A quick grab and park drive along for these run of caches along Gravel Pit Rd. (15 Mile Creek, At the Cross Roads, A fright for some, Gravel Pit Rd, No Though Rd, The Climb to the View, Can you see the views yet?). Good to see some different sizes. A nice and quick easy find whilst in Wangaratta on Saturday, whilst Mrs Lost Wanderer was busy elsewhere Mr Lost Wanderer and Juniors did some caching.

Nice easy one here, found quickly and easily however the magnets are very weak and no longer hold the container up high. Unusually I didn't have any replacement magnets in the car today (usually I do). TFTC

Day two of our post Christmas / pre New Year trip... taking our new tent trailer for a test run, weather was very hot and humid. Our travels are taking us up to Ettamogah and across to Old Tallangatta before returning home.

Visiting many towns along the way, taking the Geo wife to places she has never been before, and giving our Geo Pug time to sniff out new territories Smile

Did not expect to be seeing constant temps in the high 30's to low 40's... Geo wife got to see her first live black snake on the road in Australia, and I almost stood on a 5 foot brown snake at one cache on the HCRT, and a red back spider at another.
Stayed at some nice FREE camp sites along the way and a couple of caravan parks as well, learned a lot of things along the way, history and more, but in all a great adventure and we were able to clock up our 1000th find along the way ..

found the remnants of this cache and log on the ground, placed log in eclipse tin.. needs maintenance

thanks to the CO for this cache

This was the fifth of the caches along this stretch of road that we attempted today. Our GPS had GZ well away from any object likely to hide a cache. We were guided by the cache name and found the cache about 12m from where our GPS thought GZ should be located. The cache container is disintergrating, probably a consequence of UV attack on the plastic and the magnet has come adrift from the container. Despite these hassles, the log was in good condition. Thanks for the cache TheButtonBandits.

Please refer to our Found log. Urgent maintenance is required.

17-Nov-13
Found at 4:17 PM GAFF2 at a distance of 14 metres Sad. The cache is not a magnetic nano vile, it is a small white plastic rectangular container without a lid lying on the ground next to the sign post. We replaced it up high on the sign post so that it will fall down again as soon as the wind picks up.
This is as far west as we dared go, as we would probably not be able to turn around further down the no through road.
Thanks TheButtonBandits.

15th of 17 found today with the geohounds, 14.5 kms walked in total on the paths around Wangaratta. Another drive by on the way home. Made more difficult as was on the ground, we returned it to an elevated position that we thought may have been the designated spot.

2 Days - 3 Family Members - 146 caches - 1 Power Trail - 1 Bull Ant Bite

Is there a better way to spend NRL Grand Final weekend when your team is not playing, than two days caching? We didn't think so!!! Saturday was spent caching around Tocumwal after picking Campbell up from his grandparents then heading back to Wangaratta for some night caching. Sunday we ventured up to the Buckland Valley and tackled the High Voltage Power Trail. We were blessed with fantastic weather on both days, which were filled with fun and merriment.

Katy followed her caching nose and found the cache, we can see how these containers can disintegrate when in the sun.

Thanks for the cache TheButtonBandits.

We found ourselves in the middle of the road for this one and not sure where to lookwe decoded the hint and the cache was soon in hand and our name in the log.
The container does not seem to be standing up to the sun and has a broken lid but the log was still dry.

We actually lived in Wangaratta before geo caching was born. It is very interesting to return now and see the area from a totally different perspective. This road has certainly changed since we were here then. Satellites today had our GZ 11m NW of where we located the cache. Chatted to local on a tractor who lives up the road and wondered what we were up to.

We have always done our best to make all our logs original and not do the cut and paste thing. Today, however, we have 91 caches to log and i cant really see myself sitting down and typing out that many original logs.
Our aim when we head off in the morning was for 100 caches, unfortunately we didn't quite make that number. We did get 91 and had a great time doing so.
Our day started out with roughly a 25km bike ride from Old Tallangatta to the Sandy Creek Bridge. This was followed by a few more stops on the rail trail before spending the rest of the afternoon running around Wangaratta.
We had a great day and send our thanks to all the C.O's who provided the great caches we visited.

I came up to Wang with Team Crackers to attend an event in the area. We decided to spend some time grabbing a few caches before travelling up the hills to the event. Read the description to this one and thought that retrieval may be difficult however either I am taller than I thought or the cache wasn't where it is meant to be. Made the grab and returned it to where I found it but might be worth a check as it may not be where it should be.

Found this one on an afternoon out caching. Not sure if its been due to the extreme heat but this cache container was cracked and immediately disintegrated in our hands. We couldn't replace the cache in the container it was in so we went and constructed a container ourselves, though it is a bit larger than the one initially placed here. The container should be able to hold up but I'd advise the CO's to take a look to make sure they're happy with it. Hope this was the right thing to do!

After a great Christmas at home with the kids, the girlfriend and I headed up to her sister's place in Lima. After a few windy and hot days up there I get a call from my fellow The Demolition Crew team member RebelActs who syas he'll be visiting the area with CrazyNatGirl! We decide to plan a day of caching in the Wangaratta area, and hit the easy drive-by's. 9416 kms travelled in 21 days, one awesome eclipse observed near Mt Carbine in Northern Queensland and 712 cache finds, including a small handle of FTF's.

This was a trip I'd been planning for over 12 months with the main reason being to observe the solar eclipse on the morning of the 14th of November. I had decided to drive to Palm Cove and back, where my penthouse accommodation was located, while the rest of the family flew up and back. I love the drive and the unknown adventures that lay ahead; and I even think the last time I did one this big may have been for the previous eclipse in Australia which occurred over SA.

Apart from the great experiences, awesome scenery, and the characters met, the other reason to drive was to also do some serious caching, with the plan to stop at some power trails along the way including the Fruit Run and A.S. series near Stanthorpe on the way up and the Mid North Coast Wander series, just out of Port Macquarie, on the way back.

I had five days to travel each way with ten days in between spent in Palm Cove holidaying with my family. My route up took me from Melbourne to Tocumwal and up to Glenn Innes, through Toowoomba, Rockhampton and the coast road to Cairns while my route back was a bit more erratic. Heading from Cairns to Townsville then via Charters Towers to Rockhampton. From here it was through the amazing mining region to Roma then across to Dalby down through Stanthorpe (again) to Armidale, Port Macquarie, Wagga Wagga, Tocumwal and then home - phew.

Today I was traveling the final leg back to home. While traveling through Wangaratta I had time to do the string of caches along Gravel Pit Rd. I had to search around a little bit for this one but eventually zeroed in on the right spot and found the little hide. Thanks.

# 2047. Out caching with Robmc this morning before his return to Melbourne. We are making our way along Gravel Pit Road now. This was # 5. We weren't sure where GZ was at first although we had in fact been right next to it. We read a few logs and soon had the hide spotted. Luckily Rob is taller than me and with a little lateral thinking he soon had it in hand. The log is full in this one and needs a replacement. Returned it to its posse and off to the next one. TFTC
