After a lovely couple of hours chilling with doggie on the beach, we wandered to this area for some geocaching time. This was stop #3. Nice gentle walk going up to this one. Hint and coords were spot on. Thanks for the cache!

We are on our long-awaited journey around the world in 99 days. Second try after canceling in 2020.
Our third stop after Los Angeles and Hawaii is New Zealand.

This time was of course used to find some geocaches here.
Today we were searching for the Traditional **cooks beach 5 coromandel**

Thank to the Hints and the good coordinates the little box was found quickly!
After signing the logbook there is a new smile on our geocaching map!

At least we would like to take this opportunity to thank tomhussona for creating and maintaining this Traditional.

Greetings from Nuermberg/Germany
**Wild_Bee_**

P.S. To save space in the logbooks, we not only enter in sequence, but also in empty spaces between.

After a few DNFs it was a relief to find this one Smile Read the logs to set me straight, then a little bush bash past the pest trap to GZ where the cache was tucked away in its hiding place. The lid's a little loose but didn't seem to be an issue since the log was dry.

Thank you for placing this one here!

After taking the ferry from Whitianga across the harbour, we made our way towards Cooks beach. We followed a hunters trail towards gz and soon spotted the well camouflaged cache. TFTC

Smile Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up in Whitianga for the next few days … we took the ferry across to the other side of the harbour & then went for a walk … thought it would be rude to not to check out a couple of caches while out & about … this one was an easy find, completed the log & replaced it … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... The logs helped us find it under the weird shaped tree. Need to go off track. Like the camo bottle

28-Mar-22
Found the log and then the cache. Cache all good. TFTC

12-Aug-21
Seeing that I was staying at Cooks Beach for a few days I decided to go for a walk around Shakespeare Cliff.

Not far now to get back to my cachemobile.

Cheers for the cache.

02-Jul-21
This one took a wee bit to find. Didn’t expect to have to go off track.

27-Apr-21
Our team is hammering through most of the caches around here and little bro locates the log or bent tree and I simply locate a smart hide we make a good team. Ps the cords are good so a teeny weeny bit of bush bashing in required so maybe higher T difficulty TFTC

22-Jan-21
On an expedition to Lonely Bay, so popped down here to nab this one while Mrs Jacksonz was putting her boots. Was a bit further off the track than expected, and, after some amount of bush-bashing, was heading back to the track to give up, when I stumbled over an unusually shaped tree. And lo and behold, there was the cache. Thanks for the adventure.

26-Dec-20
Another one snagged and tagg while checking out Cooks beach. Cheers.

Day 9 - Boxing Day - Saturday 26 December - Whitianga - Cooks Beach - Tairua. So lets go exploring.

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

26-Dec-20
Could not find any broken log. Did find the cache at a sitting tree though.

Taybeedragon and I went on a tour of the Coromandel - one of the few places of New Zealand, especially of Te ika a Maui, that I have yet to explore throughly, and from there along the coast to Opotiki to see one of my many, many sisters. From 18 December to 5 January we found over 400 caches, including 12 adventure labs (60 caches), 20 or so TMGTs and a host of virtuals and earthcaches. And I hosted an event to see the sun come up on New Year's day - surprisingly popular given that it was at 5am. We climbed a lot of hills, saw some amazing beaches that were quite popular despite (or because of) the insane access to them, walk a lot of bush, entered and explored 8 gold mines and generally had an awesome time. However I am glad to be back, but now is the hard part, and I fear it will take just as long - logging!

25-Dec-20
Beautiful day

06-Oct-20
Found after following the geotrail and reading other logs. Def more of a bending tree than broken log! Log is damp but managed to sign. TFTC!

26-Jul-20
I stayed in Whitianga, but went over to Cook's Beach today to redeem some DNFs from our Christmas trip in 2017. I parked in a great spot near to GZ and made a quick find. TFTC.

***[======== NZ Mega 2020 ========](http://nzmega.com)***

[NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) is definitely happening, but has been postponed until 2021. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 22 to 25 October 2021. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:

* 20+ years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20+ years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* All the 20s and now 21 as well!

Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](http://nzmega.com) - you won't want to miss it!

Rain setting in so cutting our day short, grabbed this one on the way out of the reserve. Watch out for the subterranean wasp nest very nearby. TFTC

Took a bit of finding but got there in the end. Co ordinates jumped around a bit. Tftc.

07-Feb-20
The geotrail helped but then the hint really put me off. Got there in the end.

03-Feb-20
An obvious geotrail made for a quick find here.

03-Feb-20
Tucked into rather than as the hint suggests. But coordinates and a cacher’s trail showed the way. TFTC

20-Jan-20

05-Oct-19
Found it while in Coromandel with Aiden29 to complete There 'n Back trail between Tapu and Coroglen. We did 400km today.

We left new container by the crooked tree near GZ.
Good luck.

05-Oct-19
Had plans with Tramyard to head back to the Coromandel, this time to complete the There 'n Back trail between Tapu and Coroglen. It was an early morning start, leaving home at just after 5am to get coffee on the way to meet tramyard. A very successful day, with 65 caches found before arriving home exhausted at 11pm.

We were intending to head to Cook's Beach but we had taken a wrong turn at Coroglen and didn't realise until we were about 5km from Whitianga. Decided to continue on anyway and find the 4 new Geotour caches in the area and grab some lunch. Finally made our way to our original destination. Headed to start at the Ferry landing and make our way back towards Cook's Beach.

Searched high and low, but left new pill container by fallen log but wedged in between crooked tree.

30-Sep-19
Couldn’t even find dead log. Didn’t want to ramp all over new growth

03-Apr-19
After reading previous logs decided to move along

18-Feb-19
On a big mission to get a pile of caches so I can land my 7000th cache on either Mnt Ruapehu or Mnt Ngauruhoe on the 16th March! Hoping, weather permitting, that rustynz can join me for her 5000th cache as well on the same day. A bit of planning going into this I can tell ya!

This C.O has long gone - 2012 was their last cache find, so a needs maintenance log is pointless. Cache has been maintained by fellow cachers only. Found this by accident, no broken log!

18-Feb-19
Log later

13-Feb-19
This geocacher reported that the container is damaged.

11-Feb-19
Today we walked the looptrack at Shakespeare Cliffs. After days of searching and finding trash-like caches, these caches were such a relieve; this makes geocaching fun! All caches where found easily, thanks to the owner(s) for hiding and maintaining them…

Container is damaged and logbook wet. Replacement is required.

09-Feb-19
On a whistle stop tour of the Coromandel (today and tomorrow) but always have time to pick up a few caches. We stayed at Cooks Beach last night, so had a wander around here today between rain showers. Loved this reserve and the walks here, but this was a difficult one. Really does need a new container but the paper that KGD put in it is still dry, TFTC Smile

05-Feb-19
Find number 4752. On my way down from an enjoyable walk around the park. Ventured off track only to find nothing. Once back on track I soon had the cache in hand. The top of container is broken and the log very wet. I added another piece of paper which may not last long. I had already used my spare container at an earlier cache in the park. Thank you for the placement.

03-Jan-19
Bag with logbook is full of water

03-Jan-19
It has been our first trip to New Zealand – great people and amazing sceneries. Geocaching has helped to discover New Zealand.

Thank you for the cache.

School holiday trip to Auckland/Coromandel with the family. After a night in Auckland we came across to Hotwater beach Top10 for a couple nights. In the area visiting Cathedral Cove and Cooks Beach. Walked down the track with Mr8. GPS pointed off into the shrubs & there are a few geotrails......none of which led to a cache. Back on teh main track and about to give up when Mr8 was chuffed to spot the cache (small rusting tin) within arms reach of the track beside a small (knee high) tree fern. Log surprisingly dry. Cheers!

16-Sep-18
Read a few logs to help find this one. Can grab it from the path, no need to bush bash. TFTC

14-Jul-18
On a mission to get cache no. 100 and a few extras during our Cooks Beach stay. Went past this one twice. Then geokid master4 spotted it. Very proud of himself. TFTC Smile

24-Jun-18
A great day out with part of Team BOP. After meeting up early, headed off to clear a few areas on our maps. Had the best of winters weather today, had a great time with lots of laughs in between all our wonderful finds. Many thanks to the cache owners for their placements, (please excuse any cut and paste logs as there are many), and thanks for bringing us back to this wonderful part of NZ. Getting very rusty and co ords (like many others) kept wanting us to go into bush, a quick re think and there it was, Cheers.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap), McJandals, NZFlossy, Philip.Perry, and TNXPro... Another mission into Coromandel. The plan for today was to clear out Cooks Beach and Hahei...

This was not the find we were expecting. The iPhone gps pointed several meters into the scrub. We mounted a small search but read that this one should be track side. Exiting, we scanned the undergrowth and found the cache in a random spot. The container is well rusted... TFTC.

23-Jun-18
Today was a group assault on the Cooks and Hot Water Beach areas.
Along with Squirrel Nutcase. McJandal, NZ Flossy, Phillip Perry, TNXPRO and myself.
Left home just after 7am and our first stop was Waihi to collect 2 caches.
Opted to travel to Cooks Beach and work backwards home.
Never cached in this area but some of the group have.
Mixed bag of near drive bys, good walks and amazing scenery.
We also we had a couple of each caches to visit, in particular Cathedral Cove.
Lots of muggles today but guess there would be a lot more in the summer time.
Great day of caching
Good fish & chips at Cooks Beach for lunch and good Pizza at Waihi for dinner.
Thanks to the cache owners for caches we found today. SLTFTC

31-May-18
Took a bit to find as gps was taking me into the bush. Can be reached from the path! TFTC

28-May-18
I wonder how the logbook was still dry anyway met a local while logging it, he was from the DOC and told about some more cache on the Peninsula. So many nice people here in New Zealand.

i'm now back in england after a trip to new zealand for a friend's wedding ... & am logging all my finds
yesterday i drove my friend to whitianga (she has a broken ankle) for a family gathering & today i had the whole day to myself so opted to go walking, caching & swimming [^]
i caught the ferry from whitianga to ferry landing & then walked a circuitous route to lonely bay (which i hoped would live up to it's name), before heading a more direct route back again
& yes lonely bay did live up to its name (i almost had it to myself) & i had a great swim
& now i am making my way back
& as my route took me directly past this cache, i just had to stop & take a look
i made this one rather more difficult than it should have been, but got there in the end

Reading previous logs helped a lot. It's much easier than the GPS suggested. Box is pretty rusty. Thanks from Germany!

31-Jan-18
Before returning to Tahei we tried our luck with this cache. After some search we found the box. It is hidden easier than expected. Thank you for this cache.

25-Jan-18
Took awhile to find TFTC

22-Jan-18
Mr TW and I caught the ferry over from Whitianga and walked from the ferry drop off to the end of Cooks Beach and back again picking up all the caches along the way. The co-ords for this were pointing more in the foliage whereas in fact it is not necessary to leave the path. Nearly gave up and one last look revealed the cache.

20-Jan-18
This morning, we had a great walk starting in Whitianga heading to Cooks Beach with nice trails and amazing views over the sea and the landscape.

The container laying perfectly on the route coming from Shakespeare's Cliff and the Lonely Beach was found after a few minutes search on the wrong side of the paths; tftc Smile

Tricky to spot. Looks like it has been there for 100 years

19-Sep-17
Great camouflage! TFTC

17-Sep-17
Team BOP have joined forces again this time to tackle the Coromandel. We were on the final leg of our journey and starting to get a little tired by this point. Shakespeare Cliff Reserve was an awesome spot we would not have ventured to if it weren't for geocaching. The views were amazing but the hills and steps were not.... The cache was found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and a straight forward hint. Cheers tomhussona, TFTC Smile

17-Sep-17
Found with team BOP what a long but awesome weekend we had with lots of walking up and down hills but the views were worth it such a spectacular place we live in.

17-Sep-17
Team BOP were wrapping up the weekend trip around the Coromandel and had just a few more caches to get before we headed out of Cooks Beach. This was our last in this lovely reserve.
Thanks for bringing me here.

17-Sep-17
On a road trip with Team BOP and travelling back down from Coromandel - slight detour and visiting Cooks Beach. Walking around this reserve and enjoying the views. Walked down to this cache and quickly made the find - wasn't sure when I first picked it up but yes it was the cache and everything inside all good. TFTC SmileSmileSmileSmile

07-Mar-17
Today our journey bring us first to the HotBeach, than to Hahei, the Cathedral Cave and to the CookBeach. In the area we found some caches. Thanks for showing the place and hidding the cache.
