Logs
Rattll and I are on our South Island road trip; this is Friday, so it must be day 14. We started off in Wanaka, traveled over Haast Pass via Lake Hawea, and have stopped for the night in a peaceful spot by the coast, north of Haast. We parked up on the lakefront at Lake Hawea, and got the bikes out for the Gladstone trail for some three or four kilometers along the shore. Most of the caches were easy finds, one dnf. Sometimes, the coordinates were a little off, but the hint generally pointed in the right direction. All were in good condition. Tftc!
After a bit of breakfast and some caching in Wanaka, we headed here to drag the bikes out and ride the Hawea walk/cycleway.We had a lovely sunny morning, with the weather only turning to custard after we'd left here and were on the Haast pass. Although it was a decent breeze blowing as we cycled. There was only one cache we couldn't find, so a very enjoyable bike ride with many cache stops along the way. Thanks for putting this here
Found with Gazania Rigens after relinquishing our obsession with Base Of Tree. Its the obvious place really, once you spot it!Signed the log blissfully on the nearby bench. All in good order and replaced as found.TFTC
This one took us a while to find as we interpreted the hint slightly differently than intended. Zouave eventually spotted the container while I was sitting on the bench and reading previous logs. TFTC!
I am making a dent in this series today, which will also help me get the lay of the land. Several places matched the hint. I didn't find the cache until I realized what size the container is. TFTC.
We headed further south today towards Wanaka, so roughly 250 km of driving from Fox Glacier. We noticed that there have been several caches on the way and we decided to stop for some of them for short breaks. In Haast which was on the middle of the way we had a short coffee/milkshake break and headed further south, stopped at 2 waterfalls which can be reached from the highway in 2 minutes only, very nice!Last longer break was at the south shore of Lake Hawea, the view was magnificent and we had a small walk around including some caches. Now we are at the campground in Wanaka and I have time to log all caches. Here we had the wrong idea firstly, then it was a fast find and log.TFTC #470
I cannot believe we did not find it straight away! We are beginner, it was a good learning curve
Have tried to find this one in the past and it stumped us, so good to finally get it!
#2300 (Tontako Team) Kia Ora from Spain! We found this cache during our New Zealand / Aotearoa holidays.TFTC
Caching Lake Hawea today. Sunny and chilly. Even though there was evidence of the tree being pruned recently we found the cache. Replaced and in good shape.
Trouve par deux hobbit franais en qutes daventures ! (The cache is still here ! Look with attention )
We were unable to find the cache, sadly. There has been a recent visit from a maintenance team and lots of branches have been trimmed from quite a few of the trees. Perhaps this is the reason we couldn't find the cache - maybe someone discarded it. Thanks anyway.
Looked for a while in all obvious spots & then had to look more serious. Then I finally found it. Lovely spot.
31 December 2023 15:58 TFTC drawp for placing this cache, number 13231 for me. This one took me ages! Eventually found by a process of elimination.
We found it! GeoNephew went crawling. Second time looking for niece and nephew. They couldnt find it last time. Lovely spot
Thanks drawp for the cache. Its #1869 for us. We found your cache on Friday 17 November 2023. Quick fsearch nd You once we worked out which pop(u)lar tree!
TFTC, definitely need to "dig" more than most caches. Coords are good for anyone else struggling
Visiting NZ because of the WinterGamese here in Wanaka/Cardrona.

Tftc. Had to pretend to look at the view and take a photo a few times as muggles were about taking their morning stroll. Good fun!
Had to read previous logs to get a clue. Definitely difficult digging among the leaves but great to find with pdnz!
Log book sopping wet.

Its been many years since I was last at Lake Hawea. I really enjoyed my walk along the foreshore. That track is brilliant.
The leaves are annoying but a great hint (misread it the first couple times) TFTC
Day 6 on our holiday in New Zealand. Today our tour is going from Queenstown to Fox Glacier. We also visited this traditional cache, found it, and signed the logbook.

Quick find at GZ with awesome Lake views. OCW MaxAdventurer and Baxter360. TFTC drawp
We spent so long looking for this one & were on the point of giving up after circling the same tree over & over &looking round a few others. Then moved leaves aside & spotted something. Could it possibly be? Yep! There is was. Phew, not a dnf after all. Thanks for placing
