Our last full day in NZ and we are doing a loop through Darfield and Oxford and searching for caches missed on other visits. Thanks to the COs for your placement.
Travelling around South Island for 2 weeks, from Australia. Caching along where you go. Arrived at GZ and found cache. TFTC
Happy me at the end of the line. Did the line cross the gorge and ,if so, where? Just read the cache info and now I know how it crossed. That bridge does sway in the wind. Scary. TFTC
Me and my dad were on our way back from picking sunflowers and thought to do a little geocaching. TFTC
Very long bike ride today: Springfield to Hanmer Springs. Very hot and a lot of main road. Not the best but had to get there to complete my 3 day bike ride home . Anyway, took a few moments to do some geocaching as a little break. Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining, tftc!
I very much love getting to visit the South Island. Until recently it wasn't something I got to do very often, but in the last year I've managed a series of mini-trips for geocaching, and here we are at the start of 2024 with another one. Just like my first SI trip in 2023, I've come to Christchurch to target a few specific caches to help with my Jasmer Grid, and qualification for a few challenges I'm currently working on.This is Day 2, and it's raining. Not major deluge-type stuff, but just a bit heavier than a fine drizzle. The kind of rain that gets into everything and can generally make for a miserable time caching even if you have wet weather gear. So I had a cruisy morning catching up with yesterday's logging before deciding that I really had to get out if I wanted to get any caches today. So I set forth, via a Couplands Bakery because, well this is the South Island right?Having failed to find GCE92 yesterday, I had decided to target the only other July 2001 cache available to me, so headed over to Glentui Bush to make the find. With the rain still falling, I figured I'd still be able to head back to Chch whilst stopping to find a few park 'n' grabs, and so I pulled over for this one. A quick find here. No issues here with the cache itself, so I was to add my name to the logbook and then replace everything as found before heading back to the car again. Thanks for setting this one up.
Thanks for the cache Sallies - picking up a few caches over this way that I had not found on previous trip. Enjoying a roadie collecting smiles - except about now the weather turned to snow. Not so much fun caching in the snowy weather
After a big walk up and around the Mt Richardson / Blowhard track loop, I managed to find a few more caches on my way home. All good here. Cache wasn't quite where I thought it would be but it was where the hint said it was. TFTC, Biggles.
I definitely made hard work of finding this cache putting a little too much faith on the 'arrow'
Once I'd turned my geo-sense head on the cache was found.

Team G0LD: Geocachers 0B80B8, Lis's crew and DaffyNZ are down from Whangarei for a few days. We've all solved the 4 big geoarts so they are the main target for the trip. Of course there were many other solved puzzles that we collected as well.
This was our Big Day out plan where we'd planned to get as many caches as we could. Unfortunately we just fell short of our target as we lost track of the exact number of finds. Good preparation and a fantastic team to work with made this an enjoyable and successful day. We'd completed the Fresh Breath, the Smurfs and the new Skelly series. The line up of lollies were our next target caches.
This was on the way and was a quick park and grab. I've just read as I was logging them that I should be looking for other info in the caches for the bonus. Not sure when I'll be back so it's probably not an issue. An interesting description - loved the bit about all the dignitaries being assembled at the Oxford East Station instead of the West Station and watched the train go straight past on opening day! Thanks for the hide

Team G0LD ( 0B80B8, Lis's crew & DaffyNZ ) on a caching mission to Christchurch. We had travelled down from Whangarei on Wednesday avo. Solved puzzles were going to be the main focus of our trip. We had spent a lot of 2020 and 2021 solving over 400 puzzles, so we had a lot on our list.
Today looked like being the best weather for our trip, despite a heavy thunderstorm overnight. We had a Big Day Out planned, with a perhaps optimistic target of finding 300 caches in one day. Working together well as a team, with a driver, a navigator and a jumper, we made good progress, but in the end, the bigger distances between caches, that we hadn't anticipated, meant we ended the day a bit short.
A fun day though certainly, and sincere thanks to the GeoArt & Trail CO's, and others, for placing and then maintaining such large numbers of caches so well. A testament to your dedication to Geocaching was the very low number of DNF's during the day. Apologies for the mostly generic logs, but be assured your efforts were truly appreciated.
Lis found this one in the hint location

Northland's Team Gold (0B80B8, Liz Crew, DaffyNZ) are in Christchurch for a few days collecting all our solved puzzles and other cache types as we drive past. This is our "Big Day Out" to collect as many caches as we can in a day. Sorry for the generic logs. Thanks for placing the cache. We are loving every cache we locate that adds to our tally for the day.
Found it at the hint location. TFTC

Found this on day 2 of our weekend in Canterbury. It turned out we found 48 caches on my 48th birthday - just the way it turned out. Thanks for the cache and dry log book.
Found on this beautiful morning quick search around and it wasn't long before we spotted the cache Thank you for the cache
Thankfully the road wasn’t too busy to stop and pick up this cache. Contents and cache all good. Thanks for the placement.
Found the cache with the log on the ground. Didnt hang around to sign the log due to extreme winds. TFTC
An interesting series. We pulled over aa best we could. My knees were way lower than the cache but no problem spotting it. Thanks for the placement Sallies
Heading around and doing a few more of this series. No issues with this, I've driven by this one several times and never got it!
TFTC Sallies, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 1 find(s) of 4 today, making this find #3099

After nabbing the majority of the Smurfs Series, that amount wasn't enough to satisfy us crazy southern cachers. So off to explore new territories while still daylight and before our energy is sapped!

Had some time to myself today so drove out Oxford way to do some cache maintenance.
3hr43min. 180km. 7.74litres of petrol. 4.3 litres per 100km. $15.79. 22 caches checked. 3 caches found. A very useful day! Rodney. This one was fine.

Last cache for the night, having had an incredible sugar rush from the Lolly Scramble series, we need some rest. This will have been our biggest cache day yet, around 170 caches today but sleep calls now. Thankfully a nice quick find, TFTC

Staying for a few days at Whitecliffs and able to pick off a cache or two. Thanks, Sallies, for placing your cache. All good and safe.
Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. We've enjoyed a few days of good weather and seeing the Canterbury countryside. The caches have been in varying states - some good, some not so much. Our time here has been a blast, and we'd like to thank all COs who have made this adventure possible. Thank you and TFTC.
With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...
There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some beforehand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!
1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...
No time to waste today - We each had caching jobs to do, and our day was mostly planned... A quick find... Thanks Sallies and TFTC.

After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with ABCDF4 we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. With flights and accommodation booked were off, all met up in ChCh. and many hard dusty Kms travelled and many caches found, I think the Squirrel has said it all in his brief. Many thanks for the placements and Cos for bringin us to the very pleasant areas we travelled in to your region

On our way to Oxford on business, so decided to make it a leisurely drive and get some caches along the way. Quick find. TFTC.
This was our first stop after leaving Rangiora. Now we are really on holiday. Quick snag here and I sorted the tagging while the Seagnoid talked to the local farmer. cheers.
Friday today, we explored from Rangiora to Lake Lyndon
Its Queens Birthday weekend and The Seagnoid, Zara and I are heading out of town for a long weekend to Arthurs Pass, via Kaikoura. Had a fantastic weekend, seeing lots of new places, limestone formations, amazing views, awesome beech forest walks, but getting nowhere fast. Bloody cold at times with -3deg frosts but thankfully the snow stayed on the top of the highest mountains.. Enjoyed driving back via Lake Brunner, Murchison. An awesome few days exploring.

1st real cache of the trip (the rest were incidentals on the way here). An easy find, and I chatted to the local farmer for a bit. At least he now knows why people stop here. I must admit the evidence of the railway is a little lacking. If it was beside the road it is usually quite obvious (to me anyway, who has followed 5 or 6 rail lines in Marlborough, Manawatu and Tasman). Was it further over in the fields?
Taybeedragon and I are on a five day extended Queen's Birthday weekend. Happy birthday marm! The plan was to cache the Arthur's Pass route, from Rangiora to Lake Buller. You would think four days was enough to do the 211 kilometers, but we didn't even manage the 130 to Arthur's Pass village before we had to pull the pin Monday lunchtime for the drive back to Blenheim. But on the way we saw some amazing views, strange geology, weird amounts of ice in the puddles, ice on the inside of our windscreen - it was that cold. Caves, wonderful beech forests, rather a lot of bridge barriers and even a cache or few. And there was blisters, sliding down icy grassy hills on our bums (what fun!) and rather a lot of walking. Many thanks to all the cache owners that made this such an amazing trip.

Stunning day to be visiting this area. Warm, not a cloud to be seen, snow on the mountains. Thanks for this rail series cache. Nearly done them all now.

A beautiful sunny winter day in Canterbury so off I went to check some of our caches around Oxford/Rangiora. 175km driven, 15litres of petrol used, 21 caches checked/serviced, 1 cache found - in about 4 hours. This one was okay, just put in another log sheet and pencil. Rodney.
A planned geocaching trip with specific targets in mind.
1: The final 2 caches to fill my D/T grid
2: The last 5 caches available (all in the South Island) to meet the NZ Jasmer challenge GC4R9Z6
3: Get as many caches as possible in a day (Solo)
I had no timetable and only a vague route (Christchurch - Dunedin- Invercargill). So after 20 days of sleeping in my tent/car I arrived home having traveled 4500km and visited some interesting places. Met some great people. I had found over 650 caches. That was a lot of park. Jump out out. Find cache sign and return. Then on to the next. All this done by myself. Also attended an event and had 2 FTF
Mission 1 and 2 were achieved and I had a best day of 153 caches. All this done by myself.
Day 16 Glentunnel to Waikari 76 caches found. Thank you for the placement

For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 7 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more.
Got poked by a few twigs getting to this one but luckily no punctures.
Cheers for the cache.

We decided to travel out to Oxford and back, checking out our railway caches. We took our grandson Zach to actually find the containers. This one was fine. Rodney and Iris.
Really enjoying travelling the roads of Canterbury finding caches as I go. It's a bit hard knowing which caches to target and which ones will need to wait for another day. This one got itself onto today's list.
Love the lookout above the hedge opposite. - - - One way to get away from it all I guess.
It was a treat to have a brand new log book here. TFTC .

Drove out to the Waimak Gorge and back today to check out some of our own caches. Took brother-in-law Donald for a ride (Nufc). Checked out fourteen caches, and this was number three. Everything fine. Rodney.
Found this one today in company with the cache owner, my brother-in-law! Thanks. Don.
Grabbing some caches on the way Northish today. A nice area, need to come back when I have more time. TFTC
Easy find, and thanks for this series. I've got one or two a while back and nice to snag another one.
