeared, sniffed around and left, I didn't get to see its owner. TFTEC.
A great day out on a chilly but sunny morning! Enjoyed being surrounded by nature and learning the history of the area. Thanks for the great cache!
Had a great time hiking around the mountain and looking at rocks, TFTC and for the geology lesson. I found it particularly interesting that rock from this quarry was used in several other buildings I visited while in Australia!
#17.615This morning we started with this EC. As it was quite fresh (only 11 degrees), it was good that we had to climb the stairs to waypoint 2. Thanks for leading us here and for the info.TFTC
Was on a nice walk and tried working it out. Nice but challenging questions. TFTC
I'm headed to Sydney for Christmas, caching on the way. I target certain types of caches, rather than try to find them all. Earthcaches are one of those, and I need at least 400 Earthcache finds for a challenge cache I have logged, but don't qualify for yet. I have found though Earthcaches often take me to interesting places, so not likely to stop finding them at 400 Earthcache finds. Answers sent. Impressive looking rock. I can see why it is good for buildings. Have a happy Christmas and New Year. TFTC NationalSteel.
I started writing this log over a week ago, got distracted and only realised today that it was incomplete.
On the weekend I was out and about kid free and decided it was the perfect opportunity to complete this earth cache. I had tried a few times in the past, but it had started to rain or the kids didn't feel like walking up hills. I went to the way points and discovered the required information. I have to admit, although I have resided in this area my entire life, this was the first time that I had actually ventured up to the quarry. I mean, I knew it was there, just never actually explored it.
TFTC - it was a very enjoyable stroll around the Gib.

First stop for the day, we're starting our way up the Gib. We did pause here maybe 7 years ago, but were short on time on our way home. We did the walk today in the very cool morning air.

Day 2/4 of our Mittagong/Goulburn Trip.
Today we decided to cache around Mittagong, grabbing some good DTs and some other caches along the way. We had a great time doing some awesome caches in this area.
#1 of the day, we quickly got some answers at WP1 before our short walk to GZ. Really cool spot for an EC, deserves an FP!
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache steeba

We had planned on a strenuous day of activities, then changed our minds due to the heat and humidity. So four of us set of in a nice airconditioned car to pick us some caches. The focus for the day was geocaches, virtual caches and a few Adventure Labs. And what a great day it was as we went along Lake George, through Goulburn and then on to the Southern Highlands. many thanks to the geocachers who have put out so many interesting caches.
This was a fascinating geocache and an interesting place to explore. TFTC

A change of plans early morning from hiking to driving. It was too hot today for much more than 'sedentary' exercise. With two Cachers and two Muggles we aimlessly headed northward for a drive that took us all over the place to a few interesting locations.
We really enjoyed this EarthCache with lots and lots of interesting features, and the vast amounts of old equipment lying around. The short walk under the tree canopy was beautiful and cool given the hot day.
The answers have been send to the CO this evening on behalf of myself and SocialClimber. TFTEC steeba.

Out enjoying the Gib and surrounds on a lovely day of caching in the Southern Highlands, starting with Rocks of Gibraltar, climbing up the stone stairway, doing the loop at the top with it's associated AL, and back down again which was a 4.7km enjoyable loop with 173m of vertical elevation gain. Only came across one red belly black snake on our hike, no other hikers or geocachers and only a few other people at the lookouts.
This was one amazing EarthCache! Learnt so much, amazing to go to the old quarry and check out some of the rock that was mined and used in such significant structures throughout Australia. Amazing to consider the bravery / lack of safety for the miners who carved out the Trachyte. Thanks steeba! FP coming your way!

A rainy night led to a misty morning. Parked nearby and collected the information from the first sign before taking the path to the quarry. Gathered the remaining info and completed the loop, realising at the gate that I hadn't taken a photo. Back up the way I had just come before returning to the car in reverse. Made it back before the rain got too heavy but did witness a large branch breaking away from a tree not too far away.
Thanks steeba for preparing this Earthcache and bringing me to an interesting piece of history.

Tftc. I learnd a lot about this rock and the gib. Thsnks for this information
We have travelled from Sydney’s Northern Beaches to the NSW Southern Highlands for a short midweek caching holiday, staying in a park cabin at the Mittagong Caravan Park at Emu Plains, and are planning to explore the areas around Mittagong, Bowral, Mount Gibraltar, and Box Vale. Hoping to collect a variety of cache types, including some Earthcaches and Wherigos and previously solved Puzzle caches, and to also complete some of the Adventure Labs in the area. This was our 16th find of the day (day 3), and 57th find of the holiday.
After completing the Adventure Lab, and then finding the AL Bonus cache, we headed down the mountain to this EarthCache. Parked the geomobile in the carpark off Oxley Drive, then followed the track up to the quarry, stopping along the way to view some of the old machinery located beside the track. Gathered all of the required information from the various signs, wandered around the quarry and examined some samples therein, then took a photo showing some of our team at the quarry.
Thanks steeba for the EarthCache, it was an interesting and enjoyable visit and gets a Favourite point from us.

Cache 7078 on 17 Jan 2021.
Out on a day caching mission to the Southern Highlands with TikvaNZ, Fox in Jox and ZQX. Mainly to pick up the newish wherigo series at Moss Vale, but also a few other interesting caches along the way. We picked a gorgeous day for the mission, blue skies and mild temperatures. A fun day out.
This cache: Fox and I had not done this earth cache so we (and TikvaNZ) wandered up to both waypoints to collect information. I almost missed questions 4 and 5 in the description! Photo attached of self and Fox at WP2 and answers sent to CO. I used to live in Bowral and had never ventured this way to see the old quarry before. Thanks geocaching!

We did the loop and checked out the rocks. The rocks are the rocks I’ve seen in those spots. They did it hard back in the early days.
Found on another epic caching loop with H423L which included the St Arnaud mega and many other magnificent Australian locations.
Thanks steeba and clear skies from TeamAstro. ️ Cache the planet!

The Day
I had a lot of solved puzzles down this way and with the risk of them being archived before i found them i asked Tombi and the_garbageman if they were keen for a day in this area. the_garbageman had to abort plans to come with us due to family commitments so Tombi and I set off in his car. I left the ladder at home which made for a more comfortable drive as we would have had to squeeze it in the car. Luckily, we didn't miss it when we got to some of the higher terrain caches. It was a lot colder down here than home and i was glad i packed my beanie and gloves. Aside from the cold wind in spots it was a great day finding puzzles, earth caches a virtual and a lab cache.
Always try and do some earth caches if they are around and i am in the area. Tombi had already completed this cache so it was a quick gathering of information for myself so i could nut out and send the answers off in the car. An interesting quarry with a very large exposed rock face. The information gathered here helped me with another nearby earth cache.

What a spectacular quarry and fascinating history. Answers sent via message centre. FP awarded for a great Earthcache.
Slowly making my way back south after the Wollongong Mega I decided to keep with the 'Gong theme and made my way to Mittagong. After an overnight stop at a nearby rest area I headed towards my destination via Bowral.
Of course I'm going to stop for an earthcache - they're one of the few cache types I'll go out of my way for. I enjoyed the break from driving and the little walk to GZ. Having seen some of this trachyte used in the buildings in Bowral earlier it was good to see the actual source of this rare rock form. It certainly is a hard rock, so it must have been relatively slow going at this quarry.

There is nothing like a bush walk on a sunny autumn morning in the Southern Highlands. For this Sydneysider, it was a treat to breathe some cool fresh mountain air and enjoy the fall colours. Also, of course to hunt a few geocaches, including this fine Earthcache.

#5897 (15 of 15 today)
Another caching day, another jaunt to the Southern Highlands.
Need to keep my finds up, so back to one of the powertrails for a double digit dalliance. I decided on the *Lackey Extension* trail, and grabbed the first twelve (in order). Well there was a *L.K.A.* cache mixed in there - a nice change of pace.
For my final two finds of the day I decided to go further north to Mount Gibraltar but that didn’t go the way I expected - for more than one reason.
But 15 for the day... target met. And I’m closing in on find 5900!
###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
Trying to get up to *Sukey Leave it alonr* but again was stopped by the construction zone. And then I realised that this Earthcache was here, and I had already walked past the quarry.
So back for a look and gather some answers.
Should have been plain sailing from here but as I backtracked to the published coordinates I came across a medical emergency with an ambulance on the way. So I stayed as the resident who’d found the man moved to the main road to guide the ambulance. 10 minutes later it arrived, and after talking to the resident and fielding a PAF request, finally grabbed the final info I needed.
Well that was unexpected.
Interesting history here, and the extra excitement adds up to a favourite. My answers will be sent shortly.
Definitely time to head home!

Was close to this Earthcache yesterday but didn't have time to make the short walk and answer the questions thoroughly, plus it was dark so I decided to come back and take my time today!
A great decision that was, I got to see the quarry in the sunlight, and it was more impressive than I had imagined! Enjoyed exploring the area and checking out the rock piles that have been left over, as well as finding a bonus traditional on the way back to the car.
Thanks steeba for this Earthcache, my questions have been pm'd to you and I have attached a photo of myself at GZ as well

Found with my eldest son. Our family came down to this area for a short holiday. Mostly I aimed at non traditional geocaches, finding five different types over the two days.
This was our fifth find. With the little son down for a nap, we headed off. We parked nearby, took the fun steps up and a tour around. We had some fun trying to climb the quarry cliffs and sliding down them.

Nice place to find out a bit more about Mt Gibraltar. I have explored some of the geology in the city so it was nice to find where the rock came from. Perhaps not as grand as I thought. Interesting to see that Australia House rock comes from here. Saw it a month ago in place!

I've been on an earth cache binge recently. And the southern highlands is now a great place to get an earth cache fix! Pity I was just passing through today and only had time for this one. I'm really enjoying learning from all of these.
At the quarry this afternoon, TikvaNZ gathered all the information. We had a good look at some of the rocks in the quarry, and it struck me that this type of rock was different to anything I'd seen before. I mean, the description kind of told me that already, but it was nice to see it with my own eyes.
We met some muggles as we walked back to the car. It was getting cool already. This was our last cache before hitting the Hume back to Canberra.
Thanks for another earth cache steeba!

We headed out on a geocaching weekend with Rapidlywild to collect the new puzzle trail in Helensburg and others along the way. The weather was not kind on Saturday on our trek up, in fact it was downright revolting at times, but we persevered through the rain, flooded roads and detours to collect the smileys.
After a full day and night of caching and grabbing a few hours sleep, we woke to a lovely sunny morning, so we collected a few more around Cronulla before starting our return leg to Canberra. On our way home we decided to return to an area which the last time we visitted had been flooded, so we called past and collected the ones that we previously DNF'd.
We took a slight detour to collect this one, can't pass us pan earthcache, permission granted by CO to log this one,

Before leaving home had checked out terrain and approximate distance required to complete this cache and noted a locked gate on google street view however it was opened today allowing access to close parking for the first waypoint and then it was only a short stroll to the next two. Answers collected, and I was back to the car within 20 min so didn’t need much time for this easy earthcache before I was locked in (no notices about open/closing so access probably only rarely restricted to vehicles while foot traffic available at all times). Answers sent to CO.
Two weeks in Australia for holidays with Kirdec.
Day 6, the day before we left the mountains of the Kosciuzko National Park to go to Canberra, and now it's time to go to Sydney.
On the way, many pit stops to see many curiosities, and if possible some caches. One of out stop was for the sympathic city of Goulburn, a lot of thing to see and appreciate.
Thanks to the owners.

Australia Day seemed like a great opportunity to go for a drive to the highlands and check out the new Mittagong Brewery - Eden Brewery. I found a few traditionals and visited 4 earthcaches on my travels.

Not the first time I've been here searching for a cache.
So I wonder why the quarry ceased to function?

Took a short after-lunch stroll today to pick up this earthcache, plus a nearby traditional.
Had a great time checking out the quarry and looking for industrial relics hidden amongst the undergrowth.

Visited this fabulous place early morning after an overnight stop off at Mittagong. The area is amazing and it looks even better with the morning mist settling on the quarry walls. Collected the required info and have sent to CO. TFTC. A fav from us.
This was our first Earthcache, inspired to do for Earthcache day. What a great spot, did this cache with Little Cricket and 007 Mushu. I didn't know this was here. Really enjoyed being here, lots of history.

Found with Lucky Cricket and Little Cricket. Beautiful day out caching, what a great cache (my first earth cache), really enjoyed this cache and the walk was great. TFTC
We were passing through and made a little time to complete this EC. It never ceases to amaze me how much there is around us in the natural and built environments. The EC was interesting, informative and relevant.
I particularly enjoyed the easy walk up to the quarry site on a warm day. It was very pleasant.
The answers were compiled, sent and permission to log was received promptly. Thanks for the EC Steeba.

We saw this Earth Cache and as We have been to a few of the Features that were constructed with the Stone from here, we had an interest in a few of the Places mentioned on the Information Boards.
Thanks for bringing us here steeba.

Thanks, Steeba, for another great earth cache. This is another fascinating site where stone some of us pass every day came from and we aren't aware of it. A very worthwhile side trip when caching in the Southern Highlands. TFTC
Completed 29/08/16 and subsequently logged and confirmed after wandering up and down the mountainside collecting caches all the way, fantastic spot that's hidden away, great place for a first EathCache, thanks Steeba for this one
I was here with suss vulture, on our way to Sydney. This is my team's first earth cache. At first I was not sure what to do but I soon learnt. I enjoyed the views and the seats provided to take them in. My auntie was disappointed about the rubbish in the car park. At first I thought it's because there are no bins. But then my uncle told me that if you can bring in your food into the area, you should be able to take the containers back with you. Makes sense.
Logging with permission.

Having spent the night in Moss Vale, we were headed for Sydney today to show our niece (Lau of Team Jolauso11) another few aspects of Australia.
We left most caches along the way for future travels to this region but could not resist attempting a few very special visits to some Earth Cache sites. Mount Gibraltar attracted our attention, and its beauty certainly did not disappoint. This EC showed us great views and gave us an insight into this amazing rock. It also opened our eyes to look at an impressive building in Sydney, a few days later, with an appreciation of the fine rock and its refined sculpting and carving.
Our answers have been sent for approval. We hope to be back for some hikes and finds in the future. Thank you for the EC - we enjoyed it immensely!

Australia Trip, Day 34 of 49
Alone on Cache Tour.

During my trip to Australia I visited friends of mine who were working in Bowral. During the day I had therefore time for caching. Today I measure myself against the Mount Gibraltah. Here I passed three Tradis and a Earthcache.
This was the highlight of this day! The look at the quarry was really amazing. I was the only person at this moment and i was watched by lizards, which sat on the rocks. After a few minutes i had the right answers. I say goodbye to the Mount Gibraltar!

Awesome rock face (even though we saw 2 snakes.. ahh). Learnt a lot reading the signs. I don't usually like earth caches but really enjoyed this one. Thanks for bring us here. Will email through answers shortly.
Team Omam from the Netherlands has only one aunt left. And as she will have her 100th birthday early February, we decided to join the birthday party. But …., she lives in Sydney Australia! An excellent opportunity for us to explore this continent once again and find Geocaches along the way. We will do a 3.5 weeks trip! At places where we will stay for a few days (Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Darwin), we will organize Meet and Greet events. We will try to find mainly caches with high favorite points, caches from 2000 and 2001, earth caches, webcam caches, virtuals and letter box hybrids.
Out caching with seaker200 today, no luck with the rock caches!!! but hopefully got this one right
A lazy stroll on a cloudy Sunday morning thru Bowral to Gib. A nice & quiet area - only birds singing in trees. Plaques & earthcache offered an interesting introduction to the history & geology of the area.
Stopped to discover this place heading from shoalhaven to blue mountains today.
This is also part of a challenge im trying completing today. ..5 different cache types in 24 hours.
Thanks for bringing me here. ...this place rocks!!!!

I learnt not to stand in a spot for a long period of time as I got bitten by an ant several times on my leg and got a massive allergic reaction to it...... Was not fun. I did like the cache spot though. TFTC
Found on a rather overcast day. Interesting just how sheer the quarry wall is and how slippery the rocks are. Gorgeous location. TFTC and the education lesson!
Loved this cache. Been wanting to see the quarry and walk up The Gib for years and finally my little Geo-Georg and I got to do see the quarry while geo-dad and geo-baby waited in the car. Full of adventure and thinking I had already gone near half-way to the lookout I decided to go all out and hike to the top, thumbs up for another bucket-list tick off. Not being able to reach geo-dad on the mobi I thought he may have received some mental telepathy and met me at the summit. Struck out big time. Not wanting to bush it again we walked down O'Drive back to the start and met up for a nice comfy ride home. TFTF.
Loved this earth cache. Great spot and learnt much about the local area. Hardest par was getting geobuddy to stand still long enough for a photo. Thank you Steeba!
