We stopped a break on our way around the coast and soaked up some history, then went for a pleasant wander. Tricky hide because of the encouraging, but fruitless spot close by. Thanks bumandworker.
More great history about Mr Rutherford and friends. We enjoyed a break from driving here and felt refreshed by the waterfall and walk. Thanks bumandworker
Last cache before heading back to the car to find a pen that works, Photo of log taken as proof of find; TFTC
This cache:All questions answered and a logical final showed up. Decided to give it a go despite the previous DNF. Thanks to the good hint in one of the previous logs, it was a quick find at GZ.Today:I was supposed to ride the Heaphy track this labour weekend. But due to extreme downpours in the forecast (150+ mm) I decided that would not be much fun if even possible. So a new plan was needed for my precious private days off. Marlborough was the place with the best forecast, although Saturday was going to be very bad all over the top of the south. After picking some leftover caches along the SH6 on Friday night and sleeping over in Canvastown, I drove to Havelock on Saturday morning and decided to do a local round of caching, dedpite the heavy rains. Geared up with rain jacket, rain pants and gumboots I walked through town and found most caches there. One multi pointed me a bit uphill, where I saw a sign pointing towards a waterfall. Hmm, shall I? If you ever want to see an impressive waterfall, now is the time! Yes, let's do it! I was certainly not dissapointed in the power of nature! After a few hours, my gear started to leak, so back to the RV to get dry clothes and think about the next steps. Meanwhile, the road I just came in on was closed due to flooding. I felt very lucky, cause otherwise my whole plan would be underwater. The road south to Blenheim was also flooding but still driveable, so I decided to go to Blenheim now, while I still could. In Blenheim I did a city tour with many ad labs and a few caches. This time my rain protection was an umbrella. The river here was flooded too, so no 'walk in the park'. Enough to be found in the city, so all good. All in all a great and adventurous day of caching, much better then expected.
I think one piece of the coords is now unreadable. I took a stab, but wasn't sure I was at the right final.
Worked out the coordinates last night found today thanks to help from previous cacher
First cache in Havelock! Solving for the final was a simple matter for me and Trifolia Argentea, but searching at GZ was quite tricky.GPS skipped around a bit between two distinctly different elevations, but fortunately the hint and description gave a pretty clear indication that we should search on the upward path! Eventually TA found it.TFTC!
We enjoyed visiting the memorial, having been present at a public lecture by Bill Pickering in the very early 2000s not long before he died. The final was quite tricky, concealed in luxuriant foliage, about 1.5-2m further up the track relative to what might have been a more typical hide. Anyway, methodical poking with a stick uncovered the hide. TFTC!
A sneaky wee hide, took 3 passes for gps to settle down and then caching instinct kicked in. Had solved on a previous visit to Havelock in 2021 so nice to come back 6 months later for the find, thanks b&w an interesting multi and lovely bushwalk.
Fun explore of Havelock with many caches, staying 150 yrds from this one, so had to get it!
Time to gain some 'Reach the Peak' elevation. Havelock is the target. Jumped aboard Bumblebee and buzzed out here, parked up at a workmates place and started walking. This was the forth stop, and on the way got three Ad Lab points. Got the info from the various boards, admired the mosaic kerbing and wandered off to the final. A favourite from me for the information, the sight of the final (not urban) and the fact that it is the title of one of my favourite movies (in the town of Dirt). Got rid of all the mushy logs and replaced the log paper with some waterproof stuff. Why so many previous finders haven't been able to do this simple task I don't know.
Satisfying multi and in good order although log looking full. Beautiful area. TFTC B&W
Spending a few days in town as my teenage sons wanted to hang out with friends over the school holidays, so I came along to supervise the learner driver. As they spent nearly all their time out on a boat I had some time to myself.
This was the first cache I went looking for. I wasn't sure about my maths, then as my maps were pretty basic I wasn't sure about access, then when my gps showed I was in the right area I still wasn't sure there was anywhere to find a cache. But I had nothing to lose so I never gave and that's when I saw something that made me smile.
So glad I didn't give up. Thanks for the cache, I've never been in Havelock before and I found the information at the start point interesting.

Got the numbers needed easily enough but an extensive search +16m either way and still no find
Well further to my previous log and the imminent news of what was to come at 6pm BCD did a PAF and so we returned armed with a few extra hints...thanks andy.gail!
This time it was a relatively quick find and cache all good with waterproof paper. I feel that this may be my last log for some time and that our geo adventure may be cut short. Either way very happy to get a smiley here TFTC

Day #5 of our top if the south island road trip after our queen Charlotte track trip was cancelled..
Blenheim to havelock today in the rain so not many p and gs as we went along
Checked in early to our accommodation to get out of the rain..
After lunch we decided to head out for a walk around the village got the numbers for this quickly and headed off to gz unfortunately we were unsuccessful on our first attempt i decided to PAF to se if that would help......so with covid lockdown imminent and our plans for the rest of our trip stuffed we were keen to get this on our way to the pub we gave it one more go , more scratching around had the cache in hand ( which i needed to wash before dinner great to finish with a smilie before our long drive home tomorrow

Did the math and sure I found the right GZ. Found item mentioned in hint but nothing seen under it. Searched around for quite a while in various spots.
Completing the loop walk up from Lawrence street via the waterfall I thought I’d check this out as it was in the vicinity of where I finished the loop.
I found a likely spot that matched the hint but nothing doing.

With fine weather forecast for today we decided to head over the hill to Havelock and collect up a bundle of caches in the area.
Andy headed up the hill to grab a couple up there while I wandered around town and collected up the easier caches.
Made short work of collecting up the info for this one and then headed off to find it. The first place I looked - not too closely - had a wasp nest in it. I quickly left that one and checked out a few other places. Reread some previous logs and one gave a bit more information. Extended my search and spotted something that looked likely. Took a bit to retrieve the container but got there in the end and signed the log. tftc

Been in the South Island visiting the grown up kids who are on Uni holidays. Travelling home now heading to the ferry, surprising number of camper vans around which hopefully is helping domestic tourism post Covid. Found the answers easily and then a short walk to find the cache. Thanks
Greetings from Washington state. Had a wonderful stop here in Havelock during our drive today from Blenheim to Nelson. This is day 16 of our 5 week NZ road trip. Muggle hubby headed to the museum and I headed out caching. This was my first cache of the day. I’m always excited when there is a multi I have time to work on and actually complete! TFTC
Was a bit confused by it all but found it in the end. Good walk and beautiful scenery

You’ve got to hand it to the CO. He sets some really good caches. A lovely hidden path, perfect coordinates, and an easy little multi to get the numbers. Excellent in every way. Great wood carving too nearby.
Arrived in time in Havelock as we do the mail boat run tomorrow. Time to explore and find some geocaches. This puzzle wad easily solved with the interesting historical info. With the new coordinates at hand a little walk to GZ and the cache was in hand pretty quick. TNLNSL tftc.

Mr 3Prettys was relaxing after work, so spacenarwhale and I headed out to find this planned multi. She'd just been to this location earlier in the week, so was able to make me aware of points of interest on our way. We solved the co-ordinates quickly enough, then had to double check our work as it would have taken us 4 km away (I mis-entered a digit, and not even one we'd had to work out!). The cache didn't take us too long to find, though the wet leaves put a damper on spacenarwhale's enthusiasm for a good search.
Thank you for the cache.

There was this big bug on the statue, on which I was climbing , which mommy just CASUALLY decided to mention. Be careful of bugs, peeps. TFTC
I had an opportunity to go to the South Island and take a week off work and do some caching while Mrs Yeetrees had to go to the ANZEG Conference 2018 which was being held in Nelson.
Day 7: Nelson to Blenheim. Today was he day that we decided that we would make our way to Blenheim and stay the night there before making our way to Picton on Saturday to catch the Ferry back home. We decided that we would pick up a few caches along the way if the chance allowed but we wouldn't get to carried away.
After finding GC31N6N - Havelock Treasures (Nelson/Marlborough), we went and worked out where the nearby multicache GC7DKX3 - Marlborough rail: Havelock was and decided that we would leave it till another visit. We decided that we would go and gather all the information we required to give us the final of this cache. It was so hard work once we got all the information that we required we decided to go and grab some lunch first and work out where the final was and then decide on what to do next.
After having some nice food from nearby we decided we had better go for a walk to work off lunch, we knew that the final GZ wasnt too far away and decided to go and see if we could find this cache.
Arriving near GZ, Mrs Yeetrees soon spotted the clever hiding spot, it didnt take long for us to find the cache.
Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then replaced the cache back where we found it. Thanks bumandworker for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (13642). Now it is time to make our way our of this lovely township.

I worked out the final coordinates a while ago but had never made the time to go and find it. As I was in the area today it seemed like a perfect opportunity to have a look. I had no idea this track existed so it was great to explore a new area. I did end up with wet cold feet, but hey I got another smilie so it was worth it. Thanks for setting up this multi and for the smilie
Its Easter Monday and I am home alone again - so lets break out of camp today. Another great day for a walk - its Havelock today. So lets go!
Great I have sooo wanted to come back and read all these info boards. Enjoyed reading all this info to capture the data for this multi. While reading about Earnest a wasp crawled into my pocket and stung and stung me. Bummer. It stung for an hour but thankfully no other reaction. A pleasant walk to GZ, but Nigel Navigator was swinging me around a bit. But finally snagged and tagged it. Cheers

Pit stop in Havelock, what's close, oh this one and I have the coords from gathering the information a while a go. A short walk and a reasonably quick find. TFTC
I enjoyed reading the information boards and not just those relevant to this cache. WE got the figures and took the short walk to the cache location, where I soon found it.
Exploring Havelock. Some interesting history. Sorted out the numbers and then headed to the final location. Pleasant walk. Left TB
Out on a rainy caching day with TWNZ and Annacons including full complement of small team members. First find of the day here as we head upstream, kids did a few swaps. Tftc.
Found on a soggy Havelock / Renwick caching adventure with Annacons and Maikenkids, including 5 kids under 7yo adding to the sense of achievement (and potentially the difficulty rating!) for us. First find of the day here and one that Team Walker are pleased to finally get a smilie for. TFTC.
First of the day for us whilst out with maikenkids and TWNZ on this rainy day! Tftc
I enjoy multi caches like this. They are a nice way to explore without travelling for miles. Thanks for placing this cache.
Found with NZDi. After a pretty full-on weekend, on Sunday evening NZDi said we would have a rest day on Monday... 'yeah right', I thought and mentally prepared a plan for when she changed her mind on Monday morning... which she did. The inspiration for what was to be my backup plan was hatched on Friday evening as we came out of the 'Sounds' after visiting my son and his family who were camping at Momorangi Bay.
As we came around the bend at Cullen Point, I looked across at the township of Havelock and up the ridge behind it where the communications tower beckoned. I still need to do that', I thought, as well as the other caches along the Waterfall Track, hence our plan for the day.
Most of the preparation for this trip was solving this Multi at home as I had pre-emptively taken photos of the memorial and information boards on a previous stop in Havelock last year. While I was working out the final, I searched through all the previous logs and found it strange that no-one had mentioned anything about a possible spelling mistake in the cache name. I would have thought it should have been 'Ronga', not 'Rango'; but maybe there is some unwritten rule about not mentioning the spelling mistake... Oops.
After a late start, we parked the car in town and headed up to the start of the Waterfall Track sometime before 10.00am. After a bit of a hiccup on the first two targeted caches, we finally had success on 'Waterfall Track junction' then got the top two. This was one of the ones we had a hiccup on the way up. As this was a last minute plan, I didn't get the opportunity to build a pocket query and save the caches into my eTrex20. Therefore I was caching by cell phone and today it decided to freak out and give readings anywhere from 20m to 200m from the same location. So we bypassed this and 'Waterfall Woes' on the way up and while I had lunch at the top, I took time to manually input the coordinates of the lower caches into the eTrex.
On the way back down, with a set of accurate coordinates in the GPS (which were the same as the ones in the useless cell phone) we had an easier, but still a little bit tricky find at GZ.
In the end a successful find with the added bonus of newfound knowledge of this town's past.

Our first cache on the south island! After we arrived in picton we did just a short drive to havelock. We stayed at the campground there just for one night. In the early evening we decided to solve this short multicache in the town. We collected the numbers and went to the final. We had to search for 2 minutes befor we found the cache. Thank you very much for this nice multi.

Completed while out for an evening wander. A lucky find in the half light, but cache all good. TFTC
Thanks b&w for this straight forward multi which took us for a delightful short walk to claim the final. This monument deserves a cache. I recall the previous one here.

A day out from blenheim towards havelock, than over to the queen Margaret drive to reach Pictor and back to blenheim
That's the plan
And some caches might be picked up, if weather and time and the eyes permit it

Pretty confident we were in the right place but after quite a bit of searching did not find it. A lot of recent windfall in the area did not help us. We will try again during the summer I think
I will start this series of logs just to say Mrs Dragon is amazing.
And I will qualify this by saying that until 6am this morning I had no idea where we were off to for the weekend. But unbeknownst to me this was so that I could collect the CANZ Final after we had completed the South Island section a couple of months ago while in Christchurch.
So after arriving in Nelson at 10am we headed straight over to Picton to investigate one of her relatives and children who are buried in the Picton Cemetery following there untimely deaths in the sinking of the Penguin. Husband and four of five children from the one family drowned of the 72 deaths. But that is another story that we will follow up in a future visit (and a few more local caches).
As time is limited, and quality caches are important, and I'm working through the DGSc currently I stuck mainly to caches with the desired D/T ratings rather than all and sundry. All and Sundry will have to wait for a future visit.
We decided to head back to Nelson after a few hours along the scenic drive collecting the odd cache here and there. This being the second of them. A neat little spot with an interesting story that made great reading and a neat little stop in this historic town.
Thanks for the placement, thanks for the cache

Returning from nelson to Blenheim from a weekend away and thought we would do a cache in havelock. Running a bit late so will be back for the rest soon no doubt.
Slight miscalculation first time sent us toward the fence but soon discovered the error of our ways and we were at gz. Coords are spot on. Cache needed a new log so we slipped some paper in. Was covered by some wood, not a rock so we put the wood back and it is well hidden. TFTC. Didn't know this existed and we will be back to walk it one day. Love the wood sculptures

On the way from Nelson to somewhere on the East Coast I broke my trip by doing some sightseeing along the way and also find some caches. Most of the time it coincided as caches had often been placed near interesting locations anyway but sometimes I also just stopped for a cache (when I thought it was about time to find another one)...
It is alway nice to combine travelling and geocaching as I have often found really cool spots I would have otherwise missed out on.
I broke my journey in Havelock to get some lunch and for a quick look at the harbour.
It is always nice to do a multi cache in between - and this one was quite informative! I never knew about the connection between Havelock and these scientists! While reading the information boards I gathered all the necessary information to make my way to the final. Close to the geozone my gps wasn't sure where to send me. When it suggested I climb a fence I decided to try the other option. Finally, my gps agreed and I found the box. The log book is falling aprt. Hard to write on it (especially with my ever-failing pen). Used my stamp...

We wandered down to this one after a lovely BBQ at our accommodation and enjoyed reading the information and sorting out the co-ords. once at GZ a bit of poking about and the cache was found. We then wandered on down to admire other people's boats...way out of my league! Thanks for a nice informative cache.
A quick find once the GPSr had settled. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to continue the walk, as I had to head back to the others (still muggles) so we could continue our drive. TFTC
Well another walk to explore! I can see another trip to come back and collect the caches I didn't get a chance to do. Tftc love the tree carvings leading to cache. Just had a fabulous dinner at captains daughter. Yum!
Cache is on its place. We found it in the morning before heading for Pelorus Bridge and Nelson. Thanks.
This cache was not meant to be found by me I thinks [:o]
Wednesday arvo the memorial and info park was me first stop
But I couldn't find the cache notes for this cache in me 'dumb-phone'.
Thursday morning, I visited the info park again with cache notes
Numbers crunched and GZ was showing up in a spot I had visited yesterday afternoon !!
Friday morning and I headed on up the trail to visit GZ again.
A couple of likely spots were checked, but no caches were found
But it was such a nice spot, I didn't mind.
Reading other cacher's logs again,
I think that my calculated coords were wrong !! [:o]
Yet put me a perfectly logical place to hide a cache [?]
I'm confused !!
I'll take the DNF and remember the fun I had

In Havelock for a couple of days and out looking to find some local caches. I always enjoy historical caches and learning local history. Got to GZ, did the figuring then saved the coords for later in the day as was planning to do the Waterfall Walk and cache later. After doing the rounds of the local caches it was back to this one to locate the cache.
A wander up the path and cache was quickly located - TNLNSL. Was a tad moist but still able to be written on. Nice chainsaw sculptures seen along the way too. Gets a FP for the history lesson in a nice area which included the cenotaph and the placement of all the caches you have put around these parts b&w.
Will keep the Waterfall cache for another day.

I thought I had the right co-ordinates worked out for this multi - but my figures were taking me over toward the causeway bridge and up the track to the bird life walkway cache.... After reading the past logs - I had worked out the cache wasn't too far away from here - so instead of doing another calculation I went blind up the track hoping the cache would magically appear for me. And yes - I spied a spot that looked like a cache could hide here? I was right - must be getting good at this game...
Dropped off a TB - hope it doesn't stay here all winter - this place looks like it can get pretty wet.

In the hot sun, gathered the required info & did the maths. Followed my nose to GZ to make a super quick find. TFTMC Love this area.
Find #12 on Mum and Dad's ' Decade Drive '.
We enjoyed this cache. Mum discovered a carving in the making (perhaps an owl?). It'd be nice to bring the kids here and complete the walk another day.
TFTC B&W!

Arrived in Havelock for a night before working in Blenheim and Renwick for the weekend. First cache in the area. I let bf clamber around while I waited in my inappropriate footwear. TFTC!
On todays agenda is a short drive up to Marahau and Kaiteriteri before heading into the direction of Piction to catch the ferry tomorrow. A Dinner and geocache stop in Havelock. TFTC
[green] Was looking like it is going to be a scorcher of a day, so I got out my cycling singlet, covered myself in SPF50 goop, put an extra layer of the white paint on my lily-white shoulders, Filled up two drink bottles, got the bike out and left Woodbourne for Havelock. The day turned out to be not quite hot enough to melt tar, but it was close. I drank over 4 litres today! And now as I write this log, I am eating chips, to replace my salt levels.
I arrived into town from the south, and each time I found a cache the find next closest would send me further out into the estuary. I want to go into town! Restock the water, get and icecream! At last the estuary was finished, and I headed over here, at last heading in the right direction.
Info like this annoys me. Lots of good info on the surrounding boards, but of the Ronga itself? None. Nice stroll for the final.

Would have liked to spend more time reading the info boards, but it was drizzling by now and we had left our rain jackets at home (usually they are the first things we pack, don't know how we forgot them this time).
We sat in the car to number crunch and eat our lunch. By the time we had finished, the drizzle didn't look too bad, so we decided to head for the final. A short walk later, and the cache was an easy find. Good to find another Havelock cache. TFTC.

#9027. We tend to grab a cache or two each time through Havelock. Multi-s are always good to get sorted, and this one didn't present too many problems. With the weather being dodgy, and our lack of rain coats, we decided to leave the waterfall cache for another day. TFTC.
On holiday with tmann421 exploring the top of the South Island. What a lovely part of the country this is. Lots of geocaches found and adventures had in the collection of many a cache.
Another nice quick find upon arrival at GZ.

Another short Multi on our way. We could find all the information without problems. Thanks!
During our way to Piction sometimes we want to stretch our legs. This cache was a perfect - perfect place after driving around 1h. The values were easy to collect and than we walked the short distance. To find the cache wasn't so easy and so we found the cache with luck after the reading the hint. We had an offset of 30m.

We must have got the clues exactly right as we nailed the cache after the short walk up into the bush in no time at all...tftc
Following the strenuous exertions of yesterdays caching extravaganza to Murchison and back involving back roads, normal roads and tons of smilies I was looking forward to a relaxing lie in, then a couple of local park n grabs before a leisurely afternoon sat in the sun. Probably guessed that it was up before 5.30 and plans changed to "where can I go and grab those last 4, or more, to push me past 2800?"
A trip to Havelock looked to be just the trick with over 10 unfound caches including the multi I D N F'd last year and the newly(ish) placed Cullen Point series along the walkway. Sun was out so after a hearty breakfast it was on the road. Also in my sights was Cello and Take me to Takorita but these 2 eluded me as I could not find the initial road to get started. Will ask C O s at some point.
This cache was D N F just over a year ago and I didn't keep the numbers. Back again to get the answers and the result took me to pretty much the same area. No problems at G Z, the stone on top was tell tale and found straight away. An interesting multi and a nice visit to two different places in Havelock. Ever the fan of accurate and interesting multis, this gets an F P.
***Replaced the damp and ripped log in it's bag with a clean sheet from my notebook. Old log book is in bottom of cache container***

An interesting place. Especially I remembered my days in school more than 30 years ago when I heared of Ernest Rutherford for the first time.
A nice short multi, which could easily be done on our holiday trip through NZ.

Working in Havelock and had all the parts to the puzzle solved in the morning and did the quick stroll to GZ at lunchtime. Loverly sunny Kool afternoon to do this cache. TFTC
Had a search around in trees, under rocks but couldn't find it. This is one of those times you wish you had a really accurate gps! Will try again next time we are here.
Find #301 for the BAMMJams - a quick find, after no problems getting the co-ordinates sorted. The cache was not covered by a rock when we found it, but we placed a rock back on it before we left. The mini-BammJams dropped a dice in the cache, but there was nothing for them to take out. TFTC.
We had a wonderful day caching in the Northbank area and what better way to cap it off than just one more cache. The numbers were soon discovered and manipulated and then a pleasant walk to GZ. - - - Well it would have been rather more pleasant without all the bitey insects but - - - . A bit of a search ensued but the cache was eventually spotted. I suspect a little pruning has taken place recently so that the hiding place does not quite fit the description. We placed a rock near the cache so people now need to look for a cache that is near a rock rather than one that is under a rock. TFTC
