Oh you meant that one! 2nd find one my first hike in 4 MONTHS. Cache in good order. TFTC

31-May-24
After climbing the hill and enjoying lunch and a hot drink at the top, I decided to continue on for a couple more caches before heading back down again. A quick find here, once at gz. tftc

23-Dec-23
It's December, and to help me achieve one of my Geocaching goals I need to log 300+ caches this month, which means an average of ten a day. I started off well, but had a glitch in the middle which has left me behind my target. Today I was aiming for 30 finds (I got 28) by walking up here. I had ascended the Te Au Track from Huia Street, and been to the left as far as I could go. Now I was back and heading off to the right. The rain was consistent for most of this section, but still light and the tree cover kept most of it off me. Best of all the cloud stayed high which meant visibility wasn't a problem, just the trail being a little slippery was all I had to be wary of.---Thanks to tmann421 for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge

Found on my 6 weeks long holiday.

22-Nov-21
Forgot to mention, geo-boys & geo- girls, that approx. 30 metres before the cache (as you climb up) is a patch of Ongaonga aka NZ Stinging Nettle. It is off to the left of trail, but not by much. Take care to avoid it.

21-Nov-21
Not sure why the path along the fenceline needs soooo many markers as its hard to change direction. Nice though that all the muggles seem to turn back at the bench seat, so all was quiet here today. TFTC

13-Nov-21
Neat hide- gosh I’m loving this trail! I do remember taking a wrong turn up here once many years ago and ending up over the other side, looking back up at the ridge. Won’t happen today tho I’m a little curious as to how we managed that! Many thanks

05-Jul-21
Decided to spent some time around Otaki and Waikanae picking up some caches. Finished the drive by ones and now time to stretch the legs on this loop walk. A good climb up and great views at the top. Managed 22 in total. Will need to return for the ones along the far ridge top.
Enjoyed the level of hides. Often took a few minutes but the hint was always specific enough to give me hope and continue looking.
This took me a while as the GPS took me past the hint before I was paying attention. Finally backtracked to spotted it. Thanks tmann for the challenge and the smileys.

Back down here visiting family and these have tempted me for too long. I thought I should duck up the hill and grab a few on the way. We'll see how far I get today.
Easy find, wet log was replaced with the last of the replacements that I grabbed at the bottom.
Last one for me up here, I got to return the way I came before my phone dies, which is a bugger cos I wanted to grab the others too while I was up here.
Thanks for the effort in laying these. It's a lovely walk.

Wow, that's as close to a big flashing sign above a cache as we have seen Smile Perfect spot, TFTC.

Quick find today while exploring along the ridge from hemi matenga.

31-Dec-19
Nice to come back to this area for a New Year's Eve bushwalk with the family, the track was very busy with walkers and a few dogs today, nice quick find here, TFTC

27-Aug-19
Thanks for setting these cache trails tmann421 - it's beautiful up on the tops here with evening birdsong and the beating of many Kereru wings... one just flew past within a metre of me!
TNLNSL- log is nice and dry in it's triple layers of plastic.
Now time to head back down to the car... will try the Huia St entrance next time

25-May-19
Sorry for the late log - it wasn't until logging caches today that we realised we hadn't already done this. We had done the 1st part (lower part) of this walk a few months ago and today was the day we decided we were going to do the climb. We were going to stop at the lookout but decided to go a little further. We weren't disappointed as this was quickly spotted. TFTC.

Quick and easy find. Found with TwigNZ. Signed the log as "T & T" Thanks for the cache

17-Feb-18
I had been eyeing a few trails to do on the weekends I have my son and decided to go hard out today to see how many caches we could do in and around the Hemi Matenga Reserve an afternoon. We were lucky enough to be blessed with reasonable weather, when the forecast had been for showers, so that definitely helped us to get a great result.
I apologise in advance for the generic log, but there was no way I would have been able to write up each Cache as I went along, so am logging them now in bulk (sort of)

After all that climbing to reach the ridge, we were really enjoying the slow descent back towards civilisation. The rain was still holding off, although it was definitely getting darker by this stage of the afternoon.

This was a very easy find, courtesy of the clue, so signed the log as "T & T" on behalf of myself and my son (Thatweirdguy04), and we were on our way to the next one.

Thanks for the cache.

23-Apr-17
Here I met the woman/runner who muggled me at the letterbox at the bottom of the track. I waited here for her to pass before searching, but instead she stopped and asked - "what did you say you were doing again?" Geocaching, I said - and there is supposed to be one right here - and luckily it was an easy so I could show her. As I signed the log I explained how the game leads you to all sorts of new places, like this - which of course turned the conversation to how wonderful this track was!

The log book was slightly damp - no problem writing on it but it was starting to disintegrate. TFTC.

TFTC amazing bird song up here today

hint super clear and made for a very quick find, track different up here, weather still holding out I dont think we are going to get any rain today, thanks for the placement.

25-Feb-17
#2957 I sense a view coming soon.

Of course I am coming from the north. I also sense a bit of downhill soon.....

All good at GZ.

05-Feb-17
Although I've been up to the lookout many times (as muggle) I never had the incentive to try doing the loop along the ridge. Geocaching has provided that incentive (again) so this is the first one on unfamiliar track. GPS was still behaving at this point so found quickly. TFTC.

04-Feb-17
Took two looks in the same place before I spotted it... good camouflage!

Having seen the hint, I didn't expect to have any trouble locating this cache. That proved to be the case and I was soon on my way to the next one. There were some very good views to admire on the way here.

Found on tramping club Sunday trip with 9 others to help us. We made it a "round trip" starting at the Huia Street entrance, walking through the leafy streets to Tui Street, through the Kohekohe Walk, over the Te Au Route, continuing north as far as the "Homer Tree" before returning and dropping down to the cars. An easy walk on a good track, the weather was perfect and the views were stupendous. TFTC

20-Aug-16
Found it. Didn't have a pen. 8 year old brothers first find!

01-Jul-16
Wandering Dragons, John the Strong and I decided to take a day out to go grab these caches.. We entered from the Huia Street entrance and glad we did. Very steep going up, but once we finished panting at the top the rest was much easier. All caches easily found and the GeoHounds loved the walk. Pity there were only two real spots for views, but the forest walk in itself was fantastic if not a bit muddy in some spots. Trailed off on the link path at the top, but because the wife had instructed me to be home by 5pm, we didn;t have time to finish all the ones along the third leg. Thanks for the caches, trail and walk. Feeling pretty good after the walk, and a tad bit stiff from the exercise.

01-Jul-16
The Wandering Dragons, Crystal Fairy and myself headed off today for a trek around Hemi Matenga Reserve. The start of the down hill trek. Thanks for the cache.

Cache # 3,245 - Went for a nice long walk with Crystal Fairy and John the Strong and two of our dogs today, on a very long planned trip around Hemi Matenga. TNLNSL. Thanks for the cache and the series!

Found with TregearP during our first walk in the Hemi Matenga Reserve. Beautiful bush, views and bird life. A great loop track but we only managed the caches on one half as we were on limited time. We will be back!

All in good order, TNLNSL, TFTC.

07-May-16
A good day for a walk in the area, beautiful bush and the birdlife was lovely with hardly any other people out walking. TFTC

21-Mar-16
Ninalila and I decided to go for a walk in the bush not far from the place where we stay.
It w as a really nice discovery, great walk and beautiful view when we reached to lookout.
We had the chance to hear the deers roar Smile
The caches were well maintained and easy to find thanks to the really good hints Smile
We finished the walk at night but we found all the one we searched !

We logged with our team name : Lekiprokos

Thank you to the owner for the caches

21-Mar-16
fefe.adrien and I went into the bush to walk until the lookout. The view was very nice ! We could see the mountains of the South Island, then the sunset on Kapiti Island... Moreover we eard the roar of some deers !!
Finally we decided to make all the loop track, it took 4h including the research of boxes.

This serie is fun and pleasant, hints are very precise !! Many thanks because it helped a lot when satellite reception was not so good. Highly recommend this geocache serie ! Wink

We found all the boxes and we signed on logbooks with our team nickname : Lekiprokos Cool

Out caching with Cache.Mike today. Who would have guessed that a walk uo a hill would be involved. Of course it would. Smile The GPS suggested to look at the blindingly obvious place so we naturally checked elsewhere first. But soon came back for the find.
Thanks tmann421 for the cache.

Two years ago I found caches on this track, and also ones up the other end on Ridgeline Track. I've been intending to do the six along the top on Te Au Route Track. Some time ago I had plans to do these today, and it was good to see some new caches published last week. Entered from Tui Crescent, and walked down to Huia Street. I found the steep downhill section easier on my legs this time. I had parked my bike at Huia Street entrance - so biked back to Tui Street entrance.Quick find. Thanks tmann421 for the cache.

#7507. A great day to come to Waikanae to walk the tracks of Hemi Matenga Memorial Park. Climbed up to the lookout and we were already at the edge of Reikorangi. Good views of the valley below. Came across quite a number of other walkers in the humid and muggy morning. Fortunately, GZ was all quiet on arrival. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Visited all the caches in the area today with just-Lookin and replaced the logbooks / logsheets.
Double bagged them or added a small log container and in a few cases added waterproof logs.

Should be good to go for a while!

What a great day! Perfect weather, a great series of caches and in the good company of tmann421 while on a maintenance run today. This is most certainly my favourite bush walk series.

Completed the northern side and heading south along the ridge line to collect the rest. Another nice quick find here.

TFTC tmann and the series.

18-Nov-15
Found when out with the Wednesday Wilderness Walkers when out from the Manawatu Tramping and Skiing Club on what turned out to be a brilliantly fine day with great views from the open area just before the cache site. The log could not be written on as it has turned to mush Sad and I did not have any paper to replace it with. TFTC tmann421.

Quick find. From the track a bit before here you can look down on the tiny settlement of Reikorangi -my dad was the sole-charge teacher there when I was born -a long, long time ago now... The school building is still there as a community centre, the house was burnt down in the late 1950's.

An instant find. Thanks for the cache.

A nice easy cache on a nice part of the track. Thanks.

Found it! YAY Smile TFTC, did the Parata Track then all the way over the ridge and down to Huia Street exit , awesome forest, and thanks so much for all the caches along the way, they were wonderfully inventive and descriptive and spurred us along the way Smile

This is a nice (slightly strenuous) walk but there's a great view from the top on a nice day. Easy find with the hint. TFTC (apologies for the delay in logging visit, I haven't had internet access for a while.)

02-Nov-13
Nice walk, sun was out little wind Smile

07-Sep-13
Good to get out of the bush, even if for a short time. Downhill to look forward to, that is appealing, though it's still a long walk down and the knees and toes will complain. Thanks for all the caches on the track, tmann. It's been a tough day for me, but what a beautiful area of bush to walk through.
TFTC.

#6022. Track was a bit muddy around here (and it was even muddier in the neighbouring paddock). Quick find for this one, and then off to the last of the day. TFTC.

Find 30 of 100 day challenge. It dawned a nice day for a bush walk so we thought it would be nice to head along the ridge and grab some of these tempting caches. Thanks for the great clear hint as the GPS wasn't really settling and there are so many places to hide- bit of a climb to get here though! Thanks.

I don't usually like cut and paste / template logs but will make an exception for the odd power trail here and there. I decided to see how many of the caches up here I could get to this morning. Came up from the Huia St entrance. Actually think that that's so steep its probably easier / safer going up than down - well if you're a bit big and clumsy like me it is! A nice quick find here and a welcome excuse to stop. TFTC, Biggles.

2nd of 7 found on the trek up Parata track, beautiful day for it. Didn't go all the way as didn't realise the look out was further once we started going down hill. Really muddy underfoot and a hard slog up. Got one on the way up and then cached on the way back down. SL TFTC 2 x TB visited
