I stood on the trail having a personal debate bout going to find this cache. I'd just walked 7.5km and the logs made it seem that bush bashing the slope was only half the battle. After a few minutes I decided, stuff it, it'll be worth the trek. At GZ, it was obv. that the challenge would be beyond me, but I gave it my best shot. I looked all over the first car I came across and then went over to the second. After about 10-15 minutes and prodding several spots I decided to call it and make my way back up the hill. I was treated to this small fellow and it was happy eating some of the ants I'd disturbed.

13-Aug-23
After initially thinking this had been nicked or floated away, I was able to locate it in the wrong position on the waypoint.

Just as I was leaving it caught my eye and I am happy to report it is in great condition!

This was a cool one to find. And searching for an easy track in, there wasn't one so we had to think.

Found an old bridge to cross and had to jump the creek to reach the car. Not sure if there was an easier way? Haha.

Forgot to bring a pen and the pencil inside the cache box needs a sharpener for anyone going in there next.

Beware of snakes as there is lots of metal around especially at the car itself.

Ps. After getting back to the main track and reading the hint, the cache isn't at the hint so no point looking at it

Why are there so many cars down here?!?

Hard going but worth it

Terrible day of caching. Can't find anything! Bashed all the way done and couldn't find it. Very disappointed.

after a year inside fantasising of the outside, it is great to finally get outside once again
great to be back again in the hills and on the trails
in amongst all the perils that accompany the hunt

the slope
the burbling creek, threatening to gobble up and drown an ill-placed boot
the grasping vines
the dust-storms
the wind, with which the great zephyros tears branch from trunk and root from terra firma, giving no figs whether the tree is adorned with a dainty dwarf door or not
and
most unwelcome of all, the First Leech of the Summer
i guess that’s one small bonus of lockdown: less parasitic bloodsucker trying to latch onto your flesh

Found a nice little track that took us down to some massive oak trees. From here on, things got a little trickier. We made our way across the creek as the foliage looked easier to get through on the other side. We got to within a few metres and realised that we needed to cross back over. Kelly found a likely place and made the first attempt. She made it look easy although we all made it across successfully. Once on the correct side, there wasn't much room for four of us to move around and as it was warm and we were searching in heavy undergrowth and warm rusted metal, we were all very aware that we may find more than we were looking for. Thankfully, it didn't take too long until we heard "I've got it" for which we were all grateful. We all signed our names and thought about taking the more direct route out as we were on the side of the creek we needed to be on. It didn't take long for us to decide that crossing back and basically following our previous track was going to be by far, the easiest way to exit.
Thanks for the cache and the challenge of getting here although I really can't imagine how you would ever see this from the track.

22-Dec-19
Well, what can I say about this one. We took the time to read some previous logs to see how they made their way to GZ but decided that it was going to be a full on bush bash whatever we decided.
We found a nice track down to two massive oak trees but from there, it got progressively harder. Although we had to cross a small creek a couple of times, we believe that the way we went in was probably close to the easiest judging by other peoples logs. The only serious bush bashing we did was when we were at GZ. How you ever spotted this from the track is beyond me. Maybe there is more than one track. Anyway, the cache was located, signed and returned to where we found it. The trip out wasn't too bad and we had no hitchhikers (leeches), which we checked for quite thoroughly when we got back to the car. Thanks for the cache. Any idea what make the cars are, lol.

Thank goodness we found a small animal track which led us past some amazing Elm trees. From there it got a little trickier. Even had us on the wrong side of the creek. But we found a way over. It was Geoturtle37 who spotted the sneaky hide amongst the wreckage.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, day1976 and geostepdaughter

I went out with Crusty K9 today, to log some caches I had listed in the Emerald Cockatoo area.
We parked at Nobelius Park and walked around the Lake area locating the caches. This was our furthest from the car.
I don't know how others approach this GZ, but I reckon the way we went was Terrain 6+.
It took quite some time to discover the obvious cache (doh!), and then we took a worse way out of the jungle. Sometimes I disappoint myself!
Anyway, thanks Day and geostepdaughter. This had been on our list for quite some time, and we're happy to have it ticked off.

Unbelievably difficult to get to. But so much fun to retrieve! Look around once you find the car!

*16 Feb 2019, Found @ 4:28 pm, Find # 8946.*

The day was coming to an end after completing the Gembrook Cockatoo trail, the event in Emerald and the Harbury series but there was one more cache that I had been wanting to find for sometime now and everytime I drive through this area I think to myself, I must have a look for this one, one day but just not today.
Well today I decided that this was that one day so I headed for GZ.
When I arrived in the area and thought, this is not what I expected, how did you even know that these were here as you certainly can't see then from the trail., but down and in I went following the compass and there they were, not much left of some.
For me the coordinates were very good so I had the cache in hand in no time at all, the log was signed and I then headed out but a different way which was a bit better than the way I came.

**Thanks to day1976 for placing this cache.**

29-Aug-18
Searched for ages and was about to walk away and finally placed my hand in the right spot. Log signed and 1 leech collected

10-Jun-18
Started off at what we now think was the wrong car. After a frustrating half hour of searching we had to call it quits without the find. Extremely overgrown and leeches attacked in numbers! If anyone has any luck with this one, would love to hear how you go!

13-Jan-18
I was out today with Biggles Bear for our monthly caching run, this time in the Dandenongs, concentrating on the Gembrook Cockatoo Trail series of new caches. This wasn't on our planned list of caches to do, but it was close to another that was, so we gave it a look. Rather than coming down the hill to it, we followed the creek from an open area further up. It required some bushbashing to get there, and we discovered another car in the creek. (How to they get them here?).

Once we discounted that one, we made it to the real GZ where a long and almost fruitless search ensued before BB#1 finally found it. Thanks for the cache, day1976 and geostepdaughter.

23-Oct-17
Well well well. Came back today only to realise that last time in a hurry in the rain I was too hasty putting the phone away and was in fact at the wrong car... Still took a couple of minutes to find today but looking in the right location definitely helped. Thanks day1976 and geostepdaughter.

16-Sep-17
With a quick read of the description, both beckNmonts and ourselves were intrigued to give this cache a go, even with a few DNF'S. As luck would have it the CO said if we waited for him he would come along for a walk and perform maintenance if needed....although , he was pretty certain it was still there. With the word leech mentioned, everyone made sure they were covered sufficiently and headed off along the impressive track. As it turned out there are many cars in the creek that have been abandoned but only one of those cars will reveal the cache that was sitting there still, waiting to be found.
Thanks day1976 for the catch up and thanks to you and geostepdaughter for the placement in this hidden valley. A favourite point added for the adventure today.

16-Sep-17
We had the honour of the co accompanying us on this cache hunt, so he could perform maintenance if needed. What an amazing spot. I wonder why so many cars were dumped down here. We found the cache exactly where the hint suggested it should be. A favourite point for the location. TFTC day1976

11-Sep-17
Nope... I'd actually been to this location myself a couple of times pre geocaching. Lovely spot and I was happy to be back here even if it was starting to drizzle.
Despite getting moist I found the obvious GZ and began my fruitless search.
Eventually I gave in a resorted to the clue. Nope... Looks like I'm the 3rd DNF.
Cache definitely doesn't appear to be here Sad

23-Jul-17
Well, that was adventurous! No luck today Our family of five searched for ages until it started to rain. I'm so curious as to where it is!

12-May-17
Had a bit of a problem getting to the car, but managed not to step into the creek. That was the good part. Searched with torch but was not able to find it. There was some evidence of serious disturbance around the car, but that did not help me

29-Mar-17
One at times just has to ask: how the heck did this get here!!!!

06-Nov-16
This was one of three unloved Day1976 caches that we found today, with almost 3 years of loneliness between them.

I had a plan this weekend to have an easy Sunday. Maybe a couple of park-and-grabs or something easy. But with the sun shining, weather a pleasant 20 degrees, we couldn't resist a walk out in the woods. It also provided a distraction for plan B which was to go shopping for new socks, which thankfully I managed to avoid.

On the way to the cache we saw a lyrebird darting through a clearing. Too quick for us to get the camera ready. This clearing revealed itself to be a small sanctuary for play, with very large trees enveloping the ground and a swing hanging from high above. I couldn't resist having a go Smile I felt so small amongst this environment.

After I had enough of the swing it was time to get down to business. A bit of a bush bash along faint paths revealed one car, but GPS was pointing elsewhere. There were all sorts of junky pieces in the area, including a shopping trolley, construction equipment, and household goods. Who lugs this stuff out here??

After a bit more bush bashing and the second car and GZ was found. It really now is a wreck with bits of the car sticking up in odd directions. I scrounged around for a while, periodically sticking my head up and yelling back to the misses I was still ok. I read the hint provided and started to wonder if it was some kind of sick joke by the CO. By eliminating certain components I narrowed down to the likely hiding spot and found a nice clean cache container stuck under there.

Thanks day1976 for the hunt. You always pick interesting locations and this certainly delivered.

After emerging from the bush a quick check for leeches was made. Nope, all clean. That is, until a few minutes later when I found one trying hard to get through my shin bone. Then an hour later I found his mate trying the same trick! After getting out of the shower tonight I had one more closer look to make sure I had got them all, just in case there was a third one who climbed north to a warmer climate. No, thank goodness. I can sleep easy tonight.

20-Aug-16
I haven't the foggiest idea where the cache is but this is pretty hilarious either way. The approach was much more straightforward than expected but the search more difficult. These skeletons seem to possess more than the expected allotment of bones. On the plus side, I made some new leechy friends. Thanks day1976!

28-Jan-16
Dropped by to check on this one today in the pouring rain with geostepdaughter. We were filming our experiences for our upcoming geocaching vlogging on youtube, which added a lot of fun and banter. It has been 4 years since we placed this cache and my how the area has changed.

From memory there were 3 cars down here, which we found, but they are no longer in the condition that they were when we placed the cache. Granted they were old and rusty, but now that numerous trees have fallen over on top of them, they have been crushed.

Eventually we made our way to the third car, the one that we had placed the cache in. It had been sitting next to another, but a few trees had fallen over them both and now they seem to be just a mess of mangled metal. I managed to make my way over to the mangled part of the car that is described in the hint. Not even confident that I was looking at the right car part, I looked under and thought "there is no way this cache has survived", and I could see no evidence of the container anywhere. I turned the flashlight on my phone on and put it in and shone it around, seeing nothing at first, but then illuminating something deeper inside with a distinct rectangularish shadow. (is rectangulaish even a word???).

Anyway, reaching in, I found the cache. Opening up I can confirm that the log book is cactus. The trackable is inside and I have taken that to move it on. I have replaced the cache with a 200ml sistema container with a rare earth magnet to help keep it in position.

It is amazing how the forest is reclaiming this area and these cars so quickly and it was particularly interesting for geostepdaughter who hadn't been down here for 4 years to see the regrowth. We made our way back out, her, as always getting zero leeches and me getting three.

Cache is replaced and all good to go again!

04-Nov-15
Found the spot, but it was so crumbly and overgrown that we couldn't find the cache. It took us about 20 mins of bush bashing to get there, no clear path, so not one for the kids

19-Sep-15
No good...found cars, found wheels, found stringing nettles. Didn't find cache, didn't make it back to station to catch lunchon train, didn't get dessert or coffee....

09-Sep-15
Took the track from wright road. Took a while. Consider all possibilities. More than one front wheel and more than one car. Log is unwritable, left piece of paper with my name on it. Dropped off tb.

After all the rain in the morning i didn't know how i would go getting down to the car. Getting down after all the rain wasn't to bad, so started searching & had no luck. After reading the hint & some of the logs it was found right where the hint said. The cache was half full with water & the log was soaked, so after draining the cache & giving the log a good shake the only place i could sign was on the inside of the back cover of the log.

GPS said we had the right car, but no cache found.

Will try again without the kids one day.

[red]Find #2225 Traditional #1845 [/red] Big Grin

I was up at the crack of dawn to grab a few caches in the Emerald area today. It was a very thick foggy morning today.I left the geo vehicle and grabbed a Plantigrade cache before going for this one. Day light was now helping a little but I still went in with the aid of my trusty LED Lenser torch. I made sure I had my wet weather boots one and after negotiating my way into the area, I soon found the container without to much trouble at all.. Stamped and returned as found Big Grin

[blue]Thanks for this cache hide, day 1976 [^] Log was extremely wet, container was ok Smile TNLN [/blue]

13-Apr-15
There's a second car? Damn it! Wish I'd have read the log more thoroughly before setting off!

04-Apr-15
We found this cache today at 6:20pm as number 7 of 10 on our Saturday Afternoon Saunter to Emerald. Over 30 minutes of searching in various spots before we realised that there was more than one spot that matched the description within a reasonable range of the co-ords. As per previous log, log book is very wet. Thanks from D & A B-A.

04-Mar-15
Sorry to say it's a wet squashy mess and I didn't have anything with me to fix the situation, the container is fine everything else is soaked.

03-Mar-15
I have a new pet! She came home with me stuck to my leg, the good news is she is now nice and fat and I don't need to feed her again for quiet awhile!
Okay so I had planned to spend my 2.5hours of child free time this week at this cache and another close to it. A FTF close to home this morning had me with less time to spend so this cache became the sole target for today.

I had got some parking info off the CO a few weeks back as I knew the day I attempted this one would have me with little time to be fluffing about trying to work out the best access point. If I read the attributes correctly I would have realised the best parking place. Anyway, I confidently set off on my own enjoying the serenity. Bell birds, whip birds, silver eye's, red brows and even a yellow tailed black kept me company. I was pleased it wasn't raining and wasn't too hot, the temperate conditions were ace.
The subject of the cache was located quickly and a little easier than I expected. The cache eluded me for a good 10 minutes, I could see signs of muggle activity and wondered if it was gone. Considering a few more options and still coming up fruitless I decided just to look without the GPS or clue in mind. I found it! A wet and squishy mess but I found it and I was able to sign my name. I didn't have any spare logs with me. Sorry! A great location thanks Day1976 for bringing me here and helping me tick another box in my matrix. Time well spent today and I made it back for kinder pick up with only minutes to spare Smile TFTC SL TNLN TBV

Walked from Cockatoo cache was right where the hint said, although going from the track was a bit difficult as the area is quite over grown. Spent some time looking at the car quite a cool spot.

29-Jan-15
While doing soem more of the Plantigrade weries it bewacme convenient to look for this one. I managed to find a reasonable way there, and another reasonable way back. In the meantime I found the cache right where the hint said.

Great little location on the wattle creek .. What a beauty of car this would have been in its day ... Looks like cache had been found by people that don't understand .., beware of leeches

Found the car but couldn't find the cache Sad

28-Jun-14
Found it! I reconnoitered a walk for the Walkabouters today! I started at the aptly named Paradise Hotel in Clematis and walked to Cockatoo following the the Emerald - Cockatoo Trail and return. I picked up a few caches on the way. This was one of them!

Walking along the trail, I was looking out for a suitable way down and spotted a clearing in the distance. I walked around the corner and found an almost proper trail to GZ. I got a bit wet crossing the creek but found the cache quickly enough. I made a bit of a bridge to get back across, not sure how long it will last. My Dad had a VW. It was full of huntsman, so I did like driving in it very much. TFTC SL Smile

Expected to have a bush-bash to get into this one and it was. After a long search we eventually found it with the help of earlier logs.

08-Mar-14
Think we took the long way, very overgrown. (:)

18-Feb-14
Oh wow, but has it got overgrown down there. Requires quite a bit more effort to reach than when I placed it! Cache is still there though.

26-Jan-14
Found. With the help of earlier logs. Tftc.

19-Oct-13
Found a neat way to the far side of the creek, then when we spotted what we thought was GZ, had to work out a way to cross! Failed to do so without a foot full of mud and water. Oh well! Anyway, then a search ensued. Nothing was found and we were on the verge of giving up when we considered reading the other logs. Aha! Cache was soon in hand. All I can say is, this is a nasty, hungry creek Smile. Cache : 1. Leeches : 1.

Found with Trailrunning, on a short cache run due to work and familly commitments, we worked our way through a few more points on the Plantigrade Multi as we picked up other caches along the way. Thanks day1976 for the cache.

Find #1137. Found @ 15:15.

I was after a few caches to cross off my p81 grid, this was the first of three. It also added to my unloved tally.

I made my way along the track towards GZ and as I got close I found a way off the beaten track which looked promising. I followed it more or less to the titular feature.

I searched for quite a while before I checked my GPSr and found I was still some metres away from my destination. A bit of a relocation and I found the container as indicated by the hint.

I'm glad I brought my hiking stick with me as it was a smidgen slippery on the way back to the car. I somehow managed to lose the rubber end of it, probably stuck in the dirt along my path.

Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.
Thanks for the cache day1976 and geostepdaughter.

04-Jul-13
Was walking past and dropped in to check the cache as it has not been found for a while. Still snug in place and a surprisingly dry log, given the location. The forest is slowly reclaiming this area with a lot more regrowth and fallen trees than when I placed it.

01-Feb-13
Had given up and was logging a dnf as clues where quite specific. Read some other logs to see if any tricks where mentioned. Found some useful information and an instant find was made. Tftc tnln

I found the cache. Well hidden. Found it in 17 minutes from my house. Great hide, loved finding it.

Just as a btw I was one of the men who had flipped the object that the guy was talking about In previous comments.

Wow what a magnificent day to do an epic cache run!!! We saw everything from Shooting Stars to Cars in Creeks. We meandered towards Cardinia Reservoir through the hills to Cockatoo, into the Bunyip State Forest before heading to Pakenham for some night caching and then home. Kay and Tee both had good caching foo today and nary a cache avoided us.

We had a look at this cache to see how to get there and decided on Wrights Road. Great decision!!! Walked to the nearest position the back tracked and took the best route to GZ. Kay managed to get 5 leeches on her journey, as well as the cache find. Blackberrys were out in force, but after all that was our favorite cache of the day. TFTC

Dropped by and checked cache today. There has been substantial muggle activity down here since I was last here with one of the objects being flipped on its lid! Cache remains were I left it, dry and in good condition.

22-Sep-12
Nice spot for a cache! Took the flashlight, thanks.

21-Sep-12
Re-hid new container in a new (hopefully) muggle proof spot. Updated spoiler and co-ords. A flashlight is the reward for the FTF on the new container. A few new trees have come down around GZ and the leeches are hungry down there, so watch out! Cache is good to go.

Wow after trying to get to it via railway line and failing we then tried from top Car Park only to end up on a wild steep private block until we finally found the walking track. Only male geocachers decided to go down the VERY steep embankment until coordinates matched up but after much searching they never found it and decided to pull the pin. But I really enjoyed the walking track that I hadn't been on before.

Find # 1817

Today was another cache run with mu caching partner in crime sedgwickDave. Although it would be more difficult style caches today. We were headed up to Belgrave, then to Emerald and Gembrook. The weather was quite ok, although quite cool.

After our FTF in emerald, we were in high spirits and drove to a nearby car park and walked through the scrub towards GZ. Upon arriving, we understood the meaning of the cache name. Initially we were searching in the wrong object. we then expanded the search and soon after came up with the goods.

Thanks again to day1976 for the cache. TNLN

Was out caching with best mate ahomburg today thru the Emerald, Gembrook and Bunyip forest areas trying some of the harder caches in the region

Walk into GZ from following the train line but don't step on the sleepers, they were quite slippery.
After a short trek down to GZ the search began and after searching one spot for awhile moved to another spot and with thanks to the hint the cache was finally spotted, yay!!.

An intresting site to see and I wonder how long these have been here? TFTC day1976 and thanks for bringing me here.

Took the afternoon off work to go and check my hides and to finish off the final calculations for another hide. Found the Muggle modified cache, is in reasonable condition, except the bag is split, I will bring another down when I am coming past next. Inside is still dry and log book in good condition. Drpped off a TB.

Well as a visitor from gosford to this area, i certainly wasn't expecting to have a 2tf today. although, that spot had been technically taken since three muggles have already signed the log saying that they wanted to join geocaching! I certainly wasnt expecting the cars to be pre 1990 vintage and certainly wasn't expecting for three of them in such a nice spot! cache was smelt out from a mile away, but with adjusments from the muggles its camo was even more effective. TFTC!!!!

Congratulations Matrickz on your first FTF! Lookout over the next couple of weeks, there are two more new caches planned for this area.

Another new cache on my home ground. Left early morning to stop off on my way to work. On approach to GZ my hopes for a FTF weren't too high as I was gazumped by a night caching team the night before and was anticipating the same fate. Found the cache and a shiny new log fresh as a daisy.
