Having driven up here from Cygnet via Cradock and Grey Mountain on a previous occasion only to stop 1.7km short of the cache and return empty handed due to time commitments and unpreparedness. I chose to take the same route again today, knowing what was ahead...
The road from Cradock abattoir to Grey Mountain is rocky but was all done in 2wd. From this point the track gradually becomes harder, rockier, wetter, and more technical. Today it was relatively easy, mostly done in 2nd and 3rd gear, low range 4wd. Good fun, nothing too challenging and just constant steady forward motion... Then I arrived at the same point as last time, 1.7km short of the cache... I took one look, parked the car and got out... Then I took another look, and another... All alone, single vehicle, no winch, little to no worthwhile recovery gear... I could drive into that hole, sure I could, but how far would I get, and could I drive back out??? Well after some pondering, I decided at the very worst I would be track building the abundant supply of rocks for an hour or so to get out... So in I went, as per the rest of the track it continued to degrade and become more technical, but drive to the cache I did, and all the way back out with no drama at all. Lovely views from GZ although the falls are hard to view from up here. Nice enjoyable morning and cache in good condition. Thanks for placing this up here wilco (Vale 5-July-2018).

of into the unknown with another person that had done the trek before and another vehicle just in case ours got stuck, a rough trip because of all the stones that people had bought with them and tried to make a road, getting bounced from side to side was the order of the day a nice massage by your seat, you have to go with the flow, Albys vehicle was having the same problem and they tried to cover it up but from the rear it was just the same. a couple of bends into the trip and we come upon a vehicle in distress, they were waiting for a tow truck, we could not help so of we go, the road was met with some water holes every now and then but reasonable, it wasn't until we turned right to go up the road to Pelverata falls that it got a bit rougher, bigger water holes and deep trenches made it a bit tricky but we got there in the end, a walk around the area was good, 2 vehicles that were there soon left after we got there leaving our party alone with the views, we found this cache and then went for a walk to the top of the falls with only a small amount of water going over the top we had free reign to walk where ever we wanted. TFTC TNBPLN log dry, The trip out was just as good and then we continues on down to Cradoc to get some more caches, a great day.
wilco, TFTC; and thanks to the Tas Community for maintaining the listing; all is in good order here
Lil Rafa, rld4963 and EeePees hatched a plan to visit both the bottom and top of these falls over two consecutive weekends, and last Saturday we visited the bottom.
We thought it wise to make the 4WD trip to this cache a 'more than 1 vehicle' exercise, and so we enlisted AlbyDangles as our geoTourguide. We set off from Margate about 9:15am, in 2 sturdy fit-for-purpose 'tall' 4WDs and wandered off up Van Morey Road, and toward the top came across a Jeep with a broken front left leg 'parked' awkwardly diagonally backwards up the bank!
We stopped to make sure they were all okay, shaken, but organising a tow truck to make the extraction.
After that short delay, we were moving again, and before long we were bumping along the rougher track. There are sections of the track out to the falls that only a 'tall' 4WD is likely to get thru. Lil Rafa and Mrs EeePees may have shut their eyes at times!
Eventually we arrived at the first car park at the top of the falls, and walked down the hill from there to the cache, which soon had our names in it (although AlbyDangles was already in the logbook as FTF).
Not too much water today, but we did explore the top of the falls and spent quite some time there, chatting, reflecting, photographing, and looking down to the platform on which we stood last weekend.
Back at the vehicles we enjoyed a drink and a snack before heading off to continue our adventure.
Thanks to our drivers, we had an excellent day out, and with excellent company.

Thanks for the cache wilco, and the Tas_Community for maintaining the cache.
A few weeks ago, discussions about finding the caches at the top and bottom of Pelverata Falls were made with EeePees, and then RLD4963. Last Saturday, we walked into the bottom of the falls, and today it was a 4WD drive adventure under the guidance of AlbyDangles to the top of the falls.
We were lucky to have AlbyDangles as our geotour guide today. Mr and Mrs EeePees were the front car, with myself and the GeoGSP in RLD4963's 4wd following. Once we got in to the Snug Tiers recreation area, there were a number of tracks around, and his knowledge and experience made sure we were on track. And my it was a very bumpy track - far worse than I was expecting, so it was slow going to GZ.
We arrived close to the top of the falls and quickly located the cache. We added our names to the log noting that AlbyDangles was FTF for this cache over 7 years ago. We then spotted the platform way down below that we had stood on last weekend and watched to see if someone was there today - but noone appeared. Then we walked down to the top of the falls and soaked in the views and took some photos. After a while we returned to the cars, grabbed a bite to eat and then continued on our adventure for the day. This cache gets a favourite as it's been placed in an awesome location, even if it takes a very bumpy ride to get there.

This was a fun drive! We decided to head here today not really knowing what the tracks were like and managed to get to within 20m of the cache. We approached from Margate but ended up coming out at Cradoc. There were many, many puddles, lots of mud, deep ruts to contemplate and a lot of bouncing around! Thankfully we've got a good 4wd with a lift as it was certainly needed in places. Superb views from GZ and we sat and had our lunch whilst admiring the views before heading to 'Grey and Misty'. FP for the location and the fun of getting here. TFTC!

A pleasant little 4wd trip into Pelverata Falls! Have been here a few times but was in a geocaching drought so hadn't thought to look before!! TFTC
Had my eye on this cache for awhile, I was thinking about driving my Subaru Forester to the cache point... glad I didn't. Went with a mate who has a proper 4x4, really fun drive up and an amazing view at the end. TFTC.
Went for a 4WD group trip not the falls today for a look. Didn't know this cache was here, but when we arrived I checked the cache app, and was pleasantly surprised to see a cache only metres from where we parked. Was a Quick find.

Decided that the weather was too good to resist testing the new suspension lift in the 4WD. I suggested to Swampy that we do the Snug Falls track, which we have done previously, he said why not do Pelveratta Falls as you havn't been there. Works for me. After an uneventfull drive for the first section up past the 2.2km mark, where you the turn off to Cradoc or continue on to Pelveratta, Swampy told me to stop as there was quad bikes on the track ahead. Well........ it turns out that it was Redtag and partner and juniour out for a ride. After a chat and catch up, we continued. The right turn mentioned in the description at the 4.6km point is very interesting at the moment, but judicious scouting got us through that one on the high side easily. Deep ruts ahead had us doing a little "descriptive" driving, stradling them with drops of 600 to 800mm waiting a wrong tweak of the wheel. The water crossings were all fine, only one came up to the number plate.
The end car park was reached, there was already a couple of 4WDs there, including the one that brought Wilco in to [place the cache. Tassie is a small world! Duly logged by myself and Twistie Tweetie and replaced. Thanks for a fine ending to a spectacular drive.

Wow. On the spur of the moment, I decided to head out and I wanted to go to a waterfall. I am planning a walk to Pelverata Falls with others, but that will be to the base, so I thought I might go this way instead today. From what I could work out, it seemed like it would be about 12km, which I thought was OK. But I had to park furhter down Van Morey Rd, so it was a couple of kms up to the boom gate. I walked that then set off at a slow jog. There was plenty of water on the track but it was surprisingly OK to negotiate round for the most part but definitely very muddy. After not meeitng many people on the way (a couple of 4WDs at a coulple of the parking spots), when I arrived (over 9kms later) the parking area was FULL of them. Evidently a 4WD club had decided to head out today. Great location, and the cache was in PERFECT condition. Well done on the placement. I headed off just as the last of the 4WDs headed off, but strangely, they were slower than me and that's saying something. So I got on the back of the last one and hitched a lift for that bottom couple of kms which was great because the entire track was a mudbath. They turned off to go to Cradoc and I resumed 2FD (two foot drive?)
It was a bigger exertion than I'd expected, but nothing like a bit of adventure to make the long weekend worth it! Thanks for the terrific cache, Wilco, and the incentive to head there.

It would seem that we have been the only ones, of the 8 others logging this, going via the Pelverata Falls track and up the scree to get the cache. TFTC wilco
As a nice day was in the offing we decided perhaps a bushwalk might be the go. However it was not until breakfast that the thought of Pelverata and Slippery Falls would be a good option. We seemed to recall there was a geocache there and a check on the web revealed two in fact. Being not a long walk we thought that a few more caches could be picked up during the drive back from the walk. All this investigation and downloading data to the GPS ended up taking longer than expected, with the result that it was close to midday by the time we started walking.
After reaching the viewing platform at Pelverata Falls, we then commenced the ascent up the scree to the top of the falls. A lunch stop in the sun on the way up of course took a bit of time, plus the distance up the scree was longer than our memories, which meant there was not really sufficient time to venture as far as Slippery Falls. And of course by the time we got back to the car the idea of stopping for further caches had been wiped from the agenda.

Thanks Swampy for such a fun afternoon. i would never have driven that myself so being a passenger with you was a blast.
The weather was perfect too.
Thanks wilco for the cache.

I've previously ridden up on the Tiers from Margate twice, so I felt justified in driving up to the boom gate this time before hopping onto the MTB.
The track was very dry, so no real issues with mud or puddles, just a bit bone-jarring across the blue metal rubble (one day I'll get a dual suspension bike!).
The view from GZ and surrounds was spectacular, even though the falls were little more than a trickle.
I looked down at the platform hundreds of metres below and considered another cache that I haven't yet got - so near and yet so far!
Thanks, wilco, a lovely spot (if not the greatest ride).

Awesome day for a drive out to the falls! Sunny, not much cloud and a light breeze. I think I missed the hottest part of the day. Saw Jaktas on his way out as I arrived near GZ.
TNLN, thanks for the cache!

Selected a good sunny day, parked near to the boom gate and enjoyed the walk to the cache. Found the cache easily enough then we descended to the top of the falls for lunch. A lovely location. Thanks wilco for providing a reason to revisit this area.
Found this one with Jaktas testing out his new 4x4
forgot to log it but I know redtag found it a couple of weeks later so I hope I got the date right

Found this today, drove most of the way. Stopped a few hundred meters before the last mill site, car gps was saying 1.1km to cache. Figured I could walk quicker than I was going so, pulled over and walked the rest. Was planning on a walk anyway but track was a lot better than expected(dry), first gear high range most of the way. Didn't need to put my front hubs in as I avoided the few bits of mud at the sides of the track, unlike the young couple than were bogged in the first bit of mud at the start of the track, very lucky I appear to tow them out late on a Monday afternoon.
Cache was easily found as the co-ord's were spot on, not much water today but still an awesome view. TFTC wilco.
I will note for anyone driving this with a standard 4x4, some of the last sections of the track near the last mill site are a bit rutted out+decent rocks and you might be dragging diffs. A good few drag marks and battle scared rocks on the track. I didn't bottom out anywhere I went before I parked. Unless your a into hardcore 4x4 stuff don't go straight ahead over the log bridge into the last mill site make sure you turn up the track to the falls before it. I wonder if 31inch tyres would give enough diff clearance in parts might need 33inch+ to avoid diff damage. You would make it with 31ich tyres but risk damage imo. Have fun, pretty much impossible to get bogged atm, just got to watchout for nasty rocks including the new rocks being added to the start of the track to fill the muddy bits.

Hi wilco
Took AlbyDangles advice and decided to do two caches today, while in the area.
I started from Cradoc Hill side and climbed the hill to get "Grey and Misty" by Swampy first.
Having scored a find on that cache, I set off on what was supposed to be about a 3.5km (as the crow flies) walk to this cache. I'd love to know exeaclty how far I did walk - well in excess of the 3.5km I'd anticipated.
Checking the GPS every now and then, making sure I was headed in the right direction, there were times when the distance shown was further than the previous reading. Even though I was walking as best I could, I din't seem to be making ground on the GPS. Down and around, a little rise and down and around; continuously to Ground Zero. The last sections of the track were as AlbyDangle's Photo indicated; except that the three four wheel drives that passed (they were on the way out or else I'd have hitched a ride) me on the way in made the track more slippery to walk on.
Eventually arriving at ground zero after taking a little more time than did Alby; I signed the log at 1503hrs. So taken was I by the views and the falls that I stayed too long enjoying the vista.
Hence the last part of the walk - from near "Grey and Misty" to the car - was done in the dark.
However, the return trip, though long; was enhanced by the screach of the Black Cockie and the sight of three eagles soaring on the up drafts.
Scared a few roo on the way in and out and watched the finches jumping from limb to limb in the trees.
This cache gave me everything and more; so gets a favourite from me.
I tip my hat to AlbyDangles for his walking prowess and for getting the FTFs on this cache and that by Swampy.
A great cahce wilco; now I've been to the top and the bottom of the falls and after today; maybe never again - not two in one day; anyway!
TFTC and cheers

I left Glenorchy at 5:50am and the day looked fine.
Drove the trusty 2wd Nissan Ute up Van Morey Rd past the gate and parked just before the very large puddle near the Gray Mountain Jcn at 6:50. A slight drizzle but no need for a coat.
After a 4.3km walk along the track that I'm glad I didn't bring the Nissan and having to put on a coat I found the cache at 7:50 and my first *FTF* for the day. By now it was a heave drizzle and the falls were just visible through the haze.
Now off to "Grey and Misty" I logged that cache at 9:50.
1hour to get from home to where I left the car then 1hour to the falls then 2hours to "Grey and Misty"
On the way driving back out the puddles seamed a lot bigger in the day light.
Thanks for bringing me to this place that I had heard of but had never been.
