WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 73 - Westonia to Koorda via Mukinbudin and Bencubbin. The roads were quiet and the rain held off till the afternoon. I managed to do some labs in Mukinbudin. Once I was set up in Koorda, I pulled out the eScooter and did a lap of town for the local caches before heading down to the pub on foot for dinner. It rained all nigh but was quite a bit warmer than the last two days. More travel to the west tomorrow..After setting up I jumped on the eScooter and started my town caches for the afternoon. Guns are not my favorite caching hosts, but this was a smaller gun than some and thus fewer spots to look. I was just getting going when spotted it from the far side. I was happy to have it signed and get off to the next cache. Thanks for the cache Zodiakhorizon48384.20 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & OZGM19 Seeker Geocoin A#403**Albida**
Took a bit of a search, but not too long thankfully. Just needed the right angle to spot it, then a tool from the car to undo it. Thanks for the cache!
A caching trip from Canberra, ACT to Cape York, Qld and then around the gulf to East Arnhem Land, NT then over the top of WA and down to Perth.Interesting detours to Thursday Island, Mabuiag Island, Mornington Island, Doomadgee, Hells Gate, Nhulunbuy, Wadeye, Litchfield National Park, Wyndham, the Gibb River Road, Monkey Mia, Meekatharra, Wiluna, Laverton & Warburton.TFTC. An extensive search found the little blighter. Had to use pliers to open it.
Tftc. Always a nano on a cannon. Enjoying a drive through the wheatbelt as we head to Kalbarri. Visiting from vic
Camped at Mollerin Rock for the long weekend, we headed out for a "drive around the block" & stopped to find this cache on our tour... We have been here before & that resulted in a DNF but hooray we were happy to finally return & locate this one after a couple of minutes searching TFTC Zodiakhorizon
Headed up to Kalbarri to do the new parkrun and we had a couple of extra days off work so we took our time on the return journey and picked up a couple of caches on the way.My find rate is about 50/50 on objects like this. I had tried to find this one a few years ago without any luck. Today I managed to spot this one after a few minutes of searching.TFTC Zodiakhorizon
Heading home after a few days in the wheatbelt with BJA3.Cache found in good condition with no issues. Thanks for placing this hide for us and others to enjoy finding!
Caching with Team Barritts on the Koorda GIFF weekend getaway. Thanks to all the CO's for placing & maintaining their hides and bringing us to some fantastic new spots!
I had a geo-blindless here. My driver-not-geocacher (like he likes to call himself) found it quickly. After the breakfast and packing up the camper trailer we were ready to find sneaky nanos and multicaches in Koorda. We also grabbed two caches on our way back home.
Heading up to Koorda for the GIFF event and happy to grab a smiley here . Some logs signed as N2OThis is my 11939find.Thankyou Zodiakhorizon for placing and maintaining this cache
Found this on a road trip to Koorda for the weekend. Found with geobuddy TFTC guys
Lovely park for lunch but Unfortunately after a 10m look for the cache I could not find.
Maybe this wasn’t here last time I looked all those years ago, because this morning I had my eye on it straight up. TFTC Zodiakhorizon

On a road trip around the wheatbelt areas of Western Australia for a few weeks. We are enjoying the many friendly towns along the way, whether staying in the CP’s or camping out. So far, we have found every cache that we have looked for, and hopefully our streak will last as we move around to the next town and beyond. Thank you so much to the CO’s of every cache for placing them for our enjoyment. They certainly bring you to many spots that you might not stop at otherwise.
We looked high and we looked low, but could not find the little nano. We poked every hole to no avail. Walked around the building, poked in leaf litter….nothing. One more circuit, and there it was…..lying in the dirt away from the building. There has been considerable rain around these parts the last few days, so it obviously blew off and rolled away. The log was saturated, so have replaced with new one. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a nano replacement. Have replaced it on the machine….dropped into a little hollow on one of the handles. Should be able to spot it if you look carefully, and should be relatively safe there.

Not too hard to find but a good location.

On my birthday weekend we decided to do geocaching and adventure very unplanned way. We spined the bottle and drove about an hour to the direction it points and do geocaching. Koorda was our seventh stop. Tftc!
Magnet has failed, put the nano up high until it can be replaced - it might fall back on the ground.

Day two off with 3 car out on the road picking up caches here and there.
I'm with Kyzabra, the fitzys, Granett, Cirrus_WA, SVKR and sir fancy
The plan today is loose, no real plan just Caching with mates.

Out with L177 for the day to pick up some hides Ive been lining up for a while now. Then back to toast some marshmallows around the campfire for the kyzabra event.
This one was painstaking - reading the hint we meticulously went over the cannon to no avail. I gave in and PAF who let me know the hint was no longer valid and to look up!! ( no longer magnetic)

Out in the Wheatbelt again for the second consecutive weekend. This weekend the plan was to attack a number of towns in the North Eastern Wheatbelt and attend the FOTT event in Minnivale. It was a terrific weekend. Thank you to all the COs involved in providing entertainment this weekend.
Had to do a PAF. This one is now located on the roof. Cheers Zodiakhorizon!

All hands on deck for this one checking in, on, over and around the object and it’s protection.

Woke up bright and early and had a slow morning around the campsite.
Had a bit of chat about plans for the day and joined up with SirFancy, Kyzabra, AlliedOz, Granett, SVKR_WA & Fitzys.
Started off heading into Dowerin before making our way across to Wyalkatchem.
We turned north towards Koorda so I was able to tick off a new LGA. After stopping in town for lunch we made our way back to camp and waited for everyone else to arrive for a fantastic marshmallow event.
Had a ball out and about today with 26 finds.

After camping overnight in Minnivale ahead of tonight's Marshmallow event [GC9G5TP](https://coord.info/GC9G5TP) we headed out in a convoy of three cars to pick up a few smileys about the place.
The Fitzys came up with the goods here after a somewhat lengthy search.

Find 11 of 19 on day 4 of our road trip, today transitioning from the rocky goldfields of Mount Magnet through the wheatbelt, finishing in Mukinbudin.
Found the cache as the previous log indicated, not on the cannon any more. Unfortunately it's cross-threaded and was impossible to open without tools, so if the next finder could come prepared for a struggle that would be good.

Appears to have lost its magnetism as was just sitting on the limestone wall. We repositioned it to a safer spot but in the immediate attraction.
Took way to long but sometimes that's what happens when looking for a little one. TFTC
We’re not normally good at finding caches hidden in canons, but this one (being a compact model) didn’t give us too many spots to look. Great to see such an old model so well preserved. TFTC
Thanks I found this cache on the ground away from the structure. I have replaced on structure however the magnet isn’t working so have sat it in a hidden location.
We couldn't find this one despite a thorough search of the object

Gave it a good crack. Couldn’t find it. Saw the note about it possibly being missing
Cache has gone. Local said it may have been tampered with so if owner contacts him at the motor museum, he would fix it.
Took 2 goes. Freezing after an overnight stay in Korda. Pen almost giving out or not cooperative due to cold. Had to come back fully equipped. Tftc
We were lucky to spot this so quickly.
On a little road trip gathering some LGAs.

Make an unusually quick find here. The stick left of the ground by the previous finder gave me a good start.

Thanks for taking us here. I had a quick look but was going to run out of time so decided to do the other caches in the town. Came back a second time with the help of a stick I soon had the little fella.

A long and painful search for us - now I remember why we always groan when we see a cannon. Thanks ZH
Found nice and easily while on a day trip from our campsite near Bencubbin. The history in this town is fascinating. Tftc
Day 128 of our 366 day straight challenge. In Koorda with BradyBunch18 for the show... and geocaches of course!

We had a free day and the weather was perfect so decided on a short caching trip to Koorda. Thanks for the cache Zodiakhorizone, I think, a very, very sneaky one here.
Woo Hoo!! Great to have a smiley face here today after DNF in 2012! OMG where does the time go! TFTC!
With a new GC.com challenge recently published that required the jinta team to find caches in another 21 Western Australia counties, we decided it was time for a big road trip day. Mrs jinta and I packed up the car and headed away from home at about 4.30am with our sights set on a 800+ kilometre round trip going through Cunderdin, Tammin, Kellerberrin, Trayning, Kununoppin, Nungarin, Mukinbudin, Bencubbin, Koorda, Cadoux and then home through Goomalling. It was a fantastic day and we spent about 14 and a half hours tripping around grabbing both GC and GCA caches.
A big shout out to all the CO's whose caches we found, the Wheatbelt was once again a fantastic place to visit and the weather was on our side with the temps maxing out at only 38 degrees.
A sneaky hide here but we managed to extract the tiny cache

Well talk about a delay in logging! Time has just flown by since I undertook this awesome LGA weekend with PommieParkin. Due to the delay, you will have to excuse the generic log.
PP2 enquired as to whether I would like to go on an adventure to get some more LGA's under our belts, to which I said of course! Set out on the Saturday to head up into the Wheatbelt for the weekend. We first stopped at Northam to do one or two of the Bristag caches I had heard so much good things about. Unfortunately we only managed one, but it did not disappoint!
From there we headed east through Meckering, Cunderdin and Tammin (knocking off a couple of LGA's). From there, we headed north to Wyalkatchem, stopping at a couple of interesting places for caches. I particularly enjoyed the stop at Yorkrakine Rock, it was such a beautiful spot.
We finally reached Wylie, where we were staying the night. Before the day was over we completed the wonderful series by WebblyWA, which gave us a great tour of the town. Once the caching was over, we met up with WebblyWA at night and had the pleasure to experience a drive-in cinema in Koorda, which was conveniently another LGA
On the Sunday, we finished off the caches we had on our list in Wylie and headed west towards Dowerin, where WebblyWA had another series. It was another great series and the final ended up being my 1000th cache found!
From there, we kept heading west to Goomalling for another LGA. This was where our LGA hunt was meant to stop. But, it was here that the LGA bug got to me and it became a case of "well if we just travel half an hour this way, we can get another LGA". So after little time spent convincing PP2, we headed north to Wongan Hills, stopping in Konnongorring for some great views at Gabby Quoi Quoi. Unfortunately, Wongan Hills cemetery was where we had our first DNF of the weekend, meaning our hopes of another LGA were riding on the one other cache in town. Luckily it was an easy enough find.
We then headed west towards Calingiri for one last LGA, stopping to admire Lake Ninan on the way (can't believe there isn't a cache there!). The cache in Calingiri was found, putting my total of LGA's found on the weekend to 8.
I had such an awesome weekend exploring this part of our great state. Many thanks go to the various CO's of the caches. But, I would particularly like to thank PP2 for suggesting the weekend, WebblyWA for some great series and Kyzabra for coming up with the LGA challenge, without which I probably wouldn't have explored this great area.

Parked up at the drive in nice and early and set off on foot by torch light for a bit of caching while waiting for my favourite Captain. DNFed this one at first and walked up to the next cache. With our smiley earned there we gave this one another crack on the way back. Finally maccasreps spotted what he thought was the cache however had no way of retrieving it. So after a bit of brainstorming and a rolled up $10 note the cache was mine. Certainly a challenge this one but with our names on the log and our movie about to start we succeeded in what we set out to do. TFTC Zodiakhorizon & Blondie hopefully one day I can find the Wylie cannon
Mentioned to muggle the other day that I needed three more LGAs to reach 90 to complete a challenge so he devised a route for us to go so I could get a few more. I added to the route so after 1350km in total and 36hrs return trip back home to Bunbury I got 16 LGAs all up which I'm happy with and 35 cache finds
Yesterdays travel was Bunbury to Pingelly, Quairading, Bruce Rock, Narembeen, Merredin, Carrabin, Moorine Rock and back to Merredin to recouperate
After getting back into town after caching last night at 9.50pm and a not so comfy sleep in one of the local motels it was up and earlyish start for the morning as today is Nungarin, Kununoppin, Mukinbudin, Welbungin, Bencubbin, Koorda, Trayning (an extra I added at the last moment), Wyalkatchem, Dowerin, Goomalling, Northam, Greenmount and back to Bunbury
Can't wait to travel todays towns again but next time spend some time looking around the towns and going to the museums
Well this one looked interesting, a nano that could be anywhere. We had a look around before i went to the car to pull an item apart so I could use a part of it.
Thankfully I did as it came in handy with helping to retrieve the cache

Headed back up to Geraldton for another caching run (third time this year). We started off by picking up as many caches as we could in the wheatbelt on the first day before arriving in Geraldton. The next day we headed up to port Gregory and Kalbarri and the highlight of the day would have to be be the pink lakes in port Gregory. Day 3 saw us caching in Geraldton picking up some we missed last time and clearing up a few of our DNFS here before adding some more DNFS to the list. Day 4 we headed off to mount magnet picking up some caches along the way till we arrived there. I must say the caches in mount magnet were quite tricky to find and it was also a stinking hot day so we didn't get to find all the caches we were hoping to find there. The last day we cached along the coast on the way home. Once again it was stinking hot and we missed doing a lot of the caches we hoped to find plus the flies were driving us crazy but we still got to visit some great places. Most of the caches we looked for we did find and we came across some very sneaky well made cache containers along the way. Thanks to all the CO,s for placing there caches for us and all the other geocachers to find.
Had a bit of a scout around and was interrupted by a local (that turned out had mutual friends with me)....because his other friend had spied me sniffing around the museum and they figured I wanted entry, so I thought I better leave this one until I come back in a month or so. TFTH.
Having a planned wknd away with kyzabra and krabiboy we left perth bright and early at 4.30, this was to be a big first day of finds and klms. Getting towards the end of the day and keen to get somewhere near Bencubbin to camp. This was a good quick grab. Especially for a pesky little critter. Tftc
The second quick nano find and we were rapt to do so.
The previous logs helped here.
This trip out had been a long time in the planning.
Krabiboy and I had hatched a plan and probably changed it about 10 times. dallyho joined us, final plans were set, and off we went

Kyzabra and I have had our eyes on this part of the Wheatbelt for a few months. We were joined by Dallyho and today was the day to head out and make a weekend of it.
We left at 4.30am on Friday and headed off to the northern wheatbelt.
We covered over 600km today, clocking up 29 finds, including 5 archived caches.
This one actually didnt take us too long. Nice quick one.

We haven't done any serious caching for a while so were surprised when we came up with the cache as quick as we did. Had a walk around and Belinda commented on the fact that the public toilets were the cleanest she had seen for a while. Isabelle came racing out of the toilet talking about the movie poster advertising the drive -in. We have decided that one trip out here will be to Koorda just so we can go to the drive-in. Haven't seen one since I lived in Charters Towers.
Thanks for the cache.

TFTC! Found on a day trip to the Wheatbelt to grab a bunch of caches and enjoy the countryside. At a quick look; around 12hrs driving for 900km, 29 finds, couple of DNFs.
Was a great day out, attended wyalcatchems first geocaching event, found a bunch of archived caches that were still in place and mostly in good condition. Saw some wonderful sights (see pics in logs). Thanks to all the COs.
